Rapper DMX walked the Red Carpet of the 2009 VH1 Hip Hop Honors Wednesday night (Sep 23) at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York City. His appearance at this year’s show marked his first public appearance/performance in at least three years. And we all know all of the drama he’s been getting himself into in the meantime.

Bill(ionaire) Gates called on R&B singer Monica to help celebrate the launch of his “Get Schooled” program, a nationwide initiative to help students, families and community members to join forces to improve America’s public education system and encourage young people to complete their education. The program was co-developed by media giant Viacom and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

In addition to Mo, stars like Morgan Freeman, Seal, Heidi Klum, Kevin Liles and BET’s Debra Lee all came out to support the event, which included a block party and concert where over 400 Los Angeles area public school students, parents, teachers and school administrators attended.

Rapper Jay-Z hosted a press conference early Monday (Aug 31) at Madison Square Garden in New York City for his upcoming “Answer the Call” charity concert, due to be held at MSG on September 11th, the day his album, Blueprint 3, drops. The show’s purpose is to raise money for the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund.
Beyonce and Kevin Liles, Executive VP of Warner Music Group, were also on hand at the press conference for the benefit.

Jay-Z and Rihanna attended a party celebrating Rocawear’s 10th anniversary at the Rocawear showroom Monday (Aug 10) in New York City. Other celebs in attendance were Kevin Liles, Anthony Anderson and Spike Lee, who will reportedly be directing a series of commercials honoring the clothing company’s 10th year in business.
In related news, Jay-Z and Rihanna, along with Kanye West, will perform their single “Run This Town” on the premiere of “The Jay Leno Show” on September 14th. This will be the first time Rihanna has performed in over six months! The trio recorded the video last weekend in New York City.

Hip-hop mogul Jay-Z invited media mogul/talk show host Oprah to his old neighborhood in the Marcy Projects of Bed-Stuy (Bedford-Stuyvesant) Brooklyn, New York City. The rapper, due to release his new album in a month, showed the Big O his grandmother’s house and more of his old stomping grounds for an upcoming interview in Oprah’s “O Magazine.” Word is Beyonce and Rihanna were in the area too…

Actress Gabrielle Union sat with Miami Heat basketballer Dwyane Wade at the Zo Summer Groove Publix charities benefit dinner titled “Deco After Dark” in Hollywood Saturday (Jul 11). No, not THAT Hollywood … the one in Florida. Oh, you didn’t know there was a Hollywood in Florida? You learn something new every day!

Ja Rule, Kevin Liles, Rev. Al Sharpton and others joined T.I. Monday afternoon in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City to collectively speak out against gun violence as T.I. and the K.I.N.G. Foundation held an anti-gun rally.
The event also honored the memory of two slain local teenagers, 13-year-old Christopher Owen and 17-year-old Corey Squires, both recently gun down. Continue reading for a few more photos from the rally.
