Last week in Atlanta, former NBA great Allen Iverson had his precious Lamborghini towed … which didn’t sit too well with the old NBA MVP.

First of all, the expired tags the car was pulled over for in the first place, have been expired since 2009. There’s no reason why a millionaire should be on the road in a vehicle with expired tags. It’s not like he can’t afford it.

Second of all, Iverson and the driver of his vehicle, Antwuan Clisby, were driving around in a car with no documentation in it. How stupid is that? But wait, it gets worse.

When Clisby told the officer that his passenger (Iverson) had to make it to a 6 PM dinner, the officer told him no one was leaving until the investigation was complete. That’s when Iverson became “irate,” and the officer called for backup. And that’s never a good thing.

When Iverson was told that the Lamborghini would be towed, however, is when he lost it according to CNN.com:

“Take the vehicle, I have 10 more,” Iverson said, according to the report. “Police don’t have anything else (expletive) to do except (expletive) with me.” He then asked, “Do you know who I am?”

The officer wrote in his report that “For the next 20 minutes, Mr. Iverson went on and on about who he was. I stated to Mr. Iverson, ‘It really doesn’t matter who you are. You tried to conceal your vehicle with a fake drive-out tag due to you not paying for your tags.’ ”

Iverson then said, “I make more money than you will in 10 years,” according to the report.

Real class act right there. Need more like him.

As long as athletes are getting paid millions of dollars to play sports, they will continue to make questionable decisions with their money. Case in point, Allen Iverson.

Recently Iverson became the latest athlete to have a mansion of his foreclosed on. While he was playing for the Denver Nuggets, the former NBA MVP purchased a mansion for nearly $4 million dollars:

Iverson, who bought the 6,848-square-foot six-bedroom, nine-bathroom spread for $3.875 million in January 2008, let the property in the Buell Mansion subdivision slip into foreclosure on an outstanding balance of $2,572,914 owed to Wells Fargo Bank, according to a Notice of Election and Demand for Sale filed Feb. 28 in Arapahoe County. Now he’ll likely be on the hook to pay foreclosure costs, the default interest, and other expenses associated with foreclosure.

This story just continues the fall from grace for the former NBA scoring champ who’s currently recovering from an injury he suffered overseas playing for a Turkish basketball team due to a lack of interest from NBA squads.

According to a popular Inquirer Sports Columnist, basketball player Allen Iverson “needs more than a prayer.” Citing his alcohol problems and issues with gambling, sports writer and TV personality Stephen A. Smith gave a pretty detailed account on what’s really going on in AI’s troubled life:

Allen Iverson is in trouble, folks, deep trouble. The combination of alcohol and gambling – and a once-promising career in tatters because of the first two – won’t culminate in anything short of disaster if help does not arrive in short order. If numerous NBA sources are telling the truth – and there’s no reason to believe they’d do otherwise in a situation of this magnitude – Iverson will either drink himself into oblivion or gamble his life away. Moore, ever the protector, would never admit as much, of course. But that’s part of the problem, isn’t it?

Iverson’s wife, Tawanna, having hired some high-powered Atlanta attorney and filed for a divorce last week, does not help matters. Nor does it help that she’s already separated from her husband, with custody of their five kids and seeking both alimony and child support. When you consider Iverson’s well-known penchant for alcohol and his banishment from casinos in Detroit and Atlantic City, if disgust and sadness don’t come to mind, at least one question does: Where is Pat Croce when you need him? Or Iverson’s coach at Georgetown, John Thompson?

Basketball player Allen Iverson‘s wife Tawanna filed for divorce against the Philadelphia 76ers star to end their 8 and a half year marriage this past Tuesday (Mar 2), not too long after the 34-year-old NBA champ announced he would be taking a leave from the game of basketball to tend to his sick daughter.

In the petition, Tawanna asks for temporary and permanent custody of their five children, aged 17 months to 15-years-old, as well as child support and alimony, though she did not ask for a specific dollar amount. AI and his family have lived in north Atlanta since last August, according to papers in the court filing, which also noted that the family of 7 claimed homes in Rochester, MI; Englewood (Denver), CO; and Villanova, PA.

A little over a week prior to the day the divorce petition was filed, Allen and the 76ers announced that he would be leaving the team indefinitely for “personal matters.” He later confirmed via his Twitter that he wanted to stay at home in Atlanta to be with his 4-year-old daughter Messiah, who had an undisclosed illness.

“I need to be there to hold my little girl’s hand and encourage her to get better. I wanted her to wake up every morning and see her Daddy’s face, at least until she got better. Through God’s Strength, She Will Keep Getting Better!”

Before the announcement was made, Iverson had already missed five games with the Sixers, along the big 2010 All-Star Game in Texas, so that he could be with his family. And shortly after the papers for the divorce were filed, Iverson’s team said that he would not be returning at all this season:

“After discussing the situation with Allen, we have come to the conclusion that he will not return to the Sixers for the remainder of the season, as he no longer wishes to be a distraction to the organization and teammates that he loves very deeply,” 76ers general manager Ed Stefanski said. “It has been very difficult for Allen and the team to maintain any consistency as he tries to balance his career with his personal life.”

Wow. Just last week Allen Iverson released a statement announcing his retirement and a few days later Sixers Coach Eddie Jordan denied rumors of Iverson making a comeback to the Philadelphia franchise. But now things have changed.

In a surprising turn of events, Allen Iverson has re-signed as an official player of the Philadelphia 76ers. The NBA star signed a 1 year deal with $1.3 million dollars earlier this week. In a press conference Thursday afternoon (Dec 3), the teary eyed and noticeably emotional 34-year-old guard talked about the progression of his career and how happy he is to be back in Philly as a 76er. His first game is Monday and they’ll be playing against the Denver Nuggets.

“I have a love for them and they love me and it’s evident,” Iverson said. “When I had the opportunity to come back here [voice cracking]. I couldn’t turn it down.” Iverson remained emotional for much of his 35-minute press conference in which he was joined by Sixers president and general manager Ed Stefanski.

Stefanski said that Iverson is expected to make his debut in Monday’s game at the Wachovia Center against one of Iverson’s former teams, the Denver Nuggets. According to Stefanski, Iverson wasn’t guaranteed any minutes or a starting spot, but . . . “We brought him here to play basketball,” Stefanski said after the press conference.

Iverson, who complained about coming off the bench in his last two stops in Detroit and Memphis, insinuated that he would be content with any role with the Sixers. “All I told him [Stefanski] was give me an assignment and I will help you win basketball games,” Iverson said.

Philadelphia 76ers coach Eddie Jordan has denied rumors of Allen Iverson returning to the team and made it known that he hasn’t even talked to the NBA star, who recently announced his retirement.

Jordan downplayed reports Sunday of Iverson coming back to the Sixers, saying the speculation is “probably more in the media than it actually is.” Jordan said he hasn’t discussed Iverson with anyone and that the Sixers aren’t seriously discussing any free agents.

A person with knowledge of the talks said Saturday that the Sixers were approached about signing Iverson and that team management has held internal discussions. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because talks haven’t been made public.

Iverson led the Sixers to the NBA Finals in 2001 and announced his plan to retire this week.

I would like to announce my plans to retire from the National Basketball Association. I always thought that when I left the game, it would be because I couldn’t help my team the way that I was accustomed to. However, that is not the case.

I still have tremendous love for the game, the desire to play, and a whole lot left in my tank. I feel strongly that I can still compete at the highest level.

Stepping away from the game will allow me to spend quality time with my wife and kids. This is a reward that far exceeds anything that I’ve ever achieved on the basketball court. I have prayed for this day and I see it as my greatest gift.

I want to thank the people of Reebok International Ltd., for always allowing me to be me and for supporting me my whole career through all the ups and downs. I have enjoyed 13 wonderful seasons in the NBA, and I am grateful.

I want to first acknowledge my fans everywhere, who have been with me throughout my entire career. Without you, there would be no me. You should all know that I appreciate your support from the bottom of my heart. Thank you!

Allen Iverson chopping his braids off was the talk of NBA All-Star Weekend 2009.

For the first time in 13 years, the Answer buzzed his hair, sporting a new clean cut look just in time for All-Star Weekend. Not since his first couple seasons in the league have fans seen Iverson without his signature cornrows. In a video posts on Yahoo, A.I. showed up in the locker room for the All-Star when his NBA colleagues witnessed the shocking changed, howling and laughing at the sight.

“It’s a wrap,” Iverson says.

According to Yahoo’s spots blog, it wasn’t until the 1997 rookie game that the b-ball showed up with his now trademark braids. It was a straight East/West Rookie back and forth back then, no sophomores (that didn’t take off until a year after the lockout year, which went without an All-Star weekend), and AI showed up with braids.

Looks like this is the beginning of the end of that cornrow trend. Carmelo, Trey Songz, Ludacris, Busta Rhymes (he had dreads, but still), Omarion, BowWow … the list goes on. Who’s next? Lloyd told us back in July 2008 that he wouldn’t be cutting his anytime soon, but… things change over time.

The Detroit Pistons’ roster was revised with a new player, Allen Iverson, a few days ago and they greeted him with a warm welcome. Despite with a new number, Iverson’s first game with Detroit counted as a loss. The New Jersey Nets took the game by 7 (103-96). Iverson first accumulated stats on the Pistons were 24 points and 6 assists. Iverson stated:

“It was a good feeling for me,” Iverson said. “I haven’t been able to play for a while so it was good to get back on the basketball court. I’ll try to get a little bit of my rust off.”

It turned out to be a career-high game of 38 points for opposing for Nets’ guard Devin Harris.

“It was just about playing hard,” Harris said. “We didn’t get off to the best start. We have been really struggling in the third quarter but tonight we came out with more aggressiveness. Points for me didn’t matter. It was all about the win. We desperately needed this for our confidence’s sake.”

Richard Hamilton scored 22 points TyShaun Prince finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Winning team players, Vince Carter and Josh Boone both totaled a number of 18 points. Check out the SCHEDULE for tomorrow’s games.

Denver Nuggets All-Star guard Allen Iverson has been traded to the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons released players Chauncey Billups, Antonio McDyess AND Cheikh Samb in exchange for Iverson. Jon Dumars, Pistons President Basketball Operations, is excited to welcome A.I. to Detroit.

Dumars recently restated his joy to have acquired Mr. Iverson:

“We are pleased to welcome Allen Iverson to the Pistons organization,” said Dumars. “Allen has proven he is one of the elite players in the league and we like what he adds to our roster at the guard position. We appreciate everything that Chauncey Billups, Antonio McDyess and Cheikh Samb brought to the organization during their time here in Detroit and we certainly wish them all the best.”

The Denver Nuggets can seem to get it right. I don’t know if it’s intimidation of Kobe Bryant or what. The L.A. Lakers win a another victorious game last night by 18 (102-84). The stats are now in the Lakers favor with their own winning rampage (3-0). Top player of last night’s game has to be Kobe Bryant. Kobe scored 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 assists. Pau Gasol had 14 points, 5 assists, and 3 rebounds. Lamar Odom had 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists. Allen Iverson was disappointed about the loss and knows he wasn’t on his best skills last night. Iverson had a total of 15 points, 3 assists, and 4 rebounds. A.I. said after the game:

“I was getting to the basket, I just wasn’t finishing.” Ivo added, “And the same thing happened to ‘Melo’.”

Carmelo Anthony had 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 1 assist. Melo was infuriated about the losing at home. At the end of the game he states:

“In a game like tonight, on our home court, us giving up as a whole is uncalled for,” Anthony fumed. “Yeah. We quit. Everybody. From the coaches to the players, we quit. And I said it.

“I’m not blaming anyone. I’m not pointing the fingers at nobody. I didn’t play worth a [expletive] tonight, and I can accept that. But as a competitor, there’s no way that I should lay down and quit and lay down on my team like we did tonight.”

No one could stop Kobe Bryant last night, scoring 19 points within a time span of 4:19 of the 4th quarter. K.B. had a total of 49 points and 10 assists. Pau Gasol had 18 points and 10 rebounds. Luke Walton had 18 points. Opponent Allen Iverson responded after the game:

“Tonight, the way he was going, we probably could’ve put 10 people on the court and probably wouldn’t have been able to stop him [Kobe].”

Allen Iverson didn’t do bad at all in this loss at all. A.I. totaled 31 points and 6 assists. Carmelo Anthony added 23 points. Marcus Camby racked 17 rebounds and 4 blocked shots for Denvers’ defense.

Kobe Byrant ecstatic about the win and the future of the playoffs. Kobe talked about his scoring spree at the end of game 2 last night:

“I didn’t realize it,” he continued. You just get into one of those rhythms. My teammates were looking for me, it just feels like the ball finds you.”

Game 3 airs Monday Apr. 28th on TNT

Gasol had 36 points, 8 assists, 16 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots. L.A. took the victory with a 14-point win (128-114). Kobe Bryant scored 18 points of his total 32 points in the last 8 minutes of the game to make sure they’ll lead the victory. Lamar Odom had 17 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists. On the opposing team, Carmelo Anthony was MVP out of his teammates scoring 30 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals. Allen Iverson had 30 points as well before he was immediately removed for 2 technical fouls. L.A. Lakers’ MVP of the game, Pau Gasol, said at the end of the game:

“It feels amazing, it feels great. I had a blast out there.” Gausol said, “We did a pretty good job, we can do better. We’re happy with the win, I’m happy with the win. Hopefully there will be many more.”

Game 2 for the L.A. Lakers is Wednesday night.
