R&B singer/songwriter John Legend and his longtime supermodel girlfriend Chrissy Teigen are getting married!

“John Legend and his girlfriend, model Chrissy Teigen, got engaged over the holidays while vacationing in the Maldives,” Legend’s rep, Cindi Berger, tells PEOPLE.

No further details were provided, but Legend’s whereabouts this coming weekend are being reported in Las Vegas newspapers.

The singer, 32, will be performing at The Pearl at the Palms on New Year’s Eve. His latest album, with The Roots, is Wake Up!.

The 2011 American Music Awards took place at the Nokia Theater L.A. Live in Los Angeles, California last night (Sun. Nov 20).

R&B singer/songwriter John Legend is being accused of stealing an aspiring songwriter’s work.

Anthony Stokes claims that he gave the “Ordinary People” singer a demo tape of his song “Where Are You Now” after meeting him at the University of North Carolina back in 2004. He claims that Legend assured him he would take a listen to it but never got back to him.

Stokes has since filed a copyright infringement suit in the U.S. District Court of New Jersey-Newark on Tuesday.

E! Online reports:

Two years later, however, Stokes claims he was taken aback upon listening to “Maxine’s Interlude,” off his 2006 album Once Again, as the melodies and even lyrics sounded all too similar to his original composition. Now he wants unspecified damages for violating his copyright.

A rep for Legend was unavailable for comment. Sony Music Entertainment and Columbia Records were also named in the suit and have yet to issue a comment.

“My client was a college student at UNC and attended the school homecoming concert by John Legend. There was a meet and greet afterwards and my client, being a fan and aspiring songwriter himself, presented Mr. Legend with a demo of his original…copyrighted work”, Stokes attorney, Louis D. Tambaro, told E! News.

He continued, “He heard nothing. Fast-forward two years and Mr. Legend released an album with a song sounding eerily similar that was featured fairly heavily in concert performances in 2008, which is another aspect of our damages request. From our respective position the case will hinge on Mr. Legend’s access to my client’s work and…the similarity between the works that will require scientific analysis and expert opinion.”

Hopefully for John’s sake (and career) … this isn’t true.

John Legend and his girlfriend Christine Teigen partied it up with singers Ne-Yo and Estelle, as well as “Jersey Shore” star DJ Pauly D, at Legend’s 32nd birthday party at RdV lounge Wednesday night (Jan 5) in New York City.

With his gorgeous Thai-Norwegian model girlfriend Christine Teigen at his side, the ‘Live It Up’ singer hit the dance floor for most of the night, stopping to blow out candles on a giant birthday cake bearing a picture of him as a kid and pop open a magnum of Moet Chandon, which RdV bedazzled with rhinestones that said, ‘Happy Birthday John!’ “He loved that,” one partygoer tells PopEater.

“He had the best time,” the source says. “He didn’t stop dancing the whole night. He had so much fun with his friends and with Christine. The vibe in the room was electric. Everybody was really happy and was really celebrating. He loved everything,” says the partygoer. “He got there at around 11 and stayed for hours. It was a really great night.”

Kanye West hosted an intimate concert for a crowd of 550 people at the Bowery in New York City last Tuesday night (Nov 23). The rapper was joined by Bon Iver, Teyana Taylor, Nicki Minaj, Swizz Beatz, CyHi da Prince, Pusha T, Rick Ross AND John Legend for the show, which was held to promote the release of Ye’s new album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

During the concert’s final set, Kanye took a little time out to address a few issues, including the ever popular Taylor Swift incident, George Bush, Matt Lauer, his album sales, rumors that he’s in the illuminati and more:

To do an album after the year I had ….after all the “Your career is over..die n*gga, die!…You’ll never make music again!” and then come back and do 100,000 the first day digitally alone….to be safe and do 600,000 in the tfirst week. I don’t talk about the numbers but what that number says is that people want me to keep making music…and for me not to give up. Pretty much since the rise of stars like Kanye West and John Legend, we have heard them make references to their label, G.O.O.D. Music… but is it a label or is it just a union of Hip-Hop/R&B artists?

Several artists are connected to Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music crew including John Legend, Common, Consequence, GLC, Kid Cudi and more. HiphopDX.com recently spoke to G.O.O.D. Music artist GLC and he explained each artist’s affiliation with the label:

“G.O.O.D Music isn’t a label for one; a lot of people have the misconception that G.O.O.D Music is a label but really it’s basically a family and like a production company. What they do is you get a distribution deal and if you’re a G.O.O.D Music artist, then you come out on G.O.O.D Music and the distribution deal. Whoever I decide to do my deal with it will be through G.O.O.D Music because I’m a G.O.O.D Music artist.”

Well there we have it. Unlike most labels ran by artists, G.O.O.D Music isn’t distributing but instead referring their artists to top distributors and assisting with production and promotion of their music. Sounds like a pretty G.O.O.D. deal to us!

Most of you probably saw Taylor Swift‘s recent performance with Stevie Nicks at this year’s Grammys (if not, peep it HERE) and you probably saw how mediocre and pitchy Taylor’s vocals were. Well since then, there has been a bunch of negative chatter about the terribly put together performance and now Taylor’s label boss Scott Borchetta, CEO of Big Machine Records has come to her defense:

“Maybe she’s not the best technical singer,” he began in comments to The Tennessean, “but she’s probably the best emotional singer because everybody else who gets up there and is technically perfect, people don’t seem to want more of it.”

He also went on to say this about her voice:

“I think (the critics) are missing the whole voice of a generation that is happening right in front of them,” he told the paper. “This is not ‘American Idol.’ This is not a competition of getting up and seeing who can sing the highest note. This is about a true artist and writer and communicator. It’s not about that technically perfect performance.”

Hmmm. It’s great to see Taylor Swift’s label boss coming to her defense like captain save a hoe but there’s really no excuse for Taylor’s awful performance. And she definitely deserve that “Album of the Year” Award. Just thought we’d throw that out there…

While singing Michael Jackson‘s hit song “The Way You Make Me Feel,” with John Legend, R&B legend Stevie Wonder became so overcome with emotion that he broke down and nearly cried right in the middle of a nationally televised live performance.

The emotional breakdown occurred on-stage at the Rock and Roll 25th Hall of Fame Anniversary Concert — which aired on HBO this weekend. Wonder was singing Jackson’s, “The Way You Make Me Feel” — when Stevie, still distraught by the death of his good friend, suddenly chokes up, hunches over and puts his face in his hands … while the music continues to play.It all goes down around 1:35 into the clip.

Stevie eventually pulls himself together and finished the song — and ultimately received a hug from John Legend and a huge ovation from the crowd.

R&B crooner John Legend and his model girlfriend of over 2 years Christine Teigen were picture perfect as they arrived on the red carpet of the 14th Annual National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund’s New York Gala at Cipriani 42nd Street Thursday evening (Nov 5).

John is in the middle of working on his fourth studio album, which he revealed is more soulful than his previous albums and will be completed by the end of he year and released by mid-2010.

“It’s soulful,” he tells The Boombox. “It’s a little more retro. It’s a collection of cover songs, so that’s part of the feel of it, taking us back. We still have a bit of work to do on it, but we’ll probably finish by the end of the year and put it out by the middle of next year.”
