Jennifer Williams from “Basketball Wives” Speaks Out About Slapping Incident and Lawsuit

“Basketball Wives” star Jennifer Williams took to her blog Tuesday (Apr 24) to address the slapping incident and the aftermath that was highlighted on recent airings of the show.

Williams also explains why she filed filed a lawsuit against Nia Crooks (who she referred to as “the assistant”), and clarifies the comments she made towards Crooks on the show about her 2-bedroom apartment (which apparently offended Evelyn so much she tried to attack Jennifer by leaping across the table barefoot)

And the BS continues… I honestly could not stomach to watch last week’s episode. I had lived through the craziness and to relive it was just too much for me. But I would like to clarify a few things.

First up, I never had an issue with “the assistant” up until that day. At one point, we were good friends. We went out together, went to dinner, stayed at each other’s houses and shared plenty of good times and laughs.

There had been some incidents leading up to why I started pulling away from the friendship but I don’t feel the need to blast that information. However, the most important reason why I eased up on the friendship is because she started working for someone who refers to themselves as my “enemy.”

To me being good friends would just cause the situation to be messy so I rather fall back. No love lost and I like I said, I didn’t have any issue with her until she put her hands on me.

Ok now let’s get to the foolery… AGAIN!!!

I just find it so unfortunate someone I once called a friend has no respect for me and felt the need to violent me physically. So of course after you completely disrespect me by putting your hands on me, my mouth is going to get reckless.

I am not happy for the things I said to her but I was caught off guard and left in a vulnerable state. The 2-bedroom apartment comment got taken way out of context. I live in a 2-bedroom apartment so why would I look down on her for that.

My point was don’t act like I lived with you when you live in a 2 bedroom apartment with a roommate. There would be no room for me and all my stuff that barely fits in my 2-bedroom apartment in NJ.

The whole attack against me was pointless. Okay, we aren’t friends no need to fight about it let’s all be mature adults and move on.

People come into your life for a reason, season or a lifetime. I wish it didn’t have to be this way, it makes me sad but that is life.

I did what I felt was right by filing a police report and having my attorneys handling the situation. I am an entrepreneur and a mature adult. Who fights at this age? I was taught to let the authorities handle criminals.

Having graduated with a degree in Political Science and a concentration in Pre-Law, I am fully aware of my legal rights and the justice system. If you put your hands on someone, there will be repercussions. End of story…

For the record, I have changed. I am striving to be an independent woman and I am building a future for myself. I have zero time or tolerance for BS. I am not sitting around waiting for a man to take care of me.

Lucid is 100% mine; I built it from the ground up. No licensing deal or I am a paid spokes model. I don’t sit around and knock what my cast mates are trying to do business wise.

Be a leader and not a follower, no one was thinking about the cosmetic industry until way after Lucid.

At the end of the day, I find it all unfortunate that I am the constant topic when it comes to hate and no one can uplift one another.

Fame has never been a weakness of mine but by watching this show I can’t say the same for all the ladies. I just hope everyone can recognize what is really important in this life because Basketball Wives will not always be the HOT thing… Then what???

    Basketball Wives of Miami and Los Angeles

    VH1 and its corporate parent, Viacom Entertainment has aired
    4 seasons of their Basketball Wives television franchise. The show was
    initially promoted as an avenue for viewers to grow, learn and discuss the successes
    and perils of life as a “basketball wife.” 
    However, the show has proven to be nothing more than a set of glossy
    choreographed boxing matches marked by superficiality and monumental levels of
    bullying. In the year 2012, where we have a bi-racial president and an African
    American first lady, we need not be “tragically colored.” The reality series perpetuates
    the most vulgar stereotypes about women of color particularly, Black women. The
    show has very few redeeming qualities if any at all. Young people across the
    nation tune into to the most grotesque illustrations of black femininity. Women
    well beyond their child-bearing years, cursing, fighting and destroying
    property. One would have to assume that the show’s wild success presents a
    complicated problem for thoughtful, scripted and well crafted television.
    American popular culture has taken on a particular tone similar to that of
    Ancient Rome. Americans have become a ravenous community obsessed with the
    “spectacle.” Romans were consumed with their violent gladiators and many
    Americans are consumed with their tragic reality t.v. “stars.”  These questionable activities occur all in
    the name of entertainment.  Hollywood is
    a beautiful cultural mosaic made mostly out of broken dreams and broken people.
    But, we refuse to partake in Black cultural degradation and misappropriation. In
    the year 2000, we thought that the matrix would hijack us little did we know
    that we would run towards it with open arms. It is beginning to border on
    exploitation and we are all finally tapping out on this one. We are people of
    color and we are talented, determined and cosmically powerful. We embody light
    and love. We do not want to see these types of representations of Black women
    on VH1 in the form of Basketball Wives Miami or Los Angeles!

      What is so ironic about the show is that most of the women aren’t basketball wives, they either went out with a basketball player or is divorced from home.  These women have to act stupid otherwise they wouldn’t have a job.  The show is their job and you can see that most of it is fake.  Everything is for the camera.

    Personally I feel Jennifer is getting a bit too big for herself and she’s starting to unravel. I am glad she wrote this because now I have a clear idea of just the type of person she. Is. What real friend would stop a friendship and start acting funny towards that friend just because she fell out with what was once a mutual friendship of all three.       Slimbaby_88……Let me clear somthing up, If you heard Jennifer In a previous episode she stated she is trying to avoid negativity in her life and start fresh. Im glad she didnt continue to befriend her because look at how it end up, Jennifer is right, if she would have continued to befriend Evelyns assistant things would have got messy, that whole group is about gossip and negativity…nothing good out of them being friends would have came from it. The fact that she slapped her shows she wasnt a true friend in the first place, a true friend would have pulled her to the side and talk to her on a mature adult level. Why approach her all at once, I would have felt attacked. Those women especially Evelyn are negative, bitter, gossip, immature, unclassy, animal acting type of women. Jennifer distance herself because she didnt want to deal with there bitter asses, she is trying to start over…I def would have kept my distance they all about negative, and they talk behind eachother back, why would anybody want to be associated with people like that. Like Tammy stated “she could snapp at any point” if you around people that act up at any point I would send there asses a court letter to, because they would trade on you in a sec. Evelyn sat there and talk about other people dress game, booms and belittle people many times on the show but as soon as Jennifer learn to take up for herself its a issue. Jennifer is handling the situation correctly, as a women should…at 35 you should not be fighting, get the law on her ass I bet they would think twice next time they decide to raise a hand to her.       I strongly disagree with you! Jennifer was right to break ties with Nia because Nia is Evelyn assistant! That is a conflict of interest for Nia. Jennifer actually di Nia a favor but pulling back from her, this way she wouldn’t have to choose sides. But clearly she had already chose sides but talking about Jennifer to the other ladies. I real woman would have approached Jennifer one on one and asked her why did she pull back from her? Not confront her in front of a lot of people who really don’t like her;( And as far as Shaunie goes why should she not communicate with her? She is the creator of the show and if I was Jennifer I would ride this ride until I can’t ride it any more! Never let haters stop you from getting PAID!!!!

    I don’t agree with Nia slapping Jen, but lets not forget that Jen was all about Eve knocking people out on her behalf i.e. royce. Besides she was angry with royce for the exact same reason Eve was made at her.  It is all childs play, where was your pre-law degree upon the signing of the BBW contract that states you may be put into a situation where you may have to fight or you may be hit. HELLO!!! If you fight with your attorney’s they should have advised you not to be on the show according to this very obvious and literal claus in the contract. Geesh!!!  And no i’m not fighting to get it off the air it is pure entertainment for me, i don’t live my life this way and it doesn’t represent me at all however it does represent some who live this way everyday, so if you want to fight for a cause try doing a real one for people who really don’t have a choice but to live in a doggy dog world.        He needs to marry her so he can continue his reality show career since football is done now for him.  It is a business relationship, they both benefit from it.  I think he is a nice guy and that’s the only reason he would marry a woman like Evelyn.  He will drop her in a few years when plastic surgery can no longer make her look years younger and get a 20 something year old.

      This show is a disgrace to Black Women….I stopped watching a while back and just heard about the latest incident from co-workers.  Black women are better than this, we as black women truly deserve better and should demand better. What are we teaching our young black girls?
