You’re going to hear a lot this year about how, at some point in 2012, the world is going to end. That we will all, in some way or another, wound up gone, destroyed, burned, eaten, smashed to pulp or, if we’re really lucky, a combination of the lot.

We’ll be fine, of course, but they’re going to say it anyway. Here’s why.

The first time most people will have come across this prophecy is courtesy of 2009 movie 2012, a film in which the planet is torn asunder and only John Cusack and giant space boats survive. It’s complete rubbish, of course, but the theory underpinning the movie is a very real one, based on the fact that in December 2012 (December 21, to be exact) an entire cycle of the Mayan calendar, one which has run for around 5000 years, comes to an end.

The calendar, actually known as the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar (it wasn’t just the Mayans using it), doesn’t work like ours. So there’s no January 2011, then January 2012, and so on and so on. It ran in enormous cycles, called b’ak’tuns, and this December we reach the end of the thirteenth b’ak’tun recorded on the calendar, which also coincides with the end of a larger “world age”, which can last for around 5000 years.

While for most Mesoamericans this simply meant the end of an age, and maybe even cause for celebration (similar to the “millennium madness” in 2000), others with a more pessimistic view on life have constructed something else out of the phenomenon. In recent years various spiritualists, crackpot astrologists and other well-wishers of apocalypse have latched onto the date and foreseen that it means the end of the world, supported by little but fantastical theories of planetary alignments and phantom planets.

Basing their predictions on doomsday writings from Columbus and poorly-translated and agenda-riddled works from 19th century European scholars, there are now numerous possible theories as to how and why the world will end in 2012, when this Mayan calendar rolls over and kills us all.

The most popular of these include the appearance and subsequent collision with Earth of a planet called Nibiru, the spontaneous reversal of Earth’s magnetic field (which was expanded upon in the movie 2012) and our alignment with a black hole in the centre of our galaxy somehow managing to destroy us all.

Those theories are, in order, implausible, optimistic (such reversals can take thousands of years to take place) and out of date (we passed that alignment over a decade ago). Mayan scholars also want no part of them, pointing out that in actual Mayan history and records – not those cooked up by Westerners centuries after the fact – there’s no mention of an apocalypse coinciding with the end of the calendar cycle whatsoever.

Still, believers (and the media) aren’t going to let science get in the way of a good story, so you can bet as December rolls around you’ll see more than a few nutjobs on your local TV news buying tinned food and batteries.

Unless you’re mad or extremely gullible, leave them be. What you may find more interesting than doomsday preparations, though, are the number of popular works of media that join the Mayans in predicting the end of the world, in one way or another, during 2012.

TV show The X Files , for example, is faithful to the Mayan calendar theories, in that one of the key storylines running throughout the series, that of government conspiracies and aliens, comes to a head in December 2012 with the alien colonization of Earth.

Also closely aligned with the Mesoamerican calendar are two gaming properties. Shadowrun, the popular role-playing game franchise, (which has in turn been adapted several times into a video game), is based on the end of the Mayan age and beginning of another – on December 21, 2012 – marking the return to Earth of magic forces, an event that makes Shadowrun one of the most compelling and unique properties going around.

Blockbuster video game series Assassin’s Creed does something similar. All four major games in the series have been set in some way or another in 2012, with the player controlling an Assassin in the historic order’s fight against the Knights Templar. It’s suggested that the series’ story ends on December 21, 2012, with gamers having to race to stop the end of the world.

So if you’re up into the wee hours on December 20 this year and want something more enjoyable (and poignant!) to do than watch crazies prepare for the end of the world, there are plenty of good movies, TV shows and games around to keep you entertained.

Like our friends from The Cynical Ones, we noticed how Ciara politely swagger jacked a few of Beyonce‘s videos. If you still haven’t peeped Ciara and Justin Timberlake‘s brand new video for “Love, Sex, Magic” then click here to do that, then come back to this post. And even if you haven’t, the pictures and Mike’s write-up speak for themselves:

The premise of Ciara’s “Sex Love Magic” video is basically look at the kitty kat diva in her freakum dress getting bodied trying to be Justin Timberlake’s suga mama.

While I’m sure her intentions were to get me to focus on how sexy she is and forget how mediocre her material has been thus far, all I can think about after watching this is how much of a wack ass she is. This video looks like a tribute to the Beyonce anthology, and while Beyonce is not an originator by any stretch at least when she jacks something she makes it her own — which is what you’re supposed to do when you bite.

Wait, that bears repeating before anyone tries to drill that point home in the comments section:
Beyonce may bite, Alicia may steal, and Rihanna may have bought all of Fefe Dobson’s clothes at a garage sale, but they’re all much better actresses than Ciara.

All of them have sold sex (yes, even Alicia, too), but it never reeked of desperation.

Her fusing Beyonce’s video treatments with Madonna’s old hoe shit bit doesn’t seem like a woman embracing her new found sexuality. I think she looks like a prostitute trying to score a hit before her pimp puts her back on the street. I find her pathetic in every sense of the word.

She’s like that girl in high school that tried too hard that everyone ends up laughing at. I don’t doubt for a second that if every other popular singer out there shot videos of them in winter coats on the beach she’d toss on a Northface and proceed to do pull-ups on some monkey bars just to sweat a little more than the other girls out.

The interesting thing about her is that she’s doing everything antithetical to what made her relevant to begin with. In an attempt to appeal to a pop audience, she’s alienating the people who pushed to platinum status. I would know, because I bought her first album. Then she came out with that pretentious evolution-themed album (who experiences that great an evolution in two years?) and her music went to shit.

Maybe if she focused on her music as much as she did her ever changing image and sound she wouldn’t be reduced to doggystyle positions and rubbing her ass cheeks on Justin Timberlake for a cheap hit. I thought this chick was supposed to be a great dancer anyway. How do you put Justin Timberlake in a video and not have any extensive choreography? Wasn’t her being some supposed great dancer what separated her from the other singers reduced to dip it, pop it, twirk it stop it dance routines?

Some feel I’m being too hard on her. I think the problem is I know Ciara had way more successful when she was seeking to give folks blue balls instead of full fledged hard-ons.

Far too many people rely on sex to sell forgetting one important fact: Thanks to the internet we can see hoes all day for free. In the end, she can get attention for this, and she’ll even score a modest hit for letting Justin the Negro career killer do the track, but what’s next?

Will she throw Lil’ Wayne on the next single and flash her lips in the video? Her Fantasy Ride is going to resemble that US Airways flight that landed in water.

So I was perusing the internets this evening, and stumbled upon a post by our friends over at That Grape Juice that mentioned a certain “mystery singer,” whose name is “Sasha Fierce.” So who is she? She has an official website and an official MySpace page, and if she is who we think she is … she released two brand new videos over the weekend (IIWAB & SL).

Once you get to the MySpace page, you see a myspace page that has a default picture resembling a “robotic arm” – that’s what I see … is she gonna wear that robotic suit-looking thing she wore at the BET Awards on the sasha fierce part of the album? – and influences that list words like “Music, Life, Love, Empowerment, Beauty, Passion and Strength.” Beyonce’s new album is apparently titled “I Am…” and if you look at the center of the page, you see a store with t-shirts, and a few of the shirts read “I AM FIERCE.” So is this Sasha Fierce person Beyonce’s alter ego? Will Beyonce be pulling a Nelly and dropping two albums on the same day a la “Sweat Suit?” I mean, she did release two brand new songs with two new accompanying videos within the same seven-day period.

With all of these artists putting on sweatsuits, battling themselves and introducing alter egos, I’m beginning to question their sanity. Anybody remember “T.I. vs. T.I.P.?” or “Black Ty,” Tyrese’s alter ego?. And we can’t forget about Sean “Puffy” Combs, Puff Daddy, Puffy, Diddy, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Sean, John and Sean John. Are they serious? Apparently so!

Today marks the 7th anniversary of the untimely death of Aaliyah Haughton, a popular female R&B singer who had a music career spanning from the mid-nineties all the way up until the year 2001, when she was suddenly taken away from us due to a faulty airplane engine and an overloaded cabin. Ironically, a few days prior to today, a new video from Cassie was released. And within the first few seconds of watching the video I could point out elements of Aaliyah’s style right off. I didn’t even have to look that hard.

Now, don’t get me wrong. Cassie is a pretty girl. No, let me take that back. Cassie is a VERY pretty girl. I’ve always said that she should stick to modeling and just leave the singing thing along because I can never take her seriously as a singer/entertainer. I’m sorry, but that’s just the way it is. But the fact that the people behind her are even CONSIDERING molding her into a 2008 version of Aaliyah is appalling and a little heartbreaking, with me being a huge Aaliyah fan back in the day and all. I posted a few candids of Dawn & Que last week and posed a question. With Beyonce and Jay-Z we have “Jayonce.” With Chris Brown and Rihanna we have “Chrianna.” Now, with Dawn & Que making their rounds as a couple, what the hell should we call them? Well, a couple of our loyal readers came up with some great suggestions that the rest of us can vote on! I’ll leave this poll up for about a week, and the nickname with the most votes is what we over here at T2W will call them. Let’s see how far this catches on, and once it does, you’ll know where it started ;-)

Jennifer Lopez is adding a masculine scent to her portfolio this September, for the very first time. Following the spring/summer release of Deseo for Women, J.lo had began advertisement for her new scent, Deseo for Men. J.lo recently said:

“I wanted to capture the intimate and personal nature of a man who is sexy, yet strong,” Lopez says. “We are always looking to create something new and exciting, and one thing that I had yet to do was a men’s fragrance.”

When asked to describe the scent of the cologne J.lo said:

It has “top notes of lemon, red berries and cedar leaf; a heart of tobacco leaves, guaicwood and orris, and a drydown of sandalwood, cedarwood, patchouli, amber and vanilla.

The collection comprises eaux de toilette in two sizes, 1.7 oz. for $45 and 3.4 oz. for $55; a 3.4-oz. aftershave balm, $40, and a 2.4-oz. deodorant, $16. The bottle is a carbon gray version of the Deseo for Women bottle. According to the designer the cologne bottle Is intended to represent how diamonds are created.

This will be J.Lo’s seventh installment to her fragrance line and the first men’s scent on the line.

Kimora Lee Simmons launched her third fragrance following Goddess and Golden Goddess; it is called Fabulosity, which is also the title of an advice book she has written. The perfume which is said to be “more explosive and passionate” than the Goddess perfumes was created by perfumer Yann Vanier of Givaudan. It has been described as fruity oriental.

When asked to describe the scent of the perfume Kimora described it as:

Juicy plum, orange blossom, tiger lily, Chinese osmanthus, coconut, honey, amber, and vanilla all in a little fabulous diamond.

The bottle is designed after over-size round-cut diamonds that Kimora Lee Simmons like to collect and use for decoration in her house.

Former child star Gary Coleman and his wife of seven months Shannon Coleman recently taped an episode on “Divorce Court” in hopes to save their marriage.

In an interview with “Entertainment Tonight”, Shannon admitted that she has had enough of her husbands tantrums.

“If he doesn’t get his way, he throws a temper tantrum like a 5-year-old does.”

while Gary insists his wife doesn’t listen to him

“If I have to throw something or break something, that’s what’s going to happen.”

Gary and Shannon did not get “divorced” but instead were asked the couple to return to divorce court in six months for an update hearing.

Sean and John are identical twin tap dancers. At age 6 they started training with tap master tapper Alfred Desio at The Colburn School of Performing Arts in Los Angeles and have been tap dancing together professionally since age 8. The energy and originality they bring to their performance is unbelievable! They have a unique combination of the traditional style of the past and hip-hop style of today.

They have been featured on several television shows/commercials including NBC’s American Dream, The People’s Choice Awards performing with Tony Danza, The Tonight Show, The Apollo, The Roseanne Show, 30 Seconds to Fame, The 2004 MTV Video Music Awards 04 performing with Nelly and Christina Aguilera, America’s Got Talent (semi-finalists), TV Azteca’s “Quien Tiene Estrella” (finalists), Target/Converse Campaign, Dance Fever, and they have worked with Prince, Usher, Stevie Wonder and many more.

Before I call it a night and take my ass to bed (I have class in the morning and it’s damn near 1 AM lol). I just have one burning question: Did Prince, Rihanna, and Alicia Keys share the same hair stylist for the night?

Okay, so I’m browsing through Getty Images looking for photos to post of various celebrities arriving at tonight’s 50th Annual Grammy Awards. Then I come across this photo tagged GERALD LEVERT. And I’m thinking to myself, “Isn’t Gerald Levert dead?” But I can’t get mad. This happens a lot. I can recall on several occasions when I’ve been browsing through Wire Image, and have come across a photo of some guy and they have the tag as “Chris Brown” or “Bow Wow.” Or they might even have Chris Brown tagged as Bow Wow, or vice-versa! And what’s even more ironic, is that Sandra Rose recently posted on her blog about an incident similar to this one where a photographer at Wire Image mistakenly named a performer “Keyshia Cole.” I mean, people do make mistakes, but in my opinion, if you’re going to be a respectable photographer, you should at least know your subject(s). And if you’re going to be taking photographs at an event like the Grammys, you should at least know simple things like … oh duh, Gerald Levert is dead, and has been dead for over a year now. Very disrespectful…

I’m so thrilled, much to everyone’s horrific disappointed, the New York Giants won Super Bowl XLII! What-what! EVERYONE knows (or should know) that THEY were truly the underdogs, so I’m surprised at how people claimed that the New England Patriots would win, but not really. Undefeated don’t mean shit!!!!! Bwahahahahahaha! Tryin to find a damn video so that we may relive the moment – Youtube where ya at?

Beyonce’s apparently a legend when it comes to Connect 4, haha. According to Kanye West’s latest blog post, playing Connect 4 while on tour in Europe helped him to zone out a bit. And last night at Jay-Z’s new 40/40 club in Las Vegas, he got a chance to play the legendary Beyonce, who beat homeboy 9 times in a row! But he was able to get a win though, and of course he had to document the once-in-a-lifetime occasion with a photo! At first, I really could not believe it — M.I.A. artist of the week — dubbed by MTV. Weren’t they the ones who tried to get her banned though? Whatever the case, I’m really happy, becos she truly deserves the recognition. I believe she is one of the many underdogs of this industry, so you can’t even imagine how I felt about this. Ne-Yo called in to Big Tigger’s radio show on 95.5 yesterday to speak on the craziness surrounding the Double Up tour with he and R Kelly. As we reported yesterday, he was dropped from the tour and he cleared the air and talked about the REAL reason why he was dismissed. Ne-Yo went on to say that he still has respect for R Kelly as an ARTIST, but as a person … some (if not, all) respect has been lost. And I don’t blame him! Let me sum it up for you:

So he’s not trying to start any beef, he’s just speaking the truth. No harm in that right? I’d like to hear what Kellz has to say about this. And we have YET to hear Keyshia’s side to the story. Ne-Yo’s the only one being real with us.

Did yall hear about the interview with hot97 and bow wow.. Well make a long story short.. Bow wow was dissin ciara and 50 and 50 was in the buildin of Hot 97 heard what bow wow was sayin. I mean Bow was actin mad tuff before 50 went upstairs to where he was and bow wow was in shock.. how about 50 made bow wow say sorry and re say all good things in place of the bad things he said about them,… it was so funny, then bow ended the interview.Also on the wendy williams experience, bobby valintino was sayin how he doesnt like Black girls who are brown skinned and syain thats why he always has light skin girls in his video because the “dark” girls look dirty.. it pissed me off to know end but he needs to be put on blast , i have a anti bobby thing going on now.. but check all this info out cause its all true and a lil funny.

Kelly Rowland made an appearance on popular radio show “The Wendy Williams Experience.” This interview is effin hilarious!! I love listening to interviews on this show because Wendy is so damn ruthless! They were really doggin my girl, but she held her own. I do disagree with one thing Kelly said though. She would do so much better with anyone other than Mathew Knowles managing her career. But that’s just me… Check out the interview below!
