It is no secret that Fantasia has been in the midst of the media’s scrutiny for her relationship with Antwaun Cook. Though this event seems to be currently overshadowing everything, I will not focus on it as I personally believe that no one knows the whole truth except Fantasia, Antwaun, and Paula. What I will say is that Fantasia’s upcoming album Back To Me is the best R&B album I have heard in a while. I have been listening to the album nonstop since I received it and below is my track by track review:

I’m Doin’ Me: This is a great introduction to the album. Fantasia talks about her independence from a man and how’s she’s “doing me” from now on. Apart from being about a significant other, I can easily see this as a song for the team that handled her second album and the issues that caused her previous drama with money and her home. Definitely a head-nodding and foot-tapping feel good track. (3.7/5)

Bittersweet: Produced by Chuck Harmony, this serves as the “official” first single for the album (even though we all know it was the failed “Even Angels”.) Nevertheless, the track has finally made onto both the R&B and Hot 100 charts and rightly so as it’s classic R&B track. (4/5)

Man Of The House: Fantasia flips the script here on her man and lets him know that if he can’t be the man of the house, she will gladly take over. The production on the track is extremely catchy and it’ll have you grooving along with it. At this point you’ll probably notice that Fantasia is staying with her R&B roots and she does it well. (4/5)

Who’s Been Lovin’ You: Though this song is very nice, for some reason it feels like an album filler. Maybe it’s the sudden change from being headstrong in the previous track to suddenly asking her man who’s always been there for her. Naturally, Fantasia sounds great on it and many will surely like it, but it lacks something. (3.5/5)

Collard Greens And Cornbread: Definitely one of the best tracks on the album. I will admit I was one of the many who laughed at the thought of a track with such a title and thought it’d be stupid, but the track is outstanding. I can honestly see this playing back in the ’60s, today, and years from now. And for some reason, I can’t see anyone else pulling off a track about comparing her man’s loving to soul food but Fantasia. There’s just something about it that works. (5/5)

Teach Me: This is a really simple track about being a student of love and wanting to learn the right things to do from your lover. There’s nothing else to say about it; her vocals fit nicely on the laid back track but not a favorite. (3.5/5)

Move On Me: It’s clear why Fantasia was so adamant for this to be the first single off the album – it has hit written all over it. It will have you grooving and singing along and her emotions clearly shine through. A very good track that could have done well on the charts if released. Definitely one of my favorite tracks! *Note to Fantasia’s team: release this ASAP!* (5/5)

Trust Him: Not a favorite track of mine but also not a bad track. Fantasia sings about meeting a man and just wanting to spend every minute with him, though she can’t put her finger on why she’s so into him and trusts him so much. An okay song…..nothing special. (3.5/5)

The Thrill Is Gone: Featuring Cee-Lo Green, this track definitely feels like it belongs somewhere in the ’70s but that’s not a bad thing. It’s funky and cool and Fantasia’s vocals work perfectly with the production. (3.7/5)

Falling In Love Tonight: Fantasia scores once again with this track. Produced by Jim Jonsin and Rico Love, the song makes you feel good as you’re in those early phases of falling in love. She doesn’t over sing and the nice production doesn’t overshadow her. (5/5)

Even Angels: This was originally the first single from the album. I’ve liked it since I first heard it and even more when Fantasia performed it on Oprah. It’s a very simple song but still boosts confidence and though Fantasia isn’t singing it out as much as she does in other tracks, she still shines. I think this may have been billed as the first single because her team wanted to play it “safe” with a song that could have had crossover appeal, instead of going with something more natural and more of her style. Nevertheless, still a great song worth listening to! (4.5/5)

The Worst Part Is Over: With everything currently going on in Fantasia’s life, it seems fitting that this song is on the album. Fantasia sings with such emotion and sincerity that you’d think the recent events occurred before her recording of the track. Coincidentally, it was not listed on the early track-listing but has now made the album’s final cut. It fits her situation perfectly and hopefully, for her, the worst part is indeed over. (5/5)

I’m Here: Taken from the Broadway musical “The Color Purple”, Fantasia’s voice once again shines through another song. The more I listen to the song, the more I wish I had actually seen her play Celie during that run of the musical. In addition, though she’s not speaking of her life, some of the lyrics fit perfectly with her situation and keeping her head up through the ordeal and as she’s dragged through the media, telling them that she’s standing “tall as the tallest tree”. (5/5)

Despite all the drama surrounding her personal life, Fantasia has delivered a hit! From the first track to the last, she sings her heart out and has you grooving right along with her, whether it’s comparing sex to your mama’s “Collard Greens and Cornbread” or thinking about your trials and tribulations and telling yourself that “The Worst Part is Over”. She is able to convey the right emotions with each song and pull out the right feelings from the listener. She’s definitely one artist that does not have to strain her vocals to get the right notes out – they seem to flow effortlessly. “Back To Me” is her best album to date and will be remembered as her “comeback” album. Here’s to hoping the audience pushes their personal views of Fantasia out of the way long enough to notice a great album sitting on the shelves.

Overall – 4.3/5 or B (though in my opinion, the overall collection of work deserves an A).

Barbadian pop princess Rihanna has released her highly anticipated fourth album Rated R and said album is truly autobiographical to the terms of her life right now. When compared to her last effort Good Girl Gone Bad, there is a more vulnerable and outspoken collection of music on this latest project. In spite of all the controversy surrounding Rihanna’s promotional techniques the album still adds great value to her unique artistry. With the first single “Russian Roulette,” penned by Ne-Yo, people mistakenly accused Rihanna of suicidal impressions but in reality the game of Russian Roulette is comparable to the characteristics of love.

Over a period of time, Rihanna’s image has become much more edgy and so has her music. Rihanna as an icon and artist has transformed into a more expressive dark style and sound. On the promotional photos of Rated R, it’s been observed that the good girl who went bad has been covering the same eye that was blacked on that infamous February night. Rihanna herself has even stated that this album told “a very honest story from her point of view.” On Rated R, you’ll get somewhat of a Barbadian rooted raw vocal talent from Rihanna attached with an emotional message within each track.

For the production of the album, Ri didn’t stray too far away from the people she’s worked with in the past. The-Dream, Justin Timberlake, Tricky Stewart and StarGate are some of the people who helped Rihanna turn her messages into melody. With “Cold Case Love,” written by Justin Timberlake, Rihanna reveals deeper emotion about an “illegal love.” On the track “Photographs” featuring Will.i.am, Rihanna sings about a destroyed love and memories that are lost but captured by photos.

In addition, there are some fun records on the album and one of them is “Rude Boy,” (produced by StarGate), which challenges an interest in a guy she thinks is apparently rude. She also explores a love interest in a woman who speaks a language she can’t understand in the track , “Te Amo,” which was also produced by StarGate. And on the second single, “Wait Your Turn,” clearly states her standing ground in the music industry.

Rated R is a very solid album despite all of the thoughts behind her wait to speak out about her highly publicized past. Rihanna’s latest album is a very pleasantly surprising collection of music that won’t leave you dissappointed. Amerie is back to fight her way back up the charts with her latest album, In Love & War. After Touch, her last US released studio album was released in 2005 she’s back from a hiatus with brand a new home at Island Def Jam and a new line of producers behind her unique and soulful voice. With the release of her lead single “Why R U,” she let fans get a taste of 80′s Hip-Hop flare and hinted at what was to come next, which was the official single, “Heard ‘Em All,” penned and produced with the help of Sean Garrett and Eric Hudson.

You can definitely tell the absence of Rich Harrison was missed throughout this projectl though with the help from today’s best, the project came out well written and the sound quality was efficient. Amerie has had a lot of buzz during the past week with the anticipation of her new album. Amerie released a album, Because I Love It, in 2007 which hit shelves in the US after a year of being in the UK. With a four year void of Amerie she comes back hard with with her track “Heard ‘Em All” stating her landing back onto the scene.

In Love & War brings out a more eclectic Amerie adding Rock and Dance elements to the album. Although, the songs are fitting to Amerie’s voice, it seems like producers spent too much time trying to emulate the sounds of Rich Harrison’s “1 Thing”. All in all, Amerie delivered strong vocally on the entire album. Her voice is definitely one that’s missed throughout the R&B movement.

Super producer Bryan Michael Cox composed the soft slow-tempo “Red Eye.” Rico Love penned the hard-hitting cut, “Swag Back,” produced by Jim Jonsin. The track “More Than Love” which features Fabolous entails a dysfunctional relationship. The third single, “Pretty Brown,” which features Trey Songz is reminiscent to the modern day version of her debut single, “Why Don’t We Fall In Love,” as far as sound is concerned.

If this album was to have a standard grade I think it deserves a B-. This album is solid. It may not resemble the older sounds when Amerie first stepped on the scene but her sound has definitely evolved with more diversity of sound.

Notable tracks: Heard ‘Em All, Swag Back, Pretty Brown, Red Eye, Different People

The diva is back! Whitney Houston released her sixth studio album I Look To You today showing the world that she’s still got it. I Look To You is Whitney’s first album in almost seven years and it features production from Akon, Swizz Beats, Danja, etc.

Ranked as the fourth best-selling female artist in the US, Whitney’s career took a turn when she turned to drugs during the late 90s and early 2000s. With her suddenly becoming missing in action for interviews and performances, being fired from the Academy Awards, and losing many pounds due to drugs and stress, the legend that was once known for her amazing and powerful vocals became an object for negative criticism. When asked about her drug use in an interview with Diane Sawyer in 2002, Whitney dismissed the rumors, claiming that “crack is whack,” a line that would later become infamous.

But after years and years of controversy, Clive Davis announced in March 2007 that Houston would be heading back into the studio to work on a new studio project. The product of these sessions became I Look To You. I have listened to the album a couple times and below is my track my track review!

Million Dollar Bill: Whitney knows how to start an album. The beginning of the Alicia Keys penned track starts off with Whitney singing “Oooh…” before going into the groovy feel good dance track. Swizz really did his thing on this song. It will have you moving within the first few lines and Whitney sounds amazing on it. Even without having any high notes to reach, you will notice that the voice is still there. (4/5)

Nothin’ But Love: Whitney lets her haters know that she has “nothin’ but love” for them on this song. The mid-tempo track will make you bop your head while still allowing you to feel the message behind the lyrics. Not surprisingly, Whitney sounds good even without trying and I love when she breaks it down on the bridge then goes on to hold on to a note, proving that she hasn’t lost it just yet. Definitely an inspirational track but also a feel good one! (3.5/5)

Call You Tonight: A very nice track. The production is on point and Whitney only adds to the smoothness of it. Vocals are stable but the ending is a bit overdone. Not the best record on the album bu definitely a good one! (3.5/5)

I Look To You: One of Whitney’s first singles and also the first ballad on the album. I wasn’t sure how I felt about this track when it first surfaced. Once I listened to the lyrics and the emotion behind the voice, I grew to like it and it fits perfectly with the album. I Love everything about the song – the piano and simple yet powerful production, the voice, the lyrics … everything. (4/5)

Like I Never Left: Before I talk about the actual song, I must ask…whydoes Akon feel the need to say “Konvict” and “Akon” on every track he produces or is on? I was feeling the starting melody before he threw me off. But besides this, it’s a nice track but it sounds like a filler. It’s not bad as fillers sometimes are but I’m not feeling it like the previous tracks. (3/5)

A Song For You: This song starts off slow then progresses into a dance track. The beat is nice but the song doesn’t really do much for me. I found myself a bit disinterested after a while. It’s radio friendly but then again, that’s not necessarily a good thing. (3/5)

I Didn’t Know My Own Strength: I loved this song from the time it leaked. It’s really inspirational and it’s Whitney singing about her own trials and tribulations. Whenever an artist does that on a song, the listener ends up connecting with the it, and that notion definitely falls true for this song. The CD version of the track is a bit different from the leaked version. Towards the ending, there is no choir singing along with Whitney. I prefer the early version with the choir – it adds a lot more to the song. (3.5/5)

Worth It: The song opens saying “This is for the lovers…” and she repeats it through the song. Very nice R&B love song. It’s not love-making music like Whitney sings but I can see couples getting down to this. (3.7/5)

For The Lovers: I can see this track being a hit though it isn’t that great. It isn’t bad either but it’s obvious it’s a track made for the radio. The production is nice and it’s also nice hearing Whitney broadening her style. If this is released as a single, I see it doing very well. (3.5/5)

I Got You: Can’t decide how I feel about this track. At times it sounds like a filler but then at other parts (mostly the chorus), I actually like the track. With this song, you either like it or you don’t. I’m leaning towards the latter. (3/5)

Salute: One of the better tracks on the album. Say what you want about R. Kelly, but he knows how to write a hit! The production by Tricky Stewart is on point as well, and Whitney sounds great on it.  The best line from the song would have to be “don’t call it a comeback, I been here for years; through all the drama and the pain and all the tears.” The song is definitely a reflection of Whitney and all she’s been through. A really good way to end the album. (4.5/5)

Whitney came, she saw, and she conquered. I don’t have a doubt in my mind that this album will do well on the charts because it has a nicely arranged collection of the necessary feel good tracks, the ballads, and the mid-tempos. The opening and closing tracks of the album are placed properly. Unlike many albums, this one doesn’t have many fillers or tracks to just skip through.

But like any other album, I Look To You does have its flaws. The album feels very safe but to be honest, it doesn’t stop it from being a good record. Since this is Whitney’s “comeback,” I kind of understand why she took the safe route. With what is the biggest comeback this year so far, no huge risks should be taken. They provided Whitney with tracks they knew she could sing well and would appeal to audiences. Once she is fully back into the music field, I think we will hear more of the old Whitney and a greater variety of music from her.

And lastly, but probably what most people are looking forward to hearing about, Whitney’s voice. No, she does not belt and sound like she did when she sang “I Will Always Love You.” Nor is there a track on here as classic as that song. But, Whitney does sound good! She still has her voice and even though it may not be “the voice,” it’s good enough to get her to the top and blow other artists away. With I Look To You, Whitney has proven that through all her trials, nothing can stop her.

With my calculations, the album gets a 3.6/5 but as a collective whole, I give the album a very solid B+. I Look To You is in stores now!

Ex-Destiny’s Child member LeToya Luckett returns with her sophomore album Lady Love after the success of her No. 1 self-titled debut. Lady Love doesn’t submit itself to today’s dance pop craze and LeToya stays true to her R&B roots. Everyone loves good old school R&B but is this good enough to keep the Houston-born singer relevant? Keep reading to find out!

Lady Love: When the song starts, it sounds like it should be a short interlude to the album but then the track progresses. The track is definitely nothing special and I don’t think it should have been the opening of the album. Should be a filler track. (2.5/5)

She Ain’t Got…: Swing batta batta batta… LeToya’s second single and the most pop song on the album. The electric guitars, synth, and drums add to the very catchy song. We’ve all heard the story before: man cheats on a woman and the woman goes off stating that she’s much better than the new woman. The only difference here is that it’s incorporated into a hard club song. (3.5/5)

Not Anymore: I wasn’t too keen on this song when it was first released because I didn’t think the video fit. After listening to it again, I’m actually feeling it. The lyrics and vocals are on point in the mid-tempo track. Nevertheless, there are two cons to the song: the random “this is dedicated to…” that repeats towards the end of the track is distracting and kind of takes you out of the mood of the song. Also, I feel the track would be better if it was simply piano and drums instead of the synth that’s added in the chorus. (3.5/5)

Lazy: Definitely one of the best tracks on the album. LeToya claims that her heart has gotten lazy and that she doesn’t feel like loving anymore. The beat is infectious and you’ll bop your head through the song. I can see this doing well if released as a single. (4/5)

Good To Me: I can’t decide how I feel about this track. It isn’t anything worth calling home about but I can’t deny that the beat is very catchy. Though it isn’t a club song, I can see this playing during the “slow jams” set at a club while teens grind out to it. And very surprisingly, LeToya belts out a line towards the end and it doesn’t sound half bad. (3.2/5)

Over: Ms. Luckett warns her man that it would be “over” if he ever cheated on her in this mid-tempo ballad. The production is nice and she sounds good. Is it single worthy? Don’t really think so. (3.5/5)

Regret: This is the track that lost over “She Ain’t Got…” for Toya’s second single and it features Ludacris. She later confirmed that this would eventually be released as a single. The production sounds extremely familiar and if you’re a fan of Kelly Rowland’s sophomore album, you’ll notice that the track has been recycled from her song “Ghetto” with Snoop Dogg. It’s a decent track but clearly an album filler and definitely not single worthy. (2.8/5)

I Need A U: The track is a very old-school sounding, love making slow jam. LeToya tries out the old trend of doing a song with light breathy vocals. It’s not bad but it doesn’t really fit her. She isn’t the greatest singer and singing that light doesn’t help showcase her voice. Thankfully, she goes back and forth between the breathy vocals and her normal ones. (3.5/5)

Take Away Love: Another album filler that features British singer Estelle. The beat is nice and smooth but the track is nothing special. I actually got sick of the track 75% of the way through and moved on. (2.5/5)

After Party: Not a complete party jam but this track does have an upbeat tempo that you can dance to. There isn’t much substance to the song and it only works as a feel good song. (2.8/5)

Drained: After a slew of decent tracks, I’m really glad this track came along. It’s not GREAT but it’s definitely better than the last few. The track is R&B but could possibly be considered a little Pop. The beat is nice and smooth and her vocals sound nice in it. (3.5/5)

Tears: Another slow jam where LeToya talks about how her man makes her feel. It’s a sweet song and I can see how some will receive it well. It’s one of those songs that you either like or you don’t. (3/5)

Matter: Clearly another album filler. It has almost the same message as “She Ain’t Got…” but it’s much more slow and boring. (2.5/5)

Love Rollercoaster: For some reason, this sounds more like a Mims track instead of LeToya’s, even though Mims is just a feature. He raps on the first and second verse while Toya just has the hook and third verse. Once again, another filler track and not really feeling it. (2.5/5)

Don’t Need You: Just like the whole album, she’s singing about a relationship…again! The piano in this is beautiful and overall, it’s a nice track. Her vocals are solid but if you’ve heard the other tracks, you’ve heard this one. (3.3/5)

Swagger: This is the album’s bonus track and I thank God that it’s just a bonus track and not on the main album. The track is nothing special and I don’t think it suits her. I can’t see her doing a video or even a performance to this type of song. (2.5/5)

Overall, I was really disappointed with this album. I am glad LeToya didn’t choose to go take the route everyone seems to be taking and change up her sound. She stuck to straight R&B and I appreciate that. But, she did not come hard enough with this album. Track by track, she carried on about a cheating man, loving her man, or NOT loving her man. The subject matter stayed the same and the production didn’t vary too much either.

Vocally, she sounds good but as we all know, she does not have the best voice in the game, which is why I thought the album would be much better than it was. Except for one or two tracks, I cannot see any other song being a single or being deemed as “hot.” With that said, the stand out tracks are: “She Ain’t Got…,” “Not Anymore,” “Lazy,” and “Good To Me.” Good effort but mediocre album at best.

Overall, when my tallys are calculated, the album gets a 3/5. Lady Love is in stores now!

The youngest American Idol winner and platinum selling artist Jordin Sparks returns with her sophomore album Battlefield. Sparks made a splash on the scene not when she AI, but more so with her hit “No Air,” a duet with Chris Brown. While the song granted her a Grammy Nomination, her self-titled debut album only peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 album chart. Now, she’s back with a hot new single and an even more impressive second album. I have spent days listening to the album and here’s my track by track review:

Walking On Snow: The first guitar line of this track sounds a lot like the beginning of Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone” and leaves you to believe that the opening track of this album will be a hit. Unfortunately, the extremely poppish song is only mediocre. But it has a nice beat that will certainly have you moving and Jordin naturally sounds good on it even though the track isn’t truly representative of her talent. I can easily see someone like Hilary Duff on this…the only difference is that Jordin’s vocals are much better. (3/5)

Battlefield: The Ryan Tedder produced track serves as Jordin’s lead single. Surprisingly, this only peaked at No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100. The lyrics and Jordin’s vocals match perfectly to deliver an extremely catchy pop song with a slight rock edge. Easily one of the best tracks on the album. (4/5)

Don’t Let It Go To Your Head: The album’s third track is a cover of the original song by Fefe Dobson. Fefe’s version is much edgier and has a rock sound while this version focuses more on Jordin’s vocals and has a more simple production. But there is no doubt that Jordin delivers. The only thing is that Fefe’s version coincides more with the lyrics. As Jordin sings to her lover telling him not to let how she feels about him go to his head, you still get the feeling that she can’t do without him. Overall, Jordin’s vocals are on point and it’s a nice track. (3.5/5)

S.O.S. (Let The Music Play): This is dance-pop at its best and you can’t listen to this without moving. The track will serve as the album’s second single and is inspired by the 1983 hit “Let the Music Play” by Shannon. Simply put, “S.O.S.” is a track to listen to if you’re in the mood to dance. (3.5/5)

It Takes More: In this Andrea Martin produced track, Jordin sings to her lover that he’s “the only one not worth waiting for” because he basically comes in and out of her life whenever he pleases. It’s good to see Jordin doing more tracks like this that empower females rather than the Hannah Montana sounding tracks that were on her debut (“Shy Boy,” “Now You Tell Me,” “Young And In Love”). She’s moved to tracks that are a bit more mature and they work for her! (3.5/5)

Watch You Go: One of the best songs on the album! If you’re going to sing about loving someone, this is how it should be done! The production is on point and vocally, Jordin more than delivers (especially on the bridge where she sings her heart out). I’ve never seen a pop song sang with such emotion and at this point, you’ll probably wonder why Jordin is still doing pop when her vocals can clearly carry R&B. (4.5/5)

No Parade: A beautiful song and easily one of the best on the album. Immediately when the piano begins, you know it’s one of those songs to listen to when your heart is broken and Jordin’s vocals don’t make it any better. She sings with raw emotion and makes you feel the song, whether you want to or not. If you’re going through a breakup and are listening to this, have a box of tissues close; especially the last time she sings the chorus. (5/5)

Let It Rain: A nice song about letting go of all the tears and fears you once held and “[letting] it rain.” The track is co-written and produced by Toby Gad (“If I Were A Boy”). The build up to the chorus pays off once it starts. This is an enjoyable track you can bob your head to, but the production of it kind of takes away from the meaning. (3.5/5)

Emergency (911): I would never have imagined Jordin doing a pop/rock/dance song like this but she pulls it off well. She sings to her lover that she’s dying of “dance deprivation, emotional starvation” and that she needs him there with her. Jordin also co-wrote the song along with Toby Gad and Lindy Robbins. (3.5/5)

Was I The Only One: Another ballad where Jordin asks if she was the only one who fell in love because she doesn’t understand why they are saying goodbye. Vocally, she sounds very nice and keeps it simple by not hitting her usual high notes. Jordin also receives credit for co-writing the song. (3.8/5)

Faith: Jordin pens this next track with Gad and Robbins. It’s a gospel-inspired ballad that showcases her vocals while telling those in desperate times to have a little faith. Another track makes you wonder why she isn’t doing R&B. (4.5/5)

The Cure: The last track on the standard edition and also my favorite track. Jordin sings to a guy that’s been left by his woman, telling him that she will be his cure if he comes with his heart. I can leave this song on repeat and never get tired of it. The production and instruments are amazing and when matched with Jordin’s vocals, the song is flawless. The song makes you feel like whatever you’re going through will end and you’ll be on top of the world. This track should definitely be the third single! I can see this doing amazing on the charts! I’m even more surprised that she is co-writer of the song. (5/5)

Deluxe Edition:

Papercut: This is the first bonus track on the deluxe edition. Penned by the team that wrote “Faith,” Jordin compares her hurt to a paper cut singing that even though it’s deep and burns, she’s okay and will survive. Nothing special and I would have rather seen a track like “The Cure” or “Worth The Wait” (a bonus from her debut) as an extra track. (3.5/5)

Postcard: Another track that could have been traded. Naturally, her vocals are amazing but the song isn’t anything special. With the title of the track, you can easily tell what the song is about. (4/5)

There is no doubt in my mind that with the right promotion and management, Jordin Sparks will stay in the game for a while and will eventually make her way to the top. Her sophomore effort is an example that the “sophomore jinx” doesn’t happen to everyone. Battlefield is easily superior to her platinum debut. Her songs have gotten more mature and she’s written four of the best songs on the album. Vocally, she effortlessly beats out some of the top artists currently out. She is reminiscent of a young Mariah Carey and with time, she will only get better. I would really like her to try an R&B album. She has the vocals to do it and it might suit her. Simply put, Jordin has established herself as a real artist with Battlefield and hopefully this album will see the success that it deserves.

Overall, I give the album a very solid B. Battlefield will be in stores this Tuesday July 21st.

Common took it back!  Common did a 180 and took hip-hop back to its days of electro, teaming up with Pharrell Williams, who comes off like a modern day version of the 1980s studio whizzes. While we’re used to Common in the role of poetic prophet or self righteous rhyme slayer, Universal Mind Control is primarily a rhythmic celebration, paying tribute to Afrika Bambaataa and Jonzun Crew jams.

LISTEN: Common – CHANGES

When venturing into the album, we couldn’t help but notice that the Chicago native son brings cut-ups and, with reloaded Roland 808, charged tracks blazing through our speakers. Kanye West is a guest artist on “Punch Love,” which conjures futuristic sound that has you instantly hooked. We’re huge fans of Prince and couldn’t help but to notice the obvious inspiration of “Sex for Suga.”

LISTEN: COMMON – ANNOUNCEMENT

Common doesn’t just stop there on this gem. He gets political with the pro Obama, “Changes,” reflecting the need for change and development. The album contiunes to dazzle us. The album draws from inspration from the funky foundation of 60′s and 80′s music.

LISTEN: COMMON – INHALE

Overall, we weren’t quite sure how to take the albums effort to give us sex, hip, pop, and classic political Common at once. It was a little overwhelming but extremely enjoyable. Common never fails to deliver, and this will make an excellent Christmas gift – PURCHASE, PURCHASE, PURCHASE.

I’ll keep this simple. This album is outrageously hot and it’s probably the best Ludacris album since Word of Mouf. When folks consider the best MCs, Ludacris usually isn’t in the mix, but Chris Bridges has been one of the most prolific and consistent rappers of our era and deserves to be on the tip of tongues. He over-reaches thematically on this disc, as he conceives it as a cinematic piece with dramatic production on some tracks.

LISTEN: LUDACRIS – EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS

“Southern Gangsta,” and narration from film stars Ving Rhames and Chris Rock on the hilariously titled and executed “Everybody Hates Chris,” with a chorus that will be a raucous live-set piece.  Even Spike Lee appears to show he got game. All of this would be distracting if the 14 tracks weren’t so damn good. Luda’s lyrics are so sharp and supremely witty throughout. No one provides more quotable lines and pungent punch lines. His sex talk is good-natured and slyly insightful about love, especially with “What Them Girls Like,” but he will always have love for the freak (“Nasty Girl“) with his best unprintable metaphors.

LISTEN: LUDACRIS – ONE MORE DRINK

Many of the guests just pick up paychecks, but some – including Lil Wayne and Common - come up in big ways. Many of the things Luda says in “I Do It for Hip-Hop,” a collaboration with Nas and Jay-Z, despite his smirking persona, are totally believable.

LISTEN: LUDACRIS – SOUTHERN GANGSTA

Overall, the album is hardcore, hilarious, and serious. It’s perhaps the best album he’s released thus far.  The features only increase the heat to the project. Personal favorite is with T-Pain. LOL! GO COP THIS ALBUM – PURCHASE, PURCHASE, PURCHASE!!!!

Brandy will release her fifth studio album, “Human,” on Tuesday, December 9th 2008. This is her first project on her new home label Epic Records. The “Afrodisiac” singer left Atlantic Records back in 2005. After all the drama that occurred in her personal life in recent years, Brandy wants us to know that she is just ‘human.’ The album has critics on edge waiting days before the release to critique audiences of Brandy’s revival.

LISTEN: BRANDY – FALL

Brandy opens up the album with a self expression moment.  So, what is being human all about?  Brandy stated,  “Having the freedom to be yourself.“  Clearly, she’s making sure this album is an emotional journey.  The track instantly slams. “The Definition” sets the tone about self-discovery and inspiring yourself.   Instantly, your going to lose yourself within the music as the song makes the transition to “Warm It Up (With Love).”  The track lacks but for some reason it’s still so potent.

LISTEN: BRANDY – A CAPELLA

Tracks that are just amazing on the album are the following: “Camouflage,”  “Human,”  “Shattered Heart,” “Torn Down,” “True,” “Fall,” and everyones personal favorite “A Capella.”  Everyone’s personal favorite, “A Capella,” she delivers her sultry and amazing ad libs that everyone loves.  Nobody does ad libs like Brandy.  This album in its totality is the epitome of a solid project.  This is the album Beyonce attempted to achieve with “I Am,” part of her deluxe suite album, but failed to deliver.

LISTEN: BRANDY – CAMOUFLAGE

Overall, the album is a beautiful collection of songs that take you through an emotional, spiritual, and evolutionary process as a whole human being. This album is a great re-introduction for Brandy, however,  it’s not quite enough to bring her back blazing on the charts. Yet, it still doesn’t stop the fact that this album is beautifully constructed.  That’s more than enough of a reason for her to be proud of herself. Well done, Brandy.

Kanye West – 808′s and Heartbreaks – Dropped out of college. Then he re-enrolled, and, on his third album, finally graduated. Next, he was supposed to get a “good ass job.”

Instead, he had his heartbroken. With life, expect the unexpected. Kanye West has had one hell of a year. West’s first and only true love, his mother, Donda West, died from surgery complications. He’s been arrested twice after clashes with the paparzzi, and he even called it off with his fiancé, Alexis PhiferHe’s lived through blow after blow, and the album itself is a reflection of how reality can reflect art or vice versa.

So, with all that Kanye has been through thus far, it shouldn’t shock anyone that he shelved his original album titled, Good Ass Job, and recorded an album full of loss, vocal robots, and heartbreak.

LISTEN: KaNYE WEST – SAY YOU WILL

“Say You Will” opens up and the production is so dramatic and intense. We were overwhelmed just listening to West sing his pain. The album features artists such as Young Jeezy, Lil’ Wayne, and Mr. Hudson. West takes you on a roller coaster ride with auto-tuner and ridiculously addictive production. He even takes a few jabs at his ex, Alexis Phifer with lines like: “Just a spoiled little L.A. Girl” and “Who knew she was a drama queen that’ll turn my life to Steven King” and “You’re like the girl from Misery.” Certainly, he made sure she knew she did her part in his heartbreak.

Stand out tracks on the album include the following: “Paranoid,” “Robocop,” “Bad News,” “See You In My Nightmares,” and “Coldest Winter.”

LISTEN: KaNYE WEST FEAT. MR. HUDSON – PARANOID

Overall, the album album’s production is incredible. Kanye West never slips with the 808. However, this isn’t his best work but this isn’t taking away from the album. The album is enjoyable and is one hell of a banger.

If you’re ever feeling down and need some inspiration – Purchase, Purchase, PURCHASE!!! If you and your girlfriend or boyfriend break up – Purchase, Purchase, PURCHASE!!! If you lose a parent, guardian, etc – Purchase, Purchase, PURCHASE!!! If you can’t get those haters off your back – Purchase, Purchase, PURCHASE!!! If you find yourself saying, “Life isn’t fair.” This album is a must – Purchase, Purchase, PURCHASE!!! Kanye West gave us his pain and we’ll leave you all with, “Street Lights.”

LISTEN: KaNYE WEST – STREET LIGHTS

John Legend’s new album, Evolver, has been out for some time now, and everyone has been talking about it! “Green Light,” featuring Andre 3000 has been one of our favorite songs now for a minute. So, we had no other choice but to review the album. Producers that are featured on this project are Kanye West, John Legend, Malay, KP, Midi Mafia, Will.I.Am, Trevor Horn, Devo Springsteen, The Neptunes, Supa Dups, and Teddy Riley. The album has been considered to be John Legend’s most heavy pop influenced effort.

LISTEN: JOHN LEGEND – THIS TIME

The album opens up with “Good Morning,” a very classy and elegant introduction. “Green Light” slides in funky, loud, and raunchy, sounding like an over-the-top version of Paul McCartney’s “A Wonderful Christmas Time.” The track is unlike anything John Legend has done. It’s a little bit more aggressive sexually and Andre 3000 brings out the edge to the song.

LISTEN: JOHN LEGEND feat. Brandy – QUICKLY

“It’s Over,” featuring a broken-hearted Kanye West, follows. The break up song is rather simple, and it’s unlike the freshman and sophomore John Legend. With his latest effort, John Legend’s approach is a lot more forward and cut dry. “We lost the fourth leaf clover,” stated by Kanye West, who loves the vocal auto-tuner on this track. The song is simple but nonetheless refreshing to hear Legend. “Everybody Knows,” “This Time,” “Satisfaction,” “Take Me Away,” and “I Love, Love You” are smooth songs that are lovely. They aren’t quite the original John Legend you’re familiar with but these tracks definitely hit close.

LISTEN: JOHN LEGEND – SATISFACTION

One of our personal favorite tracks are “Quickly” featuring Brandy. And there is a mere bias on this track due to it being Brandy. We love Brandy’s voice because it’s alluring to me for it’s airy, breathy texture. “No Other Love,” featuring Estelle is a hard hitting song and would make an excellent single. The song is beautiful and it’s sampling a glitzy version of reggae. “Satisfaction” and “I Love, Love You,” are two other personal favorites.

LISTEN: JOHN LEGEND – I LOVE, LOVE YOU

Overall, the new John Legend album is a decent effort. John Legend hits the album to a decent side of the field, and everyone should be able to take something from it. This would definitely make a great Christmas gift. You should PURCHASE, PURCHASE, PURCHASE!!!!

Jive Records’ mega superstar Britney Spears is leaking like nobody’s business. Circus, is slated to be the official revival of the Pop Princess. The album’s official release date is December 2, 2008. This festive occasion not only marks the release but it is also Britney Spears’ birthday. Spears seems untainted with the downfall of one of the most powerful brand names to hit households. And after the release of Blackout, her most controversial, risk-taking, and unfulfilled in sales album to date. But fortunately, she’s picked herself up in a matter of months for her children’s sake. Blackout, being considered her laziest effort, delivered the most potent Spears material to be released. So, now that the Pop Princess is back on her P’s & Q’s, will she succeed with Circus? The album title itself was a clever spin to the reality she was living. Spears stated, “I was stuck in the middle of it all. It was just crazy.” With, all eyes on Britney Spears’ latest effort, does she deliver? With that being said…let’s see what I found out.

Circus has 19 tracks; six of which are bonus tracks. The producers that were involved with this project were Bloodshy & Avant, Benny Blanco, Danja Handz, Dr. Luke, Fernado Garibay, Greg Kurstin, Guy Sigsworth, Jim Beanz, Kelly Claude, Let’s Go To War, Max Martin, Nicole Morier, The Outsyders, and The Underdogs. LISTEN: BRitney Spears – Circus

The album opens up with “Womanizer.” I wasn’t very fond of this song due to the track being excessively repetitive. However, it has grown on me. The video wasn’t the best, but comparing it to her downfall videos during the Blackout era, this was definitely a step in the right direction. The video itself reminds me of a tribute to “Toxic.” The song was clearly directed towards Kevin Federline. The second song on the album is “Circus.” This track is f*cking blazing! The lyrics are beyond witty and the production is flawless. “Kill The Lights,” “Shattered Glass,” “If U See Amy,” “Unusual You,” “Blur,” “Mmm Papi,” “Mannequin,” and “Phonography” are all the instant songs that when you hear, you instantly gravitate towards them. It’ll be difficult for you to not find something about the production or lyrics to fall in love with because they’re easy classic pop songs. This proves that nobody does U.S. pop like Britney Spears. She effortlessly shimmers over pretty much every track.

LISTEN: Britney Spears – BLUR

The album itself is a solid and consistent project to follow behind Blackout. I love that they put “Radar” on the album as a bonus, but they should have included “Toy Solider” too!

LISTEN: BRITNEY SPEARS – MANNEQUIN

Overall, the album is excellent and would make for a great Christmas gift for just about anyone, although I must say the single selection could’ve been better. I just hope that there are at least 4 videos for this album excluding Womanizer.  The album is just so solid and pretty much one long single It’d be pointless for her label not to attempt to milk this situation due to her neglecting Blackout.  Don’t forget to: Purchase, Purchase, Purchase!!!!

Columbia Record’s leading superstar Beyonce (or Sasha Fierce) is days away from releasing, I Am…Sasha Fierce. The album is slated to be a double disk album with plenty of ballads and get busy tracks. Recently, I’ve had the opportunity to sit down and listen to the whole album. I’m still in disbelief that she gave, “Sasha,” a last name. It takes away from the aura of “Sasha,” being a diva. The cliche part is that “Fierce,” is an obvious outreach to her homosexual fanbase. Nonetheless, Beyonce brought just enough to keep her fans at peace with this project. When reviewing this album you must remember Beyonce stated, “I’ve recorded over 100 tracks for this project.” So, clearly this review is going to be critical.

LISTEN: Beyonce – Halo

DISC ONE: Beyonce opens up the project with, “If I were a Boy,” The track itself is an attempt to be critical on gender roles within relationships. Originally, when I heard the song, I wasn’t quite sure if I saw potentional within the song. However, the video brought this track to life. “Halo,” “Disappear,” and “Ave Marie.” are the ballads that stood out to me. And, I’ll be waiting for the, “Ave Marie,” video.

LISTEN: Beyonce – DIVA

DISC TWO: Beyonce opens up the second disc with, “Single Ladies,” which in my opinion sounds like a B’Day throw away. But, we’ll just pretend that Beyonce really did record 100 tracks. Simplicity really worked well for this video and it makes the song that much more potent. “Radio,” follows and I’m not quite sure about this track. In fact, I’ll just call it how I see it. This track is such a filler. “Diva,” has been referenced as the female version of, “A Millie,” and all I know is my friend went crazy when she listened to this track. So, Beyonce can definitely see this song as a huge single. “Sweet Dreams,” has been on the net for ages now but, it leaked as, “Beautiful Nightmare,” and I LOVE THIS SONG!!! The beat is very thriller-ish and I want her to make an extremely dark video for this song. “Video Phone,” was cool.

LISTEN: Beyonce – Sweet Dreams

OVERALL, the album was kind of a bland disappointment. The problem is that I expected so much from this beautiful, talented, and savvy young lady. Beyonce’s voice is magic to my ears but the issues I have with her is her material. Beyonce has the potentional and voice to at least put out one timeless album. She’s an amazing performer and has one of the best voices of our generation. But, does she want to be known for releasing mediocre music? The ballads were nice but nothing about them registered as classic. I definitely think the album is enjoyable and everyone should be able to take something from it, which is what I stated, from the jump Beyonce gave her fans just enough.

I feel no one can use the vocoder or vocalizer like him. With tracks like “Blowing Up“ featuring Ciara, “Therapy” featuring Kanye West, “It Ain’t Me“ featuring T.I. and Akon, it’s possible that any track on the album is potentially a hit single. Aside from his singles, “Can’t Believe It“ featuring Lil’ Wayne, “Chopped & Skrewed“ featuring Ludacris, and “Freeze“ featuring Chris Brown, you can smoothly flow into the album with a nice transition. You can truly listen to each song on the album without a skip besides the skits.

Although T-Pain collaborated with an A-list squad of artists, you should still get the T-Pain solo elements very well. On a track, “Karaoke“ featuring DJ Khaled, he disses everyone with the exception of Kanye West and Lil’ Wayne for using the auto-tune vocoder. He also lists the features of famous celebrity artists’ that he’d like in his “Superstar Lady“.

T-Pain delivered the hits on his own album, which shouldn’t come as much of a surprising seeing as he’s produced tons of hit-singles for many other artists. The rings on this album glimmer with gaudiness, but in a good way. Make sure you pick up and support the album THR33 RINGZ.

The jazzy, bluesy singer Jazmine Sullivan debuts “Fearlessly” with her 2008 release under J Records, Fearless. The album’s preceded by the Missy Elliott-produced single “Need You Bad”, which exudes a nice soulful, reggae feel.

Fearless can cite a few inspirations from Lauryn Hill, Brandy, Jill Scott, Mary J. Blige, Fantasia, etc. – at least that’s who I heard listening to the album from personal experience since those are all some of my favorite artists. A lot of the tracks that can be heard on Fearless are very big sounding and jaunty as far as production and some lyrical content.

Sullivan’s rhythmic raspy voice and arrangements are like that pleasurable cream sweetner or voice added that semi-perfect coffee or song. Fearless is highly relatable, highly enjoyable, highly buyable in my honest opinion.

My standout tracks on this album would be Salaam Remi-produced “Bust Your Windows” (which is also slated to be the next single), “My Foolish Heart”, “Call Me Guilty”, “Live a Lie”, and the very Brandy influenced “After the Hurricane”; I don’t know why but in some parts in this song I can picture Young Jeezy in the background saying his trademarked “Aye!” Also, single material in my opinion. Fearless in stores now, p-p-p-pick it uuuup!

I knew it would not be long before young music starlet Solange Knowles (aka Solange or Solo) got the chance to scholar in her own right with the new album appropriately entitled SoL-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams (Music World Ent./Geffen). Featured guest appearances on this project, both composition and production, include Bama Boyz, Bilal, Mark Ronson, and The Neptunes to name just a few.

Hadley Dreams is a jazzy tune composed of soul and blues to last a lifetime; to give you a general idea, some of Hadley Dream‘s tracks can cite old inspiration from Diana and The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis as far as production. Overall, Hadley Dreams is a bluesy, harmonic, melancholy — yet “When all is said and done, move on with stride“-type of record.

I think Solange has grown — not only as a singer — but also as a songwriter, it really shows, especially with the album Hadley Dreams; with sounds spouting from the 70s/80s, this album is like a groovy gem! I think Solange flourishes eclectically with this entire project and I am just so amazed of the talent spewing from this artist creatively as a whole.

My recommended track listens would have to be “T.O.N.Y.“, which is definite single material, “Would’ve Been the One“, “6′O Clock Blues“, “Dancing in the Dark“, “Valentines Day“, and the melodic “Cosmic Journey“.

As far as Lesson In Love‘s sound, the album cites many inspirations from the likes of your R. Kellys and Michael Jacksons with help from The-Dream and Tricky with some writing and production. So, I would say that the album genre is mostly made up of contemporary R&B. My track favorites are definitely “Girls Around the World”, featuring Lil’ Wayne, “Treat U Good“, “Love Making 101“, “Touched by an Angel“, and “I’m Wit It“. Make sure you go out and support Lloyd Aug. 4th (U.K.) and Aug. 5th (U.S.) by buying the album Lessons In Love!

KATY PERRY is ONE OF THE BOYS; officially debuting her album internationally on Capitol Music Group, Perry executes the new wave generation of music today with chart-topping hits like ‘? Ur So Gay‘ (G. Wells) and ‘? I Kissed a Girl‘ (L. Gottwald). One of the Boys is electro, it’s pop, it’s garage band, it’s everything! Collectively collaborating with such notable producers as Greg Wells and Luke ‘Dr. Luke’ Gottwald, among many others, it’s probable that this album would include no fillers! Ashanti is back with a new longly anticpated album, The Declaration. This album is not what I expected, but in a very good way. Ashanti has came out of the box and broaden her lyrics and melodies. This album is an R&B album but it’s an upbeat album that doesn’t give you a lot “ballads” which I feel would be a good thing especially listening to new music from Ashanti. I listened to Diddy‘s philosophy on new tracks. Ashanti definitely passed the “5 second rule”. Ashanti collaborated with many great producers on this new project. She’s worked with Kanye West, Jermaine Dupri, Akon, BabyFace, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, and more. The first single, “The Way That I Love You” which is still in heavy rotation on the radio was one of the hottest singles and videos of 2008. Some of the tracks on this album that stood out the most would be, “In These Streets”, “Things You Make Me Do” featuring Robin Thicke, “Good Good”, and “Shine”. This is a great return for Ashanti. If you haven’t picked up this album it’s now in stores on iTunes.

The album starts off as an innocent childlike melody then filters with a showery noise and Pharrell talking about vivid, nostalgic memories of when he was 7 years old … and … um … I’ll just leave it at that. Next the album cuts to “Everyone Nose (All the Girls Standing in the Line for the Bathroom)” and “Windows“; already I’m getting a groovy 80′s vibe.

Things start to speed up a bit with the rockish, hip-hop influenced “Anti Matter” and “Spaz,” one of my favourite tunes from this album. “Yeah You” is a nice, smooth midtempo joint a la “Sooner or Later,” though the ladder has its subtle high points. “Happy” is another favourite of mine; another rock tune. “Kill Joy” is enticingly suspenseful. “Love Bomb” is starry and stellar! “You Know What” and “Laugh About It” are some more tunes I favor from this album, they’re both rockable! Although Seeing Sounds wasn’t half bad, I felt that there were holes in the overall delivery compared to N*E*R*D’s previous work. And the ending did not do much for me at all I must say.

Young starlet Raven Symone released her fourth studio album this week, please make sure you go out and support her buying the album!! It features stellar production from Sean Garrett, who will also be dropping an album later on this year, Oak and Mario (of the Knightwritaz) and of course The Clutch!!

Lordy, I have to honest, I got a little worried about that Double Dutch Bus single, I know Raven getting her money but c’mon now … she is too grown! However, HOWEVER this album is the epitome of grown, sexy, WOMAN-she’s woman now. So yeah, that Double Dutch Bus single is misleading indeed, there are no kiddie Disney fillers — thank Baby Daniel‘s royal pimp hand!

Overall I would say Raven Symone’s new eponymous album is a good buy; and a nice birthday gift or something. There are a few bangers, with Sean Garrett, and some nice ballads. My favourite tracks would have to be Anti-Love Song, Love Me Or Leave Me, In Your Skin and Keep A Friend.

released through Columbia Records. The album will include the hot tunes Promise Ring featuring Ciara and I’m Grown, produced by Darkchild, featuring Bow Wow. On some tracks I thought there were a few holes; she sounded a bit shaky to me. With having said that the album was pretty decent to say the most. I love I’m Grown, Lay Back And Chill, and Girl Gone Wild – “shawty, you don’t need no soldier, what you think we going to war?” I see they added some new material! Although I liked the original version that leaked that’s the only part I like that they added. They could’ve kept all those unnecessary noises added to the updated version. Overall Tiffany Evans’ debut album is kind of like a show and tell effort, which is a nice thing, Tiffany shows lots of growth and tells you her story!

Mariah Carey has returned with her latest project appropriately titled E=MC2 (Island), the album hits all store markets April 15th so make sure you look out when it drops! Guest appearances include T-Pain, Damon Marley and Young Jeezy. Producers include T-Pain, Bryan Michael-Cox, Stargate and of course Jermaine Dupri. E=MC2 is exactly what the album represents, nothing short of the Emancipation of Mimi, and I think that it shows greatly throughout this project. There are mostly ballads on E=MC2; and some mid-tempos. Then you have classic, melodic magna opera which Mariah is known for, respectably. My favourite tunes from here would have to be Side Effects, Loving You Long Time, OOC and I Wish You Well. I have all of those on repeat the most! Ideally, I Wish You Well, for the simple fact that this is the Classic Mariah that I was mentioning about and the song itself spoke tremendous volumes. Overall I would say that E=MC2 is definitely buyable, listenable … er, um- “whip-able” (car listenable) if that’s a word. It’s just a fun, open and honest album much least like the Touch My Body video (which was JUST a video and wasn’t meant to be taken seriously!). I really enjoyed E=MC2 and I will definitely be getting my copy as soon as it comes out! Mariah, you know I got you! Please release Side Effects for me if possible, k? Diddy‘s Angel’s have returned to bring us another hawt-ass album, Welcome To The Dollhouse (Bad Boy/Atlantic), in stores March 18th 2008! Productions for this album will include, A to Z, Bryan Michael-Cox, Danja (and the Clutch), Runners – everybody! And appearances from Day26, Diddy, Missy Elliott and Rick Ross!

Welcome To The Dollhouse, in my opinion, is like a musical platter full of influences from 80′s/90′s pop and R&B to hip-hop and modern day dance tunes that fit into today’s genre. My favourite songs off the album are Bad Girl, Secret Place, Lights Out and Is Anybody Listening.

Gnarls Barkley returns with their sophomore album The Odd Couple (Atlantic), make sure you all pick up your copy April 8th, 2008! I’ve been turned onto Gnarls Barkley’s randomness (good random, though) when I first heard their single ‘Crazy’. Now, I’m extremely random, so soon I knew Gnarls Barkley would ultimately become one of my favourite bands ever. I still bump St. Elsewhere from time to time even now, just like I’ll be with this album soon :)

My current favourite tunes from this album, so far, are ‘Would-Be Killer’, ‘Open Book’, ‘Whatever’, ‘Blind Mary’, ‘Neighbors’ and ‘A Little Better’. If you liked St. Elsewhere you’ll love this album, it’s a little more darker, though; lots of soul and a little bit of funk. I love it long time! You can’t go wrong with GB.

The ‘Dogfather’, aka Snoop Dogg, returns strong, once again, with his ninth studio album appropriately entitled Ego Trippin’ (Doggystyle/Geffen); it hits stores everywhere March 11th so make sure you pick up a copy. Guest appearances on E.T. include Too $hort and Charlie Wilson, who is currently at work on his forthcoming project, amongst others.

Snoop Dogg’s album Ego Trippin’ is an exuberant magnum opus to me; probably Snoop’s most progressive work. I really enjoyed it. From the enticingly-addictive Redd-produced ‘Sexual Seduction’ to the rural-tribute to the late Johnny Cash. There are no fillers.

Janet ‘Mrs. Jackson’ Jackson returns with her new album Discipline (Island) hitting stores everywhere February 26th next week! I’m so exciting about this right now! Fans can most definitely expect ‘Classic Janet’ on this record, there are a lot of jams to look forward to, and I’m sure you all can’t hardly wait for it. I don’t know about you all but I would like to see Janet dancing again. You know? Those legendary, iconic moves she’s famous for! I think I might be getting what I’ve been waiting for finally! So far the pop-singer’s 2006 album I’m Not Dead (LaFace), a follow-up to 2003′s Try This (Laface), has been certified platinum in the U.S. and has done extremely well Australia, becoming the best-selling album of all time, certified 8x’s platinum, thus leading to the the most successful tour in the nation! Wow, you rock, Pink!

You guys can get your copy of I’m Not Dead Platinum Edition in stores now, the album will include all new bonus material, including four stellar new tracks and a DVD set of all videos from the album. If your wondering, all of this was released around December of last year. So yeah, I’m like a year late, but technically not — two months late! Hey, I loved this album ok! I think out of Ashlee, Lindsay, and P!nk’s latest albums I’d have to say P!nk rules out of the three. I went through all sorts of emotions with I’m Not Dead, I think that was the album that really related to me more so than the others.

Anyway my new favourites from this album has to be “I Have Seen The Rain” and “Fingers,” becos it reminds me of Britney Spears’ “Touch of My Hand”. But really, I love all of the new songs, matter of fact, the whole album! “Runaway,” “Cuz I Can,” “Who Knew,” “I Got Money Now,” all of them … “Runaway” probably the most. Any type of rebellion: I’m for. Even with N*E*R*D’s Fly or Die (Virgin) album — I was so ready to run away — I must have ran away 500 times in my mind already.

Whilst all the promotion of Maroon 5′s latest single release, ‘Goodnight, Goodnight’, they will be releasing a limited edition version of their platinum-selling album It Won’t Be Soon Before Long (Octone) released last year.

The limited edition M5 LP will include all sorts of new material and bonus (US, UK, iTunes) tracks for your listening pleasure like ‘Wake Up Call’ featuring Mary J. Blige. If you liked the original version of M5′s It Won’t Be Soon Before Long then I definitely recommend you downloading/picking up the limited edition. I said it before and I’ll say it again: Maroon 5 is frickin’ gold platinum in my book! They are possibly just one of my favorite bands out there and I’m sure they well accumulate a conglomerate of brand new fans in the coming year, with their tour, and the release of this album especially.

The new material, no different from the old, covers all the stress and abyss that comes with relationships. The production is melodic and alternative – which I adore – the sound M5 is famous for. I love all of the newly added bonuses but my ultimate favourites would definitely have to be ‘Infatuation’, ‘Losing My Mind’ and ‘Story’.

The King of all that is Pop, Michael Jackson, returns with Thriller 25, Thriller – 25th Anniversary Edition is a special 25th anniversary edition of the album Thriller by Michael Jackson. Thriller, released in 1982, was and still is the world’s best selling album to date. Michael Jackson not only started a trend but a phenomenon, influencing many artists for over a decade. If there were no Michael Jackson, there would be no Usher, Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, Sterling Simms, the list goes on and on. Michael Jackson will always be relevant in all that is pop, this is apparent, no if’s, and’s, or but’s about that.

You know, when I think about it too, I have always been more of a MJ lover than Prince (no disrespect, none, sir). Mike just has that charisma and stage presence about him, and yes I know your going to say, “but he doesn’t play an instrument!” FOOL! His body is an instrument! Just imagine Michael Jackson on stage with an “instrument,” it would be so, beneath him.

Anyway, I digress (somewhat, I lost myself). Oh! With this special edition of Thriller you can look forward to brand new material, including five remixes of original material featuring Akon, Fergie, Kanye West, and producer will.i.am ftw! Now, I have to admit, some of these songs they shouldn’t have messed with just for the fact of definitiveness. BUT I do love most of will.i.am’s work (“P.Y.T.” and “The Girl is Mine”) and Akon’s (“Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’”) mixes.

Lupe Fiasco returns with his sophomore effort Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool (1st & 15th, Atlantic) which hits stores December 18th, included with Fiasco’s new LP is the first single lifted “Super Star” featuring Matthew Santos and street single “Dumb It Down (which was made into a “virtual buzz” video on Youtube). Now you know I couldn’t wait for this album, ever since Food & Liquor I was hooked! I swear this man is underrated due to lackadaisical promo, every time I would listen to that album and say who’s it by people would be like, “who’s that?” Then I let them HOLD the album and they do not return it. I’m so serious, Fiasco is … the truth! His metaphors and approach are just so stellar and inspirational at the same time! Same case with his latest album, The Cool. I think it’s fairly up to par with F&L. My favourite tracks are “Gold Watch,” “Little Weapon,” “Superstar,” “Go Go Gadget Flow” and “The Coolest.”

The D R E A M – Love/Hate » Love Hate (Def Jam), or “Love Me All Summer, Hate Me All Winter,” is the debut album by singer and songwriter The-Dream. The album drops December 11 and will include the singles “Shawty Is Da Shed” and current single “Falsetto.” Most of the production for Love Hate was done by none other than Tricky Stewart and appearances by Fabolous and Rihanna of course. I really enjoyed Love Hate, it’s a vibrant album, I get this whole Prince + Dream + Dark Vadar + house + club vibe; meaning it seems he pulled some Prince inspirations and fused it with his own sound. I can literally play the whole album through and not skip one damn song becos that’s how much I love it! So I might have to go out December 11 and get me a copy!

Mary J. Blige // Growing Pains » Growing Pains (Geffen) is the name of MJB’s new studio album which hits stores December 18 and includes the hit single “Just Fine” produced by The-Dream and Tricky Stewart. The album starts off as this big celebration with the first single “Just Fine” that kind of gave me this Jackson vibe, I still think she shoulda got them on the remix or something, that’s a hot joint right there! Anyway GP continues to mid tempo and then to some real nice downbeat, classic ol’ school joints to say it best, that’s what it sounded like to me. Guest appearances for this LP includes Ne-Yo, Ludacris, and you know Mary had to get Usher on this project — he ripped that shed! Yes you should go get this album, the arrangements and production are pretty solid and Mary delivers as always! Two thumbs up! My favorites are “Roses,” “What Love Is” and “Come To Me (Peace).” AND “WORK THAT!” <3.

Blake Lewis // Audio Day Dream » Audio Day Dream (Arista), or A.D.D., is the name of American Idol’s runner-up Blake Lewis’ new album out right now, it includes the first single “Break Anotha” and a track featuring Lupe Fiasco entitled “Know My Name.” I was going crazy becos this album would NOT leak for anything, instead it appeared in full first within the “Free Full CD Listening Parties” section on AOL.com on December 3, the day before the album release! Those crafty bastards… Anyway, I digress (somewhat), but wasn’t disappointed with the overall delivery of Lewis second time around listening. It was some solid production and well put together arrangements for A.D.D. I was highly impressed. The album is like some retro 80′s, futuristic, sci-fi, dance-pop and r&b all fused together — I love it!

Bow Wow + Omarion // Face Off » Face Off (Columbia) is the new collaborative album by Bow Wow and Omarion that comes out December 11 and includes the first single lifted “Girlfriend.” Producers (in co-op with Bowmarion) include Rick Rubin, T-Pain and Jim Jonsin . I ain’t braggin but it’s iight… You know what? I ain’t even goin to lie there are a select few I liked for the production on both parts in particular. This was a good idea becos these two together are unstoppable on this project, Bow Wow delivers, Omarion’s vocals/ad-libs are incredible! As far as material, Face Off is very eclectic and differs highly from previous collaborations, Bowmarion are definitely on point second time around, this is sure to go gold first week (at least)! My favourite is “Listen,” which is like the boy version of Destiny’s Child “Girl,” and I like “Hey Baby (Jump Off)” cos it reminds me of an updated version of Ghost Town DJ’s “My Boo.” (that was my shit growing up!)

America Idol’s very own, Jordin Sparks, releases her eponymous debut effort next week Tuesday (November 20th) as well off of Jive records. The Idol’s album includes some crazy, stellar production from the likes of Stargate, with the first single ”Tattoo,” and The Underdogs.

My, my, my, despite critic’s frivolous claims towards Sparks’ efforts, this album isn’t half bad, for a debut, especially considering how young the Arizona-native actually is. I’m so, so proud of Sparks becos she has come a very long way, for the most part, she gets high praises from me.

Overall this album wasn’t anything I expected, but that doesn’t necessarily make it a bad thing, there was some wicked jams and unordinary downbeats. I don’t think fans, existing or potential, will be disappointed. Some of my favorites are “No Air,” “Freeze,” “Shy Boy,” and “Just For The Record”.

OneRepublic make their amassing debut with Dreaming Out Loud, set to be released November 20th off of Interscope and Timbaland’s Mosley Music Group, if your feeling any of the following material from them you should go out and pick up your copy.

With the mutual success of “Apologize” I found it cumbersome to get into this album, but after I got over the fact, it wasn’t so bad. In culmination with aesthetic arrangements this album had incredible rock ability I’d say. Production for this particular project include Ryan Tedder, Timbaland and Greg Wells on the group’s first official single lifted entitled “Mercy”.

Overall, for a debut, Dreaming Out Loud wasn’t so bad in my opinion. I think OneRepublic hit all the pro marks, respectively, for this album. An album I would definitely recommend for a solid buy. My favorite tracks, in no particular order, are “Apologize,” “Stop and Stare,” “Someone To Save You,” “Tyrant,” and “Won’t Stop”.

As I Am is the title of R&B songstress Alicia Keys’ forthcoming album set to be released November 13th off of J Records. Make sure you go pick it up once it hits stores! Or, you may pre-order it via clicking the album cover above! Well I recently had the chance to listen to the album today exclusively and I must say, this album is the shit! All I can say is growth, growth, GROWTH. Growth in vocals, harmonies, production team – everything! It’s some nice Downbeat and soulful ballads, hard breakdowns, stellar arrangements … I feel everything just comes into play with As I Am. This record is possibly, in my opinion, the R&B/Soul album of the year (material wise). I pulled a lot of my favorites from here, I heard some Prince, some Boogie (Mrs Hill), some Sam Cooke — this album brought me back to a state of nostalgia.

The soulfulness and richness is so uncanny in this day in age! Of course Keys adds her own uniqueness to sound, I surely wouldn’t doubt her much, I just appreciate her even more for this! She has definitely come a long way and you can tell by the dynamics in her powerhouse-voice! I still can’t figure out how she puts sooo much feeling into her projects, it’s almost chilling, she makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand! I’d play this album if I were painting or drawing or doing something artsy becos that’s the kind of influence this leaves.

My personal favorite tracks, and possible standouts, are “Like You’ll Never See Me Again,” “The Thing About Love,” “I Need You” and “Sure Looks Good To Me”.

Mr. Man-ish himself, Chris Brown, hits us with his latest Exclusive album, which is scheduled for release next month Tuesday (November 6th), it features guest appearances, as well as stellar productions, from the likes of T-Pain, will.i.am, Swizz Beatz, and Timbaland just to name a few.

The album starts off languid with consistent blandness.

I swayed this opinion towards the starting of a luring “You,” which gave off this Prince vibe to me, so ultimately, this was my favorite.

I wasn’t necessarily floored or in awe about the latter … BUT, I still enjoyed the album nonetheless. I was lackadaisical until “I’ll Call Ya,” (after hearing the snippet previously) I was quite interested in hearing the actual full to this, then I relapsed.

Overall Chris Brown’s Exclusive sounded like unmastered kiddie-Pop and not exactly what I semi-predicted. I was really rooting for Chris, I was. But I’m more so looking forward to Face Off at this moment. :SARCASM:

Standout tracks are “You,” “Damage,” “I Wanna Be” and “Down”.

Jay-Z returns with American Gangster. After nearly a decade the rapper is still going strong with his tenth studio album set to release November 6th in accordance with the film American Gangster, which is in theaters November 2nd.

American Gangster has some ultra solid productions from The Neptunes, including the single “Blue Magic” and “I know,” my favorite. Other productions from the album include Just Blaze, Jermaine Dupri and Mario Winans. This album is trill as f*ck, Hov definitely wasn’t lying about taking it back to the Reasonable Doubt, lyrical wise, I think this can be Reasonable Doubt‘s latter. I cannot stop playing “Pray” and “Success” among others. I feel like this album is relative in so many ways, this is seeming proof that you can come from rags to riches in due time and Shawn Carter has paid all of his. Period.

Pop legend Britney Spears returns with her fifth studio LP, Blackout, in stores October 30th – but you can pre-order it via the link (barcode) above or HERE!

I did not want to post any leaked material before, like everyone else, because I was assured they were all incomplete for the simple fact they were not mastered. So I relapsed and was pleasantly surprised after hearing the retail. Britney fans can expect a host of new material added! ;-)

Now, on the the album review! I heard a lot of stellar Dance-pop and Club variations — thanks to Danja (love his work), Bloodshy & Avant, Sean Garrett, and The Clutch! Although some of Sean’s arrangements are a tad bit questionable (he can not write for crap, I am sorry.) I have not many cons to rant on and on about … I will save that for Cassie’s album (KIDDING!). Overall Blackout is FUN and lively! I was nodding and shaking … thank God I do not dance in public! Ha ha, but forreal, the music ultimately moves you in the beginning, then it sort of culminates with Downbeat (that would only be a few songs – rest of the album goes HARD in the club!). In conclusion it all boils down to whether you are a true fan of the Pop superstar — would I recommend it as a solid buy? Of course … I am a Britney Spears fan! :-)

Forgot to say my personal favorite tracks are “Get Naked (I Got A Plan),” “Freakshow,” “Hot As Ice” and “Perfect Lover”!

Platinum selling recording artist Mario returns with his third studio effort entitled Go! in stores Oct-uh … November 27th … ??? Despite the constant letdowns and frequent post-pones from Mario’s label – I, surprisingly, enjoyed the album. I heard some ultra sweet arrangements and solid production; that including The Neptunes, Stargate, Timbaland and Ne-Yo. Both erotic AND eclectic, Go! reached systemic volumes, the album had some great Uptempo and Downbeat on it. Standout tracks from the LP, in my opinion, are “Go”, “Crying Out For Me”, “Why” and “Right And Wrong Way”.

Jennifer Lopez drops her fifth English album, Brave, next week. The album features the singles “Do It Well,” including the remix with Ludacris, and “Hold It, Don’t Drop It”.

I was highly disappointed. Believe me, I’m a big fan of Jennifer Lopez, but this was little to no effort.

Overused samples, shot vocals, poor editing … I think, with Lopez, everything fell short into blandness.

BOTTOM LINE: Over all, I wasn’t impressed at all. Brave was very lackluster and not enough BOOM KAT! Jennifer Lopez’s new album Brave hits stores October 9th, buy at your own will.

WILL.I.AM – “ONE MORE CHANCE”

will.I.am’s new album, Songs About Girls, drops on September 25; the LP includes the single “I Got It From My Mama”. I’m not all that crazy about the song, production wise, being the first single. But I am glad it’s doing pretty well on the charts, to say the least. Anyway, some other great productions include both Polow Da Don and Fernando Garibay; Snoop Dogg is the only guest artist featured.

If you are an avid party goer, into Club and everything in between, this album is for you basically! This is my kind of music, as predicted, my favorites originally were “Get Your Money,” “The Donque Song,” and “Fantastic”. But after listening to the album in its entirety “Heartbreaker,” “Make It Funky,” and “One More Chance” (possible second single) are all standout tracks to me. Overall will.I.am’s Song About Girls is Fun, Funky and Futuristic! You’ll love it!

Keyshia Cole returns with her sophomore project, Just Like You, in stores September 25 The album will include the smash “Let It Go” featuring Lil’ Kim and Missy Elliott and the Darkchild-produced single “Shoulda Let You Go”.

It has definitely been a while since that real genuine R&B feel, like with Cole’s 2005 debut The Way It Is, I still bump that album every now and then. It was one of those records that you really got into, relatively. And I think that’s the case with Just Like You, as I always say, “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”. I think everything happens for a reason, I’m a firm believe of that, like people are just destined to do what they do. Again, the case with Keyshia. Her talent is just incredible, effortlessly. Some how she keeps me running back, eager to hear new material and growth — this album is just that! Smooth, overflowing ballads, adjacent to vocals, drifting throughout the whole LP; some old school Mary J. Blige mixed with Anthony Hamilton — matter of fact he was featured on this lovely song called “Loosing You”. I have no idea why they added Diddy’s but on here, with “Last Night” like it’s all new, but then again that was a pretty hot joint too! I don’t know what it is but I never get tired of that song, even the remix and that’s very rare with Diddy’s remixes <_<

Chamillionaire’s Ultimate Victory hits stores September 18, guest appearances include Krayzie Bone, Lil’ Wayne, Slick Rick and UGK; producers J.R., Play-N-Skillz, and The Runners. I really enjoyed this album, everything is so relative, and I think that’s always the case with Chamillionaire as far as approach. Chamillionaire is deep, lyrically on point, holmes did the damn thing. Oh, what a surprise! 50 Cent’s Curtis leaks! LOL. Curtis is the third studio album by 50 Cent set to release September 11th :coughGRADUATIONcough: The album features some amazing guest appearances from Robin Thicke, Eminem, Nicole Scherzinger and G-Unit’s own Young Buck. As for production, like Kanye, 50 also did some executive work on his LP; other producers include Dr. Dre, Eminem, and Timbaland. I will admit, listening to the clean version makes me want to buy the album even more, it was a couple tracks on it I liked. Dang, so that means I gotta save up for more than a DUB come 9/11?

Well, it was bound to happen . . . please do not jump on me, as I am a Kanye West fan also, the album just didn’t leak itself! :coughKANYEcough: He knows what he’s doing . . . all in do time. Anyway, Mr. West hits us with his third LP, Graduation, which hits stores September 11th! Make sure you get it, cos I know I am, I give this album 5.55555555555555 stars joe! Where oh where do I begin? OK, let me start with guest, lol, appearances on this album include T-Pain, Lil’ Wayne, Mos Def, and Singer/Songwriter Dwele! Production by Kanye West, who also executive produced, DJ Premier, DJ Toomp, and Jon Brion. The Chi town rapper’s album features the hit “Stronger” and the upcoming third single, with T-Pain, “Good Life” (included below). My recommended listens are “Champion,” “Everything I Am,” “Big Brother,” and my all time favorite “Good Life” :sigh:
