Hollywood gathered on a somber note last night (Sat Feb 11) at Clive Davis’ 2012 Pre-Grammy Gala, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, the same hotel where R&B legend Whitney Houston was found dead earlier in the day.

When the sad news broke, there were reports that the annual Clive Davis event would be canceled, but Davis — Houston’s longtime friend and mentor — said that the R&B/Pop icon “would have wanted the music to go on.”

“She loved music and she loved this night that celebrates music,” said Davis, adding that Houston’s family requested that the party continue.

Some of the many celebrities in attendance at the Pre-Grammy Gala and Salute to Industry Icons Honoring Richard Branson and Diana Ross included Diddy, Britney Spears, Mary J. Blige, Quincy Jones, Kelly Rowland, Dr. Dre, Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz, Wiz Khalifa, Amber Rose, Jamie Foxx, Kim Kardashian, Gabrielle Union and more.

The star-studded event also featured performances from Alicia Keys, Ne-Yo, Pitbull, Marsha Ambrosius, Wiz Khalifa, Jessie J and others. Monica and Brandy were slated to perform their new single “It All Belongs to Me”, but we’re told they were unable to because they were too devastated about Whitney Houston’s passing.

Diana Ross, who was being honored at the event, told a red carpet reporter, “I won’t be able to enjoy it,” when she was asked how she felt about being the night’s guest of honor.

“By now you have all learned of the unspeakably tragic news of our beloved Whitney’s passing,” Clive Davis said at the start of the evening. “I don’t have to mask my emotion in front of a room full of so many dear friends. I am personally devastated by the loss of someone who has meant so much to me for so many years. Whitney was so full of life. She was so looking forward to tonight even though she wasn’t scheduled to perform.”

He continued, “Whitney was a beautiful person and a talent beyond compare. She graced this stage with her regal presence and gave so many memorable performances here over the years. Simply put, Whitney would have wanted the music to go on and her family asked that we carry on.”

Ne-Yo rubbed shoulders with supermodel Selita Ebanks and tennis phenom Serena Williams at The Compound Foundation’s 2011 Annual Benefit in New York City this past Wednesday night (Sep 14).

Tennis ace Serena Williams has spoken out about her alleged romance with rapper Drake. After a couple of weeks of stories and pictures circulating around the net, Williams has denied that they are anything more than friends.

“Oh, man. Really? We’re really close friends. Can’t be too close to a friend nowadays, I guess” she told the Toronto Star recently when asked if she and Drake were dating.

Earlier this month, her “close friend” Drake didn’t help the situation by tweeting:

Tennis superstar Serena Williams can now breathe a huge sigh of relief as her alleged stalker has been put behind bars.

40 year-old Patenema Ouedraogo was arrested yesterday in Florida, TMZ reports.

According to the police report, 40-year-old Patenema Ouedraogo was stopped by private security near Serena’s home in Palm Beach Gardens … who then held him in handcuffs until cops arrived.

Patenema is accused of trying to make contact with Serena several times … tracking her across the country from L.A. to Florida with clues from Serena’s Twitter account.

When Patenema was arrested, cops found a letter he wrote to Tyrese Gibson, saying, “If by any means you can help or arrange any meeting with my dream soul mate, I’d like to confess to you that Serena Williams is the one I would do anything to meet and let her know.”

Ouedraogo is reportedly still in custody and is being held on a $25,000 bond.

After her many recent health woes, Williams took to the court on her first day of practice and tweeted a pic of herself in a hot pink, sexy lycra leotard.Referring to herself in the third person, Serena tweeted:

“Look who I spotted on the court. Her first day back…”

We’re glad our girls has a clean bill of health and is back on the court!

Serena Williams feels lucky to be alive….

In an interview with PEOPLE, the tennis star reveals that she could have easily died from her medical emergency that sent her to the hospital last week.

“I could have died.” Williams told the magazine in regards to the condition she successfully underwent surgery for….pulmonary embolism, a sudden blockage of a major blood vessel in the lung caused by a blood clot.

At the time, Serena admits that she was in total disbelief that something like this was occurring…and even feared that it could possibly be a tumor.

“This can’t be happening to me. I started panicking, I thought I had a tumor.”

But the same way she is a fierce opponent on the tennis court…..Williams took on her biggest level of adversity as a challenge well worth fighting for.

“I like having a challenge. And this will be my biggest challenge yet.”

We’re glad to hear Serena is all good now….had us scared there for a sec!

Yesterday we reported that tennis star Serena Williams had to be rushed to an L.A. hospital to undergo emergency treatment for a pulmonary embolism (bloodclot in the lung).

The condition can be life threatening in severe cases, but Serena’s spokesperson,  Nicole Chabot, said, “thankfully everything was caught in time” and that Serena was resting and recovering at her home in Los Angeles.

Serena recently told PEOPLE Magazine:

“Thank you everyone for all of your prayers, concerns, and support. This has been extremely hard, scary, and disappointing. I am doing better, I’m at home now and working with my doctors to keep everything under control. I know I will be okay, but am praying and hoping this will all be behind me soon.  While I can’t make any promises now on my return [to tennis], I hope to be back by early summer. That said, my main goal is to make sure I get there safely.” (Source)

Yesterday afternoon (Tue. Mar 1), tennis phenomenon Serena Williams was rushed to an L.A. hospital to undergo emergency treatment for a pulmonary embolism, which in non-doctors’ terms is a blood clot in the lungs.

Williams’ rep released a statement explaining the unfortunate situation:

“Monday Serena Williams underwent emergency treatment at Cedars for a hematoma she suffered as a result of treatment for a more critical situation. Last week, Serena suffered from a pulmonary embolism [a blood clot in the lungs] which was discovered upon her return to L.A.  She had been in New York for doctor appointments for the ongoing issues with her foot. Doctors are continuing to monitor her situation closely to avoid additional complications.”-Source

Serena, who sustained a very odd foot injury by allegedly over the summer stepping on glass at a restaurant, was wearing a studded black cast on her right foot as she spent the night out and about in town. The Tennis champion had to pull out of the Australian Open due to her injury.

Today (December 1st) is World Aids Day, and Alicia Keys has teamed up with her husband Swizz Beatz, along with Kim Kardashian, Jay Sean, Ryan Seacrest and Serena Williams to promote awareness for HIV/AIDs. In honor of Keys’ Keep A Child Alive Foundation, the celebs mentioned have died a “digital” death and are posing in coffins to raise money for AIDs research to help find a cure for the deadly disease.

In addition, everyone is sacrificing their digital lives to help save real lives by not updating their Twitter and Facebook accounts until $1,000,000 is raised. Other participants in the campaign (not pictured) include Usher, Lady Gaga, Diddy, Justin Timberlake and Jennifer Hudson, and more. Once the money is raised, the celebs will “come back to life” and resume their digital lives on the popular social networking sites.

And now a source tells Life & Style Magazine that the two, who were spotted poolside at the Shore Club hotel in Miami Monday afternoon before the game, are “100 percent back together.”

“They were all over each other poolside,” the source continued.

The happy couple exchanged vows over the weekend (Sat. Jul 10) in front of 300 of their closest friends and family at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City. Insiders say the pair’s 3-year-old son Kiyan served as the ceremony’s ring bearer and escorted his parents to the alter before they said their “I do’s.” According to UsMagazine.com, the bride wore a Vera Wang gown as she walked down the aisle.

The star-studded guest list included folks like Kim Kardashian, Ciara, Kelly Rowland, Ludacris, Serena Williams, Trina, Kenyon Martin and more. Tennis champ Serena Williams is opening up about her relationship with rapper Common. In an upcoming feature in the August 2010 issue of Harper’s Bazaar Magazine, Serena says that Common was the reason why the two didn’t work out. According to the Wimbledon Champion, Common’s schedule was way too demanding and he “didn’t want the responsibility” of a relationship.

Serena told Harper’s Bazaar:

“His schedule is actually worse than mine. He didn’t want the responsibility. It’s really tough.”

Serena admits that she’s thankful the rapper/actor didn’t talk bad about her to the press or use the break-up as a means to promote his new movie “Just Wright,” which hit theaters around the time the two broke it off.

It turns out that contrary to recent reports, rapper Common has indeed split with his girlfriend Serena Williams. Common, who was in Chicago to support Kanye West and his 3rd Annual “Stay in School Event,” confirmed his split from the tennis champ during an interview with Chicago’s Fox News earlier this week:

“I am single. I am a single man, definitely.”

Well that finally clears it up (we think).

Common’s new album, tentatively titled The Believer, is due in stores this Fall.

Those Williams sisters don’t be playing no games! Friday (Jun 3), Serena and Venus Williams won their fourth consecutive doubles title, defeating Czech Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia, at the 2010 French Open in Paris. Venus and Serena managed to become the third team in women’s history to obtain four major titles.

Venus: “We just realize what it’s like to have that major title next to your name, and it’s pretty addictive.”

Serena: “When you’re out there and you’re playing singles, it’s a great feeling obviously. But also to play doubles with someone that’s your sister, your flesh and blood, that’s even better.”

We knew it was a bunch of bull!! Rapper Common and tennis pro Serena Williams are still together and happy as ever.

Last week a rumor went a round saying that the Hollywood couple had grown apart over some time, and that Common had even been spotted at the Tom Joyner Foundation Voyage acting rather single.

However our friends over at HipHollywood.com are reporting a totally different story and are denying all accusations being made that Common and Serena have split-up. Guess you can’t believe everything you hear!

After speaking directly to the source, HipHollywood.com can report exclusively, that Common and Serena are not splitting up. As a matter of fact the Rapper/Actor will at some point, pop up in Paris to support his girlfriend at the French Open. Common talked about his new movie role and his relationship with tennis star Serena Williams on a recent episode of the Ellen DeGeneres Show. The “Just Wright” movie star plays the role of an NBA basketball player who falls in love with his physical therapist, played by Queen Latifah. Actress Paula Patton and actor Laz Alonso also co-star in the film which hit theaters last Friday.

However, this isn’t the only “love story” the rapper turned actor spoke on during his interview with Ellen. He and Serena Williams have been dating for quite some time now and may be taking it to the next level: “Actually, Serena and I have been close for about two years. It’s been evolving,”

When asked about a future wedding arrangement by DeGeneres, Common replied: “I definitely want to get married. I would love to get married and have kids.”

He is also a strong supporter of Serena’s tennis career and can be found at the games looking rather tight! “I sit there, and I’m just tense… and people try and talk to me, and I tell them to be quiet,” he says. “I was sitting next to Richard Branson and I didn’t pay attention. I don’t care who is there. I’m focused on this tennis match.”

According to Kelly’s official website, her “I Heart My Girlfriends” charity will focus on women’s self-esteem and empowerment, date violence prevention, community service and mentoring, abstinence, media and financial literacy, obesity prevention, drug, alcohol and anti-smoking avoidance and much more. The website also says that the charity “will serve as an interactive support system for teenage girls.”

Tennis phenom Serena Williams “takes off her game face” and talks a bit about her life off the court in the March 15th issue of JET Magazine, on stands this coming Monday (Mar 8).

When Serena Williams, the No. 1 tennis player in the world, steps off the court, the 28-year-old exchanges her tough exterior for a fun, lighthearted nature as the baby of the Williams family. Jet caught up with the woman that has a 125-mph serve to find out about a side of her she rarely reveals. “I’m really sensitive. I always want everyone to be happy. I’m a pleaser. I never want to make people sad or let them down, sometimes it’s even to my demise. I have learned to take care of me more, and I’m definitely learning to do better at that.”

As Solange Knowles spun tunes on the turntable, Tide and Venus Williams hosted an event celebrating the launch of the new Tide Plus Febreeze Freshness Sport laundry detergent at The W South Beach Friday (Feb 5). A large number of celebrities took part in helping BET raise money for Haiti relief Friday night (Feb 5) at the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami, FL during the BET SOS Saving Ourselves – Help for Haiti benefit concert, which was hosted by Queen Latifah, Diddy and Pharrell Williams. Tennis phenom and Australian Open winner Serena Williams was all smiles as she made her way into a Physical Therapist’s office in Beverly Hills yesterday (Tues. Feb 2). And she has a damn good reason to have a smile painted on her face too.

Serena defeated her opponent Justine Henin during the 2010 Australian Open and walked away with the women’s title during the annual tournament, held Saturday (Jan 30) in Melbourne Australia at Melbourne Park.

Tennis phenom Serena Williams was fined over $82,000 a couple of weeks ago for an outburst this fall during the U.S. Open. And per her agreement with tennis officials, if she commits another major infraction in the next two years, she could be suspended from the event altogether.

In a blog entry posted to Global Grind, the 28-year-old pro tennis player tells her side of the story, with one major correction: she was fine $92,000 … not the $82,000 that’s being reported in the news. In the post, she says she paid $10k on site following the incident, adding that the $92,000 total fine was the biggest ever in the history of tennis. She also touched on why she blew up and talked about her own charities and her “$92k mission.” Serena writes:

Hey Guys!

As the world seems to know or for those who don’t I want to speak about my recently dubbed “outburst” and how I feel. I have recently been fined by the Grand Slam Committee of the ITF (International Tennis Federation) over 82 thousand dollars for getting mad and using the “F-bomb” at a line Judge. To clear things up FIRST I was NOT fined 82 thousand dollars. I was fined 92 thousand dollars! I paid 10 thousand dollars on site immediately after the U. S. Open. So for the record, I was fined $92,000 not $82,000! The biggest fine EVER in tennis.

Also for all those that don’t know, I felt incredibly bad, and miserable for losing my cool, and most importantly not representing the person I really am spiritually and the role model I want to be to my young fans. I have been a very feisty player all my life, but when the time came for me to be calm and cool, I did not exercise a mild temper. How I regret not being a better role model and person to all of my fans. I apologized to my fans and even wrote a personal letter to the lines woman with my apologies. She understood as she often witnesses this as it is not uncommon in my sport, or any other sport. She was extremely supportive and said that she did not think any further actions should be taken against me.

A few years ago in a most important match being watched my millions; I was blatantly cheated and robbed of a US Open title by yet another official. I was again on the wrong side of not one or two, but several other bad calls. This incident however changed tennis. Because of what was incorrectly done to me, the whole sport of tennis adapted new technology for a player to challenge the calls lines persons make if the player feels they were wronged. I was expected to take solace in the fact even though I lost the U.S Open title (a dream I’ve been working for since I was 2 years old). At least others won’t be wronged in the future. I am always happy for the next person. I always am. I received apologies from the USTA, the Lines Official, and the Head of the US Open. However I don’t recall EVER receiving a note, a phone call, a letter even a text from anyone at the Grand Slam Committee ITF apologizing about the wrong and disastrous call one of THEIR officials made.

When I was a teenager I was booed by an entire packed stadium at Indian Wells. In my new book “On the line” I talk about how I remember crying on every changeover in the towel. Praying and wishing I could lose and the match would just be done with. When the match was over I thanked the crowd those that cheered for me, and even those that did not. Looking back I am still amazed how I remained so calm and positive, and even managed to come out on top.

The fact is every professional athlete gets wronged in one way or another. And every athlete gets upset. We have been working, sacrificing, missing out on numerous things, things we will never get back or experience for the sake of our careers. For the sake of that one moment in time where we have a chance to shine through. Imagine for 20 years working day in, day out, sacrificing on countless things to get this job, that will make all your hard work and endless efforts worthwhile. Try to imagine having that promotion in one moment being taken away from you because of a slight over sight, by someone overseeing your work. 20 years gone away. Time to start over, dust yourself off and try again. You work harder make positive changes. It happens again.

“Dust yourself off” you say. “Try again.” You do just that. You work even harder than before, spend longer hours. Then it happens yet again. Another slight oversight. Well this is what happened to me, and to be honest I believe I reached my boiling point. After yet ANOTHER wrong call I began to wonder- Was I being “overlooked” or wrongly judged on purpose!??? Is this being done to keep me from achieving my best? Why does this keep happening at the same place?

Throughout my career I have remained calm. But I guess I finally reached my breaking point. A point I should have never allowed myself to get to. Everything seemed to have surfaced. As you know, losing my cool cost me over 92 thousand dollars. 92 thousand dollars! This is more than most people make in a year. 92 thousand dollars! Answer this: Why is it another player who also lost HIS cool not to a line judge – like I did – but to the main officiating judge- using the same “f word” why was HE only fined 10 thousand dollars. Was what I did 10 times worse than what he did?! There is another HE who was fined less than half of what I was fined after someone in his camp actually physically ATTACKED an official!!!! What about the famous HE who made arguing with officials “cool.” Cool for “MEN” I guess. Is it because they are all HE’s and not a SHE like me?

It is indeed a massive difference. Being American I guess the 1st amendment, freedom of speech, does not apply to a SHE in this case? In any event the Grand Slam Committee, ITF and its staff did not hesitate to call, send a note, text, nor write letters after this incident. Ironic is it not? I don’t mind being fined. If I did wrong I accept the repercussions. All I ask for is to be treated equal.

When I was fined the 92K, I asked to see if I could donate some of it to different schools, and programs I’m involved in. My request was denied. So, I decided to match the fine by raising money and donating an additional 92K to my 2nd school that I am opening up in Africa, as well as to schools that I am helping here in the United States. I also want to educate women about what I learned from this whole experience. How we as women are still treated as less than equal. I am going to turn this 92K into a positive!!! Sorry about the big gap in updates today, we had some biz to handle … just like these celebrities we caught on the scene handling their business this past Tuesday! Rapper Wale visited Fuse Studios in New York City Tuesday (Nov 10) to appear on Fuse TV’s “Hip Hop Shop” to promote his new album Attention Deficit, which dropped that day. In a series of tweets following his debut album’s launch, the D.C. born emcee said that each song on his album tells a story:

“On the train, bumpin’ my album,” he wrote. “I feel like telling y’all facts about Attention Deficit. Why not? There’s a story behind every song. On ‘Mama Told Me,’ I had something stuck in my teeth. At the beginning you can hear me making this weird noise tryin’ to get it out.” (Warning: Once you know that fact, that’s the only think you can hear.)

A few minutes later, he added that producer Mark Ronson actually encouraged Wale to tone down the lyrics of “90210,” where he skewers Paris Hilton (among others). “I admit i was too mean on that,” he wrote. Finally, he said that the album’s best track almost fell by the wayside. “‘Contemplate’ almost didn’t make the album. Jay-Z was a writer on the song sampled and we couldn’t reach him until the last minute.”

Tennis phenom Serena Williams hosted an autograph signing session for her new book “Queen of the Court” at Harrods department store Monday afternoon (Nov 2) in London, England.

We’re sure security was extra tight as this was the same place where Leona Lewis got hit in the face a few weeks back. Though we doubt anyone would attempt to try anything like that with Serena, unless they have some sort of death wish. Serena is straight from the hood and with all of that hardcore training she goes through on a regular basis, we’re sure she’s not anyone to mess with!

Newlyweds Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom were all boo’d up as they walked the red carpet of the grand opening of Phillippe Chow’s new restaurant in West Hollywood, California Monday (Oct 12).

Rapper/actress Eve and actress (now director) Drew Barrymore shared a hug Tuesday evening (Sep 29) at the after party for the premiere of “Whip It” at Hot Tub Johnny’s in Hollywood. The movie, which Eve stars in, was directed by Drew Barrymore and hits theaters nationwide Friday, October 2nd. This is Barrymore’s first time directing a film.

The Williams sisters obviously love tennis, but apparently they love them some football too! Venus and Serena Williams have purchased a stake in the NFL’s Miami Dolphins. The duo joins the likes of Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez and Glori and Emilio Estefan in becoming limited ownership partners in the Miami team, making them the first female African-American to hold an ownership stake in an NFL franchise. The Dolphins’ owner and managing partner, Stephen Ross, made the announcement Tuesday (Aug 25).

“I am so excited to be part of such a renowned organization,” says Serena. “Having spent so much of my childhood in the area, being involved with a staple of Miami culture is a huge honor. We look forward to many championships and much success together with the Miami Dolphins.”

Agrees Venus, “I am honored to be a partner in the Miami Dolphins franchise and thankful to owner Stephen Ross for allowing Serena and I to be part of Miami Dolphins history.”
