New dad Jay-Z partied in style as he made his first public appearance since the birth of his daughter Blue Ivy Carter Wednesday night (Jan 18) at the relaunch of his 40/40 nightclub in New York City.

Of course his wife (and new mom) Beyonce stayed at home with their newborn daughter, but there were plenty of other celebs who showed up to party, including Swizz Beatz, Ashanti, Russell Simmons, Kevin Liles, producer Rico Love, supermodel Selita Ebanks, filmmaker Spike Lee, record executive Steve Stoute, and many others.

Even Warren Buffett — the THIRD RICHEST MAN IN THE WORLD worth around $50 billion — partied with Jay-Z and his industry friends, and was even spotted throwing up the “Roc” sign. (That sh*t cray!)

According to various reports, Jay-Z laid on a champagne tower made of 350 handmade gold Armand de Brignac bottles that stretched from floor to ceiling, and was topped with a stork carrying a baby.

“All that preparation must have been thirsty work – judging from the champagne tower Jay laid on. Nothing like that has ever been created before,” an anonymous source said. “It was a bit [over the top] but he’s [crazy] about his daughter. There’s nothing he wouldn’t do for her. You’d expect nothing less from the richest man in rap.”

Sounds like everyone had a great time!

The 2011-12 NBA season officially kicked off on Christmas Day (Sun. Dec 25) with a number of basketball games, including the Boston Celtics vs. New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden, which was attended by R&B singer Alicia Keys, her producer/rapper husband Swizz Beatz and their 14-month-old son Egypt.

Alicia Keys, with her supportive husband Swizz Beatz by her side, celebrated the opening night of her Broadway play “Stick Fly” Thursday night (Dec 8) at the Cort Theatre in New York City.

“Stick Fly,” an original story written by Lydia Diamond, directed by Kenny Leon and executive produced by Alicia Keys, explores parental expectations, sibling rivalry, and issues of class and race as it follows an upper class African American family vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard. Actor Mekhi Phifer stars in the play.

Well, during his recent appearance on the “Russ Parr Morning Show” … Powell was asked what he thought about the ongoing feud between directors Spike Lee and Tyler Perry, and let’s just say Clifton didn’t hold anything back!

“To be honest, I don’t like Spike Lee. Spike is worse than any one of the mans. Because back in the day…and I hope Spike is listening cause I’ll beat your punk ass. I don’t like Spike. I have never said it publicly out, but Spike is a hater. He was doing all these movies, Sam and all these guys know he’s a hater. He kept all the money, there was lawsuits against him. I shouldn’t have said it like this, but I’m going to tell you the truth. I’m from the streets and you got to take care of your people…Spike needs to go sit his punk ass down and stop talking about Tyler Perry. Tyler Perry was homeless about 10, 12 years ago and Spike wasn’t writing him no checks. I don’t like Spike Lee because I don’t like his politics as it pertains to how he deals with African-Americans. I auditioned for Spike several times, he kept all of us waiting for hours. It was insulting, he made people fly across country, pay for themselves and come to auditions. Spike is the worst and he needs to go sit his punk ass down!

“He has never hired me, I don’t really care, because I would never want to work with him. Tyler has found his genre. The problem with being African-American in film as a producer, you have to be so worried about stepping on toes. We have just a few outlets in terms of the dimensions we are as a people. We zero in because there are not enough dimensions of what we do.”

Sheesh! Talk about letting loose!

Can we all just get along? At a recent Beverly Hills press conference promoting his latest movie, “Madea’s Big Happy Family,” Tyler Perry went a little Madea when the matter of Spike Lee came up.

“I’m so sick of hearing about damn Spike Lee,” Perry said during the press conference, according to Box Office Magazine. “Spike can go straight to hell! You can print that. I am sick of him talking about me.”

Perry’s remarks were referencing Lee’s constant criticism of Perry’s work. “I am sick of him — he talked about Whoopi, he talked about Oprah, he talked about me, he talked about Clint Eastwood. Spike needs to shut the hell up!” Perry continued

“I’ve never seen Jewish people attack Seinfeld and say, ‘This is a stereotype,’ he said. “I’ve never seen Italian people attack The Sopranos, I’ve never seen Jewish people complaining about Mrs. Doubtfire or Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie.”

Perry also mentioned other black artists who have faced similar critiques. “Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. DuBois went through the exact same thing,” he said.

This past Tuesday night (April 12), a few celebrities flooded Madison Square Garden in New York City for the Knicks vs. Bulls game.

The beautiful Kelly Rowland was in attendance alongside La La Vazquez-Anthony who was there to watch her hubby Carmelo hoop it up. Also in the building were Spike Lee, Swizz Beatz, Floyd Mayweather, Whoopi Goldberg and Vanessa Williams.

After attending the NYC premiere for his new movie “Never Say Never,” teen Pop sensation Justin Bieber hit up Madison Square Garden to watch the New York Knicks vs. Dallas Mavericks basketball game. Joined by professional Hockey player Henrik Lundqvist and his grandpa, Bieber watched the Knicks get defeated by the Mavericks, 113 to 97.

JB also shook hands with film director Spike Lee (who also attended his “Never Say Never” premiere), and he and Henrik posed for a quick picture with actor/comedian Chris Rock and his kids. But not everyone was happy to see the Biebs at the game.

According to sources, as the camera panned to the “Baby” singer during a time-out, the crowd boo’d him! One commenter said: “Why would you boo the kid?” to which his colleague replied “The boos are from the guys, the cheers are from the girls.”

Staples Center was full of celebrities during last night’s basketball game! As the Los Angeles Lakers took on New York Knicks Sunday night (Jan 9), lots of celebs, including Ciara, Spike Lee, Denzel Washington, Dr. Dre, George Lopez, Adam Sandler and others, were seated in their VIP courtside seats taking all of the bball action in.

Film director Spike Lee is known for his in-depth, heart-wrenching documentaries and his latest, “If God is Willing and Da Creek Don’t Rise” is no different. “If God is Willing” is about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina (like his 2006 documentary “When the Levees Broke”) and also focuses on the health, wellness and rebuilding of New Orleans and Louisiana in the 5 year wake of the devastating hurricane. One-half of the 4-hour special aired yesterday (Mon. Aug 23) on HBO with the other half set to air tonight.

Spike Lee recently sat down with Newsweek for a fairly in depth interview about the documentary, how it came about, the state of New Orleans/Louisiana today, and more. Check it below:

Did you plan from the outset to revisit New Orleans sometime after you did When the Levees Broke?
We knew we were going to revisit [it] before we were even finished with When the Levees Broke. We knew the story was not done, not that it’s going to be done any time soon; we wanted to revisit it, and HBO agreed with me. It was just a matter of determining when we would return, and we felt like five was a good number, so we decided to do something that could air just prior to the fifth anniversary.

You’re known first as a director of scripted fare. Have you considered, or would you consider, a scripted project about post-Katrina New Orleans?
Nah, David Simon is already doing that on HBO with Treme. I liked it very much, I’m a big fan of David Simon’s work.

The first film explored the theory that the levees were intentionally detonated …
Wait a minute. Wait a minute. That’s not—the first film was four hours long; that’s not the only thing it was about.

But you do talk to people in the film who held that opinion. Did you find that people who held that theory then still hold it five years later?
If you ask the same people do they think the levees were blown the f–k up, they would say yes. Right now people are just trying to deal with this BP oil.

Given the inclusion of the BP oil spill in the film, how recently did you finish production?
Our last day of shooting was, like, two weeks ago.

How far along in the process were you before you decided the oil spill was necessary to include?
We were done. We were done shooting. And then we had to rethink everything after April 20.

What would constitute a successfully revitalized New Orleans?
Well, I’ll say affordable housing for all. I’d say a great education system. A levee system that is sound. A lot of people have a lot of questions about how safe those levees are, even after Katrina. It’s what you want for any city to prosper.

The new film explores how much of a psychological toll Katrina took on the residents of the city. Obviously things can be rebuilt, but do you think a personal sense of comfort or normalcy will ever return?
Still today, people are dealing with posttraumatic stress, especially kids, and this was five years ago. First of all, you can never feel 100 percent secure, because New Orleans is under sea level, and it’s in the direct path of storms during hurricane season. So it’s just a risk living there. You can only feel so secure because of where it is.

Some of the people you spoke to for the film left New Orleans and didn’t return. Why?
People have not returned because the projects they were living in were knocked down. People didn’t return because there are no jobs. People didn’t return because [their] rents have quadrupled. Other people have not returned because they’ve found a higher standard of living in Houston, San Antonio, and Atlanta. We have people laying it out in the film more eloquently than I can. They have better-paying jobs in their new cities; the education systems are better. Those are the main reasons why people have not returned.

As a director, how do you weigh the value of footage captured by a victim versus stuff you’ve shot?
It’s about getting the best motherf–king shot you can get, I don’t care where the f–k it comes from. If I shot something and it’s not good s–t, I’m trying to get the good s–t. That’s what filmmakers do. There’s no balance—I’m trying to get the best s–t possible. So I don’t care where the f–k the sources are, I’m trying to get the best footage to tell the story. I don’t go and say, “I want footage from this person or this person.” I want the footage. Whoever has the best footage to tell the story.

What criteria are you using to decide what the best shots are?
“The best shot” could mean a lot of things. There could be stuff where something is shot poorly or the sound is not great, but it’s the only thing available, so you don’t care that it doesn’t look great. Even with narrative film, there might be a take where the sun came in, but that take featured the best performance. I’m always going to take the performance.

Do you think people still care about Katrina five years later? Or is it all about Haiti now, and it’s like “Katrina’s over”?
Well, it’s not about Haiti now either. Haiti’s over. A couple weeks ago, [former president Bill] Clinton went back, and now we won’t be back to Haiti until a year. Same with this; everyone will go back for the five-year anniversary, but after the 29th, no one will care anymore. I was talking about this with Anderson Cooper, who told me there are times when he wants to stay with a story but he can’t because people aren’t that interested anymore. People get fatigued. That’s where they got that term “Katrina fatigue.”

You weren’t stricken with Katrina fatigue.
No, not me. I was in Venice when it happened, and I was in my hotel room riveted to the television, watching CNN and the BBC. I just couldn’t believe I was watching Americans in the condition they were, standing on their houses, water all around them with signs that said “Help me.” That’s when I knew I wanted to do the first film.

Actor/writer/director Tyler Perry spoke out on fellow director Spike Lee‘s comments about his projects, including his Madea films and his television shows “Meet the Browns” and “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne.” And Perry didn’t hold back one bit.

Tyler Perry is one of the good guys of the entertainment business and let Lee have it. ”I would love to read that to my fan base,” Perry said. “Let me tell you what Madea, Brown and all of these characters are bait. Disarming, charming make you laugh bait so that I can slap Madea in something and talk about God, love, faith, forgiveness, family any of those things you know.”

He added that he is that he’s “insulted” and “pissed off” by comments Lee made about his work last May.

Former Spice Girl Melanie Brown (aka “Mel B”) attended the launch of the O2 Palm Pre Monday (Oct 12) in London, England.

This week, singer/songwriter Justin Timberlake will be hosting a charity event for the Shriners Children’s Hospital. Over 130 professional goffers will go head-to-head for a $4.2 million pot in his Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. The ultimate winner in the competition will walk away $756,000 richer.

Here Timberlake can be seen getting ready for his attempt to win a $1 million charitable donation to the children’s medical facility by hitting a hole-in-one on a 180-yard, par 3 hole at the Callaway Golf Center Monday (Oct 12) in Las Vegas. He had three chances to make the shot. Unsurprisingly, JT didn’t complete the challenge by making the nearly impossible shot, but a $5,000 donation will be made to the Shriners Hospital Children’s charity anyway.

Following the golf tournament will be a huge concert called “the Justin & Friends” concert, which will see performances from Snoop Dogg, Alicia Keys, Ciara and more.

Holly Robinson Peete and her family (including her husband, former NFL player Rodney Peete) spoke to the crowd during the 2009 Autism Speaks Walk Now of Autism event Saturday afternoon at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. This issue actually hits home for the Peetes, who have a 10-year-old autistic son named Rodney Jr.

Rihanna was spotted as she left the Opening Ceremony boutique after doing some shopping in LA yesterday. Does she know her boyfriend is walking around Ireland with a blue sequined heart on his chest?

The photogs caught Jamie Foxx on location for “Law Abiding Citizen” yesterday in Philadelphia. The movie also stars Gerard Butler, and is about an everyday guy who decides to take justice into his own hands after a plea bargain sets his family’s killers free. The guy’s target is the district attorney who orchestrated the deal. [ via IMDB ] Not sure how much of a role Jamie plays in this though. We’ll bring more details as they come.
