After dating for three years (and a false alarm a few months back), reps for Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth confirm that the happy couple have made their romance official with an engagement.

“I’m so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam,” 19-year-old Miley tells People Magazine.

According to People.com, Liam — who met Miley in 2009 on the set of their movie “The Last Song” — proposed last Thursday (May 31) with a 3.5-carat diamond ring from jeweler Neil Lane.

Miley, ecstatic about the news, tweeted nearly a week later:

Liam Hemsworth, 22, opened up about his relationship with Miley Cyrus in his cover story for the March 2012 issue of Details Magazine.

“What happened happened, and we’ve been together two and a half years,” he said about falling for Cyrus on the set. “She makes me really happy. When you start, you want to be professional, but when you’re filming those scenes with someone and pretending to love them, you’re not human if you don’t feel something.”

Earlier this year, rumors popped up that Miley and Liam were engaged after Miley was spotted wearing what looked like an engagement ring on her ring finger, however, she denied the rumors, saying she had been wearing that same ring on that same finger for months.

“People just wanna find something to (talk) about! It’s a topaz people!” she said at the time.
