Today, Ja Rule begins his 2-year prison sentence on a 4-year-old gun charge to which he pleaded guilty to late last year. “My last day out,” he Tweeted yesterday afternoon, adding that he was spending time with his family at the movies.

During a routine traffic stop in July 2007, police say they found a loaded .40-caliber semi-automatic gun in the rapper’s $250,000-plus Maybach sports car, which they’d said they’d stopped for speeding as he left a concert in Manhattan at the Beacon Theatre. Lil Wayne was arrested separately on similar charges after headlining the same show, and later pleaded guilty, spending around eight months in jail last year.

“Laws are laws,” Ja Rule said Monday on Good Day New York, speaking on the incident, which ironically happened right after Wayne’s run-in with the cops. “There’s nothing I could really do but own up to the situation. You know, I try not to regret anything I do in life, because you go through life and you do things, and you man up to them. You own them,” he added.

Ja Rule, who had been recently preparing for the release of his new album, recently told TMZ that he plans to keep himself busy during his 2-year stay in a New York prison (most likely Rikers — the same place Wayne served his sentence) by writing a book, getting his GED and possibly learning how to play the guitar.

Fortunately, under state prison policies, the rapper/actor (who is leaving behind a wife and three children as he goes off to jail) might be able to get his sentence reduced by up to 6 months for good behavior.

Platinum selling rapper 50 Cent recently reacted to Ja Rule’s guilty plea for failing to file federal taxes by taunting his long time nemesis financial woes. Shortly after learning about Rule’s tax woes, 50 Cent did what he does bet. He took to Twitter to poke fun of the former Murder Inc rapper.

“D*mn you don’t want to pay taxes fool. Take 3 more years hahaha. Oh sh*t I’m crying LMAO,” 50 tweeted Wednesday (March 23).

Then he ReTweeted some messages from his followers:

Ja Rule’s attorney confirmed Rule’s recent tax problems yesterday (March 23) .

“He’s been working on addressing these issues for some time,” his attorney, Stacy Richmond, said after the hearing. “He’s taking full responsibility. He voluntarily walked in here, he wasn’t arrested.”

Once again…….50 wins.

Looks like there are more “rainy days” ahead for Ja Rule.

The  35 year old embattled rapper, who is currently scheduled to begin serving a two-year sentence in June,  pleaded guilty earlier this week to federal tax evasion in New Jersey, admitting that he failed to pay taxes on more than $3 million dollars earned between 2004 and 2006.

Under the terms of the plea, Rule had two additional counts for unpaid taxes from 2007 and 2008 against him dismissed. He will be sentenced on his tax evasion charges in June.

Unfortunately, that same month, the former Murder Inc. MC will begin his two-year stint in jail after pleading guilty to attempted weapon possession. The sentence stems from an arrest  made back in 2007 after police discovered a loaded gun in his car following a performance with Lil Wayne at NYC’s Beacon Theatre. Ironically, Lil Wayne was arrested for the same thing on the same night, and has already served his prison sentence.

Ja has stated that he will spend his remaining free months finishing his next album The Renaissance Project.

Rapper Ja Rule just got 3 more months of freedom.

In 2007, Ja, born Jeffrey Atkins, plead guilty to a gun possession charge and received a 2-year prison sentence. According to reports, Rule’s sentence was granted a delay so that he could finish working on a few projects he has in the pipeline, which include a new album and reality TV show.

Speaking to the NY Post, the “Put It On Me” rapper’s lawyer Stacy Richman confirmed:

“We want to finish the album, and there’s also a tax issue. Somebody, an accountant, had filed an incorrect form, and this is to correct what was done in the past.”

Talking about his upcoming reality show, the rapper said:

“My reality show, I like it because it’s showing a strong black family going through a tough time. And how we band together as a family and how my wife and kids, my moms and her moms, bond together during this tough time when I have to go in.”

Ja Rule is due to surrender on June 8th to start his sentence.

First, he pleaded guilty to a 2007 weapons charge and was sentenced to 2 years and prison. Then, he got into a little Twitter argument with fellow rapper 50 Cent (who couldn’t resist cracking a few jokes about Ja Rule’s situation). And now, Ja Rule’s Twitter has been hacked!

Fif took to his Twitter yesterday after hearing about Ja Rule’s plea deal and 2-year jail sentence…and of course had some not-so-friendly words to say.

“Damn da homie jah rule gotta do 2 years. Tell him I said don’t worry I got him when he come home. Lol. Yo word to my mother if anybody knock jah out and f**k him in jail its gonna be on. Lol. Yal know I’m crazy as f**’k so don’t mess with my little homie jah. Lol. I’m well connected, I’m a say it again. I’m well connected don’t f**k with my little homie jah.”

Ja quickly responded back:

“@50cent Nigga u P*SSY shut up before I smack u in yo mouth again lol. The nerve of some n*ggas!!!”

50 then tried to play the innocent role:

“You see I was just trying to look out the homie now he mad at me why? I don’t wish jail on nobody stay strong you little punk. Lol.”

We thought this nonsense was over…SMH.

Ja Rule is headed to prison!

The Grammy nominated rapper, who was arrested after a concert more than 3 years ago, pleaded guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon today in a Manhattan courtroom. Rule faced a 4-year prison sentence under New York’s tough anti-gun laws, but thanks to a plea deal, he will only have to serve two years after he is officially sentenced in February.

“Because of your guilty plea here today, you’ll have a record of having committed a violent felony. This is a very serious matter,” Manhattan state Supreme Court Justice Richard Carruthers told him Monday.

“This isn’t a good day,” Ja Rule said as he headed to a waiting SUV, waving to some fans who recognized him behind his dark sunglasses. His lawyer, Stacey Richman, declined to comment. (Source)

Ironically, Lil Wayne was arrested (separately) on gun charges the same July 2007 night Ja Rule (real name: Jeffrey Atkins) was arrested. Wayne, who invited Rule to a show as his surprise guest earlier that night, later pleaded guilty to the very same charge. Wayne was released from prison last month after completing 8 months of his year-long prison sentence.

And now, yet ANOTHER rapper is off to jail…

Rapper Ja Rule stopped for a few pictures while on location for his new music video for “Father Forgive Me” at the Unite Presbyterian Church Wednesday (Oct 14) in Ridgewood, NY.

He and fellow rapper DMX made headlines in late September when the two reconciled and squashed their beef at VH1′S Hip Hop Honors

Offstage, Ja Rule and DMX had their own reunion. The two came up together as close friends and later turned to bitter enemies, even dissing each other on records. As X was walking out, Ja was returning to his seat, and the pair saw each other, hugged and talked for a few moments.

Ashanti sure is looking good these days! It’s hard to believe Nelly let all of that go. She and Ja Rule reunited on stage at the 2009 VH1 Hip Hop Honors Wednesday night (Sep 23), which saw performances from Wale, Kid Rock, Method Man & Redman, Eminem and more. The ceremony honored the pioneers of Def Jam along with the people, past and present, who helped create the label and build it into what it is today. Hosted by comedian Tracy Morgan, the show is set to make its television debut only on VH1 on Tuesday, October 13th at 9 pm.

It’s only right that the first Def Jam artist to be honored was the label’s foundation and face for so many years, LL Cool J. The Roots started it off with “Rock the Bells.” Black Thought ripped the first verse of the record, then gave way for a special guest: Eminem. Last year, Slim Shady publicly expressed his love for LL during a phone prank on DJ Tony Touch’s Shade 45 radio show. Spitting the second verse of “Rock the Bells” on Wednesday night, Em sounded almost exactly like the legend who inspired him. “Now I’m worldwide known/ Whether you like it or not/ My one-man band is Cut Creator…/ When he’s on the fader/ What’s my DJ’s name?” “Cut Creator!” The crowd yelled. Later, Kid Rock paid tribute to LL with “I’m Bad.” The Kid also DJed during the show, as did Ed Lover.

The second performance was from one of Def Jam’s signature groups, Public Enemy. Chuck D was immediately electrifying with the opening words for “Rebel Without a Pause”: “Yes, the rhythm, the rebel.” Chuck still has one of the most recognizable and commanding voices in all of music, not just rap. Flavor Flav came out wearing a white tuxedo jacket, matching top hat and a black bow tie. PE arguably had the performance of the night with help from the Roots, S1W and Boots Riley. The Long Island-bred rap chiefs were just born for the stage. The entire crowd was on their feet cheering. After their performance, Flav was seen talking to Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan in the audience.

Another bricklaying squad for the house that Russell and Rick built was, undoubtedly, the Beastie Boys. KRS-One, Wale and the Gym Class Heroes did a rocking rendition of “No Sleep Till Brooklyn.” Travis McCoy, who wore a black T-shirt with the names “DJ AM” and “Roc Raida” in the shape of the Run-DMC logo, took on the first verse. The Blastmaster, who is a former HHH honoree himself, took verse two and ended by saying, “Adam, get well soon,” referring to Adam Yauch, who is currently battling cancer. Wale finished off the song and later paid tribute to Kanye West, wearing a backpack and rapping “Touch the Sky.”

When Onyx performed “Slam” it felt like the group had stepped out of a time capsule: They looked almost exactly the same and still had that insane energy that made them famous. During his verse, Sticky Fingaz climbed on top of a large speaker. Rather than climb down when he finished, Stick climbed into the balcony. Other performers included Rick Ross, Fabolous, Foxy Brown, Redman, Method Man, Mary J. Blige, EPMD, Ghostface Killah, Chrissette Michele, Warren G, Trey Songz, the reunion of Ashanti and Ja Rule, Ludacris and DMX — many of whom teamed up with the Roots for a show-closing medley of Def Jam hits.
