Here are the official nominees for the upcoming 2012 People’s Choice Awards, which will be held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on January 11th 2012 and will air live on CBS.

Leading the pack of nominees is “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2,” the final installment in the insanely popular movie series, with nods in 5 different categories, including Favorite Ensemble Movie Cast, Book Adaptation, Action Movie and more.

Other films nominated for PCAs include “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” “Fast Five,” “X-Men First Classj,” “the Hangover Part II” and more.

As far as the celebrities (actors, actresses, musicians, etc.) are concerned, folks like Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Adele, Eminem, Jay-Z, Bruno Mars, Chris Brown, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Daniel Radcliffe (“Harry Potter”), Robert Pattinson (“Twilight”), George Clooney, Morgan Freeman, Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and many others are also up for awards..

The People’s Choice Awards, now in its 38th year, celebrates the biggest and brightest in the categories of music, movies, television, books and everything in between.

The latest “Harry Potter” movie made so much money last weekend … that it beat the opening weekend numbers for the Batman blockbuster “The Dark Knight,” which had previously held the record of best opening weekend EVER!

In 2008, “The Dark Knight” earned $158.4 million its opening weekend. And this past weekend, Warner Bros. estimated that “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2″ raked in $168.6 million domestically from Friday to Sunday.

“This will be the biggest `Harry Potter’ by far,” said Dan Fellman, head of domestic distribution at Warner Bros. “A billion dollars is definitely going to happen.”

The current franchise high is $974.8 million worldwide for the first film, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” 10 years ago.

“Deathly Hallows: Part 2″ does have the advantage of 3-D screenings, which cost a few dollars more than 2-D shows. Because of the higher 3-D price, plus regular inflation, “Deathly Hallows: Part 2″ sold fewer tickets than “The Dark Knight” over opening weekend.

The “Harry Potter” finale also set a record for best opening day domestically Friday with $92.1 million, nearly $20 million ahead of the previous high for “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” two years ago.

Other records for “Deathly Hallows: Part 2: best domestic gross for debut midnight shows at $43.5 million, topping the $30 million for last year’s “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”; best domestic opening in huge-screen IMAX theaters with $15.5 million, surpassing the $12.2 million for last year’s “Alice in Wonderland”; and best worldwide IMAX debut with $23.5 million, beating the $20.4 million for “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” two weeks ago.

Paramount’s third “Transformers” blockbuster, which had been No. 1 the previous two weekends, slipped to second-place with $21.3 million domestically. It remains the year’s top domestic hit with $302.8 million.

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2″ hits theaters about a month from now on July 15th.

The bitter sweet end is nigh for all you Harry Potter fans out there.

The  movie trailer of the last, and final installment for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2″ has been released, giving fans a sneak peek of what is to come. Although much is not given away we see Harry come face to face with his arch nemesis Lord Voldemort. Fans will also get a chance to see film favorites Molly Weasley and Tonks in the movie.

The movie is due for release on June 7th. Watch the trailer below!

The first 36 minutes of the new Harry Potter movie, titled “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” leaked online just one day after the two-part film premiered in New York City, prompting Warner Bros. to issue the following statement:

“Last night a portion of ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows—Part 1′ was stolen and illegally posted on the internet. This constitutes a serious breach of copyright violation and theft of Warner Bros. property. We are working actively to restrict and/or remove copies that may be available. Also, we are vigorously investigating this matter and will prosecute those involved to the full extent of the law.”

But how on earth did someone manage to “steal” almost 40 minutes of a major motion picture? That’s the question on everyone’s minds, and it has led folks to believe that Warner Bros. actually leaked the movie themselves to generate a bit of publicity (which would in turn help movie sales, of course).

The film hits theaters  WORLDwide tomorrow (Thurs. Nov 18) and will probably be the #1 movie this weekend. But what do you think? Did Warner Bros. “leak” the movie themselves to help boost movie sells for the weekend?

Many stars came out in support of the “Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows, Part 1” premiere in New York City on Monday (Nov 15). We think it’s safe to say that the HP mania has taken off again!

While some came in solo, others like Sarah Jessica Parker and Joey Fatone (formerly of *N Sync) took their children to see the long awaited part one of two films for the final chapter of the hit movie series.  Lourdes Leon, known for her clothing brand with mom Madonna, was also in attendance as well as Keri Russell, Melissa Joan Hart, Gaboury Sibide and Viola Davis.

The male stars of the movie Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Tom Felton and Ralph Fiennes were all suited up and dapper on the black carpet, while Hermione (Emma Watson) looked absolutely gorgeous in a simple, long, sleek black dress.

If Harry Potter were a real, living, breathing wizard, he would be turning 30 years old today!

According to the books, penned by British author J.K. Rowling, Potter was born on July 31st 1980, which just so happens to be Rowling’s birthday as well (except for the year, she was born in 1965).

Meanwhile, Daniel Radcliffe, the actor who plays Harry Potter in the popular films, celebrated his 21st birthday on July 23rd. And according to various online reports, he and his friends partied in St. Petersburg, Russia before heading back to London Thursday (Jul 29) to continue the celebration. Radcliffe told E! Online:

“It was fantastic. I was in St. Petersburg for my birthday, which is probably the most beautiful, the most incredible, wonderful place I’ve ever been in my life.”

“Deathly Hallows,” the last and final installment in the Harry Potter movie series has been split into two separate movies. The first is scheduled to be released in November and the second one is due out in 2011. Both films are going to be in 3D.

It looks like the “Harry Potter” fever is finally about to begin.

The first official trailer for the final installment in the franchise has premiered. While other clips have been released, this trailer is set to be played in front of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”, which hits theaters Wednesday (Jun 30), and has footage from both part 1 and part 2 of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”.

We’re not gonna front, this trailer looks pretty sick. It just sucks we’re gonna have to wait a year to see the final battle scene. Damn you two part saga!

Harry Potter fans are really in for a treat now! Universal Orlando‘s Islands of Adventure has introduced a new addition to their family fun park, “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.” The mini park, which has been 5 years in the making, is dedicated to the novel based series and includes everything from rides on the Hogwarts Express to frozen Butterbeer. So far Harry’s world has two roller coasters and a number of other visual experiences and shops in an effort to bring the adventures of Harry Potter to life. In a recent interview, Daniel Radcliffe(who plays Harry Potter in the film series) discussed his joy for the new mini-park.

“I remember when I was shooting the films when I was younger and I absolutely wished this world could be real and that I could be a part of it. It’s amazing that people will finally get to do that and realize everything they’ve seen on screen.”

This should be a sight to see!!

It has been less than 36 hours since the newest installment from the billion dollar Harry Potter franchise hit theaters and it is already breaking records. It is even being reported that by the end of the month, it will surpass Bond as the number one movie franchise. It’s no doubt that these movies are brilliantly made…but is the hype for “Half-Blood Prince” over the top?

The first five Harry Potter films have had the feeling that there is something bigger to come and that a final battle is somewhere in the near future, waiting to happen. “Prince” isn’t any different. Lord Voldemort is back and his henchmen of Death Eaters are acting as terrorists, attacking both Wizards and Muggles alike. Starting the film with the destruction of the Millennium Bridge sets a sudden mood over the audience and makes it clear that the Wizarding World is at war. Harry returns to the school to find that headmaster Albus Dumbledore has a new task for him. A task that, if accomplished, will bring Voldemort one-step closer to his downfall. Traveling through a series of memories, Harry and Dumbledore step into the past to get a better glimpse at the boy Voldemort, also known as Tom Riddle.

The subplot of the movie lies in a tattered old potions book that Harry inherits. The book, once property to the “Half-Blood Prince,” assists Harry with his class while offering him some education in the dark arts. Or at least…that’s what one is supposed to understand. Unfortunately, the film does not explore the significance of the potions book like the novel does. But you’d think they would, seeing as it is the title of the movie itself.

But bubbling even more than the potion Hermione fails to conjure up are the rapid hormones. Harry suddenly finds himself interested in Ginny Weasley, who has a boyfriend. Hermione and Ron grow closer but the latter gets a girlfriend/stalker once he becomes the star of the Quidditch team, causing various amounts of crying and jealousy on Hermione’s part. Meanwhile, Draco’s personal mission from the Dark Lord keeps him out of the romance loop and focused on what he must do: kill a certain someone (no, surprisingly it’s not Harry).

This Potter film stands as an outcast from the rest. While the previous five have all been action packed with a hint of romance on comedy, this one falls directly under the Romantic Comedy category. And when the second hour strolls along, you’re left wondering what the point of the movie really is. Is it to figure out who the Half-Blood Prince is? Or is it to find the ways to destroy the Dark Lord? Rowling’s novel reads both, but unfortunately, the film doesn’t.

The story feels rushed and choppy and doesn’t allow for the audience to pause for a second to think before presenting them with a new dilemma, or in most cases, more “snogging.” And by the time the plot returns, you will have forgotten about the “half-blood prince,” only to be reminded again in a very anti-climatic scene.

This is also the first Potter film where there is less thinking required. You forget that there is a war and are left to focus more on why Ginny is taller than Harry in the awkward kissing scene they share.

The climax of the film is amazing and is clearly the film’s shining moment. The acting is well done and the musical score sets the right tone. But when the moment the audience has been waiting for comes, they are once again left disappointed to find that screenwriter Steve Kloves has omitted the battle scene that takes place at Hogwarts. Instead, a rather pathetic chase down happens, a couple of very anti-climatic lines are said, and…all is done.

Though the film does hold true to what director David Yates calls it: a Romantic Comedy, avid readers of the books will leave feeling a bit empty. Having read the books a few times each myself, I know Half-Blood Prince is possibly the darkest of them. Unfortunately, the major plot points were either rushed or entirely removed to pay more respect to the hormones of the characters. I honestly wonder how Kloves will be able to tie this into the next installment with so much missing! Many scenes are often contrived, leaving you feeling underwhelmed.

On the brighter side, the acting of the cast has improved and the new additions have fit in very nicely. This is a thoroughly enjoyable film but without much intellect necessary. Personally, I absolutely love the books and understand that they are not and cannot be the movies. Nevertheless, Half-Blood Prince fell short of my grand expectations.
