Alicia Keys, with her supportive husband Swizz Beatz by her side, celebrated the opening night of her Broadway play “Stick Fly” Thursday night (Dec 8) at the Cort Theatre in New York City.

“Stick Fly,” an original story written by Lydia Diamond, directed by Kenny Leon and executive produced by Alicia Keys, explores parental expectations, sibling rivalry, and issues of class and race as it follows an upper class African American family vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard. Actor Mekhi Phifer stars in the play.

Guests at the big premiere last night were Taraji P. Henson, Spike Lee, Malik Yoba, Tracee Ellis Ross and others.

Newlywed Lala Vazquez looked to be in a colorful mood last night (Tues. Oct 12) as she posed in a multi-colored dress on the red carpet of ESPN Magazine’s 2nd Annual “Body Issue” celebration at Skylight Studio in New York City.

Vazquez, who tied the knot to NBA player Carmelo Anthony over the summer and has a new reality show on VH1 called “Lala’s Full Court Wedding,” was joined by Estelle, Amare Stoudemire, Adrienne Bailon and Malik Yoba at the event.

Actor-comedian/philanthropist Steve Harvey, his wife Marjorie and TV personality Robin Roberts hosted a charity event benefiting the Steve Harvey Foundation at Cipriani Wall Street Monday evening (May 3) in New York City. And thanks to a generous donation from actor Denzel Washington and his wife Paulette, who have a joint non-profit of their own, Steve raised over $1 million for his foundation, which empowers the lives of young men.

Steve Harvey had this to say about his friends’ big donation:

“I am stunned but at the same time I’m not because this gift exemplifies Denzel and Pauletta.  Giving comes real easy to them and although that’s surprising to a lot of people, its not surprising to us.  Marjorie and I are so grateful and will use this money in the spirit it has been given – to change the lives of young men around the world.”

Other celebrities at the event, which was a part of Steve Harvey’s Mentoring Weekend for Young Men, were Sherri Shepherd, Nicole Ari Parker, Common, L.A. Reid and more. R&B singer Toni Braxton also attended the charity event and performed for the attendees.

R&B singer Monica dropped by BET studios in New York City to record a taping of “106 & Park” Monday (Feb 22). She was there to premiere her new “Everything to Me” music video and spread the word about her new album’s release. Mo also talked about how great of an “uncle” slash “godfather” Ludacris (her cousin) is to her two kids and recalled of him babysitting for an entire day by himself recently. Monica’s 6th studio album Still Standing is due in stores on March 23rd.

Actors Malika Yoba and Tracy Morgan also hit up 106 & Park Monday to promote their new projects. Tracy’s new movie “Cop Out” hits theaters this Friday (Feb 26) while Malik’s new film “Why Did I Get Married Too?” is due for an April 2nd release.
