Because R. Kelly hasn’t paid his taxes since 2005 … he now owes the IRS a whopping $4.8 million!

According to documents (obtained by TMZ), Kelz owes the following amounts for the following years:

2005 – $1,472,366.77
2006 – $710,520.51
2007 – $376,180.11
2008 – $1,122,694.90
2009 – $173,815.18
2010 – $992,495.24

All of that adds up to exactly $4,848,072.01.

Reps for the R&B crooner told TMZ, “R. Kelly is in the process of working everything out with the government and is confident that all his obligations will be satisfied.”

This isn’t the first time the Pied Piper of R&B has faced financial problems in recent times. Last year, his 20,000 square foot mansion went into foreclosure with J.P. Morgan Chase Bank, who claimed the singer owed them more than $3 million.

R. Kelly is currently preparing for the release of his 11th studio album “Write Me Back,” which hits stores later this month.
