Hip-Hop elite honored the dirty south Thursday night (Jun 3) at the 2010 VH1 Hip-Hop Honors. Held in New York City at the Hammerstein Ballroom, the VH1 Hip-Hop honors was hosted by actor/comedian Craig Robinson and honored Dirty South Hip-Hop Legends like Jermaine Dupri, Master P, Uncle Luke and more.

Celebrities who walked the red carpet before the big show include Keri Hilson, Brandy, Ray J, Chilli, Mystikal (and his pregnant girlfriend), Taraji P. Henson, Rick Ross, Slim Thug, Kelly Rowland, Trina and more.

Rap newcomer Asher Roth, known for having a good time and getting all the girls at the frat parties (according to his music) has recently been the talk of web as rumors have surfaced regarding his sexuality. It has been rumored that in a special interview with E! tv the rapper would come out the closet as a homosexual. Other rumors have stated that the rapper would be dropped from his label SRC records, which is a part of Universal/Motown Records. A SRC spokesperson released a statement saying all rumors were false.

“Asher Roth is not gay, and is not scheduled to be interviewed on the E! Channel,” the statement reads. “Furthermore, Asher has not been dropped from SRC Records, and is a top priority at the label after having sold over a million copies his ‘I Love College’ single. Asher is currently working on his next album for SRC,” the follow-up to his debut Asleep in the Bread Aisle.

The rumor about Roth apparently began when the rapper reportedly made a remark supporting former “American Idol” singer Clay Aiken, who is gay. Blogs and Web sites then posted information that Roth attended a gay rights parade with Lady Gaga, Aiken, and members of Blink-182.

Roth himself has not commented on the matter.

Two of the newest rappers to jump onto the hip-hop scene, Kid Cudi and Asher Roth, are set to kick off their first headlining tour together this summer. Dubbed as “The Great Hangover Tour,” fans from 19 cities around the U.S. will be able to see Roth and Cudi perform their songs from their respective albums. The 19-city tour opens at the House of Blues in Boston on July 14th and wraps up August 5th in Washington D.C. at the 9:30 club with dates in Atlanta, Vegas, Denver, Cleveland, NYC and more.

Roth dropped his debut album Asleep in the Bread Aisle this past April and it debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 album chart the first week of release. To date, it has sold over 120,000 copies in the U.S.

Kid Cudi’s debut album The Man on the Moon with the Guardians isn’t set to be released until late August but people have been riding with this dude since “Day N Nite,” which peaked at No. 3 on the Hot 100. And according to recent Nielson SoundScan stats, the track itself has so far seen over 540,000 digital downloads!

Here’s Asher Roth‘s music video for his latest single “Be Myself” featuring the “freak in the closet” himself, Mr. Cee-Lo Green. This comes straight from Roth’s latest album Asleep In The Bread Aisle, in stores now. Roth gets a lot of comparisons to fellow MC Eminem, and when XXL asked what he thought of the newcomer, Em said:

“He’s doing his own thing. I can respect it too because at the end of the day, I think he’s dope.”

Really, it’s just crazy that he even knows my name in the sense of being a 23-year-old kid on the come up, it’s great to have the pioneers before you really know who you are,” he continued. “It’s still early on in this project, there’s a lot to do, so, it’s awesome, man. We’re not gonna lie. When we first listened to this Asher Roth dude, we could’ve sworn someone accidentally swapped the track with something Eminem was working on. But Asher Roth’s lyrical style is nothing like Eminem’s and we love it. We love Em’s style too, but if dude flowed like Em, that’d be just plain weird. He already has dude’s voice.
