As the #1 sitcom debut in the history of all cable TV, season 4 of The Game left viewers on the edge of their seats, and the seduction continues as infidelity, ambition, secrets and betrayal collide to make Season 5 the most compelling yet.

There’s still bad blood between Mel and Tasha, which spills out during planning for the Saber Sunbeam fashion show where Tasha recruits guest star NeNe Leakes, and Mel is not impressed.

Meanwhile, Jason and Chardonnay (Brandy) start to hit it off and she wants him to meet all of her friends. Jason is a bit hesitant at first, but he later warms up and converses with them about various racial issues.

The Season 5 premiere of BET’s most popular and most watched scripted TV series “The Game” was watched by over 5 million people Tuesday night (Jan 10), according to the Los Angeles Times.

If you recall, last year when the show’s 4th season premiered on BET after hiatus, it was watched by 7.7 million viewers, making it the top-rated ad-supported sitcom in broadcast cable history. Meanwhile, last year’s season finale reached 4.4 million viewers.

After returning for its second season on BET, though the show’s 5th season premiere performed impressively with over 5.3 million viewers, the L.A. Times notes that it failed to match last year’s record.

Still … over 5 million is pretty decent though, right?

Season 5′s two-part premiere episode, titled “Skeletons…The Truth Pact,” opens with Melanie grappling with Derwin’s accusation that she had an abortion.

Meanwhile, Malik and Tasha deal with a drunken Jenna. Later, Tasha corners Malik about his relationship with Jenna; and a wild night comes back to haunt Jason.

It was a big night in Hollywood Thursday night (Jan 5) as BET celebrated the return of two of their original series “The Game” and “Let’s Stay Together” at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

Some of the stars who walked the red carpet of the premiere party were “The Game” actors Pooch Hall, Tia Mowry, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez and Coby Bell, as well as R&B singer/actress Brandy, singer/socialite Teyana Taylor, “Let’s Stay Together” actors RonReaco Lee and Joyful Drake, and more.

Kyla Pratt even showed up with her boyfriend/baby daddy Danny Kilpatrick, as well as Larenz Tate, Vanessa Williams, Elise Neal, The Game’s creator Mara Brock Akil and a few others.

BET‘s top-rated scripted series “The Game” is set to return for a brand new season beginning Tuesday, January 10th 2012 at 10pm.

Picking up where it left off, Melanie (Tia Mowry Hardrict) contends with Derwin’s (Pooch Hall) abortion accusation; Malik (Hosea Chanchez) and Tasha (Wendy Raquel Robinson) struggle to wrangle an intoxicated Jenna (Tika Sumpter); and Kelly (Brittany Daniel) is still off in the world trying to find herself, leaving Jason (Coby Bell) forced to come to terms with his feelings towards Black women.

The new season also ushers in a new love interest for Jason, who is sure to shake things up!

BET also revealed that R&B singer Brandy will join the cast of “The Game” as a recurring character (Maybe she’s Jason new love interest?).

According to recent reports, viewers can also expect guest appearances from Selita Ebanks, NeNe Leakes, Estelle, Shawn Marion,  Rockmond Dunbar, DeRay Davis and the Emmy Award winning Loretta Devine, among others.

“The Game,” created by Mara Brock Akil (who also created the hit UPN series “Girlfriends”), was canceled by the CW due to low viewership after three seasons back in May 2009 when it was averaging only 2 million viewers.

BET picked the show up in 2010, and its subsequent Season 4 premiere in January 2011 drew 7.7 million viewers, making it the best showing ever for the series on cable broadcast, and BET’s most watched telecast.

With renewed interest in the show and a star-studded list of guest appearances, it will most definitely be interesting to see how many people watch the show when it premieres in January 2012.

According to our friends at The YBF, the brand new season of the show is slated to premiere in January 2012.

Hosea Chanchez (Malik) spoke with YBF at a New York Fashion Week show over the weekend, and he confirmed the news that the show’s next season kicks off at the top of the year.

“The new season starts in January … we go back to work next week,” he said.

After BET rescued “The Game” from cancellation on its former network The CW, the series has brought in record ratings.

When the series made its debut on BET earlier this year, it pulled in an astounding 7.7 million viewers, more than 3 times the 2 million viewers it pulled while on The CW network. While on BET, “The Game” was watched by an average of over 4 million viewers every Tuesday night.

It’s definitely interesting to see how the show will do in its 5th season.

All of you ‘The Game’ fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the show has been renewed for a fifth season. According to Deadline, BET will make the official announcement Wednesday that they have ordered 22 episodes for the show’s upcoming season.

After BET rescued the show from cancellation its former network The CW, the series has brought in record ratings. When ‘The Game’ debuted on BET earlier this year, it pulled in an astounding 7.7 million viewers, which topped the 2 million viewers it pulled while on The CW network and the 4.4 million that said goodbye when the 4th season ended.

BET is also expected to renew their newest original series ‘Let’s Stay Together’ and announce a series pickup for ‘Reed Between the Lines’ which stars former ‘Girlfriends’ actress Tracee Ellis Ross as a busy psychiatrist, and also stars former ‘Cosby Show’ actor Malcolm Jamal-Warner.

Congratulations are definitely in order for BET and the latest addition to their line-up of sitcoms, “The Game!”

According to stats released this week, when the show made its big return to television Tuesday night (1.11.11) via BET (after being dropped from the CW 2 two years ago), “The Game” brought in nearly 8 million viewers, making history as the biggest audience EVER on the network!

In three seasons on the low-rated CW broadcast network, the sitcom The Game never averaged more than 2.3 million viewers, and in its final season, it averaged a measly 1.68 million, but in its debut on the BET cable network on Tuesday, the show attracted 7.7 million, putting it ahead of much of its broadcast competition. It was the biggest audience ever to tune in to a program on the Viacom-owned network.

“It’s so great to hear from a community that feels they’re being overlooked by the major networks,” BET chief Debra Lee told Advertising Age magazine. Separately, she said in a statement “It is clear these two shows are real game changers for the Network and the proven success of last night tells us that our viewers are not only passionate about the types of programming that we offer, but continue to crave on-air programming that reflects and respects our voices.” (Source)

Brandy, Ray J and BET CEO Debra Lee attended the after-party for the premieres of two new BET shows, “The Game” and “Let’s Stay Together,” at the Directors Guild of America Thursday night (Jan 6) in Los Angeles.

Other folks spotted at the event were BET personality Terrence J, actress Loretta Devine, the cast of The Game (including Tia Mowry, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez & Brittany Daniel), The Game’s creator Mara Brock Akil and more.

Inside the January 17th 2010 issue, JET sits down with the cast members of the BET sitcom and gets the scoop on what fans can expect from the show’s highly anticipated return to television next week.

“Malik is going to go to a really dark place this season. That’s the best way I can describe it,” says Chanchez, who plays Malik Wright. “The way the writers wrote this character this season, it is definitely, by far, my favorite work.”

This issue of JET Mag hits stands Monday (Jan 10), one day before The Game’s big premiere on BET.

Your thoughts on the cover and The Game’s big return to TV?

Like everyone and their mama has suspected for the past couple of months, the original CW show “The Game” will return, but on a new network. It has been speculated that BET will produce new episodes of the show after it was canceled on its original network, but now, BET has finally confirmed the rumors.

After months and months of gossip and rumors about “The Game” coming to BET, the network finally confirmed for the masses that new episodes of the popular series will be produced and aired on BET. Network execs joked that this announcement is the “worst kept secret” in Hollywood, and anyone who reads blogs or listens to the radio would have to agree.

Let’s home BET doesn’t mess this one up. The Game is a popular series and this could be really big for the entire network.

Maybe the black sitcom isn’t dead after-all…

The word on the sidewalk is that BET is closer than ever at finalizing deals for a brand new season of “The Game.” The network is expected to officially announce the former CW comedy/drama series as a part of their line-up of original series for their upcoming upfront presentation this month. The majority of The Game’s original cast are expected to return.

Because the options on the actors had expired following the show’s cancellation in May, BET had to negotiate new deals with them. The network is expected to take lead in the production of the new episodes, with CBS Studios, which was behind “Game” when it was on CW, licensing the show to BET. Also, “Game” is expected to have a new showrunner, Salim Akil, who will take over for his wife, Brock Akil.

Brock Akil will be an executive producer on the series. She serves as a consulting producer on ABC’s freshman comedy “Cougar Town.” Salim Akil, who also will be an executive producer on “Game,” was the main director on the show while it was on CW, helming 45 episodes, and co-wrote an episode with his wife. He previously did a stint as exec producer showrunner on Showtime’s “Soul Food.”

“Game,” a spinoff from the long-running “Girlfriends,” which the ICM-repped Brock Akil also created, was canceled in May after three seasons and after Brock Akil pitched the network an hourlong version of the show. Following the cancellation, BET began preliminary talks with CBS Studios about possibly taking in the series with new originals. The cable net already runs repeats of “Game” and “Girlfriends.”

BET’s only previous stab at launching an original scripted series was the 2008 comedy “Somebodies,” which ran for one season.

Do you think BET will do a good job at bring “The Game” back to life? And better yet, will you be watching??

Former CW sitcom “The Game” is almost ready to head back to TV! According to our friends over at AOL BV Buzz, BET and Paramount have struck a deal to develop new episodes for the popular half-hour comedy/drama series. All that’s left at this point is for the actors to get under contract.

“The deal is done between the two networks,” the source told BV Buzz. “Now it’s a matter of getting the actors under contract again.” When The CW canceled the show in May of last year, the contracts with the shows stars Tia Mowry, Pooch Hall, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, Brittany Daniel and Coby Bell weren’t optioned and ultimately expired on June 30, 2009. Now BET has to negotiate new contracts with the actors, which is expected to be done within the next two weeks.

“The show will have the same production value, so the actors will make the same type of money they made when they did ‘The Game’ for The CW,” the source shared. There is a conflict now with actor Bell, who played Jason Pitts on the sports-themed comedy. It was just announced that he is joining the cast of the hit USA show, ‘Burn Notice.’ “He will likely still be able to work on ‘The Game,’ but only as a recurring character instead of being a series regular,” the source explained.

Once the deal is finalized, ‘The Game’ will begin production on new episodes in May and shoot on location in Atlanta. Mara Brock Akil, who also produced ‘Girlfriends,’ will return as the executive producer of the show as well. BET hopes to use ‘The Game’ to launch their new scripted television division, something that Debra Lee, CEO of Black Entertainment Television told BV Buzz when we reported on this story last summer.

“The show is getting picked up, so for people that have been petitioning and wondering, it is coming back to BET. So, hopefully, you will see me back,” Drew told S2S exclusively. “It is official. The deal has been done.”

Buzz of a partnership between BET and CBS TV that would reincarnate the once-cancelled sitcom began spreading in June. Last anyone heard, the network said it was close to a deal, but nothing was final. This news comes with the catch that production on another season of “The Game” hasn’t started just yet. And we heard that she show might actually be taping in Atlanta now.

“Right now, they’re just trying to figure out when it’s going to actually come back, as far as when we start filming the new episodes and things like that,” said Drew. “But BET has picked it up.” The Game has always had a wonderfully loyal fan base, and those who tried to convince the CW to keep it had a big hand in its resurrection. “Everybody that petitioned—believe it or not—about the show getting cancelled, that is really what ultimately had BET even looking to pick it up,” she explained. “It was really dope. Everybody really loves the show and supports the show, so all I can say is keep watching.”

But with the show is headed to a new home field does that mean all of the original cast will be coming along with it?

“I can’t say that for sure, but you will probably see a lot of the characters back,” Drew dished. She’s hoping to get a recurring spot on the show, reprising the self-named role of Drew Sidora. The big question there will be, if she does return, what does that mean for Derwin Davis and his new bride Melanie?

“Just bring people up to date with that because it was never resolved. It was something we always to bring back; it was all about the great timing of it,” Drew said.  “I think now people are going to want to see what happens with Mel and I. You know, you might see us out somewhere. And the same with Derwin.”

Speaking of new shows, Michael Vick has a BET show of his own in the works. The show, titled “The Michael Vick Project,” will reportedly show the football player making his controversial comeback in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles. It will also take viewers back to his troubled childhood and take a closer look into his 2007 arrest for running an illegal dog fighting ring.

The quarterback, who took his first regular-season pro snap just two weeks ago after serving 18 months in prison, is partnering with BET for a new eight-part docu-series scheduled to air early next year. The program, tentatively titled “The Michael Vick Project,” spotlights his controversial comeback with the Philadelphia Eagles while also examining his tumultuous past — including his troubled childhood and his 2007 arrest for running a dogfighting ring.

“I just want people to really get to know me as an individual,” Vick said last week in an interview from his home in Philadelphia. “What I want to do is change the perception of me. I am a human being. I’ve made some mistakes in the past, and I wish it had never happened. But it’s not about how you fall, but about how you pick yourself up.”

The onetime NFL star’s decision to expose his private life to a television audience follows a flurry of recent news and sports media interviews, which began with “60 Minutes” in mid-August. The Vick series is a gamble for a quarterback who is eager to rehabilitate his tarnished image but also doesn’t want to incur the further wrath of animal rights protesters, many of whom argued against his reinstatement to the NFL.

The project is being produced by DuBose Entertainment; Vick’s production company, MV7 Productions; and Category 5 Entertainment. No one associated with the production would comment on Vick’s compensation for the series. In August, a federal judge approved Vick’s six-year plan to repay creditors an estimated $20 million and emerge from bankruptcy.

Vick is aware that the series may do little to alter the negative perception some hold against him. “All I can ask is that people are receptive and come to this with an open mind,” said Vick. “I can’t change the past, I can only change the present. I know there are people who can’t forget what I did, but I hope they can someday forgive me.”

Our people over at Hip Hollywood caught up with the 43-year-old actress in between takes. When they asked her how she felt about being a part of the cast, she had no shame in announcing her excitement.

I feel so welcomed. It’s like I’ve been there the whole time. It’s just … the energy! You’re happy to be at work, which is rare! But you know what? After this scene, I think I scored! I think I’m in there. So, you know, fingers crossed, I don’t know.
