Now for some facts. Latinos are a rainbow race. I love the fact that everyone cries about dont judge people by color but automatically John is black, or adopted. Now just to be clear I’m not saying these things are bad, Im just saying that they arent the facts. His older brother looks italian or russian but the fact remains that he too is puerto rican. Africans were slaves just as Taino indians (puerto ricans) and the mixing of imported slaves and masters alike add to all the colors of our race. There are light skinned blacks and dark skinned latinos. Lets get ourselves educated before trying to speculate about things we know nothing about people.

Secondly… what does any of this have to do with gymnastics? nothing. Focus on the story behind the success. With so many good things to speak about, this is what is being debated?

In the case of John Orozco, he’s adopted because lighter featured parents cannot have darker featured kids. There’s only few cases in the world where biological light skinned parents had darker featured kids and they were mixed. Yet, even mixed couples cannot have kids darker than both direct parents (father or mother). Basic rule.

I don’t see any problem anyway he’s a champion and they are a lovely family.

You African American men are completely retarded. Micheal Jackson ex wife was pale blond woman. His kids are mixed. Obiviously when two black parents have straight white looking kids it sounds weird unless they do have admixture because it takes quite a time to lose melanin, get a more narrow nose and more straight hair. Also its a process.

About the MJ kids its a complete ignorance at its universal finnest. Where do you guys live? What universe and world please? My father is black, mother is white from nordic contries and I am way more white looking than MJ kids. This is total ignorance. (I do dark blue eyes almost looking purple and curvy dark blond hair). Where I live theres quite millions of mixed who look a tanned european. I think people need to go out of their American ghettos more…

This artical is ridiculous and nothing more than ignorance at its finest. I am utterly disappointed in this. I can’t believe that it is 2012 and people STILL look for something, *anything* to divide and separate humans. Seriously, what difference does it make if he is in fact adopted, and why is that something his family should broadcast?? It doesnt matter. Period. They are his parents, he is their son. Plain amd simple. No *further* explanation needed. I’m disgusted by this simple minded artical representing a simple minded person. “Blacker”? Really? Is that what we, as a people, have amounted to? Is that your biggest concern?- it’s the freaking Olympics, this young man is representing the USA with his talent and the best you could muster up is ‘He’s too black to be their real son’ ?? Eff you dude, you have more issues than you realize. I’m sad for you because you couldn’t have experienced a true family atmosphere when you feel the need to pick apart someone else’s. And just as a final note: i have a friend i have known since grade school, both parents dark skinned african americans amd she is lighter than ever, easily “passing” for caucasian. Word to the wise – stop wasting your time on disecting someone’s life, and open your mind and start living your own.

i don’t feel they need to talk about him being adopted because it’s as obvious as mj’s kids being adopted, but you’re right, he is their son. OAN, he isn’t african american, but he is afro-latino. he’s of african descent and culturally he’s latino/caribbean. i don’t know why black people continue to think that being hispanic is a race instead of culture & many black fail to think that an obvious looking black man or woman can’t be black & latin.

Congratulations on one of the most idiotic article titles/rhetorical questions of all time. Is he adopted? Hate to be Captain Obvious, but com’n…But more importantly, why does it matter? John obviously has a terrific relationship with his parents, refers to them as his parents (as an adopted adult and mother who relinquished to adoption, I always hate when the media/individuals refer to someone as “the adopted son of…” or “my adoptive parents…” in a public context) and they are clearly proud of and adore him. And they’ve clearly done a great job with great material. Maybe it’s not commonly discussed because many of us just don’t prefer to label ourselves that way. It’s bad enough society/the media like to pathologize adoption and make us all into bad-seed serial killers. Let’s keep adoption out of this young man’s story — he’s a world-class athlete who did a terrific job, shows tremendous humility and caring, and seems to have two great, devoted parents. Can’t we just laud a stellar athlete and nice young man for just that?

Exactly correct. In my own family each siblings is a different shade of brown….very, very light, tan and ,mocha. One sibling has hazel eyes, one has grey eyes and two have brown eyes. We share the same parents who are American Indian, white and black in heritage. So you can’t go by looks!

He’s not adopted. Puerto Ricans come out all shades, just like a lot of Black Americans. There are plenty of those “Bill Cosby” style families among Black people – some kids dark nd brown, and some very light, even though there parents may be dark. Same in reverse – sometimes light parents and dark kids. It’s called genetic recombination people. Orozco is just a product of both of his Puerto Rican parents. Thta’s how it is, some light and some dark. Some of these articles are so stupid.
