The 2012 Golden Globe Awards were hosted by Ricky Gervais (for the third time in a row) live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills Sunday night (Jan 15).

Big winners for the night included George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Idris Elba, and the movies “The Artist” and “The Descendants.”

Morgan Freeman was also honored during the three-hour ceremony, with Freeman taking home the Cecil B. De Mille Award, presented to him by legendary actor Sidney Poitier, which Freeman said was an honor in itself.

Pop diva Madonna also took home a Golden Globe Award for best song for “Masterpiece,” from her film “W.E.,” which she wrote and directed. She shared the award with co-writers Julie Frost and Jimmy Harry.

Meryl Streep is going through some changes!

The Oscar winning actress recently underwent a dramatic transformation for her role as former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher in a forthcoming biopic about her life called “The Iron Lady.”

“The prospect of exploring the swathe cut through history by this remarkable woman is a daunting and exciting challenge,” Streep said in a statement from the film’s producers. “I am trying to approach the role with as much zeal, fervour and attention to detail as the real Lady Thatcher possesses — I can only hope my stamina will begin to approach her own.”

The movie, due for release later this year, also stars Richard E. Grant, comedian John Sessions and veteran British actor Jim Broadbent who will play Thatcher’s husband Denis.

The script for the film, which began shooting at the end of January, covers a broad sweep of Thatcher’s career, and is said to be about “a woman who smashed through the barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male-dominated world.”

Margaret Thatcher, whose nickname gives the film its title, is the only woman ever to be British prime minister and is now 85 years old.

Angeline Jolie has beaten out her hubby’s ex-wife Jennifer Aniston to the top of Forbes’ new list of high-earning actresses. In the last 12 months, Jolie grossed $27 million, $2 million more than Aniston. Most of her income came from her 2008 action film Wanted and her paycheck for her new film Salt. There’s rumors of Jolie making an appearance in the Wanted sequel, even though she killed herself in the first one. Expect her to top the list next year if she is cast.
