After spending the past 16 days behind bars … Jalen Rose is a free man!

According to TMZ, Former NBA star Jalen Rose was released from a Detroit jail this morning — after spending 16 days behind bars stemming from a DUI arrest back in March.

Rose — who currently works for ESPN as an NBA analyst — was originally sentenced to 20 days in the slammer … after pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated during a March 11 crash.

TMZ broke the story … the 38-year-old ex-Fab Fiver was driving along an icy roadway in Michigan with a female passenger when he lost control of his vehicle, flipping the car.

After the judge basically threw the book at Rose — Jalen’s lawyer called the sentence “outrageous” … and an “abuse of discretion.”

Jalen Rose began his 20-day jail sentence for DUI this morning. He checked into Oakland County jail outside Detroit at around 8 am.

He doesn’t look too pleased though … but who could blame him?!?

According to TMZ:

Jalen Rose was just sentenced to serve 20 days in jail — four months after he crashed his car into a ditch during an alleged drunk driving incident in Michigan back in March.

The 38-year-old ex-Fab Fiver was driving along an icy roadway with a female passenger on March 11 when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed, flipping the car.

When cops arrived, Rose agreed to undergo several roadside sobriety tests — and was eventually arrested for DUI.

Along with the jail time, Rose was also sentenced to 1 year of probation.

So far, no word on when Rose is set to serve his time.

This some ole bullshit…

As it turns out, Rose crashed his car in Michigan on March 11th while he was over the legal drinking limit.

When cops arrived on the scene, he was arrested for driving under the influence, and as a result his employers over at ESPN had yanked him off the air indefinitely.

Here’s a statement from ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz via USA Today:

“Jalen has accepted full responsibility for his actions. Both parties are taking this very seriously, and as a result, we’ve agreed that he will not be on our air while he addresses this situation.”

Jalen made a bad decision to drive that night, but he made a worse decision by not telling ESPN. They’re ESPN! They were going to find out one way or another sooner or later.

Speaking on the situation, Rose had this to say:

“I regret the decision to drive home that evening and am grateful that no one was hurt in the accident,” Rose said. “I apologize to my family, my employer and each and every one of my supporters for my lapse in judgment. I am particularly sorry for disappointing those who trust me to serve as a role model for young people.” -Source

Former NBA star Jalen Rose was arrested earlier this month in Michigan for driving under the influence…

The 38-year-old NBA star was driving along an icy roadway on March 11 when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed.

Cops were called to the scene and Rose agreed to undergo several voluntary roadside sobriety tests. He was later transported to a nearby facility for chemical testing … those results have not yet been returned. Rose was eventually arrested for driving under the influence.

We’re told Rose was in his hometown of Detroit in preparation for the opening of the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy … a charter school designed to provide under-privileged youth with college prep experience.

TMZ spoke with Rose’s L.A.-based attorney, Keith Davidson, who told us, “We look forward to working with the authorities in Michigan and addressing these matters in court, not in the press. We have no comment at this time.”

Liquor and icy roads just aren’t the best combination. Hopefully, the next time he will reconsider the consequences of his actions before making them…

Lots of celebrities participated Friday night (Feb 18) in the annual Celebrity All-Star Game. The all-star line-up included Trey Songz, Rob Kardashian, Romeo Miller, Rick Fox and others repping for the West; and Nick Cannon, Common, Scottie Pippen and more representing for the East Coast.

In the end, the East came out victorious (54-49) with Justin Bieber (from the West) scoring the coveted MVP trophy (as voted by the fans). Also spotted at the 2011 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game were Magic Johnson, Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom.
