Black Hollywood came out in droves Sunday night (Nov 1) to support the AFI Fest 2009 Screening of the new movie “Precious,” which stars newcomer Gabourey Sidibe and actress/comedienne turned late night talk show host Mo’Nique.

Some of the big names who walked down the red carpet of the big Hollywood event, held at were Oprah, Tyler Perry, Queen Latifah, Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon, Mary J. Blige, Will Smith and much much more.

Ashanti sure is looking good these days! It’s hard to believe Nelly let all of that go. She and Ja Rule reunited on stage at the 2009 VH1 Hip Hop Honors Wednesday night (Sep 23), which saw performances from Wale, Kid Rock, Method Man & Redman, Eminem and more. The ceremony honored the pioneers of Def Jam along with the people, past and present, who helped create the label and build it into what it is today. Hosted by comedian Tracy Morgan, the show is set to make its television debut only on VH1 on Tuesday, October 13th at 9 pm.

It’s only right that the first Def Jam artist to be honored was the label’s foundation and face for so many years, LL Cool J. The Roots started it off with “Rock the Bells.” Black Thought ripped the first verse of the record, then gave way for a special guest: Eminem. Last year, Slim Shady publicly expressed his love for LL during a phone prank on DJ Tony Touch’s Shade 45 radio show. Spitting the second verse of “Rock the Bells” on Wednesday night, Em sounded almost exactly like the legend who inspired him. “Now I’m worldwide known/ Whether you like it or not/ My one-man band is Cut Creator…/ When he’s on the fader/ What’s my DJ’s name?” “Cut Creator!” The crowd yelled. Later, Kid Rock paid tribute to LL with “I’m Bad.” The Kid also DJed during the show, as did Ed Lover.

Rapper Jay-Z brought out the big guns when he performed Friday night (Sep 11) in New York City’s famed arena, Madison Square Garden for the “Answer the Call” 9/11 benefit concert. The Brooklyn, NYC born and raised hip-hop icon performed some of his biggest hits from his old albums and some new songs from his most recent album, The Blueprint 3. Rihanna, Kanye West, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Diddy, Pharrell, Swizz Beatz, John Mayer, Kid Cudi and Santigold joined Jay-Z on stage during the sold-out concert. All proceeds from the show went to the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund.

Mama Tina was even in the crowd showing her son-in-law some love and throwing up the Roc sign!

The leading ladies in Tyler Perry’s latest film, “I Can Do Bad All By Myself,” were spotted by the paparazzi as they were outside their hotels in Manhattan, New York City. Mary J. Blige, Taraji P. Henson and Gladys Knight were all on their way to promote the movie, which hits theaters this Friday, September 11th, which is also Taraji’s 38th birthday.

Geffen Records recording artist Mary J. Blige premiered “The One,” her new music video featuring up and coming rapper Drake, over the weekend. This track is the lead single from the R&B singer’s upcoming ninth studio album, Stronger, due in stores November 24th!

Blige premiered her new music video for “Stronger,” a song from the Lebron James Nike documentary “More Than a Game.” The documentary follows Lebron James and his childhood friends from grade school to playing at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio to being drafted in the NBA. Directed by Kristopher Belman, the film is set to be released to select theaters on October 2nd.

In related news, it’s being reported that she, along with Victoria Beckham, is in line to take Paula Abdul’s spot in the upcoming season of American Idol. Despite reports of Jennifer Lopez being set to be the new judge, reports state that she’s only been asked to do a couple of guest spots in the future. In related news, Mary J. Blige and Drake shot the video for their single, “The One,” last weekend. Drake made it to the set just one day after re-injuring himself on stage in Camden, NJ.

T.I. recently premiered the video for his duet with Mary J. Blige, “Remember Me,” a song that was supposed to be featured on the Atlanta rapper’s upcoming Paper Trail album re-release titled Paper Trail: Case Closed. But according to MTV, that re-release will not be happening as it has been shelved indefinitely by Atlantic Records.

Though no reason for the album being scrapped was given, a spokesperson for the label said that “the re-release is definitely not happening” and that they plan to release the new songs digitally.

Mary J. Blige has landed herself a new acting gig in Tyler Perry’s next Lionsgate film, “I Can Do Bad All By Myself,” set to release to theaters September 11th 2009. The film will also star Oscar nominated actress Taraji P. Henson.

Based on Perry’s stage play of the same name, the film centers around Blige’s character Tanya, a nightclub manager, and her good friend April, played by Henson. Also part of the cast is Perry’s comedic alter ego, Madea. Principal photography is already under way at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta.

Blige is also set to guest in a popular primetime television series, which will be announced at a later date. She previously appeared on HBO’s “Entourage” in 2007. The singer/songwriter is recording songs as well for the follow-up to her 2007 Matriarch/Geffen album, “Growing Pains.” The new album slated for release later this year.

MARY J. BLIGE & JAY-Z SUED OVER HIT SONG » R&B soul singer Mary J. Blige and long-time rapper friend Jay-Z are being sued over Mary J’s hit single, “Enough Cryin’” According to the federal lawsuit, which involves allegations of song theft, Jermaine Jumpp and MIchael C. Adams claim they dropped off a CD at Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins’ office, and that CD had a song on it caleld “On My Grind.”

Despite not hearing back from the megaproducer, they say the track appeared on Mary J. Blige’s album, The Breakthrough, as a song titled “Enough Cryin’.” The song, which was produced by Darkchild, later went on to become a single and had a fairly successful run on the Billboard charts. Adams and Jumpp claim MJB’s song sounds awfully familiar to their “On My Grind” song.

No amount in damages has been specified, but the duo is likely to request something to the tune of millions of dollars since the album went multi-platinum. Jay-Z wasn’t featured on the track vocally, but he received album credit as the co-writer of the song. No trial date has been announced yet.

But she won’t admit it outright. “I haven’t really watched it since Ruben [Studdard] won,” the singer tells me after cutting her workout short and grabbing the phone at her New Jersey home for our interview. But whether she likes it or not, she does think the juggernaut show does the contestants a huge disservice. “Honestly, it’s not giving most of them a real chance to become an artist for the rest of their lives,” she explains. “They are on national TV every night. Jay and Mary had to postpone their Oakland, CA show, which was originally scheduled for Sunday night, to last night. They, of course, killed it on stage. No surprise there. But according to a source close to Jay-Z, the two got drunk and had so much fun the night before in Vegas that they decided to push the show back one night … to get some rest, I suppose. But that’s not the story they told their concert-going fans. They lied and said they had some “technical difficulties,” when in reality, they just didn’t feel like performing in front of a non-sellout crowd. Check out the e-mail below:

The weekend has come and gone, and no media outlets are reporting that they have received statements from publicists of neither Beyonce nor Jay-Z. But Mary J. Blige, who is currently on tour with Jay, couldn’t hold it in at the Greensboro, NC concert Saturday night, reports People.

“Congratulations to my man, Jay-Z, and my girl B,” the singer said before starting her set.

So yeah, to all of the doubters and nay-sayers, the wedding really did happen.

Hip-hop king Jay-Z and R&B queen Mary J. Blige showed up and showed out (from what I hear) in Miami’s American Airlines Arena Saturday night! The two were there, along with Kanye West, Timbaland, and The Dream, to kick off their Heart of the City tour. Rappers Young Jeezy and Fabolous showed their support from the audience, and were photographed backstage. It looked like a pretty damn good show! Wish I could have been there.
