Usher & Ludacris // 54th International Streetball Championships in Paris, France

R&B singer Usher, along with rapper Ludacris, hosted the 54th International Streetball Championships, which were held at George Carpentier stadium overseas in Paris, France Saturday (Jun 27).

If you were wondering where Usher was Sunday night during the BET Awards, he already had plans to be overseas this past weekend and was unable to catch a plane in time to make the show. His publicist released a statement, which includes Usher saying that he plans on working on some sort of tribute when he returns to the U.S.

Jay-Z and Chris Brown

Rumors are running rampant on the internet insisting that Jay-Z was the force behind Chris Brown not being able to pay homage to Michael Jackson at the 2009 BET Awards. A rapper just doesn’t have that kind of power. It was the BET execs, and more importantly the Viacom execs, who decided it wouldn’t be good for their “image” to let Chris Brown perform. Believe what and who you want to believe, but our sources can confirm that Jay-Z had NOTHING to do with Chris Brown being axed from the show at the very last minute.

Janet Jackson // 2009 BET Awards (Show)

In what had to have been one of the most difficult moments in her life, the late Janet Jackson took the stage at the 2009 BET Awards to thank everyone for their prayers and support in honor of her big brother, Michael Jackson.

“My entire family wanted to be here tonight, but it was just too painful … To you, Michael is an icon; to us, Michael is family and he will forever live in all of our hearts.”

Her unexpected appearance was met with applause and a standing ovation from the teary-eyed crowd. And we’re very proud of her for being strong enough to walk out on stage, speak to millions of people and keep her composure. We know how close she and Michael were. After Janet left the stage, Ne-Yo and Jamie Foxx closed out the show with a beautiful rendition of “I’ll Be There.” Continue reading for more photos and video.

Jamie Foxx // 2009 BET Awards (Show)

Here Jamie Foxx can be seen paying tribute to Michael Jackson (comedically, of course) as the host of the 2009 BET Awards, which aired live from Los Angeles Sunday night (Jun 28) on BET. Jamie Foxx is probably one of the few people who can make light of a sad situation and have everyone laughing and crying at the same time. The BET Awards was supposed to dedicate the entire show to Michael, per the press release sent out Friday, but failed to impress.

The show itself was pretty good, but they should have never mentioned dedicating the show to MIchael if they didn’t have the time to do it right. That said, we really hope they put together an entire special to honor the late King of Pop so they can at least try to save face. But for now, continue reading for photos of Soulja Boy, Jay-Z, Monica, Beyonce, Ne-Yo and many more celebrities who participated in this year’s BET Awards.

Joe Jackson // 2009 BET Awards (Press Room)

Joe Jackson, the patriarch of the Jackson family, gave his first public interview since Michael Jackson’s shocking death to CNN on the red carpet of Sunday’s (Jun 28) 2009 BET Awards. Between him having other people speak for him, referring to his family losing “the biggest superstar in the world” and plugging his new record label at the end, we just think ol’ Joe Jackson was there to show face, instead of honoring his SON. It’s kind of weird how he referred to Mike as “the biggest superstar in the world” instead of his son. He just seems so indifferent to it all. Everything is just business with this guy and the entire interview gives off an awkward vibe.

CNN: I know the last couple of days has been tough for you guys…

Joe: And?… Yeah, it has. It’s been really tough. Remember we just lost the biggest superstar in the world, so it’s been tough…

Chris Brown // Michael Jackson

BET needs to be ashamed of themselves for using Michael Jackson’s name to hype up ratings. Because that’s EXACTLY what they did. If you didn’t catch the 2009 BET Awards, trust us … you didn’t miss much. The show was obviously thrown together at the last minute, and they should have left MJ’s name out of it if they weren’t going to deliver.

On Friday, via their official website, they put out a story saying that they would be “shifting gears” to honor Michael Jackson and his contributions to the world of music and the entire world in general. The final result? A sloppy mess that looks like it was put together in an AOL Instant Messenger chat room the day before. Now we’re not going to knock Jamie Foxx and Ne-Yo for their tributes, because they were on point. And even Ciara did her thing too. But no one would have done a tribute like Chris Brown

Michael & Usher

Usher: “This loss has deeply saddened me, with a heavy heart I composed this statement. May God cover you Michael. We all lift your name up in prayer. I pray for the entire Jackson family particularly Michael’s mother and all his fans that loved him so much. I would not be the artist, performer, and philanthropist I am today without the influence of Michael. I have great admiration and respect for Him and I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to meet and perform with such a great entertainer In so many ways he transcended culture. He broke barriers, he changed radio formats! With music, he made it possible for people like Oprah Winfrey and Barack Obama to impact the mainstream world. His legacy is unparalleled Michael Jackson will never be forgotten.”
