Singer Rihanna, pictured above with her boss, Island Def Jam record exec Antonio “L.A.” Reid, made a public appearance Monday night (Nov 9) in New York City at the Glamour Magazine 2009 Women of the Year Awards at Carnegie Hall.
Wearing an ivory gown by designer Stephane Rolland, here she can be seen hitting the red carpet of the event, designed to honor the biggest women of the year 2009. Read her acceptance speech below:
“It was a real honor to be named Glamour’s Woman of the Year, especially because I think of myself as just becoming a woman. I just turned 21 this year. Just to be mentioned in this group of women is overwhelming. I love being a part of a night where we’re celebrating women and such strong women.”

She thanked a host of people, including her record label, her mentor Jay-Z and her mother and grandmother.
“They are my two women of the year. I love you very much, Granny. I love you very much, mom. They’ve shown me what strong women can accomplish and achieve. Without their unconditional love and guidance, I wouldn’t be here, and I hope I can be an example for young girls and women today. Thank you so much.”
Other celebrities at the event were Estelle (who performed), actress Gabourey Sidibe, Serena Williams and more. Continue reading for the rest of the pictures!

According to our homie BlogXilla, ABC got a whopping 8.1 million people to tune in last Friday night (Nov 6) for that big Rihanna 20/20 interview with Diane Sawyer. He also posted an excerpt from a Complex Magazine interview where Rihanna talked about how she made her mom “pretty upset” when she smashed a glass bottle in her younger brother’s face.
Complex: Did you see 300?
Rihanna: [Deadly serious.] 300 is one of the best movies I have ever seen. The choreography, the fighting, the costumes, the production—phenomenal. I make everybody watch it.
Complex: So you didn’t think it was too violent.
Rihanna: Oh, not at all. That was the good part. I’m the oldest child with two brothers. We talk all the time now, but we used to fight—and when I say “fight,” I don’t mean arguments, I mean physically fight.
Complex: Who won?
Rihanna: I hit the older one in his face with a glass bottle.
Complex: Bokkle dem! Whoa. Remind me not to piss you off.
Rihanna: Yeah, my mom was pretty upset.
We’re just going to leave it at that and let you draw your own conclusions…
Also, Chris Brown released a statement following the 20/20 interview, maintaining his stance on keeping the details of the incident private. Too bad Rihanna didn’t get the memo beforehand.

It seems that Rihanna has stirred up a feud with Chris Brown’s people. It is being reported that Breezy will drop his music video for his second single “Crawl” this Friday on the Wendy Williams Show. Coincidentally, this is the same day that Rihanna’s video for “Russian Roulette” is set to be released. Also, an interview Chris did with Good Morning America will air sometime next month. Unfortunately, this isn’t a response to Rihanna’s interview as this was filmed months ago.
We’re hoping Wendy grills Chris and gets a reaction out of him on Rihanna’s “20/20″ interview. As for the interview with GMA, we’re kind of tired of this whole thing. Chris Brown has been interviewed about this one too many times. We hope he just sticks to promoting the album. As for the videos, which are you looking forward to the most? Watching Chris as he finds his way back to love, or watching as Rihanna shoots herself?

I will start this by saying this very clearly: I do NOT condone domestic violence. The views below are of mine and not of Gossip On This as a whole. Domestic violence is never okay under any circumstance and I do not believe it is right for a man to hit a woman, or in retrospect for a woman to hit a man. In addition, I am neither a Chris Brown nor a Rihanna fan. I do listen to their music and I enjoy some of it but I do not consider myself a fan of either artists. Now that that’s out of the way…
On the night of Friday November 6th, Rihanna’s very first post-assault interview aired on ABC’s 20/20 and naturally, the Internet was buzzing before the interview, through the interview, and even after the interview. Many finally saw Rihanna as a human as she told her story of what happened the night she and her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown got into an altercation. But on the other side, many others saw her as untruthful and selfish for using this as an opportunity to promote her upcoming album. Going into the interview, I expected Rihanna to tell her side of the story. I expected her to leave information out and to make Chris Brown seem like the bad guy. I expected her to throw him under the bus, run him over, reverse, and do it all over again. Unfortunately, after the interview, I realized that all my expectations came true.

In an exclusive one-on-one with ABC’s Diane Sawyer, pop singer Rihanna was very open about her and Chris Brown’s big February 2009 assault incident. Among other things she talked about why she went back to him originally, what she thought about his public apology and talked about what really happened in the car that night. She said as he was biting and punching her, he “had no soul in his eyes.”
“There was no person when I looked at him,” the 21-year-old singer recalled during the interview. “He had no soul in his eyes. Just blank.”
But does she want to give him a second chance? It would have to be in the future of course because for the next 5 years it would be illegal for her to even speak to him.
“I don’t have a desire at all to be with him. I can’t see how we could get back together but I’m also not God and I can not predict the future. It’s actually rather annoying that there is still some sort of emotion there. … I am strong. This happened to me. I didn’t cause this. I didn’t do it. This happened to me and it can happen to anyone. I’m glad it happened to me because now I can help young girls when they go through it. I will say that to any young girl that’s going through domestic violence. Don’t react off of love. Eff love. Come out of the situation and look at it third person for what it really is and then make your decision because love is so blind. It’s so blind.”

We guess Chris Brown is taking his turn to speak on the incident, even after he and his label put out that all further appearances/interviews would only relate to his new album and not the assault between him and Rihanna.
In a sit down with MTV News correspondent Sway, which aired on TV Friday (Nov 6), Chris talked about his September 2009 interview with CNN’s Larry King and how he was afraid how he would come off to the public when all was said and done:
“I was so nervous. I was super nervous. I didn’t know what to think [going in],” Brown said. “[There's] really not too much preparing you can do,” he continued. “I did a lot of media training and a lot of stuff like that, and it kind of wasn’t genuine to me. Everything I was saying was from my heart, but it was kind of controlled. ‘Well, don’t say it like this, because it will look like that.’”
Brown said he wanted to “just be personable,” but the setting was uncomfortable for him. “It wasn’t that kind of situation where I could be me,” he said. “So I was just: ‘I don’t wanna say anything wrong.’ ”
“The point of how I felt and what I wanted to get across came out [in the CNN interview], but I think at the end of the day, with any interview, even with this interview, I’m going to get public scrutiny or criticism regardless of what I say,” Brown said. “So I just didn’t know what was going to be said. I just wanted to let people know how I felt, at the end of the day.”

Good Morning America aired a snippet of the interview with Rihanna that will air tomorrow at tomorrow at 10pm EST on “20/20″. And it looks like she is going to go in on Chris Brown and possibly “the situation.” We’re kind of sad that this is what it’s resulted to to sell an album. We’re not condoning violence but to throw Chris under the bus simply to promote your own album…something about that doesn’t seem right.
Through all of Chris’ interviews, he held a sense of respect for Rihanna and what happened and said it was between both of them. Unfortunately, it looks like Rihanna will not be doing the same. We’re just hoping she doesn’t blame everything on Chris because even though we weren’t there, we know it takes two to tango and Chris didn’t tango alone. We wonder what his reaction is going to be after this airs.

Wearing a gray hooded jacket, a dark blue pair of jeans and a pair of black boots, pop singer Rihanna was spotted making her way through the airport terminals at John F. Kennedy International Airport Tuesday afternoon (Nov 3) to catch a flight out of New York City.
She and Chris Brown have never really spoken about what really happened between them the night of that February 2009 incident following the Clive Davids Grammy event, but it seems like slowly but surely they’re opening up more and more in these exclusive interviews.
Rihanna’s ABC News interview with Diane Sawyer is set to air Thursday on ABC’s Good Morning America and Friday on 20/20, and Rihanna says she and Chris became “dangeros” for each other the more in love they became.
