VH1 hosted their “Divas 2011″ concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City Sunday night (Dec 18).

Among the celebrities who walked the red carpet just before the ceremony took place were R&B singers Jennifer Hudson, Jill Scott and Chaka Khan, as well as rappers 50 Cent and Common, Pop singer Jessie J and country music legend Dolly Parton.

Some of the other celebs who were spotted on the VH1 Divas 2011 red carpet were Nas, Mary J. Blige, Travie McCoy, Florence Welch, Lala Anthony and more.

Earlier this week during The View‘s “Hot Topics” segment, a discussion about how Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry has a rock outside his family’s hunting lodge that has the word “N**gerhead” printed on it (REALLY?!?) led to another debate about the general issue over use of the “N-Word.”

And as with any debate on The View, things heated up pretty quickly, with Sherri strongly disagreeing with Barbara Walters‘ use of the word in the middle of the discussion.

Whoopi Goldberg first used the word while quoting presidential candidate Hermain Cain, and Walters repeated it in context of their conversation, telling her co-hosts, “It’s very hard for me to say. … The fact that I just said it now gives me chills.”

When Walters let the word finally come out of her mouth, Sherri Shepherd, who has in the past shared how she’s been the victim of racially-motivated bullying, expressed how she was offended.

“I didn’t like the way you said it,” Shepherd told her co-host. “I don’t know if it’s a semantics thing, but it’s something that goes through my body.”

Shepherd told Goldberg, “When I heard you say it, it was fine. You said it a different way,” which prompted Walters to ask Shepherd point-blank if she took offense to the use of her using the word was because Walters was white.

“Yeah, it’s something about hearing you say it,” Shepherd said. “I don’t like it when you use the word. … When you say it, it’s a different connotation.”

Shepherd married her fiance Lamar Sally Saturday (Aug 13) in a ceremony at the Fairmont Hotel in the View co-host’s hometown of Chicago. Her 6-year-old son Jeffrey walked her down the aisle.

Shepherd tweeted just about every detail in the moments leading up to her big day and until she actually walked down the aisle.

“Going to bed now… Sal is in his suite. My last day as a single woman. Thank you Jesus for being in the midst of all this. Gotta get sleep,” she said the night before.

“What happens when you are in your wedding dress and you have to tinkle? Uh-oh!” she tweeted right before she walked down the aisle.

Bridesmaids at Sherri’s wedding included her “View” co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and actresses/comedians Niecy Nash and Yvette Nicole Brown.

The wedding will be broadcast in an upcoming special on the Style network on September 13th, titled “Wedding Fabulous: Sherri Shepherd Gets Married.”

Sherri Shepherd and Lamar Sally were introduced to each other by mutual friend Jay Tucker, who just got married himself back in May to Shepherd’s bridesmaid Niecy Nash. They got engaged after Sally, a TV writer, proposed to Shepherd in December 2010.

Speaking in early January about the engagement, Shepherd told her “View” co-hosts that she decided to marry Sally because “he not only loves me, he adores my son and my son adores him.”

The 2nd Annual Steve Harvey Foundation Gala took place on Monday night (Apr 4) at New York’s Cipriani Wall Street. The comedian, on behalf his foundation, honored Tyler Perry, Chris Rock and his wife Malaak Rock and others at the annual charity event.

Some of the stars who attended the ceremony were Russell Simmons and his niece Angela Simmons, music exec. Antonio “LA Reid,” Denzel Washington’s wife Pauletta, Gayle King, actor Boris Kodjoe and more. The event, hosted by Steve Harvey and Sherri Shepherd (from “The View”), ended up raising $600,000 for the Steve Harvey Mentoring Weekend for Young Men.

According to PEOPLE, the “View” co-host got engaged to TV writer Lamar Sally over the holidays. And let’s just say it wasn’t no ordinary proposal!

“Upon arriving back to Lamar’s home in Los Angeles from a trip to San Diego, Sherri was surprised to find their accommodations had been decorated with lights by one of Sal’s best friends, her dog was wearing a Santa beard and hat, and, in the middle of a dish of Sherri’s favorite but forbidden M&M’s (she is diabetic), was a tiny little box. With that, Sal took a knee and, backed up by the King of Pop, popped the question,” Shepherd’s rep released in a statement.

But right before popping the question, Sally asked permission from Sherri’s 5 year-old son, Jeffrey…….with a little help from the “Michael Jackson: The Experience” Wii game of course.

This guy really knows how to do it! What a unique and thoughtful proposal.

The Holidays are always a good time to help the less fortunate. On Wednesday (Dec 15) Singers Jay Sean and Patti LaBelle and TV personality Sherri Shepherd joined forces to feed New Yorkers for The Food Bank For NYC.

The event was held in Harlem and brought smiles to many faces in need. Jay Sean, Patti and Sherrie were all set up with sanitary food gloves and aprons and handed out meals and hugs to all who came. Good on them!

Every year, actor/comedian Steve Harvey (pictured above with his wife Marjorie) honors the contributions of local business owners, religious and community leaders, churches and schools across the country in what he affectionately calls “The Hoodie Awards.” And the 8th Annual Hoodie Awards were held Saturday night (Aug 28) at in Las Vegas, NV.

Actor-comedian/philanthropist Steve Harvey, his wife Marjorie and TV personality Robin Roberts hosted a charity event benefiting the Steve Harvey Foundation at Cipriani Wall Street Monday evening (May 3) in New York City. And thanks to a generous donation from actor Denzel Washington and his wife Paulette, who have a joint non-profit of their own, Steve raised over $1 million for his foundation, which empowers the lives of young men.

Steve Harvey had this to say about his friends’ big donation:

“I am stunned but at the same time I’m not because this gift exemplifies Denzel and Pauletta.  Giving comes real easy to them and although that’s surprising to a lot of people, its not surprising to us.  Marjorie and I are so grateful and will use this money in the spirit it has been given – to change the lives of young men around the world.”

Other celebrities at the event, which was a part of Steve Harvey’s Mentoring Weekend for Young Men, were Sherri Shepherd, Nicole Ari Parker, Common, L.A. Reid and more. R&B singer Toni Braxton also attended the charity event and performed for the attendees.

ABC’s “Nightline” aired a discussion panel with Steve Harvey, Sherri Shephard, Hill Harper and Jacque Reid on the topic: “Why Can’t A Success Black Woman Find A Man?” I want you guys to peep the video before I comment on it, and trust me, I’ve got a lot to say. Check out the video below:

Watching this panel discussion, for me, was almost cringe-worthy. Not because of what they were saying, because I’ve heard African-American female teenagers say this and I’ve had this discussion more than once, but I cringed at the fact that older, wiser, people were saying some of these comments which could be easily debunked. Hill Harper, twice, told two stories which immediately made Sherri Shephard look like a fool and I’m especially glad at his Obama story. This discussion will go on forever and ever because, honestly, I feel like the African-American population will never be satisfied. I think I’ve got the answer to this old age question that sparked this discussion. I feel that black women get frustrated when they see a black man with a white woman simply because they are threatened by the white woman. Yes, threatened. Now, let me tell you why.

First, I really don’t understand what the big deal is with a black man being with a white woman. I’ve dated both a black and white woman and who are you to tell me that one is right and one is wrong? Why do black women have such an issue with it? Nowhere in the Bible or in the law does it say a black man must date a black woman, does it? Don’t worry, I’ll wait…

It seems that it’s ONLY the black population who have a problem with it. If a black man dates a Hispanic, it all of a sudden turns to “oh, your baby will have good hair.” So all of a sudden it isn’t a problem? And why is it that a black woman can date a white man and they’re admired? The conversation again turns to “Ooooh! You got a white man? Giiiirrl can I get some of that? What kinda car he drive?” So let me get this straight? It’s NOT ok for a black man to date a black woman but when it’s vice versa? It’s perfectly fine?

Now I’ve heard all the reasons. Some say it’s because there aren’t enough black men already left. It’s either they’re gay, in jail, already married, or they have seven baby mamas. Well, we could say the same for you. These days in the black population, some girls don’t know if they’re straight or not. A quarter of ya’ll dress like guys, a lot of ya’ll are aggressive and quick to get in your man’s face yelling and wanting to hit him (I warn you, don’t! Remember what happened to Rihanna?).

And I know most of ya’ll go to sites like MediaT****** & WorldStarHipHop right? You’ve seen those women basically having sex (and oral sex) on the dance floor, don’t you? Need I say more? The woman could be already married also, and could have seven kids with seven different dads. Not to mention the girls these days who decide to look up to celebrities like Nicki Minaj and decide to dress like and be a “Barbie.” Out of all those twitpics of girls dressed up as “barbies,” how many were white? Don’t worry, I’ll wait… Besides, barbies are made for less than a dollar overseas and go for about $10. Sorry, men want real women, not a Barbie. There are PLENTY of good men out there but you just don’t want them. You want the “bad boy” and statistics prove it. Oh and riddle me this: why is it that when a black boy is growing up, going to school, he will be made fun of and called a “white boy” because he speaks “proper English.” So why do you have a problem with the “white boy” marrying a white girl? Hmm…

Moving on, like the man said in the video, you can not find the man of your dreams because you are looking for someone that simply does not exists. You set your standards so high that before the man even has a chance to reach it, you’ve already thrown him to the corner because he is “not good enough”. A lot of black women believe that they are better than black men because of, again, the stereotypes society has set. They will belittle black men to a point where they seem to have no value or respect for them anymore. And then you have the nerve to complain that you can’t find a good one? Why not get off your high horse for a second, take a glimpse at reality, and see that you will never find that man so it’s time to look elsewhere. How many times does the woman expect the man to buy this for her and buy that for her, and treat her to this and that? How many times have you heard your girlfriend say “if he’s not paying, it ain’t gonna work.” This is not a one-sided relationship and he is not expected to do every little thing your heart desires. Sorry, Superman doesn’t exists and even if he did, he’d still have a Kryptonite.

The next reason I’ve heard is the one I call the “Jill Scott Reason.” If you recall, Jill Scott said that her spirit winces when she sees a black man with a white woman. Jill’s reasoning for this goes back to the slave times of America. She recalls a time where the white woman would be placed on a pedestal while the black woman was beaten, raped, and overworked. “She was nothing and neither was our Black man.” She also goes on to reflect on the time when a Black man would be lynched, beaten, jailed, or shot to death for even looking at a White woman and during this, the black man and black woman struggled together and braved the pain together. So Jill doesn’t feel jealousy when she sees an interracial couple, she feels betrayed. Betrayed because after all that, the black man chose to date a white woman, leaving the black woman to “exert effeorts to raise our sons and daughters to appreciate themselves and respect others, most of [them] end up doing this important work alone…”

So to all the black women who feel this way, my response is simple, and it may sound extremely mean, but: Get. Over. It. Now, I don’t mean that we should forget the pain and suffering our African brothers and sisters went through. Hell, I was born and raised in Africa. But why do we as an African American population continue to blame a lot of our problems on these things that occurred in the past? We will never get anywhere if we keep dwelling on the past. As a wise man (Albus Dumbledore form Harry Potter LOL!) once said, “It is not good to dwell on the past…and forget to live.” We will never amount to greatness if we keep giving excuses and using the past to define who are now and the decisions we make. If anything, it should motivate us! We have a Black President for crying out loud! It is 2010! I understand where Jill is coming from but to me, her reasoning is not legitimate. What happened to “love is blind?” If I love someone, should I simply kick them to the side because their ancestor whom they have never met or known made bad decisions? We can’t help the cards that life has dealt us…but we can make them better. Now, if a black man was dating a white supremacist, then you should be worried.

None of these reasons seem like valid reasons to me so I’ve come up with the conclusion that the black woman that feel threatened by an interracial couple (and not all of them do) only feel that way because they are threatened, which, to me, is a damn shame! The media over the years have portrayed white women to be “better” than you (and we’re not saying that they are) and I don’t think a lot of black women have gotten over it so they immediately give the white women an evil look when they see them with a black mine. Stereotypes and statistics will tell us that white women will have better jobs, better houses, better homes, better cars, etc. and black women feel threatened by that and are upset. My response? Get over it! It is 2010! Your First Lady is black! You need to either step up your game or keep walking around a bitter old woman. It’s as simple as that. Black women have so much potential that it pains me when I see it not being used. Not only are you amazing cooks but you have natural nurturing skills, so why wouldn’t a man want to have kids with you? Look around a college campus – there are more black females than black males, so obviously you are smart, so why wouldn’t a man want to have you as his wife and his partner? Not to mention that black women got some hands so we know you can hold your own. Black women are strong and beautiful women so maybe it’s time to start acting like it and stop making excuses and blaming your problems on black men and white women.

Stop getting pissed every time you see a black man with a white woman. They can love whoever they want and if you have a problem with it, then stop complaining about it and being bitter and get out there and make yourself available to one. You see that thing that the white woman has that you don’t have? Well maybe it’s time to hop on it and get it for yourself. And if you won’t, then you’re just going to have to get over it. Continue to walk around bitter and man-less. #kanyeshrugs

Sherri’s ex husband has publicly asked her to stop using their divorce as material for what she talks about on The View for the sake of their 4-year-old son.

In an open letter obtained by RadarOnline.com, Tarpley points to Shepherd’s habit of highlighting his infidelity and their breakup while hosting The View, doing standup, giving interviews, and even on her Lifetime show Sherri that has one character based on Tarpley. The couple, who broke up five years ago after eight years of marriage, has a four year old son together.

“Having a relationship and children with a person in the limelight – someone who gets to express her thoughts, beliefs, opinions and grievances to the world on a daily basis – is not an easy proposition.

“Sherri Shepherd, to whom I was married for 8 years and have an amazing son with, has openly discussed and distorted details of our marriage for close to six years following our break-up. To this very day, my name is consistently dragged through the mud at her every opportunity. Sherri, don’t you think it’s time to move on?

“I’ve held my head high and kept silent as she continues to give interview after interview re-living the hardship she endured during the end of our marriage, while consistently airing our dirty laundry on The View. Though I believe the high road is typically the best course of action, it’s time that I take the opportunity to say, ‘Enough is enough!’

“Mistakes have been made, but they have not been one-sided, as the public is consistently led to believe. Though Sherri claims to be transparent, what good is transparency when you’re not taking ownership of your own faults? And while some might find her comments entertaining, to me and my loved ones they’re hurtful, misguided and spiteful. No matter how much she says she’s reached a place of forgiveness, her comments and actions clearly do not demonstrate this.

“Sherri knows that I value my privacy, which is violated every time she discusses our relationship, and my alleged faults and shortcomings. There’s not a day that goes by when I do not get calls or emails from friends letting me know they’ve either seen her on TV or in the media saying disparaging things about me. I can’t visit family without her most recent comments about me becoming the focus of discussion. Every aspect of my life is affected by her spiteful accusations; everywhere I go, people formulate incorrect opinions about me once they find out I’m the guy Sherri Shepherd always bashes. I’m not sure if this is her intention, but as we approach six years of this, isn’t it time to move on? Her misrepresentation of me and twisted facts surrounding our break-up are affecting my life and hurting my career.

“What’s shocking is that despite her steady stream of negative comments about me, and inaccurate portrayal of me on her Lifetime sitcom, I still receive gifts from her. Most recently, she sent me a Kevin Garnett Celtics jersey. Are these gifts a way of making her public accusations about me okay? It’s not that simple. My happiness and peace of mind cannot be bought. The only gift I want is for Sherri to move on with her life and stop using her talk show, her sitcom and national magazines to destroy my reputation.

“Though I’ve withheld my feelings for over five years in hopes that her animosity directed at me publicly would eventually subside, it continues to rage on. Sherri Shepherd has used every opportunity at her disposal to rehash my mistakes, comparing me to John Gosselin, Tiger Woods, Charlie Sheen, David Letterman, Eliot Spitzer and, most recently, John Edwards on a recent taping of The View. I know she’s fully aware that we have both done things that contributed to the demise of our marriage, which is why I can’t understand why she’s crucifying me over five years after our break-up.

“Sherri’s career has sky-rocketed, and regardless of how she’s unfairly treated me publicly, I truly wish her the best. She is, after all, the mother of my son. I’ve owned up to the mistakes I’ve made and I never claimed to be perfect. All I ask is that that she no longer dwell on the past; and instead, let’s move on with our lives while providing our son the best possible care. Can you imagine if I were the one with a hit daytime talk show and trashed her at every available opportunity; or created a character in a sitcom for the sole purpose of attacking her reputation? I know Sherri, and she would have spoken out well before year five; probably before hour five.

“The issues in our marriage that Sherri continually refers to happened around the time that Jeffrey was born. One thing Sherri never can deny nor has denied is the deep love and close bond I have with our son. Jeffrey will soon be socializing and interacting with other children, and eventually he will be able to search the Internet, where he’ll find article after article and countless video clips of his mom exacting a public revenge against his dad. Jeffrey does not deserve to grow up knowing that his mom used her notoriety to paint an inaccurate picture of his dad for the world to see. If not for me, it’s time to move on for the sake of our son.”

“If I had one scent that I would leave as my signature, it would be Heat. I hope that everyone is ready to catch the fever!” So said Beyoncé Knowles of her debut fragrance, Beyoncé Heat, at a star-studded launch party last night (complete with light show) in New York City’s Union Square.

The sultry 28-year-old, clad in a body-hugging red dress by Marc Bouwer, is (Sasha) fiercely proud of the signature eau she created with Coty. “I wanted it to be original and I didn’t want it to be like all the other celebrity brands.” explained Knowles. “It’s been two years in the making. Every little detail is very personal, so I’m extremely proud.”

And so far, the fragrance has been getting good reviews. Knowles has been testing the fragrance herself, wearing it on tour for the past year — “I never got so many compliments” — and, just the other night, to a little event called the Grammys. “My husband was like ‘You got 6 Grammys and you smell good.’”

Sorry about the big gap in updates today, we had some biz to handle … just like these celebrities we caught on the scene handling their business this past Tuesday! Rapper Wale visited Fuse Studios in New York City Tuesday (Nov 10) to appear on Fuse TV’s “Hip Hop Shop” to promote his new album Attention Deficit, which dropped that day. In a series of tweets following his debut album’s launch, the D.C. born emcee said that each song on his album tells a story:

“On the train, bumpin’ my album,” he wrote. “I feel like telling y’all facts about Attention Deficit. Why not? There’s a story behind every song. On ‘Mama Told Me,’ I had something stuck in my teeth. At the beginning you can hear me making this weird noise tryin’ to get it out.” (Warning: Once you know that fact, that’s the only think you can hear.)

A few minutes later, he added that producer Mark Ronson actually encouraged Wale to tone down the lyrics of “90210,” where he skewers Paris Hilton (among others). “I admit i was too mean on that,” he wrote. Finally, he said that the album’s best track almost fell by the wayside. “‘Contemplate’ almost didn’t make the album. Jay-Z was a writer on the song sampled and we couldn’t reach him until the last minute.”

Black Hollywood came out in droves Sunday night (Nov 1) to support the AFI Fest 2009 Screening of the new movie “Precious,” which stars newcomer Gabourey Sidibe and actress/comedienne turned late night talk show host Mo’Nique.

VH1′s Divas 2009 aired live from the Brooklyn Academy of Music Thursday night (Sep 17) in New York City and was hosted by former American Idol judge Paula Abdul. The “divas” for this year’s concert were Jennifer Hudson, Miley Cyrus, Leona Lewis, Adele, Jordin Sparks and Kelly Clarkson.

Other celebrities at the show who either performed or presented included India.Arie, Stevie Wonder, Toni Braxton, Sheryl Crow and more.

The View’s Sherri Shepherd is showing off her new bod on the cover of the latest issue of OK! Weekly. In the magazine, the talk show co-host reveals how she lost 41 pounds the old fashion way: diet and exercise.

She publicly stated on The View that she would be going on a diet and working with a personal trainer to knock off the weight she gained back after losing it the year before, upping the ante with promises of appearing on the live show in a bathing suit. Ms. Shepherd definitely kept her promise and now she’s telling her story!

“I lost weight last year and started gaining it back because I wasn’t exercising,” Sherri explains in the new issue of OK!. “I said to my producer, ‘Why don’t we do something where I tell people ‘Let’s do it together!’ and maybe [up the ante with] a bathing suit. The minute I said that, I was like, ‘Gosh, I should take it back because I really want M&M’s!’ But I had to do it. Then all of sudden I had all these people doing it with me. I’d Tweet about going to the gym and how hard it was, and followers would write and say, ‘Sherri, I’ve lost two pounds!’ I thought, ‘Okay, people are getting into this.’”

To help get her into swimsuit shape, Sherri enlisted the help of trainer Don Scott — who she refers to in her Tweets as the “Evil One” — and he spared certainly didn’t give her any slack because of her celebrity. “What I hate is when trainers say, ‘Okay, lets do 15,’ and then you get to 15, and they go ’10 more,’ She recalls about her time in the gym. “It has taken every mental thing I have to get to 15, so don’t put another 10 on me!”

Now Sherri’s focus is on maintaining her weight, without the trainer. “It’s just mandatory that I find something I like that I can really keep up,” she explains. “I just started this trapeze class that strengthens the arms, and tennis I love. I’m taking salsa lessons.”

In addition to her time in the gym, Sherri — who openly admits that she’s “not a cooker” — slimmed down with the help of delivered meals from Fresh Diet, including Turkey & Green Salsa Quesadillas, Pan-Seared Sea Scallops with Ginger Jerk Sauce, Salad Niçoise and Cinnamon Pear Cheesecake. “It’s freshly cooked and they delivered it in the mornings so I would just eat that,” Sherri explains.

But even with all this great food, there were still times when desire’s seductive head would pop up. “Sometimes I just said, ‘I don’t want tilapia anymore; I can’t even deal with salad. I want M&M’s and Ruffles,’” she confesses. “But the difference was I was gonna get back up and go to the gym and keep my commitment. I never once felt like I deprived myself.”

BET Networks recently announced via press release that rappers Jay-Z, Fabolous and Young Jeezy and gospel duo Mary Mary have all been added to the official line-up of performers for the 2009 BET Awards. The annual ceremony’s star-studded line-up of performers already includes platinum-selling artists like Beyonce, Kanye West, The Dream, Soulja Boy, Ne-Yo and Maxwell so the new additions to the roster will no doubt be in good company.

The popular African American entertainment network also announced that Queen Latifah, Taraji P. Henson, Sherri Shepherd, Idris Elba, Paula Patton and Solange Knowles have all been confirmed as presenters at the show, which will take place live via Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium on Sunday, June 28th at 8:00 P.M.

“This weekend, I was out in L.A., and I’m tweeting about [how] I had fried calamari and I had some buffalo wings and I just went totally off my diet. And it was great!” The View cohost said on the talk show Monday. “I did not know that my nutritional coach and my trainer follow me.”

Shepherd, 42, tweeted on Sunday that she “messed up a little last night … had fried calamari and fried catfish – gotta stay away from the soul food! Back on track today – gym at 3 pm.”

But before she could make up for her transgressions, she’d been discovered. “Ain’t this a blip! I was planning on fibbing 2 my trainer & nutritional coach about what I ate this weekend – but they follow me,” she tweeted later that day.

Her next meal out? Lighter soul food, thanks to her vigilant trainer. “Ordered chicken legs and thighs … the evil one (my trainer) made me take the skin off. Had a side of steamed veggies. Gave in w/diet Pepsi.”

It was a lesson learned for Shepherd about not giving away too much on Twitter. “You just assume when you tweet that you’re tweeting to people far away, not the person – your neighbor across the hall,” Shepherd said on The View. “I wish my coach would have not tweeted because she’s coming here tomorrow to get on me about what I ate.”
