It’s official. “Anchorman 2″ is happening!

Will Ferrell paid a visit to Conan O’Brien‘s TBS late-night talk show in character as Ron Burgundy and announced the sequel to the hugely popular 2004 comedy “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.”

After playing some jazz flute and going back and forth with Conan O’Brien, Will Ferrell Ron Burgundy made his big announcement:

“As of oh-nine-hundred hours Mountain Time, Paramount Pictures and myself, Ronald Joseph Aaron Burgundy, have come to terms on a sequel for ‘Anchorman.’ It is official: There will be a sequel to ‘Anchorman.’”

Mr. Burgundy then played more jazz flute before he disappeared into the curtains.

A release date for “Anchorman 2″ hasn’t been revealed, but according to reports, actors Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and David Koechner will reprise their roles from the original movie.

The original “Anchorman” was released in July 2004 and grossed US$28.4 million in its opening weekend before going on to gross over $85 million in North America, and $5.2 million in the rest of the world for a worldwide total of $90.5 million, well above its $26 million budget.

The Obamas were joined by a host of celebs — including Jennifer Hudson, Justin Bieber, Cee-Lo Green, Conan O’Brien, Nickelodeon star Victoria Justice and The Band Perry — as they all got into the festive spirit Sunday (Dec 11) in Washington D.C. at the annual Christmas in Washington ceremony.

“This is the season to celebrate the story of how, more than two thousand years ago, a child was born to two faithful travelers who could find rest only in a stable, among cattle and sheep,” President Barack Obama, who was accompanied by First Lady Michelle and the First Daughters Sasha and Malia, said near the close of the concert, which was hosted by Conan O’Brien.

“He was no ordinary child,” Obama said. “He was the manifestation of God’s love. And every year we celebrate His birth because the story of Jesus Christ changed the world.”

Singers Jennifer Hudson, Justin Bieber, Cee-Lo Green, Conan O’Brien and Victoria Justice took turns singing classic holiday tunes like “This Christmas,” “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” “Let It Snow,” “Do You Hear What I Hear,” “Away In a Manger,” “Silent Night” and several others during the concert, which is set to air on TV this Friday (Dec 16) on TNT.

The stars were out last night on the red carpet of the 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards!

Held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles and hosted by Jane Lynch, the 2011 Emmys featured red carpet appearances from tons of celebs, including actresses Taraji P. TV personality Conan O’Brien kicked off his “Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On TV Tour” last night (Mon. Apr 12) at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts in Eugene, Oregon. The former “Tonight Show” host rocked a beard as he performed a “high energy show” in front of thousands of his fans for about 2 hours. He even played a little guitar for his “Team Coco” supporters.

During his encore, the rockabilly number “Forty Days,” Mr. O’Brien bolted the stage, guitar in hand, and waded up the aisles. On his way back, he stopped by a female fan with outstretched arms and planted a kiss on her. A few steps farther down the aisle, a young man of about 25, two seats in, leaned out and ostentatiously offered his own cheek for Mr. O’Brien to kiss. He was accommodated. As Mr. O’Brien continued down the aisle, the young man’s friend said, “Now you can’t wash that cheek.” The fan replied, “Now I can die happy.”

The show was more a raucous variety and vaudeville act than stand-up performance, though Mr. O’Brien — in a red beard that was neatly trimmed, but not as trim as the comic himself, who looked slimmer than at any point in recent memory — did deliver an opening monologue. But he also sang with ferocity, blasted away on three separate guitars, and danced with reckless abandon at several junctures.

In related news, Conan recently landed a deal with TBS where he will develop a show to replace “Lopez Tonight,” moving George Lopez‘ show to midnight, instead of its current 11 PM position. After months of uncertainty, TV personality Conan O’Brien will be returning to the late night television with a brand new show on TBS!

“In three months I’ve gone from network television to Twitter to performing live in theaters, and now I’m headed to basic cable. My plan is working perfectly,” O’Brien said.

Most of you are probably thinking, “Isn’t this George Lopez‘ spot?” And you would be correct in your thoughts, but Mr. Lopez, who was very instrumental in getting Conan to join the network, has happily agreed to move to the midnight spot to make way for Conan O’Brien to air his show at 11 PM.

“I can’t think of anything better than doing my show with Conan as my lead-in,” Lopez said. “It’s the beginning of a new era in late-night comedy,” Lopez said in a statement.

“Conan has been the comedic voice for a generation. TBS already has a huge audience of young comedy lovers, and Conan’s show will give these fans even more reasons to watch our network,” the president of Turner Entertainment Networks, which owns TBS, added.

O’Brien, who is currently in the middle of touring with his live show called the “Legally Prohibited from being Funny on Television Tour,” hosted NBC‘s “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” for well over a decade-and-a-half before he took Jay Leno‘s place as host of “The Tonight Show” for a mere 7 months. He left NBC with a $40 million payout at the beginning of this year.

Television/Twitter personality Conan O’Brien recently announced that he was going on a “half-assed” live comedy tour and will be stopping in 30 cities across North America. All of this comes just a month and a half after he officially left his post at NBC as host of the “Tonight Show.”

TV personality Conan O’Brien officially joined Twitter Wednesday (Feb 24) and he already has nearly 340k followers. The former “Tonight Show” host made fun of Twitter last summer but now that he lost his job to Jay Leno, he’s bitten the bullet and joined the popular social networking website. And his bio (as well as his first couple of tweets and his default pic) are hilarious! It’s interesting to see how he’ll use this account. We hope he shares a little on how he feels about NBC these days…

We’re sure you’ve caught wind of all the drama surrounding NBC’s late night talk show, Jay Leno and the newly departed Conan O’Brien. NBC recently experimented with the idea of giving Jay’s show the 11:30 PM slot and bumping Conan’s show to midnight. But Conan wasn’t having that so he walked away from the network with a $33 million check.

And now Jay Leno has been painted as a “bad guy” so he went on Oprah to respond to everyone who is saying that he should take the blame for Conan O’Brien’s exit. Here’s what Jay Leno told Oprah during his appearance on her show Thursday (Jan 28):

“I always felt I was doing the right thing,” Jay said, looking puzzled.  “How can you do the right thing and have it go so wrong?”  He said he remembered thinking, “Maybe I’m doing something wrong if this many people are angry and upset over a television show. I had a show. My show got canceled. … Who wouldn’t take that job? …  I think I’m a good guy. Am I not a good guy?

“I wasn’t the reason. The reason was ratings.”

And here’s what Oprah had to say about the situation:

Oprah said, “This is what I think: I’m really surprised that so many people are against you. I think people don’t understand the way television works. I could understand people thinking you were selfish if you owned the show. People think you stole the show when in fact it wasn’t your show to steal.”

After only 7 months of hosting NBC’s “The Tonight Show,” TV host/comedian Conan O’Brien ended his stint on the late-night talk show with over 7 million viewers watching. Conan welcomed Tom Hanks, Will Ferrell and fellow NBC employee Steve Carell from “The Office.” And Neil Young acted as the musical guest for the final show.

He opened the show with a brief monologue and then moved right into a late-blooming bit that just popped up in the last few days: “The Expensive Thing That NBC Has to Pay For.” The Friday night version, according to O’Brien, came directly from the Smithsonian: a complete fossilized skeleton of a ground sloth. “And it’s spraying beluga caviar all over an original Picasso!” O’Brien said joyously. “We just bought this on NBC’s credit card to the tune of $65 million.”

That was followed by a rather sentimental montage of highlights from Conan’s seven months on the job, from his coast-to-coast run from New York to Los Angeles to his many encounters with animals. The package, scored by Cheap Trick’s “Surrender” (as featured in his very first episode) ended with a card that said “To Be Continued.”

As guests on his final show, Conan welcomed Tom Hanks, Will Ferrell and musical guest Neil Young. But before he could get to the guests, he said he had to go through an exit interview with an NBC employee. That employee? “The Office” star Steve Carell. “First question: Would you describe your NBC experience as positive, very positive or extremely positive?” Carell joked. “Did anything trigger your decision to leave?” Carell played the bit remarkably straight, even offering some words of encouragement, which he stole from the movie “Up in the Air.” At the end, he demanded O’Brien hand over his ID badge, which got boos from the audience as Carell inserted it into a paper shredder.

When Hanks showed up, he brought two glasses of what O’Brien thought was scotch. “Around my house, they call this ‘Daddy’s Little Reward,’ ” he said. When they drank, he realized that it was just cream soda. “This is diet cream soda!” O’Brien joked. Hanks then reminded the audience that he was the one who started calling O’Brien “Coco” on his second show. “In our house, you’ll always be the host of ‘The Tonight Show,’ ” Hanks said. “So if you could show up around 10:45, that would be great. And Rita and I will try to stay up for the full hour.”

O’Brien then welcomed Neil Young, who he introduced as the first person to call him and offer support once the news came down about his losing his spot on NBC. Armed only with an acoustic guitar and a harmonica, Young performed a quiet, plaintive “Long May You Run,” a Stills-Young hit from 1976.

Before Will Ferrell showed up to close out the show, O’Brien took some time to talk frankly to the fans. “There’s been a lot of speculation in the press about what I legally can and can’t say about NBC. Tonight, I’m allowed to say anything I want,” he said. “What I want to say is this: Between my time at ‘Saturday Night Live,’ ‘The Late Show’ and my brief run on ‘The Tonight Show,’ I’ve worked on NBC for over 20 years. This company has been my home for most of my adult life, and I want to thank NBC for making it all possible.”

He continued, “Walking away from ‘The Tonight Show’ was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. This is the best job in the world. Every comedian dreams of hosting ‘The Tonight Show,’ and I got to do it, and I did it my way. I have had more good fortune than anybody I know, and if our next gig is doing a show in a 7-Eleven parking lot, we will find a way to make it fun.”

By the time he got to thanking the fans at the end of his speech, he was choked up. “I want to say something, especially to young people: Please do not be cynical. I hate cynicism. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen.” The show closed in epic fashion: Ferrell led an all-star version of the “Tonight Show Band” (including Beck, Ben Harper, ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons and O’Brien himself on guitar) through Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird.” It was everything that made Conan’s stint on “The Tonight Show” great: high-concept, hilarious and more than a little absurd. In the end, O’Brien took the final guitar solo as Ferrell broke out the cowbell, and “The Tonight Show” faded to black.

The tribute went just a little bit longer into Jimmy Fallon’s show, “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon,” as he and the Roots performed an a cappella version of Boyz II Men’s “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday” while the host poured a little liquor for his fallen homeboy.

According to our friends over at Pop Eater, Conan O’Brien and NBC inked a deal worth $45 million, paving the way for Jay Leno to return to late night. According to network reps, O’Brien was paid $33 million and his staff received an additional $12 million. It’s also believed that the agreement includes a provision that would ban O’Brien from appearing on other shows.

Jamie Foxx is a funny dude! While on the promo trail for his new movie “Law Abiding Citizen,” the actor/comedian/singer sat down for an interview with Conan O’Brien recently and talked about a few things in addition to the movie, including a possible role as Mike Tyson in a biopic, whether or not he’d take up Kirstie Allie’s Twitter booty call offer and explained how that leaked nude pic made it to the Internet.
