Michael Vick

As of Friday (Jun 11), Michael Vick is a free agent. He was officially released by his home team, the Atlanta falcons, and is free to sign with any team in the National Football League (NFL). Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff says it’s something they’ve been thinking about for a while now.

“We did our due diligence. We’ve been searching around the league and were looking for some interest as far as a trade. In the very end, we came to a conclusion that it was time. It was best for both us and Michael Vick to move on, to turn the chapter,” Dimitroff said in a statement.

What about other teams? Are they looking to sign the now ex convict?

Michael Vick

According to reports released by The Associated Press, Michael Vick, who is currently serving a 23-month prison sentence in Leavenworth, Kansas, will be getting sprung a little early! And due to the lack of space available for him at a halfway house, the former Atlanta Falcons quarterback will be able to serve the rest of his prison sentence on house arrest.

His lawyers originally expected him to be moved into a halfway house in Newport News any day now, but instead, he will be released to his Hampton home at some point on or after May 21st, a government official said. Vick will be confined to his home and will be electronically monitored 24/7 and will only be allowed to leave home for activities approved by his probation officer. He’s set to be eligible for release this July.

Akon

AKON PLEADS GUILTY IN FAN TOSSING INCIDENT » Singer Akon, and owner of Konvict Musik, reportedly pleaded guilty to harassment last week for tossing a fan from the stage during a concert last summer in Fishkill, New York. He accepted a plea deal in which he will serve zero hours behind bars, but he must perform 65 hours of community service, in addition to paying a $250 fine.

During a June 2007 concert in the small town of Fishkill, NY, the “Right Now (Na Na Na)” singer threw the boy off the stage, as in literally picked him up in the air, and threw him into the audience, after he had apparently thrown something at the 35-year-old singer. A woman in the crowd claims she suffered a concussion when the teen landed on her. The incident hit Youtube and subsequently every major website on the planet.

After accepting the plea, Akon shook hands with 16-year-old Anthony Smith, the guy he threw in the crowd, apologizing to him and his parents. Akon’s lawyer released the following statement:

“We are pleased that the case has been resolved and Akon looks forward to putting this unfortunate incident behind him.”

Akon’s original charges included minor second-degree harassment and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a minor.

Michael Vick Sentenced to 23 Months in Prison

Well folks, it appears as though the whole Michael Vick saga is finally over! The (currently) ex-quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons went before a judge this morning, and was sentenced to 23 months in prison. His original sentence would have been 24 months (2 years) but Vick went in early a month ago, so he’s already served a month. I know he’s pretty damn happy, though! They were originally talking about giving dude 4 - 5 years! I hope he’s learned his lesson from all of this though. I hate to see people get caught back up into the same shit once they’re back on the streets…

In other Michael Vick news, it’s been reported that the place where he has all of these dog fights has recently become a tourist attraction … no lie! The house, which was purchased for $750,000 by investor Ray Todd is for sell. He hopes to sell the property for about $1 million, and is hosting an “open house” for potential buyers. Some are seriously looking into purchasing the home, while others are just poking around being NOSY! Lol, y’all know how folks are!

“Well, we can’t change history,” says Todd. “History happens somewhere at somebody’s house. Hopefully it’ll spark some interest. A lot of people have questions about what went happened … Hopefully this answers some of those questions.”

Mike Vick Has to Hand over $20 Million to the Atlanta Falcons!

As if losing all credibility and possibly his career wasn’t enough, in addition to receiving some jail time (length unknown at the moment), Mr. Michael Vick, who was charged on several counts of “animal cruelty” has to pay a hefty price, to the tune of $20,000,000. Yeah, I could’ve said $20 million, but I had to add the zeros to add to the effect. No matter how rich you are, $20 million is a lot of damn money!

The disgraced quarterback lost the first round in his financial battle with the Atlanta Falcons when an arbitrator ruled Tuesday that Vick should repay most of the bonus money he got while secretly bankrolling the long-running operation. The case is far from over. The NFL Players Association said it will appeal the ruling by Stephen B. Burbank, a University of Pennsylvania law professor and special master who oversaw last week’s arbitration hearing in Philadelphia. The Falcons argued that Vick, who pleaded guilty to federal dogfighting charges, knew he was in violation of the contract when he signed a 10-year, $130 million deal in December 2004. The team said he used proceeds from the contract to fund his illicit activities and sought the repayment of $19,970,000 in bonuses he was paid over the last three years.

Any money the Falcons recover from Vick would be credited to its future salary cap, a huge step in recovering from the loss of the team’s franchise player. Atlanta (1-4) is off to a dismal start with Joey Harrington at quarterback. “We are certainly pleased with today’s ruling,” the Falcons said in a statement. “It is the first step in a process that our club has undertaken in an attempt to recoup significant salary cap space that will allow us to continue to build our football team today and in future years.” In a highly technical, nine-page ruling, Burbank said the Falcons were entitled to $3.75 million of the $7.5 million bonus that Vick was paid after signing the deal in 2004, $13.5 million of the $22.5 million in roster, reporting and playing bonuses he was paid in 2005 and 2006, and $2.72 million of the $7 million roster, reporting and playing bonus that he received this year.

Poor guy. And y’all know how frivolous these celebrities are with their money, so I would definitely be surprised if homeboy actually had every cent of the $20 million. Anyhow, he’s scheduled to be sentenced on December 10th. How long do you think he’ll get? A year? 5 years? 10? 20???

HALLE BERRY RECEIVES DEATH THREATS DIRECTED TOWARDS UNBORN CHILD!

PEOPLE ARE SICK NOW-A-DAYZ! » There are reports making their rounds across the ‘net that Halle Berry had to beef up security after receiving racist threats to harm her unborn baby. She’s expecting her first child with her boyfriend, Gabriel Aubry, whom is white. Recently, she received sickening letters from an anonymous person who has threatened to “chop her baby into one hundred pieces.” The threats, which were sent directly to Berry’s home in LA, are being investigated by police and the star has decided to pay for her own protection. “Halle does not normally use security,” the source says, “but she has taken on a couple of guys to make sure nothing happens.” If she had just had her baby by me, all of this could have been avoided! But all jokes aside, that’s some crazy mess right there…

Michael Vick Pleads GUILTY!

With three associates prepared to testify that he brutally executed dogs and bankrolled gambling, Atlanta falcons quarterback Michael Vick agreed earlier today to “accept full responsibility” for his role in a dogfighting ring and plead guilty to federal conspiracy charges. He faces 1 - 5 years in prison, not to mention his potentially damaged career in the NFL! The maximum term is five years in prison and a $250,000 fine, although federal sentencing guidelines likely would call for less. Defense attorneys would not give out details of the plea agreement or how much time Vick can expect to serve. However, a government official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the terms are not final, told The Associated Press that prosecutors will recommend a sentence of a year to 18 months.
