Essence Atkins Gives Birth to Baby Boy On Christmas Day

Essence Atkins got the best Christmas gift a mother could get……a healthy, newborn baby boy!

The “Are We There Yet?” actress gave birth on her exact due date, which was Sunday, December 25th.

She took to her Twitter account to share the wonderful news with her fans, tweeting, “…our 1st baby, a beautiful healthy boy, was born on Christmas Day!”

Essence and her husband Jaime Mendez reportedly named their newborn son Varro, which means “durable and strong.”

Varro is the first child for the couple, who married in September 2009 after meeting on Match.com.

Congrats to Essence and her husband on their new bundle of joy!

Will Smith & Wife Jada Pinkett Smith Attend the Turner Entertainment Upfront Presentation in New York City

Actor Will Smith and his wife actress Jada Pinkett Smith attended the TNT/TBS Upfront Presentation at Hammerstein Ballroom Wednesday (May 19) in New York City.

Other celebs, including Essence Atkins, Terry Crews, Ice Cube, Regina King, George Lopez and Conan O’Brien, were also spotted the Turner Entertainment Upfront presentation.

Ice Cube Lands Sitcom Deal to Bring “Are We There Yet?” to TBS in June!

Looks like Ice Cube is following in the footsteps of Tyler Perry and has managed to lock down a deal to bring a sitcom version of his hit movie franchise, “Are We There Yet?” to TBS!

The new sitcom will debut on June 2nd and it is starring Terry Crews (“Everybody Hates Chris”) and Essence Atkins (“Half and Half” and “Smart Guy”) as Nick and Suzanne, a newly married couple who takes on the task of raising two teenage children in their untraditional family. Other notables in the new TBS sitcom include Thelma Hopkins (“Half and Half,” “Family Matters,” etc.) as Nick’s mother and Keesha Sharp (“Girlfriends,” “Everybody Hates Chris,” etc.) as Suzanne’s BFF. In addition to this, the new sitcom features reoccurring appearances from Ice Cube (as Suzanne’s brother) and comedian Christian Finnegan (as Nick’s best friend).

LeToya Luckett‘s big screen debut will come October 30th with the movie “Preacher’s Kid.” The flick, starring Letoya Luckett, Essence Atkins and Tank portrays an unworldy young woman named Angie (played by LeToya) who takes off with a charming actor in a touring gospel play, despite her father warning her not to.
