Derrick Rose will miss the rest of the NBA postseason after he tore his ACL last night as the Chicago Bulls took on the Philadelphia 76ers Saturday (Apr 28) during Game 1 of the 2012 NBA Playoffs.

The injury happened near the end of the game with just over a minute to go when Rose landed awkwardly after a jump stop and fell to the floor.

The Bulls later announced that Rose had torn his ACL and will not be able to play in any of the remaining playoff games.

This makes Rose’s sixth injury this season alone, and he has only played 39 games out of 66 after suffering a series of injuries throughout the season, which was cut short following last year’s lockout.

Despite the Bulls defeating the Sixers, 103 to 91, advancing past this point will be pretty difficult without their star player, but Joakim Noah doesn’t sound too worried.

“I know how bad he wants to be out there,” Rose’s teammate said. ‘“Regardless of what happens, we’re a capable group. We’ve been through this throughout the year. We can play ball without Derrick, as well.”

The 2008 Finals was a great event in itself, but the final long awaited match-up between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics was nail biting, to say the least, until the final buzzer. The past rivalry between these two team is legendary. For the 11th time, they battled head to head for the championship title. Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce were known as the ‘Big Three’ all up against a one man stampede, Kobe Byrant. The Los Angeles Lakers showed their teamwork in the 2008 Finals, but the Celtics lead the series victoriously.  Although the Boston Celtics took the 2008 Championship title, it was still very interesting watching every game they played against one another, making it the best moment in sports.

Southside Chicago native point guard, Derrick Rose, was chosen as the top draft pick of the NBA. Rose got recognition for his position by scouts who had watched him play for his college basketball team, University of Memphis Tigers. During his freshman year at the University of Memphis playing with the Tigers, he lead his team to 38 consecutive wins breaking a new NCAA record taking them to the NCAA Division Basketball Tournament.  He was selected first overall by hometown team, Chicago Bulls, in the 2008 NBA Draft. At 6-foot-3, Rose is now averaging 17.2 points per game.

The Women’s National Basketball Association is known for there charisma and strong athletic women, but until recently, they’ve never been known for “cat fights!” One of the most respected womens’ basketball team, the Los Angeles Sparks, was involved in a brawl against the Detroit Shock. Candace Parker and Lisa Leslie were ejected from the game in the final 90 seconds. It was wild seeing all that athleticism get thrown hand to hand between all those strong women…hahaha.

(PHOTO: GETTY IMAGES) No. 1 Chicago Bulls draft pick, Derrick Rose, is going to be sitting the rest of the 2008 NBA Summer League games because of straining tendinitis in his right knee. It looks like he won’t be playing again until the regular season starts in October 2008. Derrick Rose talked about his injury after the loss against the New Jersey Nets:

“It’s just tendinitis and nothing like, super bad with the knee,” said Rose, “They say it keeps happening because I’m young and my legs aren’t strong enough and they have to work on my legs.”

I never did get to see D-Rose murder the court and scoreboard but I guess we’ll have to see what’s in store for the new season. I knew it had to be a better explanation of why D-Rose wasn’t performing as well as he could have. I look forward to watching him when the new season starts.

ORLANDO, FLORIDA // TUESDAY, JULY 8TH 2008 » There’s some good news and some bad news…which one do you want first? Good News! The Chicago Bulls defeated the Indiana Pacers yesterday by 5 points (89-84), but Derrick Rose‘s performance was almost identical to his first debut in the pro league.

Derrick Rose shot only 2/9 baskets successfully scoring only 9 points in the whole game. I guess the injury he’s suffering from is putting a strain on his game. He did manage to get 7 assists. Derrick Rose sat out the entire 4th quarter of the game because of it. I’m still waiting for D-Rose to dominate. Rose talked about his knee after the game:

“Of course I wanted to push the ball a little more and run and get everybody else involved and I was able to do that,” Rose said. “[The knee] is fine. I just jammed it a little bit and I should be all right. They had to sit me out because I hurt my knee. I wanted to get back in, but they just told me to sit back down. When I made my last layup, I jump-stopped and I landed a little too hard on it.”

The next game is against the Orlando Magic. Maybe D-Rose will show us..next time.

MAITLAND, FLORIDA // MONDAY, JULY 7TH 2008 » The top two NBA draft picks, Derrick Rose & Michael Beasley, played against one another yesterday in the 2008 NBA Pro Summer League and Michael Beastly proved he has what it take to step it up in the pro league. Although, this was only a summer league debut it looks at whose gonna be the most worthy and valuable to each team. Michael Beasley out shined the first draft pick known as D-Rose and took the first win in Round 1 of the Summer League games. Beasley scored 28 points in his first game, helping his team, to win and lead the game (94-70).

Although, Mike Beasley soared his first game in the mix of the league games, he’s still modestly hard on himself:

“[I] Could have played better,” Beasley said. “[I] Could have got a couple more assists, made a couple extra passes, got a couple more rebounds, could have got a couple stops early on.”

Derrick Rose, of course, had his shining moments but he never took over the game offensively they way he should’ve (being first draft pick and all). D-Rose finished with 10 points, 4 assists and 5 rebounds. Derrick Rose fell short yesterday but is preparing for the next game:

“We didn’t win,” Rose said, “so I think I played horrible. But tomorrow’s a new day.”

I hope D-Rose shows us what he’s got because I know he has skills and I’m a Chicago native so he needs to punch the gas next time. I’m looking forward to seeing more these two in the near future. Check out the video + photos below.
