Jeremy Renner has taken Matt Damon’s lead role in the newly refreshed “Bourne” franchise, which is set to continue this summer with the release of “Bourne Legacy.”

Plot Summary: The fourth installment of the highly successful Bourne series sees the return of the franchise’s screenwriter, Tony Gilroy, this time stepping into the director’s seat for an entry which sidelines main character Jason Bourne in order to focus on a fellow estranged assassin (Jeremy Renner).

“Bourne Legacy,” opening in theaters on August 3rd, co-stars Ed Norton, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Rachel Weisz.

In the accompanying interview, the “We Bought A Zoo” actor discusses everything from why he left the “Bourne Identity” movie franchise to what he thought about a joke President Obama said about another one of his movies, “The Adjustment Bureau.”

“I have to say, it was pretty funny. Whoever came up with it, it was a terrific joke.”

On the Bourne trilogy and choosing not to continue with the franchise:
“If you look at the first three movies, we kind of pounded that idea of identity and amnesia into the ground. We really got everything out of it that we could. So to reboot it, we need to come up with something completely new.”

On the new Bourne writer Tony Gilroy:
“I don’t blame Tony for taking a boatload of money and handing in what he handed in. It’s just that it was unreadable. This is a career-ender. I mean, I could put this thing up on eBay and it would be game over for that dude. It’s terrible. It’s really embarrassing. He was having a go, basically, and he took his money and left.”

Time Magazine recently revealed their Time 100 for 2011, the magazine’s eighth annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world, which includes Canada’s biggest pop star, one of America’s biggest TV stars … and a “Gossip Girl”-turned-big screen leading lady.

Hollywood notables littered the coveted list this year, including Justin Bieber, Chris Colfer, Blake Lively, Oprah Winfrey, Amy Poehler, Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg, Colin Firth, “Mad Men” creator Matthew Weiner, Prince William and Kate Middleton, Bruno Mars, Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg and designer Tom Ford.
