The 2009 BET Hip Hop Awards went down in Atlanta, GA Saturday (Oct 10). We hear Jay-Z and Young Jeezy opened the show in a big way with a surprise performance! Other tidbits from the show include the late DJ AM being the recipient of the “DJ of the Year” award, Kid & Play popping up during New Boyz‘ performance and Gucci Mane performing like 3 or 4 times. The show also featured performances from Soulja Boy, Ludacris, Jim Jones, Snoop Dogg and more.

The show, hosted by comedian Mike Epps, airs on BET on Tuesday, October 27th at 8/7c and we hear it was actually the best out of the few that have gone on over the past few years.

TMZ says an officer received a call about a group of young people hanging out at an abandoned house in the Henry County area in the rapper’s home state of Georgia. Authorities close to the case say when the officer arrived at the vacant house, he saw a group of young women walking towards the yard and when they didn’t stop after he asked them to, he followed them to the house, where he saw about 40 people in the yard.

When the people at the house spotted the cop, half of them, including 19-year-old Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em (real name: Deandre Way) ran off! The cop stuck around and spoke with the people who stayed, and they all claimed to be at the house for a music video shoot. When Deandre made his way back to the home to get his Range Rover, he was arrested for obstruction of justice, which is only a misdemeanor. He was taken to the jail and released.

Soulja Boy is set to perform tonight at the 2009 BET Hip Hop Awards in Atlanta.

Rappers Young Jeezy and Soulja Boy are seen here performing on stage during the America’s Most Wanted Music Festival this past Friday night (Jul 31) in Camden, NJ. Jeezy is a headliner for the tour while Soulja Boy is a supporting act.

The tour also features Lil Wayne and his Young Money crew, along with Pleasure P and Jeremih. Hip-hop newcomer Drake was also a part of the tour, but will most likely not finish out the rest of the dates due to his injury.

Oh, by the way. If you’re keeping up with Young Jeezy’s beef with mixtape king DJ Drama, you should hit up Rap Radar for Drama’s response to Jeezy’s XXL cover story. According to Drama, the reason why Jeezy is amped with him stems back to an album release party he was deejaying for Jeezy (for free) and a Gucci Mane record was played. And you know how much Jeezy and Gucci hate each other (long story, different day … use Google).

It was recently announced that he, Lil Wayne and Jeremih, along with special guests Drake and Soulja Boy, will team up for an extensive North American tour this summer. The “Young Money” tour, set to kick off later this month, will touch down in cities like Pittsburgh, Toronto (Canada), Washington D.C., Phoenix and Los Angeles before concluding near the end of August.

Here Jamie Foxx can be seen paying tribute to Michael Jackson (comedically, of course) as the host of the 2009 BET Awards, which aired live from Los Angeles Sunday night (Jun 28) on BET. Jamie Foxx is probably one of the few people who can make light of a sad situation and have everyone laughing and crying at the same time. The BET Awards was supposed to dedicate the entire show to Michael, per the press release sent out Friday, but failed to impress.

The show itself was pretty good, but they should have never mentioned dedicating the show to MIchael if they didn’t have the time to do it right. That said, we really hope they put together an entire special to honor the late King of Pop so they can at least try to save face. In a new interview, Soulja Boy said that he doesn’t really have any competition in the game on account of him having his “own lane.” He also cited Michael Jackson as the inspiration for his stage presence.

Speculation has been mounting for weeks, and now the highly anticipated tour featuring rappers Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, Soulja Boy and Drake has been given an official name, in addition to dates and venues. Dubbed “Young Money Presents: America’s Most Wanted Music Festival,” the tour will travel to 21 cities throughout the United States and Canada. Tickets will go on sale Saturday (Jun 20) via Ticketmaster, Live Nation and venue ticketing systems depending on venue.

This tour will be the follow up to Weezy’s highly successful “I Am Music Tour,” which played a total of 47 arena dates across the United States. After an opening act hits the stage, Wayne’s protege Drake will perform, followed by Soulja Boy, then Young Jeezy and last and most certainly not least … Lil Wayne!

Though Soulja Boy has always respected Jay-Z, he recently told MTV that he didn’t always like his music, mainly because he was young and just didn’t understand what he was talking about. In response to his fans saying a Jay-Z collab wouldn’t work because “he’s lame,” Soulja Boy says that reason is definitely not the case. Now that he’s older and grown up, he’s a fan and would like to work with him in the future.

Dates and a final line up are still on the verge of being confirmed, but word on the sidewalk is that Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, Drake and Soulja Boy are going on tour this summer! If this turns out to be true, this will most likely be the summer season’s biggest hip-hop tour.

A rep from Soulja Boy’s camp confirmed the news to MTV and Soulja Boy himself made a “TSA (Twitter Service Announcement)” on his Twitter Thursday (June 4) night also confirming the tour:

“TSA (Twitter Service Announcement) — I’m going on Tour with Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy & Drake this summer! Get ya tickets ASAP!!!!”

Soulja Boy logs another leap on the Billboard Hot 100 this week with “Kiss Me Thru The Phone,” which jumps from No. 9 to No. 4 and earns the week’s biggest airplay gainer title.

Album sales or not, Soulja Boy is still making paper! Low cost wireless provider Cricket Communications has partnered with the 18-year-old rapper to launch a brand new music store that will allow customers to purchase songs and download them directly to their mobile phones or computers. The network is attempting to be sort of a “one stop shop” that offers both mobile content and network services. Cricket believes Soulja Boy’s latest single “Kiss Me Thru the Phone” will drive users to the service. Soulja Boy has finally opened up about the incident that occured in December 2008, in which two unidentified men busted up in his crib with AK’s and put a gun to his friend’s head. In an interview with Big Boy (from Big Boy’s Neighbord), the 18-year-old rapper broke his silence and let us know what really went down. He didn’t give up too much information though for the sake of his fans, he says. Check out the video above.

“Basically I was at my crib and I had my album release party at my club that night. I got back to my house at around three in the morning and I was in the studio recording. So two of my homeboys was in the living room and me and Arab (a friend) we was in the studio recording. And somebody kicked in the door.

“One dude ran in put the AK (gun) to my homeboy head, put him on the floor. The other two ran in – my homeboy jumped in the other room – so the other two dudes ran back so I peeped in the door and they running through my house with Ks and pistols – so I ducked back.

“I really can’t dwell on what happened after that, but it was a messed up situation (and) I’m glad everyone made it out alive.”

In what started out as an unconfirmed rumor, we can now officially report that young rapper Soulja Boy was actually robbed at gunpoint outside of his Georgia home last week following the release party for his sophomore album, iSouljaBoyTellem. Rumors began to circulate across the internet that the 18-year-old rapper, who recently released a video stating that he believes Nas killed hip-hop, and members of his entourage were assaulted and robbed at gunpoint last Tuesday night (Dec. 30th) after six unnamed men invaded his home.

The next day, a video was leaked to the internet featuring two masked men who claimed responsibility for the attack. In the video, the two guys bragged about how they followed Soulja Boy from his album release party, which was held on December 30, 2008. They also cleared up some misconceptions about the robbery, stating that instead of six people being armed with pistols and AK-47s, the crime was completed between the two of them, using only one lone weapon.

But of course, the fans and the media blew the video off, marking it as a rumor. However, a rep from Soulja Boy’s camp confirmed the incident to AllHipHop.com, stating that it actually did take place, but provided no further details. The only information they provided to the popular hip-hop news site was that the crime was “a serious situation.”

In a 6 minute video posted exclusively to World Star Hip-Hop, Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em and his friends discuss how Nas killed hip-hop by saying those three fateful words: “Hip-Hop is dead.” Peep the video above.

18-year-old rapper Soulja Boy, with the help of The Associated Press and YouTube, sent out a video message speaking to his fans and anyone else who’s interested, apologizing for his actions in the past year. If you remember, we got on him pretty hard about making a comment shouting out slave masters back in November, but with this new apology, we’re willing to give him a second chance (as you’ve seen with the increased coverage on him). Everyone deserves a second chance, right?

BRAVO’S REAL HOUSEWIVES OF ATLANTA RENEWED FOR SECOND SEASON » Bravo’s hit reality series, “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” has been renewed for a second season. The show followed the lives of five “wealthy” women living in Atlanta, and was very popular among adults aged 18 – 49. It averaged 1.5 million views over the entire first season, according to Variety.com.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta is a part of Bravo’s “Real Housewives” franchise, and received higher ratings than any of the “Orange County” seasons or the “New York” season. The Atlanta season’s reunion special also produced the most number of viewers of a single episode in the history of the entire “Real Housewives” franchise, with nearly 3 million total viewers.

No word yet on when the season will premiere, but we do know the Leakes’ will have a ton of explaining to do. Especially after all of that digging Faux (Fox) News did. Racist bastards…

AKON PLEADS GUILTY IN FAN TOSSING INCIDENT » Singer Akon, and owner of Konvict Musik, reportedly pleaded guilty to harassment last week for tossing a fan from the stage during a concert last summer in Fishkill, New York. He accepted a plea deal in which he will serve zero hours behind bars, but he must perform 65 hours of community service, in addition to paying a $250 fine.

During a June 2007 concert in the small town of Fishkill, NY, the “Right Now (Na Na Na)” singer threw the boy off the stage, as in literally picked him up in the air, and threw him into the audience, after he had apparently thrown something at the 35-year-old singer. A woman in the crowd claims she suffered a concussion when the teen landed on her. The incident hit Youtube and subsequently every major website on the planet.

After accepting the plea, Akon shook hands with 16-year-old Anthony Smith, the guy he threw in the crowd, apologizing to him and his parents. Akon’s lawyer released the following statement:

“We are pleased that the case has been resolved and Akon looks forward to putting this unfortunate incident behind him.”

Akon’s original charges included minor second-degree harassment and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a minor.

You know what? If you take Soulja Boy’s music for what it really is – fun and entertaining – you can actually respect the man’s hustle! We make jokes about him all the time over here, but as time goes on, we actually respect him even more and more. It’s hard staying relevant in the music business these days, and Soulja Boy seems to have found the secret! 2007 was huge for him, 2008 was pretty big, and who knows what 2009 will bring with this new iSouljaBoyTellEm album, his sneaker endorsements, and whatever else comes his way.

18-year-old rapper Soulja Boy, who made headlines about a month ago for making statements thanking slave masters, took time out of promoting his forthcoming album, iSouljaBoyTellEm, to donate toys to underpriveleged kids via a charity event called “Toyz N Da Hood.”

Toyz N Da Hood was founded by Hittmenn DJ president Robert “Kaspa” Smith, and is partnered with the non-profit Kids with Strong Opinions, Inc. Together the two organizations reach out to Atlanta-based celebrities and present them with opportunities to give back to their native communities. Their past events included participation from Chris Brown, Akon, Young Jeezy, Polow Da Don, Mr. Collipark, and Devyne Stevens. As a Hip-Hop superstar that came from very humble beginnings, Soulja Boy jumped at the chance to assist in bringing a joyous holiday season to his young fans.

“It’s all about putting smiles on kids’ face this holiday season,” Soulja Boy told AllHipHop.com. “I’m happy to do anything I can during these hard economic times to make a kid’s holiday season a little brighter. Growing up I didn’t have much, so I can relate to these kids and know how important it is to them. To see how excited they get when we donate all these toys is worth anything I can do to make that possible.”

A toy drive will run through December 17 at various Atlanta middle and high schools, where students will compete to collect the most toys for their school. The winning school will earn a free concert featuring top Hip-Hop stars from the region. Last year, the drive succeeded is disseminating over 20,000 toys. This year’s goal is 50,000. On December 19, Soulja Boy hosts the centerpiece toy drive event at Atlanta’s Walmart, located on 6149 Old National Highway. In addition to signing autographs and copies of his latest album isouljaboytellem.com, the collected toys will be donated to underprivileged kids and low-income families.

Maybe he’s not such a butt-head after all… This is definitely a good look for the young rapper!

BET made up some bogus story talking about how Katt bet T-Pain he couldn’t beat him in a break dance battle, and how Katt’s hosting duties were up for grabs to whoever won. It later came to light that Williams had been arrested on the morning of the show. Sound familiar, anyone? *Cough* T.I. *cough* got arrested *cough* last year *cough* and he was *cough* supposed to perform. I’m just saying…

After the shooting at the celebrity party event, we thought it would ruin the week but it didn’t. Jermaine Dupri, Soulja Boy, Bow Wow, Nelly, Chris Tucker, Larenz Tate, Josh Smith, Kevin Hart, and many more played in the SoSoDef Vs. Derrty Ent. game last night at Morehouse College. Unfortunately I don’t have any photos of the event but JD has uploaded yet another video to his YouTube Channel so enjoy!
