At a politically correct prep school in Washington DC two girls – one black, one white – go “Toe to Toe.”

Jesse (Louisa Krause) is a privileged but troubled white girl whose slutty tendencies pull her towards self-destructive behavior. And Tosha (Sonequa Martin) is a fiercely determined African-American from Anacostia, one of D.C.s most impoverished areas. Both new seniors and star players on their schools lacrosse team, the two girls click despite their differences.

Their fledgling friendship begins to falter when they discover their shared interest in Rashid, a dashing Lebanese deejay. Things unravel further when Tosha and Jesse have a shoving match on the lacrosse field and racist graffiti appears on Tosha’s locker soon after. Jesse is expelled from school and spirals deeper into self-destructive behavior. Surprisingly, it is Tosha who comes to her rescue. Jesse then returns the favor by sacrificing her own well being for that of Tosha’s. And so the two girls, once mired in mutual hatred, become each other’s salvation.

Mickey Rourke and Megan Fox star in Mitch Glazer’s remake of “Passion Play.” In the film Fox will be playing a angel type creature, only wings no halo, who is imprisoned by a ruthless gangster and placed on display. The circus freak/damsel in distress is to be saved by a washed up trumpet player who’s seen better days, Rourke’s character.

Check out the latest  photo from the set of Passion Play, currently filming in downtown Albuquerque , NM. And yes this is a love story but Fox promises it won’t be the typical one despite the fact that it looks like they’re about to kiss. I just got finished watching Push…… Not what I was expecting. I mean I have a fatal attraction to movies so I’ll watch just about any of them, but this one is pushing it… The plot takes a while to develop and characters pop up all over the place. Honestly the whole “superhuman race” and “being hunted by some super secret agency” reminded me of “Jumper.” I found myself drifting in and out of consciousness during this movie, though the actors did do a good job in making the film actually worthwhile and a bit bearable.

Djimon Hounsou, Dakota Fanning, the always sexy Ming-Na, and Chris Evans all gave outstanding performances. It just goes to show that a good movie needs both a good plot as well as a good cast. Don’t get me wrong the film was decent but that’s it. It was jus “decent.” So if you have nothing else to do with one of your evenings, why not watch it? It’d probably be a good waste of time. That being so, I gotta give this one a 5.5/10.

Director Christopher Nolan, responsible for “The Dark Knight” and  “The Prestige,” has yet again come to amaze audiences as he redefines the meaning of having an overactive imagination and sketches out the architecture of the mind. “Inception,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page, Ken Watanabe, and Marion Cotillard, is a Sci-Fi adventure deep into the mind where the creativity of the imagination becomes powerful enough to reconstruct cities, potent enough to charter change through out the world and in the most dire conditions, it has the strength to change the rules.

Two outlaws, serving justice one mechanical liver at a time, long time friends Remy and Jake had finally reached success in their lives making good money, thought it wasn’t the dream job they were happy with their place in life so far. But just when it all seemed too good to be true, an unforeseen accident puts one of the lone rangers in a compromising position. As it goes in the wild the wounded predator becomes the prey, the hunter turns into the hunted and in this case the doctor becomes the patient. Now on the run from what he used to be, the Repo Man has to fight to keep his life from being repo’d.

The moment has finally come! The legendary Jackie Chan has stepped up to fill the shoes of everyone’s favorite mentor Mr. Miyagi in the Columbia Pictures remake of “The Karate Kid.” Chan will team up with up and coming actor Jaden Smith in the remake of the wax on wax off phenomenon.

Keeping the overall plot the same, Director Harold Zwart has added a modern twist to the timeless classic about a boy who has to find the inner strength to stand up for himself and do what’s right. This time around it is the student who is in the foreign land taking the fight to the Do-Jo’s of  China. “The Karate Kid” hits theaters on June 11, 2010.

HANDS DOWN, “Avatar” is the best adventure movie I have every seen and very well most likely to be Best Picture of the year. Avatar is a majestic epic in its class, taking you on a journey deep into an alien world where mankind and alien throw down in an classic clash of Cowboys vs Indians; A visual  phenomenon with breath taking CG effects that captured an earthy final fantasy type world full of life, strange creatures, exotic plants, and an intoxicating spectrum of color and movement to the slightest detail. No wonder I was glued to the edge of my seat for the entire 2hr and 4min wishing the end would never come.

Starting off rather fast paced, the film gets straight to the point, with the main character Jake Sully having embarked on a journey that would change his life. On course to the planet Pandora, the epic begins with Sully learning about his Avatar body that he will use to walk among the alien population, an experience that seems quite futuristic no doubt.

The company he works for seek a precious rock that is found on the strange planet, worth unmeasurable amounts of wealth. But one of the aliens most sacred and spiritual places rests on top of the mineral deposit, causing an epidemic and war. Forced with a decision the native alien species must decide if they will cooperate with their foreign invaders or stand and fight (Bow and Arrows vs Machine Guns) in an epic display of how savage invaders who’ve fallen corrupt to greed will destroy everything, including the innocent, to get what they want.

Meanwhile Sully has to face himself. Does he betray the company who hired him, his people, or will he watch the newly found love of his life and all that she loves burn to the ground over money? The question that will change the fate of two world collided.

Director Brian Baugh has teamed up Writer Jim Britts to give the world To Save a Life, the story of a high school athlete whose life faces a dramatic change when the suicide of a childhood friend opened his eyes to the realization that the pains of popularity that rules the high schools social rankings are no longer worth the price of admission.

I’m not gonna lie this one took me by surprise, but I can truly appreciate the concept.  I had a friend in high school who was the weird, outcast, suicidal type and of course I had to be his o-n-l-y. He was the double jointed always stretching type and everyone thought he was gonna blow up the school or something. Go figure. One day he just stopped coming to school and was never heard from again, no surprise there huh?

But back to the saving lives, young and rising actors Sean Michael (Akeelah and the Bee), Arjay Smith (The Day After Tomorrow) and Randy Wayne (The Haunting of Molly Hartley) star in this emotional adaptation. Showing that no matter how out their someone is a life is a life all the same.

Look for  To Save a Life in theaters January 22, 2010.

Ever since I was a young child Pixar has made a lasting impression with each of their animated masterpieces, so its no surprise that UP exceeded the award winning standards that Pixar’s delivered film and film again.

This time around Pixar not only managed to take the audience on a ride full of emotion, humor and visual amazement, they did it in 3-D. Equip with a ticket stub and a pair of 3-D glasses both adult and child alike experienced the wonders of the South American terrain, the heartache in an old mans tale, the innocence of a child’s ambition, the predictable mind of a dog and the excitement of an epic adventure.

The adventure begins with the life of  Carl Fredricksen, a 78 year young man with a heart thriving full of adventure. Along with his childhood companion turned wife Ellie they devoted their life of happiness to finding their South American  promise land Paradise Falls. But soon the burdens of life began to bear down the two lovers with adventure pumping through their veins. The days grew shorter and time moved faster and before they knew it a life time had passed them by, old age set in and Carl was forced to live out his days alone with only the lasting memory of Ellie  and her unfilled scrap book dedicated to adventure, their colorful home and the need to pursuit ones childhood dream during their final years.

Carl’s adventure first begins in his later years, after being anchored by the burdens of life Carl is living the rest of his days in the slow lane unwilling to adjust to the fast pace of the common era. Faced with the difficult decision of giving into the new generations expectations or living the dreams they he once shared with the love of his life, Carl transforms his house into a air ship with its primary lift supplied by a colossal number of balloons and sets off to find Paradise Falls. Rendered with eye popping 3-D effects the home turned air ship drifted across the screen as the audience watched with amazement, hands down this was some of the best animation work that I’ve ever experienced.

The new “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” movie is definitely worth a look! This adaptation of the X- Men story is the best so far. All the mysteries are finally revealed in this one as director Gaven Hood takes us on a ride though the haunting and troubling past of Wolverine, explaining everything from his solid antemium core to the origins of his name, and even his unexplainable memory loss. As if answering all the cliffhanging questions about Wolverine wasn’t enough, Hood managed to intertwine the past of Wolverine with that of other mutants such as Sabertooth, Gambit, Night Crawler, Deadpool, Beak, Blob and even Cyclops.

In the movie, Wolverine attempts to live life as regular as possible, despite his mutant abnormalities. Alongside his brother, Victor Creed, Wolverine  leaves the protection of his family and home to a life more suitable for people of his kind: a life of blood and killing. Wolverine and his brother, both having similar mutant powers, placed their slash marks throughout history as they fought in countless wars, spilling blood from  The Civil War to the second World War. But even war couldn’t keep the animals roaming inside them contained. Eventually they were recruited by a special  military operation headed by William Stryker, that required the special abilities of certain mutants.

Worn out by all the killing and bloodshed, Wolverine gives up his life of violence to live out his days in a more peaceful way. Unaware of his girlfriend’s telepathic ability, he was manipulated into participating in a program called Mutant X program, a program designed to genetically produce mutants with multiple strengths but none of the personality weaknesses. In other words, the perfect solider to combat the mutant infestation.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is the complete package, having equally impressive acting and CGI effects. Even the supporting actors played their role as if they were trying to win Oscars. The cast includes Hugh Jackman, Will.i.am, Ryan Reynolds, Liev Schreiber, Lynn Collins, Taylor Kitsch, Daniel Henny, Kevin Durand and more. Overall, this movie, hands down, is one of the best so far this year.

X-Men Origins is set to hit theaters May 1, 2009. Be sure to check it out!

Actor Columbus Short is set to star in Sylvian White‘s latest film, The Losers, which is based on a DC Vertigo war comic book. Short admits to never having read the comic book before but has recently taken up the hobby. One would think that Short would be reluctant to take on a role such as this, but despite any short comings, Short puts all his faith and hope into the hands of White, claiming that Stomp The Yard was a clear demonstration of White’s talent and to expect big things seeing how this go round White has a big budget with Dark Castle Entertainment. Short played “DJ” in the 2007 film.

‘Losers’ centers around a Special Forces team, who are set up and betrayed by their enigmatic handler, Max, who soon discovers that you should never leave a bunch of black-ops commandos for dead. The Losers regroup for revenge, and to get their names off a pesky CIA death list. For issue after issue, they conducted covert operations against the CIA, and sought to uncover the plans and conspiracies of the powerful, secretive Max.

In the film Short will be playing the role of “Captain William Storm.” Assisting him will be Jeffrey Dean Morgan (“Clay”) and none other than Sylvian White himself, who will be playing the role of a character named “Pooch.”

Still in the phases of pre-production, The Losers is set to begin filming in June 2009 and is expected to be released sometime in 2011.
