The Black Eyed Peas attended the launch party for Jeepney Music, a new record label launched by BEP member Apl.de.ap, at the Ecco Lounge in West Hollywood.

“The Los Angeles-based record label is founded on the principle of giving back, to both Apl.de.Ap’s homeland of the Philippines and the global community,” the singer’s representatives said in a news release. “Jeepney Music will feature not only emerging recording artists, but will also highlight the growing number of disc jockeys and collaborative artists as he continues to build his label on the forefront of the digital transformation of music.”

All unsigned artists in the Los Angeles area were given the opportunity to drop off their music demos at the event between the hours of 10 PM and 12 AM.

Rapper Kid Cudi and actress Tamala Jones were also spotted at the event.

The 2009 Teen Choice Awards went down Sunday (Aug 9) at the Gibson Amphitheater in Los Angeles and celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Keke Palmer, Britney Spears, Marlon Wayans, Black Eyed Peas and lots more made appearances and/or performed at the show.

The most talked about happenings on the red carpet were Kim Kardashian’s new hairstyle and comedian/TV personality Kathy Griffin going to the show with Levi Johnston, Sara Palin’s daughter’s (Bristol) ex-boyfriend/baby daddy.

Usher performing “In This Club” as the opener for the 2008 BET Awards, which aired last night live from Los Angeles.

The 2008 BET Awards went down last night, and while there were a few lackluster performances (Usher’s being one of them), there were a few memorable, surprising, and exciting moments. One being Alicia Keys’ performance when she brought out SWV, En Vogue, and TLC! Another notable performance of the evening was Ne-Yo’s, where he showed us he can hang with the big dogs when it comes to his dance moves – he even brought out the Jabbawockees (winners of MTV’s America’s Dance Crew). Chris Brown did his thing as well, and surprised everyone when he brought out Ciara. Did Rihanna approve of this beforehand? I’m curious to know. And speaking of Rihanna, did anyone else notice how far she’s come along, as far as her live vocals? I was really impressed when she performed Take A Bow! And last, but most certainly not least, on my list of the best performances of the night, Lil’ Wayne! He kind of scared me towards the end of the show because it seemed like he wasn’t going to come out. The show was already running 15 or 20 minutes over when he was introduced. But he did come out, and he showed us exactly how and why he has sold nearly 1,500,000 copies of Tha Carter: III so far! He started out with Got Money (feat. T-Pain), paid homage to Static Major (R.I.P.) with Lollipop, and ended off his performance with A Millie. He had the whole crowd hyped, and ended off the show perfectly.

While the 2008 BET Awards did have its good moments, much of the show left me with a bitter taste in my mouth. I expected a lot more from Usher. His performance was probably the most hyped up (pre-show), and ended up being one of the absolute worst of the night. While I love Keyshia Cole’s Heaven Sent, she really needs to work on her live vocals … and her stage presence. She had a lot of energy, she just didn’t know how to keep it all together. She looked like she was doing too much to me.

In my opinion, the 2007 BET Awards were much better. The performances, the overall show, and oh yeah … the host! Who the hell approved of D.L. Hughley being the host of this year’s show? I hope they received a pink slip in their box this morning. BRING MO’NIQUE BACK!!!

The Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art held it’s annual gala last night to celebrate the opening of the new show “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy” which runs from May 7 to September 1, 2008. Singers Janet Jackson, Beyonce and Mary J. Blige walked the red carpet alongside actresses like Thadie Newton and Paula Patton and all looked fabulous even though most of the dresses worn at the event last night were surprisingly low-key and safe considering the theme. (J Records), which is in stores now – I highly recommend you buy this album! I think the single is gold, really every song from that album I find single-material. The song is really subtle with melodies and harmonies, it’s “whip-listenable,” as well as pleasurable, in my opinion.

Chris Brown ft. Will.i.am » “Picture Perfect” » LISTEN » (Full) » “Picture Perfect” featuring domestic-producer Will.i.am will be Chris Brown’s forth single from Exclusive (Jive). It’s interesting they’re making this a single; Chris Brown co-produced it. “PP” took me a minute to get into, it wasn’t my immediate favorite when I first heard Exclusive, but I’m feeling it now! I can’t wait to see how this plays out, with the promotion, video, etc.

Fergie » “Finally” » LISTEN » (Full) » “Finally” will be the final single from Fergie’s 3x’s platinum-album The Dutchess (A&M). The song itself was produced by John Legend, he was the pianist, and also Fergie stated that she would be performing with him at the 50th Grammy Awards. I liked this song a lot listening to Fergie’s album, the song was a nice ballad for her, it really showed her vocal capability nice.

Kanye West ft. Chris Martin » “Homecoming” » LISTEN » (Full) » “Homecoming,” featuring Cold Play’s Chris Martin, will be the fifth single from Kanye West’s 2x’s platinum-album Graduation (Def Jam). Unfortunately the song will only be released in the UK, instead of “Flashing Lights,” which is serving as the fourth single in the rest of the world. I said it once, and I’ll say it again, you UKer’s get everything! Lol. But for real, I really like this song, “Homecoming” has to be the most creative, conceptual song I’ve heard, as far as personification, this great man – is genius!

Janet Jackson » “Feedback” » LISTEN » (Full) » I’m sure you all remember me posting about Janet Jackson’s forthcoming single not too long ago (in April). Here is her brand new song “Feedback,” produced by Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins, it will be the first single lifted from Janet Jackson’s 10th studio album, appropriately entitled, Discipline (Island Def Jam). The singer’s new LP is due out February 26th of next year.

Timbaland ft. Keri Hilson + Nicole Scherzinger » “Scream” » LISTEN » (Full) » “Scream” is set to be the forth single lifted from Timbaland’s Shock Value (Interscope). The heavy string/tambourine sounding single features co-production by Danja and a guest appearance by Keri Hilson and light background vocals from Nicole Scherzinger. I really wasn’t all into this song that much at first but it’s getting there!

Fergie ft. Soulja Boy » “Clumsy (Collipark Remix)” » LISTEN » (Full) » Yelp, you read right. Collipark decided to make a remix to Fergie’s song “Clumsy” and decided to throw Soulja Boy in the mix! I like the original of “Clumsy” so much that any remix wouldn’t do me, not even Soulja Boy swayed me, sorry.

Chingy ft. Ludacris + Bobby Valentino » “Gimme Dat (Explicit)” » LISTEN » (Full) » “Gimme Dat” is slated to be Chingy’s second single from his forth studio album Hate It Or Love It (Def Jam/DTP). The single features stellar production by Full Scale and guest appearances by Ludacris and Bobby Valentino (vocals). The bass did it for me, this is my cut! Very nice single choice. Hmm, I wonder if Chingy reads blogs becos he has definitely stepped his game up this time around I’d say!

So the 2007 Movies Rock! show went down last night (December 7th): a night of movies, fashion and music! Performances include Chris Brown, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige and John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Will.I.Am, Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J and Eve! It looked fun, I’d say my favorite performance would have to be Fergie Ferg with “Live and Let Die” (Guns N’ Roses), she did an amazing job and did that song much justice. Ooh, I also love Usher’s performance of Gene Kelly’s “Singing in the Rain” – great show! Really they ALL did a fantastic job, I’m so proud of everyone! I’m mad I missed it y’all! The 2007 American Music Awards went down last night at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. The show was telecast live on CBS and featured performances from Fergie, Chris Brown, Beyonce (and Sugarland), Rihanna & Ne-Yo, and more. Winners included Justin Timberlake, T.I., Akon, Rihanna, and Beyonce, who won the most prestigious honor of the night! Beyonce took home the “International Star of the Year” award, an honor only previously given to Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, and Rod Stewart. This makes her the first female to ever win that award, which was presented by Usher (who fumbled through 95% of it I might add lol — what’s on his mind??). Jordin Sparks feat. Chris Brown » “No Air” » LISTEN » (Full) » This is a new “rumored” single, “No Air,” featuring Chris Brown from American Idol’s own, Jordin Sparks. This is definitely a solid single, courtesy of The Underdogs, the only con I have is she oversings a tad towards the latter. Other than that I think this is a stellar pop ballad that is sure to top the charts almost effortlessly.

Usher feat. Ludacris » “Dat Girl” » LISTEN » (Full) » New material from Usher, say what? Yep, this is said to be a Rich Harrison production. The moment I heard this, I went into several mild seizures. Then it grew on me, tentatively, it’s different. My music tastes are a little weird, I know, but this may be that hit factor Usher needs. Some might disagree (or jump me), yeah, but just imagine if this came on in the club! I’m telling you, let it marinate, it will grow on you too… Look how dangerously big “Yeah” was.

M.I.A> » “Paper Planes” » LISTEN » (Full) » “Paper Planes” is said to be UK rapper M.I.A.’s next single from the critically proclaimed album Kala. Finally, I’m overzealous about how the video might turn out. “Paper Planes” is possibly one of my most songs off of the album Kala.

Fergie feat. Will.i.am » “Pick It Up” » LISTEN » (Full) » “Pick It Up” is a new track, featuring producer Will.i.am, that can be found on the Japan re-release of Fergie’s certified double platinum-selling album, The Dutchess. Ooh, I like this! Nice, mellow, guitar driven ballad. Will.i.am was also a nice touch to “Pick It Up,” as he always is.

Here is the video premiere of Fergie’s new single, “Clumsy” directed by Marc Webb and Rich Lee, from her platinum selling debut The Dutchess. This will mark Fergie’s fifth single from The Dutchess. The song samples from Little Richard’s “The Girl Can’t Help It”, hence the “can’t help it” part. It’s alright, the video is very creative.
