Janet Jackson is among the latest batch of celebrities recently criticized by animal rights organization PETA for their association with fur.

Because of her partnership the with fur company Blackglama, the R&B/Pop star was named PETA’s “2011 Grinch of the Year” and is #1 on their “most animal un-friendly celebrities list,” which also included reality TV personality Kim Kardashian and filmmaker Cameron Crowe.

“When Janet Jackson had her infamous ‘wardrobe malfunction’ during the Super Bowl, at least the flesh that popped into view was her own,” writes PETA’s Jeff Mackey. “Unlike the stolen animal skins that she drapes herself with, which are as dead as her taste in fashion (not to mention her career). Ms. Jackson, you’re just plain nasty.”

Janet Jackson sat down with ABC’s “Good Morning America” for an interview that aired Thursday (Dec 15) where the 45-year-old entertainer announced that she is the new face and body of the popular Nutrisystem diet program.

Janet says her self and body image issues, which started when her brother (late Pop idol Michael Jackson) teased her about her weight when they were kids, inspired her to inspire others and become the face of Nutrisystem.

“It’s a matter of learning how to keep it off, that maintenance and they have a program for that,” Janet shared. “My success plan is to be healthy and feel good about me.”

In addition to the Nutrisystem announcement, Ms. Jackson also talked about her niece Paris Jackson, and what she thinks about her signing on for a role in the upcoming movie “Lundon’s Bridge and the Three Keys.”

“I’m happy for her because this is what she wants to do,” she said. “[But] I said, ‘You should really take this time to enjoy your youth to its fullest’ because you lose so much of your childhood in this industry.”

Jackson also discussed how she’s doing after he trial of Dr. Conrad Murray, the doctor who was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of her brother, Michael.

“It’s been a great deal of happiness and a great deal of sadness,” she said.

Rihanna has made Billboard history after her latest single “We Found Love” shot from No. 16 to No. 9 on the Hot 100 chart in its second week, making this her 20th Top 10 single, and beating Pop Queen Madonna as the fastest solo artist to reach 20 Top 10 Hot 100 singles.

Rihanna’s first single to enter Top 10 territory was “Pon De Replay” (which peaked at #2 in 2005).

It only took Rihanna 6 years and 4 months to reach 20 Top 10 singles, while it took Madonna 6 years and 9 months (just 5 months longer).

Among all acts, Rihanna’s run to 20 top 10s is the second-fastest. Only the Beatles sprinted to the sum more quickly, taking just two years, seven months and one week between their chart entrance with “I Want to Hold Your Hand” (Jan. 18, 1964) and “Yellow Submarine,” which sailed 52-8 the week of Aug. 27, 1966. The Supremes are pushed to third-place among all artists, having collected their 20 career top 10s in a span of six years, five months and one week in 1964-70.

Rihanna is the 14th artist to have 20 Hot 100 Top 10 singles and is just the fifth woman to earn the honor.

Madonna leads the pack of talented ladies with 37 Top 10s, the highest ever for ANY artist, followed by Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson (with 27 each), and Whitney Houston (23).

Is Janet Jackson getting married? That’s the question on everyone’s minds after the National Enquirer published a report suggesting that the R&B/Pop star is now engaged to her billionaire boyfriend Wissam Al Mana.

According to the National Enquirer’s story, Wissam, a Qatari businessman, recently popped the question, and now the happy couple is planning a wedding that will take place at the end of the year.

“Janet is head over heels in love with Wissam,” a close source said. “He’s showered her with love, expensive presents and boosted her self-esteem by helping her lose weight and shape up.”

Last fall, Wissam, with a 15 carat diamond ring in hand, reportedly asked Janet to marry him. However, the 45-year-old entertainer wasn’t ready to make the big leap just yet and turned it down, as she was focusing on preparations for a tour, which runs into September.

“Now Janet’s telling friends that an official engage­ment announcement will come by summer’s end, and that she and Wissam will marry in late 2011 – and they’re shopping for an even bigger diamond ring to celebrate their official engagement,” the source continued.

The source also revealed that Janet and Wissam are “anxious” to start a family ASAP, whether it be through natural childbirth or adoption, because at 45 years old, Janet’s chances at having her own child are getting slimmer and slimmer.

Janet Jackson was previously married to singer James DeBarge in 1984, but they annulled their union after only one year. Her next marriage — a secret one — was with dancer/video director Rene Elizondo, which lasted 9 years, ending in 2000.

Then she got into an 8-year relationship with rapper/producer Jermaine Dupri that never developed into marriage, and ended in 2009, which is the year she met her current boyfriend Wissam Al Mana.

“Janet says she’s finally found her knight in shining armor!” the source said, regarding Janet’s newest relationship.

Janet Jackson has announced the official dates for the North American leg of her upcoming “Janet Jackson Number Ones, Up Close and Personal” Tour!

Late last year, the R&B/Pop superstar announced that she will perform in 35 different cities chosen by fans to correspond with the 35 hit singles she’s acquired over the span of her career. Janet says that she will dedicate 1 hit single to each city on the tour, which will feature a set-list filled with ALL 35 of her #1 singles. The first city Janet Jackson will play is Singapore on February 7th, with concerts in Hong Kong, Taipei and Manila to follow.

The North American leg of the tour will kick-off March 4th in Houston and will hit Chicago, Toronto (Canada), New York City, Atlanta, Los Angeles and other cities before wrapping up with two concerts in Las Vegas on April 22nd and 23rd. In each city, Janet also plans on meeting 20 young leaders who are “changing their communities for the better,” according to the press release posted to her official website.

The legendary Icon took the suggestions of her fans to heart and after her start in Asia she will be bringing the tour to the United States and Canada. Janet says that she will dedicate a hit single to each city on the tour, which will feature a setlist filled with all 35 of Miss Jackson’s #1 singles!

In the issue, the “For Colored Girls” actress opens up about body image issues she had growing up, including getting colonics at 11 years old and having her body criticized by TV producers as a kid. On being told to lose weight by TV producers as a kid:
“When I did Good Times, they used to bind my chest because I was developing breasts at a young age… It immediately makes you think, ‘The way I am isn’t good enough.’ They thought I was too heavy and that I needed to lose weight. When I look back at the show, I was your average-size kid.”

On choosing between being an actress or a singer:
“I have more of a passion for acting than I do singing, because singing comes so much easier to me. Acting is more of a challenge. I always say to people, ‘I’m really in the wrong business because I don’t like being in front of huge crowds, and I don’t like it when a lot of people are looking at me.’”

On Hollywood’s weight obsession:
“People tend to put entertainers on pedestals. We’re human beings, just like you… whether we have money or not, we still have bills to pay, we still have our stresses.”

Singer Janet Jackson headlined the 2010 Essence Music Festival in Louisiana Friday night (Jul 2) with a 30-song set during the opening night of the annual concert event, held at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans. This marks first performance in 2 years and this is is also the first time Ms. Jackson is hitting the stage since her brother’s death last summer.

Actress/singer Janet Jackson was spotted Thursday (Jun 3) in Harlem, New York City as she filmed scenes for Tyler Perry‘s latest movie project, the film adaptation of “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf.” Also spotted in Harlem on the set of the new movie were Whoopi Goldberg and director Tyler Perry.

The movie will be written, directed and produced by Tyler Perry and features a cast that includes Loretta Divine, Kimberly Elise, Jill Scott, Kerry Washington, Anika Noni Rose and more. Mariah Carey had also been cast but pulled out at the last minute for “medical reasons.” Mr. Perry said actress Thandie Newton will replace her in the film, scheduled to be release sometime in 2011.

Last time I heard she really didn’t want to do an album. She wanted to just do singles every once in a while. She’s looked at the marketplace—albums are not really doing what they usually do when you put all this budget out there. Janet is just trying to figure out her landscape. But the crazy part is “Nothing” is the biggest format record that I’ve ever had. It’s playing on seven different formats: gospel, AC, urban AC, urban mainstream, jazz and top 40 and rhythmic. I never had a record on a jazz station. I’m out here in LA and the biggest jazz station out here, The Wave, you know, that station when you go to hotels and you don’t know what station the radio in your room is on? This record is on that station [laughs].

How is Janet holding up?
She’s cool. She has a lot of work going on that’s keeping her in the right direction. The movie came out, which is the biggest Tyler Perry movie he has had thus far. It looks like her star power as an actress is still there. And she’s about to do the other movie (For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf) with Mariah, Kerry Washington, Whoopi Goldberg and few others. They will be shooting that in June. And then she’s performing at the Essence Festival, so she’s rehearsing for that every day.

Dr. Conrad Murray‘s court hearing was rescheduled moments before it was set to take place in downtown L.A yesterday. The hearing was originally scheduled to be held Monday (Apr 5) but the judge postponed the hearing due to his affiliation with Attorney General Jerry Brown, who wants Murray to have his medical license revoked.

Judge Michael Pastor, in the interest of full disclosure, told lawyers for both sides he was appointed to the bench by Attorney General Jerry Brown back in 1983 when Brown was governor of California. Brown is the one who is gunning for Murray’s license. And, in the “small world” category, Judge Pastor revealed he wrote a letter of recommendation for prosecutor David Walgren, who is looking to become a judge.

Dr. Murray is under fire for allegedly killing Michael Jackson on June 25th 2009 when he administered lethal amounts of Propofol (an operating room anesthetic) to the King of Pop. He is being brought to trial on charges including involuntary manslaughter, and he is pleading not guilty. Prominent members of the Jackson family, who believe that he is indeed responsible for MJ’s death, showed up to the court-house together to attend the hearing, which was postponed to June 15th.

Singer/actress Janet Jackson opened up to Oprah Friday (Apr 2) about a lot of things, including losing her brother Michael Jackson, where she was when he passed away and how her family tried to (unsuccessfully) help him with his addiction issues. She says “We knew that he had a problem. We had tried interventions several times…” She also spoke on whether or not she blames Dr. Conrad Murray for MJ’s sudden death.

Grammy Award winning recording artist Janet Jackson has been announced as the headliner for the upcoming 2010 Essence Music Festival, due to be held this July in New Orleans, Louisiana. This will be Janet’s ONLY concert appearance of the year and her FIRST since 2008. This will also be her first major show since the death of her brother, the King of Pop, Michael Jackson and will coincidentally be held just 1 week after the 1-year anniversary.

Jackson–who has sold over 100 million records worldwide and is one of the best-selling artists of all time–joins Mary J. Blige and Alicia Keys on the all-star lineup. Jackson is scheduled to perform on July 2nd, the opening night of the festival. The announcement was made today in celebration of Jackson’s iTunes release of “Nothing,” the theme song she performs, co-wrote and co-produced for Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I Get Married Too?” opening nationwide April 2, 2010. Jackson’s appearance adds more star power to the 40th anniversary celebration of ESSENCE, the first magazine to grace Janet Jackson on its cover.

Here is a behind the scenes look at Janet Jackson‘s new music video for “Nothing,” which will be featured on the soundtrack of Janet’s new movie “Why Did I Get Married, Too?” due for release in theaters Friday (Apr 2). The video for the song, which was shot last week, will premiere sometime this week. Check out the behind the scenes sneak peak below!

Meanwhile, Janet recently revealed that “Nothing” is only a buzz single for “Why Did I Get Married, Too?” and is not the debut single for an upcoming album. In fact, the 43-year-old singer/actress says that she’s not even working on an album! Via Rolling Stone:

“There was a time where I was actually in the studio and I was recording, but I’m not working on an album,” she says. “There have been a lot of record labels that have asked me to sit down and talk with them, but I don’t know if I want to do something completely independent, or go with a major.” Discipline was Jackson’s first disc on Def Jam after she left her longtime label Virgin.

So what about the new songs? “Nothing” is a one-off she co-wrote and co-produced with Jermaine Dupri for the new Tyler Perry film Why Did I Get Married Too?, and the lyrics reflect the tensions and turmoil between characters, like Angela’s trust issues with Marcus (”You can even have the password to my phone”), as well as her own character Patricia’s guilt and regret over Gavin (”We should cherish every moment like it’s the last”). As for the second song, Jackson said she did it as a favor for Rodney Jerkins, for “fun.”

When Jackson does return to the studio, she’s not sure whether she’ll work toward a classic pop album (as “Nothing” might indicate) or do something more dance club-oriented (like “Heartbeat Love”): “I haven’t decided on exactly where I want to go or what I want to do.”

The great playwright and director himself Tyler Perry has reportedly rounded up the likes of Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey for a new film he’s working on, entitled “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf.”

The Madea Goes to Jail filmmaker took on the challenge of adapting Ntozake Shange‘s controversial 1975 play for the big screen last September (09) after Whoopi Goldberg’s planned Broadway revival fell victim to a lack of investors.  But Perry is forging ahead with the movie version of the play and will reunite with Jackson, who stars in his “Why Did I Get Married Too?” and Carey, who won critical acclaim for her role in “Precious.” He has also landed Goldberg for his project, in addition to The Last King of Scotland star Kerry Washington and singer Macy Gray.

Tyler himself also revealed that actresses Phylicia Rashad, Jurnee Smollett, Kimberly Elise, Kerry Washington and Loretta Divine will also appear in the film, which appears to be star-studded so far, just as the rest of TP’s movies have been.

R&B/pop legend Janet Jackson premiered her new single “Nothing” on the radio last week. The track is the theme song for her upcoming film “Why Did I Get Married Too?” and was produced by Bryan-Michael Cox and Jermaine Dupri. The single will be available for download on iTunes next Tuesday (Mar 30). Her upcoming 11th studio album is said to be due for a late 2010 release.

Meanwhile, it’s said that the music video will be shot sometime this week. Video director Christopher Yoon broke the news Saturday via his Twitter:

Kicking off her promotional tour for her new movie “Why Did I Get Married Too?”, singer/actress Janet Jackson appeared on NBC’s the Tonight Show with Jay Leno Thursday night (Mar 18). In the 8 minute interview (split up in 2 parts), Janet talks to Leno about her life, her new book “True You” about why her weight goes up down and more. She also touched a bit on a past experience when she was asked to lose weight as a child on “Good Times.”

In the second clip, Ms. Jackson talks more about the new movie and how her brother passing affected the emotion she had in certain scenes in the new film. They also show a sneak preview of a scene in the Tyler Perry directed movie.

Meanwhile, we hear that her new single “Nothing,” produced by Jermaine Dupri, will be featured on the “Why Did I Get Married Too?” soundtrack as well as her upcoming album. The track, co-produced by Bryan-Michael Cox, will be available for purchase on iTunes March 30th. Speaking on the track, JD was quoted as saying: “You haven’t heard Janet sound like this in a long time and I think the song is perfect for the movie. It’s a really good record.”

While the details of their personal, romantic relationship is unknown, Jermaine Dupri and Janet Jackson are teaming up with Bryan Michael Cox for JJ’s next album, the follow up to Discipline, released in 2008.

“I’m producing Janet’s album with Jermaine and it’s going to be hot,” B. Cox told Rap-Up.com at Tricky Stewart’s pre-Grammy party last Friday. “That’s all I can say so far.” His producing partner Kendrick “WyldCard” Dean also chimed in, adding, “Some great collabos on there,” but didn’t disclose further details.

Janet has been in the studio with Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins working on her 11th studio album, due this year on A&M Records.

During Sunday night’s 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, Michael Jackson‘s kids, Prince Michael and Paris accepted the Lifetime Achievement Awards on behalf of their late great father. This was the first time that the world got the chance to hear Prince Michael speak.

“We are proud to be here to accept this award on behalf of our father, Michael Jackson,” said Prince Michael. “First of all, we would like to thank God for watching over us these past seven months and our grandma and grandpa for their love and support. We’d also like to thank the fans. Our father loved you so much because you were always there for him. Our father was always concerned about the planet and humanity. He has helped through many charities and donated to all of them. Through all his songs, his message was simple: Love. We will continue to spread his message and help the world. Thank you.”

And apparently it won’t be the last. Maya Angelou wrote a poem for the re-make of “We Are the World” and one of the song’s leading producers Quincy Jones says he’s going to try and get Prince Michael and Paris to read it at the end of the Haiti tribute, titled “We Are the World 25 Years for Haiti.”

Quincy is saving perhaps the most touching moment for last. At the request of Katherine Jackson, Maya Angelou penned a poem to be read at the end of the song. Quincy is going to speak to Michael’s children about reading that narration.

The charity song’s co-producer Lionel Richie told MTV that the King of Pop’s little sister Janet Jackson will sing her brother’s part.

Co-producer Richie said that Janet Jackson would be laying down her version of Michael Jackson’s part on Tuesday, and he hinted that some other artists might also be added over the next few days.

Queen of Pop Janet Jackson made a young fan’s day when the “Make Me” singer signed Michael Jackson‘s book for her Sunday (Dec 6) at Mr. Chow’s restaurant in London. According to the photographers who snapped these shots, the 11-year-old girl had flown over 200 miles to see Janet, who was in the U.K. that weekend to perform on the hit UK series “X Factor.”

In an effort to promote her new album and pay tribute to her late brother Michael Jackson all at the same time, the Queen of Pop Janet Jackson opened up the 2009 American Music Awards in Los Angeles last night and performed a medley of some of her greatest hits, including her new single “Make Me” (check out the brand new music video here).

Looking fit and sexy in snug tan pants, top and boots, she performed a medley of her greatest hits, beginning with the 1986 chart topper “Control,” followed by “Miss You Much,” a popular tune from 1989. As Jackson grooved and shook her long hair to the celebrity-studded audience, which included members of her own famous family, the lyrics seemed to be directed at the King of Pop.

“I miss ya much (boy-oh-I miss you much),” she sang. “I really miss you much.” Jackson’s 7-plus-minute set included her suggestive tune, “If,” along with a sample of her new release “Make Me,” in which she invites an unseen listener to “make me groove, show me what you do, make me move.”

The 43-year-old pop star finished her act with a happy version of “Together Again” — another message to Michael. She looked to the sky as she sang, “Everywhere I go, every smile I see, I know you are there, smilin’ back at me.”

Janet’s new compilation album, titled Number Ones, is in stores now!
