Watch Lauryn Hill as she reflects in an interview with Reebok Classics on the recording/creativity process behind her timeless debut solo album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” released well over a decade ago back in 1998. The female rapstress also revealed what the album meant to her while she was making it, and whey it went on to become a classic.

Lauryn Hill just popped out a baby last week, and she’s already back to performing!

Just one week after giving birth to her sixth child, the singer/songwriter hit the stage in front of a packed crowd at the L.A. Rising Music Festival in downtown Los Angeles Saturday (Aug 30).

Like most celebrities would do nowadays, Lauryn Hill took to Twitter to clear up rumors that father to her 5 children Rohan Marley abandoned her while pregnant with her 6th child.

“Mr. Marley and I have a long and complex history about which MANY inaccuracies have been reported since the beginning. To speculate without the facts can only cause people to form WRONG conclusions. We both value privacy and for that reason defend and preserve our right to it,” Lauryn adamantly confirmed.

She also went on to surprisingly confirm that despite recent reports …. Marley is NOT the father of her newborn son.

“Contrary to the numerous reports, Mr. Marley did not abandon me while pregnant with his child. We have had long periods of separation over the years but our 5 children together remain a joy to both of us. Thank you for your concern and I appreciate all of the well wishes regarding the birth of my new son,” Hill said.

Showing his support to the mother of his children, Rohan took to Twitter to wish her all the best: “I’m forwarding all well wishes to Ms. Hill on the birth of her new son. I’m sure she’ll appreciate the love being sent to her.”

Guess that clears all that up!

“Mother and baby are fine,” says the source, who adds that Hill and family “had a little scare because the baby came out the womb with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck. All is well now and everyone is happy.”

Lauryn Hill made headlines just last month when she surprised the world with news that she was expecting her sixth child during a show in Detroit. The singer kept her pregnancy a secret for over 6 months.

“I keep having these children. I don’t know if I’m the most fertile woman in America. I’ve got five big children, you believe that? If you ask anybody I went to high school with, they’d be like puzzled… Wait till you hear the big secret though,” she hinted to her fans during a concert back in April.

Hill’s longtime boyfriend Rohan Marley, who she already has 5 kids with and recently denied the 6th being his, was recently in the news for allegedly dumping Hill (while she was pregnant) for a Brazilian supermodel.

But Rohan has since dismissed the rumors, saying, “Ms. Hill is the mother of my children, whom I have a tremendous amount of love and respect for. I would never do that.”

Despite the drama … congrats to the Marley-Hill family on their newest addition!

For those who thought otherwise, Rohan Marley has come forward and revealed that he is “not the father” of Lauryn Hill‘s child. (And for those who didn’t know….yup she’s preggo!)

During a conversation on Twitter, Rohan spilled the beans.

“2 things,” he wrote. “I’m not married and I don’t have anyone expecting anything.”

An editor from Clutch Magazine then responded to him asking; “So we are clear. 1.) You’re not married to your ex-wife or Lauryn, and 2.) She isn’t preggo w/your child, but someone else’s?”

Marley replied, “That is correct until I say out of my mouth to the contrary.”

So we guess the question now is…..WHO IS THE BABY DADDY???

Lauryn Hill is knocked-up!

The R&B legend made the announcement Saturday night at a concert at Detroit’s Chene Park. “She told the crowd, ‘I’m going to be taking time off to give birth’,” Ashley Trybula of Detroit radio station Hot 102.7 told Radar Online.

Just two months ago, Hill hinted at being pregnant to an audience at Club Nokia in L.A.

“I keep having these children. I don’t know if I’m the most fertile woman in America.”

This will be Lauryn’s sixth child with her boyfriend Rohan Marley.

Damn girl….you really trying to raise a small village.

Talk show host Jimmy Fallon hosted a week long tribute to Jamaican reggae legend, Bob Marley and both Lauryn Hill and Jennifer Hudson helped pay homage to the late great icon.

Mother to his 5 grandchildren and married to his son Rohan Marley, Lauryn paid tribute by belting out classics such as “Could You Be Loved” and “Chances Are”.

Jennifer Hudson lent her strong vocals to the classic “No Woman, No Cry”.

Famed music legend Lauryn Hill took to the jam-packed Coachella stage this past weekend (Fr. Apr 15), and performed a string of hits at the iconic music festival.

“F**k You” singer Cee-Lo Green also hit the stage at the 2011 Coachella Festival the same night, and performed some of his own songs, though he only had 20 minutes on the stage due to him arriving more than a half-hour past his scheduled time.

The “Doo Wop (That Thing)” singer will open round two of her tour on March 16th in Florida and will wrap up in May at the New Orleans Jazz Festival.

Much like the first leg of her tour, Lauryn will be playing at intimate venues.

Hill said of her decision to perform on small stages:

“One of the benefits of playing venues smaller than the ones I’m used to allows me the opportunity to not only reconnect with my supporters but to expose them to a portion of the musical journey I’ve been on which the world for the most part has not had access to. I’ve never shied away from being musically adventurous, nor am I known for being a lightweight when it comes to lyrical content or musical exploration.”

After being away from the stage for so long, is Lauryn polished in her performance skills? Almost … but not just yet, she says.

“Getting back out there to perform is a lot like resuming a strenuous sport after having been away from it for a while, but eventually the muscle memory kicks in, and each day brings progressive strength. It’s an exciting and real process which these audiences will get to witness.” (Source)

Ever had one of those “I can die now” moments when you finally get the chance to meet someone you’ve been admiring from afar for so long? Well, Keri Hilson had one of those moments when she came face-to-face with her idol Lauryn Hill backstage at Hill’s concert at the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City.

Keri Hilson has previously stated that she would like to work with the former Fugees member on some new music. Late last year, she told WENN:

“Lauryn Hill is someone who is very candid with her music… I have no intent to create some character for the sake of entertainment, I mean, I respect those who do, there are different avenues for entertainment but I loved her candidness, her candor, she’s just up there. She exposes all sides of herself, her vulnerabilities, insecurities but you also see the strength and her innocence. Even her business savvy she talks about in her records, I just appreciate seeing a woman in true form and that’s what I try to do with my music as well, so I figure it would be an awesome collaboration.”

Now that she’s finally met Lauryn Hill in person, Keri might actually get the chance to pen a few tracks for Hill’s highly anticipated comeback album (release date TBA).

The singer/rapper is in the middle of a comeback, and recently announced a 17-date tour around small, “intimate” venues around the country.

The tour, Lauryn’s first in over 7 years, is set to kick-off right after Christmas (Mon. Dec 27) at the High Line Ballroom in New York City.

“[Lauryn] will appear with a live band and big sound at some of the country’s most well-respected music venues, giving fans who have been anxiously awaiting her return to the stage something truly special,” the official press release said.

Hill will perform six dates in New York City before heading to Charlotte, Charleston (SC), Atlanta, St. Louis, Chicago and even Canada. The last date on the itinerary is Friday, February 4th in Montclair, NJ.

Lauryn Hill hit the stage and performed a medley of her hits at the 2010 “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way to Cure Parksinson’s” event Saturday night (Nov 13) at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City.

Actor Michael J. Fox hosts the event annually in honor of his foundation to help raise funding for research for Parkinson’s Disease, a condition Fox has been living with since the early 90′s. And last night’s 10th annual benefit raised over $4.7 million dollars after all was said and done.

Lauryn Hill says she is very very close to releasing her first album in 12 years and tells London newspaper The Guardian that “it’s time.” Hill recently took the stage during this summer’s “Rock the Bells” festival tour and performed different renditions of songs from her debut solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, in addition to a number of Fugees tracks.

People who attended the Rock the Bells shows and caught Lauryn Hill’s performance had a general consensus that they weren’t really feeling the spin she put on her old classics……however Hill says that change is necessary for progression:

“I have to upgrade [songs] a bit so that they’re still exciting, fresh and new”, Hill told MTV News in an interview after her ‘Rock the Bell’s’ performance this past weekend. “I’m not sure if the audience really understands. We need, or at least I need, a certain amount of spontaneity, a certain amount of improvisation at every show … It’s that unknown, that literal X factor that makes every show different, and something I want to continue to do.”

After achieving some success with the Fugees in the 90′s, Lauryn Hill put out her solo debut in 1998 and hasn’t put out any new music ever since, crediting a lack of creative inspiration for the 12-year delay.

“There’s been such a long period of time where I haven’t been able to communicate where my mind is, where my consciousness is, where my ideas are. This is an athletic discipline. You gotta be in shape to do it mentally, emotionally, spiritually, physically. But it’s time.”

Welcome back Lauryn!! You don’t understand how much you’ve been missed these past 12 years…

The crowd at this weekend’s Rock the Bells festival on Governor’s Island in New York City were on the receiving end of a special treat Saturday evening (Aug 28) when Lauryn Hill brought out A-list celebs like Beyonce, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz, Mary J. Blige, John Legend, Chris Rock and more to say hello during the “Fu-Gee-La” finale at the end of her set.

“It was love back. Love back. Love back,” Hill said later in her trailer about the parade of stars. Outside, Busta Rhymes — who was a guest performer of A Tribe Called Quest — came and said hello to her kids. “Reciprocity. It was wonderful to see everybody. I was so touched. I wanted everybody else to share in that moment. I wanted everybody else to see them.

Lauryn Hill is slowly but surely making steps towards returning to the music scene in a big way, and she took one step further by taking the stage over the weekend (Sat. Aug 21) by performing during Day 1 of the 2010 Rock the Bells Festival at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, California.

Backed by a 6-piece band, the uncontested “True Queen of Hip-Hop” ran through a set that classic included classic Lauryn Hill songs like “Lost Ones,” “Doo-Wop (That Thing),” and “Hurts So Bad” in addition to Fugees classics like “Ready or Not” and “Fugee La.”

**Rubs Eyes** ….. Is that REALLY YOU, Lauryn Hill?!?

WHY…YES IT IS!! The musician/actress painted a huge grin on her face as she posed for this picture outside the Macy’s Back to School event in New York City’s Herald Square Sunday night (Aug 15).

Lauryn Hill hasn’t put out a new album in over a decade, but hopefully news that her leaked track “Repercussions” has debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at #94 will push her to finally continue to make some new music and drop a new album in the near future! The last time Lauryn had a single on the Billboard charts as a solo artist was back in November 1999 with “Turn Your Lights Down Low” featuring Bob Marley.

The last album she put out was 1998′s critically acclaimed Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart and earned the entertainer several hit singles and 10 Grammy nominations (she won 5), pushing the project to achieve international success as time went on. In 2003, it was ranked #312 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s “500 Greatest Albums of All Time” cover feature.

Meanwhile, this weekend, according to various online reports, Lauryn Hill, who has been hitting the road and doing random shows, is scheduled to perform at the Rock the Bells concert this upcoming weekend in Los Angeles.

We’re just excited to see her slowly making her way back to the music industry! Welcome back Lauryn, we missed ya!

Irv Gotti raised a lot of eyebrows over the weekend when Vibe.com published a snippet of an interview where the producer/record label founder claims that Young Money femcee Nicki Minaj is (and we’re quoting this guy EXACTLY) “as talented as Lauryn Hill.”

VIBE: Does Nicki Minaj have what it takes to be a star?

Irv Gotti: The world has yet to see the best of Nicki Minaj. What she’s delivering to the world now is basically what they want. But I know that she’s a super talented superstar who can do anything at a high level—rap, sing, act, whatever she wants to do. This is just the beginning of Nicki Minaj. Her best is yet to come. In my opinion she is as talented as my other girl Lauryn Hill. They have completely different styles. But as far as the talent is concerned they both can do it all. Nicki just isn’t showing it yet ’cause she doesn’t want to. But world be prepared ’cause she’s the truth!

Pause! He said what? Don’t get us wrong, Nicki is a talented chick and everything……but comparing her to Lauryn Hill is a bit much. There’s no possible way to even BEGIN to compare the two! No wonder Murder Inc. crashed and burned and Ashanti is stuck somewhere singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”

It has been close to 15 years since Lauryn Hill was excited about doing music, but that displeasure with the industry is starting to change. The singer recently spoke with NPR and had this to say:

“There were things about myself, personal-growth things, that I had to go through in order to feel like it was worth it,” Hill told NPR News. “In fact, as musicians and artists, it’s important we have an environment — and I guess when I say environment, I really mean the [music] industry that really nurtures these gifts. Oftentimes, the machine can overlook the need to take care of the people who produce the sounds that have a lot to do with the health and well-being of society, or at least some aspect of society. And it’s important that people be given the time that they need to go through, to grow, so that the consciousness level of the general public is properly affected. Oftentimes, I think people are forced to make decisions prematurely.”

She went on to say that people really don’t know her singing ability:

“I’m trying to open up my range and really sing more,” she said. “With the Fugees initially, and even with Miseducation, it was very hip-hop — always a singing over beats. I don’t think people have really heard me sing out. So, if I do record again, perhaps it will have an expanded context, where people can hear a bit more.”

She finished the interview by saying this:

“I think it’s just time,” said Hill. “I’m starting to get excited again.”

Looks like Lauryn is back! It’s about dang on time!

Singer/rapper Lauryn Hill made a rare appearance last night (Mon. Apr 19) when she hit up the Tanzania Education Trust Gala and Reception, hosted by President Jakaya Kikwete of the United Republic of Tanzania, at Plaza Athenee in New York City. Before making her way into the building, she walked the red carpet for the first time in years and posed for a couple of pictures with fellow musician Anthony Hamilton and Goodwill Ambassador Doug Pitt.

Reclusive singer/rapper Lauryn Hill made a rare public appearance Friday night (Jan 29) at the Raggamuffin Festival at the Enmore Theater in Sydney, Australia. Her last performance was nearly three years ago and in between now and then a lot of people have been speculating about her whereabouts. Well, here she is! And she actually looks quite normal, which is great because recently, we’ve been seriously concerned about the state of her mind.

In related news, Wyclef Jean spoke to BBC Radio 1Xtra News recently and told them that his former group the Fugees may put aside their differences and record a charity single to raise money for Haiti earthquake victims in the near future. The last time Jean and his group members were together was back in 2006 at a special “Reunion Concert” in Hollywood. A year later in 2007, Wyclef told the press: “Before I work with Lauryn Hill again, you will have a better chance of seeing Osama Bin Laden and George W. Bush in Starbucks having a latte, discussing foreign policies… At this point I really think it will take an act of God to change her, because she is that far out there.”

The rapper, who has starred in movies including Bones and Hood of Horror, professes his love for the hit drama in the lyrics of his new single Gangsta Luv, and now he’s hoping producers and casting agents can find him a part in the series, starring Anna Paquin and her real-life fiance Stephen Moyer. He says, “You know I’m down with it. I love that show. I wish I could be on it. I’d be a hell of a vampire, don’t you think? So what’s happening True Blood, get at me – Snoop Dogg wants to be a vampire”

Michael Jackson’s three children, Prince Michael (12), Paris (11) and Prince Michael aka “Blanket” (7) were not inside the vehicle that was involved in an accident in Los Angeles Wednesday afternoon (Oct 21). Reports previously stated that the kids were on their way to a Karate class when the car they were riding in was rear-ended by a thirsty paparazzo.

But after further investigation, the LAPD are saying that the car that was hit was a security vehicle, and not the car the Jackson kids were in. The unidentified photographer who rear-ended the Jackson security car was charged after he reportedly fled the scene without exchanging insurance information. He was charged with a hit-and-run misdemeanor.

The damage done to the security vehicle was reported to be minor and the kids’ grandfather Joe Jackson told reporters that the kids and his wife Katherine, who was also in the vehicle, were okay.

The Fugees have been broken up for nearly 13 years and even though Wyclef Jean continues to praise his former bandmate Lauryn Hill’s talents, he insists that there is no hope for the group to get back together and make some new hits. But he says he likes it this way because he believes that a reunion would destroy the “myth” of the group.

He says, “To me, they’re (Fugees) great and they’re gonna always be great. But the Fugees, it’s better that it leaves the myth vibe. Like The Score is a myth. When you hear it, it’s a myth. It was done in the basement. Like you don’t wanna go from there to do a sequel and you’ve destroyed your complete myth.” But despite the fact he isn’t aiming to team up with Hill again, the rapper still considers his former frontwoman one of the best in the business.

He adds, “When I met Lauryn she was 14. Til today, I’ve worked with a whole lot of women in the studio… her talent surpasses talent. She’s the best rapper, she’s the best singer. It’s all equal. It’s not like she’s gonna sing a song and when she rhymes she’s gonna slack on it.”
