Authorities have released the full toxicology report from the autopsy of Rudy Eugene — the man who made headlines after he chewed another man’s face off in Miami on Memorial Day Weekend — and, contrary to popular belief, it looks like bath salts, or any other outrageous drugs for that matter, were NOT behind the gruesome attack.

According to a statement on the full toxicology report by the Miami-Dade medical examiner, the only drug detected in the 31-year-old’s lifeless body …. was marijuana. MARI … FREAKIN … JUANA!

Medical examiner Dr. Bruce Hyma said in his statement, “The laboratory has tested for but not detected any other street drugs, alcohol or prescription drugs…This includes cocaine, LSD, amphetamines (Ecstasy, Meth and others), phencyclidine (PCP or Angel Dust), heroin, oxycodone, Xanax, synthetic marijuana (Spice), and many other similar compounds.

A second forensic toxicology test conducted by a separate lab also confirmed the absence of the most comment ingredients found in bath salts, which mimic the effects of cocaine or methamphetamine and have been associated with various bizarre “zombie attack”-like crimes in recent months, and many — including Miami police officials — believed they were what caused Rudy Eugene to attack Ronald Poppo, and chew off at least 70% of his face.

“Within the limits of current technology by both laboratories,” the statement continued, “marijuana is the only drug identified in the body of Mr. Rudy Eugene.”

But that doesn’t necessarily mean weed — literally the least harmful “drug” known to man — is what made Rudy Eugene eat Ronald Poppo‘s face. According to the Miami Herald, the medical examiner’s report didn’t address previously reported autopsy findings of what appeared to be undigested pills in Eugene’s stomach … so we’ll most likely never know what really unhinged Eugene and caused him to act so violently

As Dr. Bruce Goldberger, Professor and Director of Toxicology at the University of Florida, noted in a report from the Associated Press, “The problem today is that there is an almost an infinite number of chemical substances out there that can trigger unusual behavior,” adding that the medical examiner’s office in Miami is known for doing thorough work, and he’s confident that they, as well as the second lab, covered as much ground as possible.

Still, Dr. Goldberger says that it’s almost impossible for toxicology testing to keep up with all of these new street drugs that literally come out of nowhere.

“There are many of these synthetic drugs that we currently don’t have the methodology to test on, and that is not the fault of the toxicology lab. The challenge today for the toxicology lab is to stay on top of these new chemicals and develop methodologies for them, but it’s very difficult and very expensive.” Goldberger said. “There is no one test or combination of tests that can detect every possible substance out there.”

Dr. Patricia Junquera, who is an assistant professor at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and is considered an expert on addictions, said she wouldn’t rule out the fact that a different “strain” of marijuana could have caused the attack.

“It could have been the strain of marijuana that increases the dopamine in the brain,” she said, adding that there are two strains of marijuana called sativa, which increases dopamine and gives you energy, and indica, which is a “sleepy high.”

“People don’t really know what the amount of either is in each little packet of marijuana,” Dr. Junquera explained. “And we can’t differentiate between the two in the blood, much less in a dead person.”

She also suggested that if Eugene suffered from a mental health condition, “the marijuana could have increased even further the dopamine levels and aggravated the situation,” which, she says, is why marijuana can’t be totally ruled out.

It’s been a little over a month since the May 26th incident, and officials still have no clue what led 31-year-old Rudy Eugene to attack Ronald Poppo, a 65-year-old homeless man who was asleep moments before the assault occurred.

Surveillance video from the Miami Herald’s parking garage nearby captured the 18-minute attack, in which Poppo woke up to Eugene stripping him naked, and beating him senseless, while his attacker used his bare teeth to chew off pieces of the flesh from his face.

The police officer who shot and killed Eugene said he growled at him, with pieces of Poppo’s face hanging from his mouth, when he was told to stop.

Surprisingly, the homeless man survived the bizarre attack, however … to this day, Ronald Poppo remains in a Miami hospital with some of the most serious injuries to his face doctors have ever seen.

According to local reports out of Miami, Rudy Eugene — a former football player for the North Miami Beach High School — was once diagnosed as schizophrenic after an arrest, and authorities are unsure as to whether or not he sought treatment for the condition.

Eugene was also reportedly accused of threatening to kill his mother in another incident in which he was arrested. But despite all of that, his friends and family members say they never expected the man they knew to commit such a horrific act.

Eugene’s friends and family have said that he was a religious, non-violent person, and that he didn’t drink or do any drugs other than marijuana. Eugene was reportedly participating in a Bible study and telling friends he wanted to stop smoking weed.

“There’s no answer for it, not really,” Eugene’s younger brother, Marckenson Charles, said in an interview. “Anybody who knew him knows this wasn’t the person we knew him to be. Whatever triggered him, there is no answer for this.”

Charles said that Eugene has been buried, and his family doesn’t plan on pursuing any legal action against the Miami PD for killing Eugene because they understand that the police had to use “the force they felt was necessary, even if we don’t agree with that.”

Meanwhile, despite the victim’s injuries (he lost an eye and his nose, and must undergo another round of reconstructive surgery), Ronald Poppo is said to be “doing well,” according to doctors at the Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.

His doctors say that mental health professionals have been helping him with the coping, and he’s coping “remarkably well.” Poppo’s family has said that they haven’t been in contact with him for more than 30 years and thought he was dead.

Now that we know that “bath salts” didn’t do it (and we know marijuana for damn sure didn’t do it)…

The first photos of “Miami Zombie” attack victim Ronald Poppo were released with his permission earlier this week during a press conference at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where Poppo has been receiving treatment.

The 65-year-old has reportedly undergone multiple skin graft surgeries since he was first admitted on May 26th, and doctors say that he is awake, alert and doing “well,” but is in need of more surgery.

In one of the photos, Ronald Poppo is shown walking down a hallway, assisted on either side by a hospital worker. The other photo shows a more recent look at the man’s horrific injuries — one of his eyes is covered by gauze, and the other, which was lost as a result of the attack, is covered by skin (since his eyelids were chewed off).

Poppo’s nose is also noticeably missing, and his forehead is a mass of scabs. The lower half of of his face, roughly from the mustache down, appears to be in tact.

Doctors said that approximately 50% of his face was missing, and that the “extremely charming” Poppo remembers the attack, understands that he is in the hospital, and is also aware of the mass media coverage.

“It’s amazing,” University of Miami trauma surgeon Nicholas Namias said of Poppo. “He’s an extremely charming man. You talk to him, he’s very upbeat, he’s very pleasant, he hasn’t said one thing negative to me. Every time I ask him how he’s doing, he says he’s doing fine.”

According to AP reports, Poppo — who requests Italian food and can’t wait to go swimming — has asked that the TV in his room be turned off … unless his favorite team the Miami Heat is playing.

“I kid you not, he wanted to talk about the NBA Finals,” Namias said. “He asked me if I’d be watching the game tonight, and told me, ‘Go Heat.’”

Poppo will reportedly remain in the hospital for several more weeks as doctors continue to repair what’s left of his face.

The media has been using the term “Zombie Apocalypse” a lot this week, following multiple incidents — in different places — where people have reportedly eaten other people’s body parts.

But what exactly is a “zombie apocalypse,” why is it one of Google’s most searched terms (it’s been a Top 10 trending topic all week) … and do us non-zombies really have anything to worry about?

The Urban Dictionary defines a so-called zombie apocalypse as:

“The End of the World … when people who have died rise again in rotten corpses searching for blood and brains to strengthen them. The Apocalypse is when all Zombies rise and destroy the world.”

While we are almost positive that the dead are not rising, in the past week, there have been multiple reports of cannibalistic activities.

And in one of the incidents, an actual brain was eaten … so we can understand where the widespread panic would come from.

Last Saturday (May 26), 31-year-old Rudy Eugene stripped completely naked, pounced on top of another man, 65-year-old Ronald Poppo, and chewed off large chunks of flesh from Poppo’s face and head near a busy freeway in Miami.

Eugene was shot dead by police, and Poppo remains in critical condition with at least 80% of his face completely gone. Police believe Eugene may have been on “bath salts” when he viciously attacked Poppo. His girlfriend thinks he was either drugged, or under a voo-doo spell.

Then, just a few days after the Miami incident comes reports from Maryland, detailing an incident in which a 21-year-old Morgan University student named Alexander Kinyua admitted to killing his roommate (37-year-old Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie), and using a knife to chop up his body parts before eating his heart and pieces of his brain.

Kodie — who lived with Kinyua and his family for about six weeks at their townhouse in a Baltimore suburb — had been missing since last Friday (May 25) after he left home for an early morning jog, and never came back.

The following Tuesday (May 29) was when Kinyua admitted his monstrous crime to police, after his father and brother called to report that they had discovered a set of human remains — a head and two hands — in a metal tin in their basement, which Kinyua originally tried to hide from them when they questioned him about it.

“He admitted to killing our missing person, Mr. Kodie, and cutting him up with a knife,” Hartford County Sheriff Jesse Bane told reporters Thursday. “He further stated that he consumed Mr. Kodie’s internal organs — specifically his heart and portions of his brain.”

In New Jersey, police say a man stabbed himself repeatedly in front of them, ripped his torso open, and then threw his skin and intestines at them.

43-year-old Wayne Carter underwent emergency surgery and remains in critical condition at a local hospital. Hackensack, New Jersey Police Lt. John Heinemann says Carter has a history of disorderly conduct, and has spent some time in a psychiatric hospital.

Then there’s the 26-year-old mixed martial arts fighter from California who is accused of ripping out the heart of his 21-year-old training partner while he was still alive, after becoming convinced that he was possessed by the devil.

Police say Jarrod Wyatt also cut out Taylor Powell‘s tongue, and ripped off most of his face in a brutal assault that they said looked like a scene straight out of a horror movie.

Wyatt was found naked, and covered in dried blood, standing over his dead friend with body parts — including an eyeball — scattered around the blood-splattered room.

According to an officer at the scene, Wyatt cooked Powell’s heart, tongue and parts of his face in a wood stove at his Klamath, California home, because he thought that Powell was still alive, and that he needed to “stop the devil.”

Police believe that Wyatt and Powell had both taken mushrooms before the horrific incident.

And that’s just here in the United States. As of Thursday (May 31), our friendly neighbors up in Canada are on an international manhunt for a man who is suspected of murdering and dismembering a friend, and mailing his body parts — a head, torso and a foot — to political party headquarters.

Canadian authorities say 29-year-old Luke Rocco Magnotta, who was born as Eric Clinton Newman, and also uses the alias Vladimir Romanov, posted a video of the killing and dismemberment online.

“We believe he filmed himself,” said Montreal police Commander Ian Lafreniere. “It’s gross.”

The victim has yet to be identified because the headless body that they discovered at Magnotta’s apartment — which was covered in blood — was too mutilated to make any immediate identification.

“I’ve been a police officer for more than 20 years now, and I met officers that were doing an investigation for more than 30 years, and they said they never saw a scene like that,” Lafreniere said.

Authorities believe Magnotta has fled the country, and may have gone to eastern Europe, though it is possible that he could have re-entered Canada under another name, because they say he’s really good at disguising himself.

With all of these gruesome, cannibalistic, inhumane incidents happening all in the same week, we can understand why everyone is in a frenzy … but officials at the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) say that the incidents shouldn’t be attributed to a “Zombie Apocalypse.”

BECAUSE ZOMBIES AREN’T FREAKING REAL, PEOPLE!!!!

“CDC does not know of a virus or condition that would reanimate the dead (or one that would present zombie-like symptoms),” agency spokesman David Daigle told The Huffington Post.

So to answer your questions … NO, there is NOT a Zombie Apocalypse … and NO, you should NOT be worried.

Just — with the exception of a little marijuana here and there — STAY AWAY FROM DRUGS and people who do them.

While zombies aren’t out to get you and eat your brain, if you know anyone who messes with “bath salts,” LSD, PCP, or even mushrooms (apparently), keep your distance.

Believe it or not, Rudy Eugene — the man who was gunned down in Miami after he ate more than half of another man’s face off — was a regular guy with a family, friends … and even a girlfriend.

31-year-old Rudy Eugene is a global spectacle, and has been making headlines worldwide after he chewed off 75-80% of the flesh from the face of a 65-year-old man named Ronald Poppo, who was reportedly homeless.

Earlier reports indicated that Eugene was also homeless, but as more details about his personal life and background emerge, comes news that he, in fact, had a home, and a live-in girlfriend.

On the Saturday morning (May 26) before Rudy Eugene would become known as the “Miami Cannibal” or the “Miami Zombie” … he held his Bible, and kissed his on-again, off-again girlfriend goodbye after he had woke her up at 5:30 am to tell her he was going out to meet with a “homeboy.”

Rudy’s girlfriend says he didn’t tell her the name of the friend, or where he was going, and she thought it was strange that he was going through the closet looking for clothes so early in the morning, but she didn’t question him about it.

Before running out the door, he gave her a kiss on the lips and told her “I love you.”

“I told him be safe and I love you too. When he walked out the door I closed it, locked it and went back to sleep,” said Rudy’s girlfriend — who spoke to the Miami Herald on Wednesday under the condition of anonymity.

An hour later she woke up to a phone call. Rudy had called her cell to tell her that his car had broke down.

“He called me and told me his car broke down. He said, ‘I’ll be home, but I’m going to be a little late.’ Then he said, ‘I’m going to call you right back.’”

But Rudy didn’t call back, and that was the last time that his girlfriend would speak to him.

She said she left several messages on his phone before she jumped into her car and drove through North Miami and Miami Gardens looking for him at places he frequents with friends and family.

“I was worried. I couldn’t do anything. I just kept calling the phone,” she said. “I left messages saying, ‘Rudy, call me, I’m really worried.’”

Later that night after she still hadn’t heard from Rudy, she turned on the TV to watch the late-night news, and heard the most unreal story she had probably heard in her entire life:

A naked man near the Miami Herald building had pounced on an innocent homeless man, and savagely used his teeth to rip chunks of flesh from the homeless man’s face. The cannibalistic attacker, with pieces of flesh dangling from his teeth, was shot dead by police.

This is what Ronald Poppo looked like before his face was ripped to shreds by Rudy Eugene, who may have been drugged, or under a voo-doo spell, according to his girlfriend.

“I thought to myself, ‘Oh my God, that’s crazy,’ she said, adding that she would have never guessed that the naked cannibal was her religious, Bible-toting boyfriend Rudy Eugene, who often reads scriptures to friends and family, and sometimes to her at night.

“If someone was lost or didn’t know God, he would tell them about him,” she said, adding that Rudy was a “believer in God” and was never violent around her in the five years that they’d been together.

Eugene’s girlfriend spent the next day — Sunday (May 27) — calling friends and family, asking if they had seen him. When they couldn’t come up with any answers, she took to the streets of Miami once again, but had no luck in finding him, as fate would have it.

She says Monday morning (May 28) was when she got the phone call that would change her life. “Rudy’s dead, Rudy’s dead,” the caller with terrible news shouted into the phone.

“I immediately started to scream,” she said. “I don’t know when I hung up the phone, I was hysterical.”

When she went to go grieve with the rest of Rudy’s family in North Miami Beach, the bad news, turned into worse news. The man everyone was referring to as the “Miami Zombie” … was her dead boyfriend.

She couldn’t believe it, she says. “That’s not Rudy, that’s not Rudy,” she remembered saying aloud in shock. “I’ll never be the same,” she said.

Rudy Eugene’s girlfriend says the man being depicted in the media as a “monster” isn’t the sweet, well-mannered man she knew and loved.

She said that even though he smoked a lot of weed, he didn’t use stronger recreational drugs, and even refused to take over-the-counter medication (like ibuprofen) for simple ailments such as headaches.

Eugene’s girlfriend also said that she was surprised to hear reports that he had been in South Beach in the hours before his savage attack against the homeless man.

In fact, she said Eugene had told her that he wanted to actually avoid South Beach, on account of the heavy police presence for Urban Beach Week. He had been arrested in the past for marijuana possession, and told her that he didn’t want to get arrested.

But Rudy’s girlfriend has her own theory about what happened that fateful day.

Miami police said they believe that when Eugene stripped naked and attacked the homeless man, he was under the influence of a new synthetic drug called “bath salts“ that mimics the effects of highly potent (and illegal) substances like cocaine, LSD and meth-amphetamines … and is known to trigger violent behavior and psychosis.

His girlfriend thinks that someone drugged him unknowingly. Either that, or a supernatural force took over his body and made him act out like a savage beast as as a result of someone putting a voodoo curse on him.

“Something happened out of the ordinary that day. I don’t want him to be labelled the ‘Miami Zombie’,” she told the Miami Herald.

Gruesome accounts of the violent attack may prove her theory that her boyfriend was either drugged or cursed.

An eyewitness told local reporters that he saw Eugene eating his victim’s face and ordered him to stop. “The guy just stood, his head up like that, with pieces of flesh in his mouth. And he growled,” the man said.

The gruesome attack would go on for nearly 20 minutes before officers were able to shoot and kill Eugene, who also growled at them as they too ordered him to stop.

Sgt. Armando Aguilar told a Miami NBC affiliate that Rudy “was actually swallowing pieces of the man’s face.”

He added that as a result of the savage attack, the victim’s “face [was] eaten down to his goatee … the forehead was just bone — no nose, no mouth.”

The 65-year-old victim — Ronald Poppo — is currently being treated at the city’s Jackson Memorial Hospital, and is said to be in “stable condition,” and will most likely recover.

There are reports that Poppo will undergo facial construction, with the costs (estimated to be up to $200,000) to be paid for by his local county.

His attacker, Rudy Eugene, is originally from the country of Haiti, where over 90% of the people are believed to practice voodoo. His girlfriend — who is not Haitian — said she didn’t believe in voodoo “until now.”

“I don’t know how else to explain the attack,” she said.

Eugene and his girlfriend met in 2007. She says Eugene pulled up to her while in traffic on a Miami street and motioned for her to roll down her window, which she did.

“I thought he was cute. I shouted out my number to him and he called me right then. We clicked immediately.”

Their five-year relationship had its ups and downs, and sometimes they would separate for months, then get back together again. Like most couples, she said their problems usually came from issues with communication.

She said Eugene worked at a car wash, and someday wanted to own his own business.

Police in Miami believe that the naked homeless man who was shot and killed while he ate the face of another homeless man may have been high on a dangerous drug known as “bath salts.”

Miami police identified the cannibalistic attacker as 31-year-old Rudy Eugene. His victim — identified as 65-year-old Ronald Poppo — remains in critical condition in a Miami-area hospital after at least 75-80% of his face was chewed off.

Hospital staffers say Poppo is suffering from “some of the most horrific injuries” they have ever encountered, and he is completely unrecognizable after Eugene ate part of his nose, cheeks, ears and eyes.

The harrowing attack, which has shocked the world, took place Saturday afternoon (May 26) on a freeway bridge near Miami Beach.

According to police, Rudy Eugene, who they believe had come from a Memorial Day weekend beach party, stripped a sleeping Ronald Poppo naked, beat him, then proceeded to chew lumps of flesh from his face and head.

Eugene continued to eat the man’s face even after a Miami police officer shot him in the chest.

An eyewitness said that Eugene growled like an animal when officers told him to stop before they shot him half a dozen more times, killing him instantly.

Stomach-churning images of Ronald Poppo’s horrific injuries and the crime scene have gone viral.

The photos of the crime scene show a partially-clothed Poppo laying next to his fully nude attacker, and blood is everywhere.

Another set of photos, allegedly taken at the hospital, shows the extent of Poppo’s injuries, and the massive destruction done to his face and head. His facial features are non-existent, and all you can see is a bloody eye and a blood-soaked goatee.

Doctors, police and news reporters all theorize that Rudy Eugene was high on “bath salts,” a dangerous drug that mimics the effects of highly potent (and illegal) substances like cocaine, LSD and meth-amphetamines.

As Dr. Howard Mell, an emergency room physician from Ohio, noted to CBS News: “These are not the bath salts you buy at Victoria’s Secret … There’s not soap in them.”

Mell says that at least seven people — all under the age of 27 — have died in the two Cleveland-area hospitals where he works at as a result of using “bath salts,” which can cause severe agitation, rapid heart rate, high blood pressure and a number of other ailments.

The drug can also lead to the body overheating, which explains why Rudy Eugene stripped completely naked before his savage attack.

Users of the dangerous drug also experience hallucinations, lose touch with reality and can exhibit psychotic behavior, though calling Eugene’s behavior “psychotic” would be an understatement.

EMS workers who have responded to cases involving users who are high on “bath salts” say that they exhibit super-human strength and don’t respond to stun guns or tasers.

Several workers — and sometimes even burly police officers and/or security guards — are usually required to hold down a person who is high on “bath salts.”

“Addictive substances, whether they are bath salts, alcohol or other drugs, can have horrific and costly consequences. Sometimes these consequences can result from only one use; other times they are a result of the complex brain disease of addiction,” says Susan E. Foster, vice president and director of policy research and analysis at The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University.

“Together, risky use of addictive substances and addiction constitute our nation’s largest and most costly health problem. In the interest of health and public safety, Americans must begin to understand that substance use is a preventable public health problem and addiction is a treatable disease,” she added.

According to Jeffrey Scott, a spokesman for the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency, “bath salts” – the street name for the drug that is considered a replacement for cocaine or a synthetic form of the hallucinogen LSD — can be snorted, smoked, or broken down and injected.

In what sounds like a scene straight out of one of those ridiculous zombie movies, a naked man was shot to death by Miami police over the weekend … while the guy was chewing another man’s face off. Unsurprisingly, police believe cocaine may have been involved.

According to confirmed reports from several media outlets, a police officer responding to reports of gunfire Saturday afternoon (May 26) found two men fighting — one of whom was naked, and literally chewing the face of the second man on a highway exit ramp, alongside the parking garage of The Miami Herald.

The officer then ordered the naked, cannibalistic man to back away, but he continued to chew the man’s face, so the officer shot him.

Despite him being shot, the naked cannibal continued to “eat” the victim’s face, so the officer shot him six more times, killing him instantly.

The other man wasn’t hit, but according to a CBS affiliate news station, police sources said the victim was unrecognizable and had “virtually no face” after the naked man had eaten it halfway off.

The second man was transported to a trauma center, and is said to have suffered critical injuries (obviously).

Miami police aren’t releasing any details about the incident, but investigators believe that the victim may have been homeless and laying down when the crazy naked man pounced on him and started chewing on his face.

Police also have a theory that the naked man was suffering from “cocaine psychosis,” which explains why he was naked … though there are no details that explain why he chewed half of the homeless man’s face off.
