BET Cancelled The Monique Show?

One of BET’s highly rated nightly shows may have been cancelled, according to new reports that state that Oscar-winning actress turned talk show host Mo’Nique‘s nightly slot has been put on an “indefinite hiatus,” which is a big ol’ fancy phrase for CANCELLED.

According to AJCRadio TV Blog, writer Rodney Ho contacted the network to confirm the status of the much loved show. He later got an email from a BET rep which said “The Mo’Nique Show will be on production hiatus beginning in the fall.”

Sidekick to the show Rodney Perry is alleged to have confirmed in a text, “I was told indefinite hiatus.”

He later went on to say that his experience of working on the show has been enjoyable.

“We did some good work. And I think the show is significant. There hasn’t been an outlet for people of color late night since Arsenio. They haven’t had this type of investment ever. We did 300 shows over two seasons. That’s a huge investment.” He continued, “I’m selling out shows now, that’s a win.”

Awww … and another good show bites the dust! Wonder what the problem was though?

I WAS JUST SPEAKING TO MY DAUGHTER ABOUT THE FANTASTIC SHOW LAST NIGHT WITH THOSE VERY TALENTED YOUNG AFRICAN AMERICAN CHILDREN:

    I HAVE TWO MESSAGES -
    1. WHENEVER ANYTHING REFLECTS OUR POSITIVE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THIS SOCIETY – IT GETS CANCELLED.
    2. I AM REMINDED THAT BET IS NOW MOSTLY OWNED BY WHITES…GET THE PICTURE.

WHATEVER WAS DONE TO BRING BACK “THE GAME” – LET’S DO IT 3-FOLD… IT’S STARTING TO BECOME A WELL OILED MACHINE. I AM TIRED OF THE OUTWARD SIGNS OF BIGOTRY!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Angel Gurl

I am very glad that this show is going off the air. FIrst of all, Monique has a foul mouth. We want positive role models for our future generation. She was able to book some of our top actors; the best of the best, but, she needed to keep her language respectful and tasteful. Our young and elderly viewers did not need to be exposed to such language; but she was called it “keeping it real”. We have come too far to go backwards in the manner Monique was taking us. I think if she had cleaned up her language and some of her “isms” her show may have made it.

  • GMO

I knew it was coming. Whenever you have a controversial host like Mo telling it like it TI IS, the non colored folks want to trash it cause they can’t stand the truth and still dont want us to overcome. Mo, you keep your head up high and we’ll see you again on the BIG BLACK SCREEN!. BET stands for WHAT? BIGGETS!!!

  • honeydew

I love the monique show from the start, she is very, pretty and I like how she keeps all the subject very real. Some people can’t stand to hear the truth. She very intelligent, smart, and love everybody. When there is something good for African American, you have rude people out there in the world, how loves to still your joy. Monique keep your head up and continue to smile. I hope your show will come back, because I and other people enjoy your show. Monique has one of best black t.v. shows to watch. I like how she have the old & new artists on her show. Much love, please bring the Monique Show back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!2011

  • honeydew

@honeydew: This is one of the greatest black talk show for the young & old people. Monique is very funny & has a great show. Monique believe in keeping everything real and some people can’t stand to hear the truth. I have been watching this show from the beginning, and i love her show. She is very pretty, smart & intelligent. She bring old & new artist to the show. She believes in letting big women know you can look good at all times. Please bring the Monique show back, we enjoy her show!!!!!!!! Also Rodney was very good and i love the band. Please stop taking off good shows for African-American!!!!!!!!!!

  • Patricia Williams

What’s up???? The Monique Show is and was the best visual medium for people of color to show case peop.le of color in their endeavors besides “E”. Get Monique back on the air and do some different things if necessary, but don’t just let go of a viable entity for the people.

  • Sharon

WHAT THE @#$%!!! THIS IS CRAZY!!!!! WHY….TELL ME WHY YOU DECIDED TO CANCEL A SHOW THAT WAS HIGH IN RATINGS….THAT WAS VERY INFORMATIVE…….THAT NOT ONLY APPEALED TO THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN AUDIENCE..BUT SOME WHITES AS WELL?????????

NOW IF IT WAS A WHITE TALK SHOW HOST AND JUST APPEALED TO WHITE CELEBRITIES…THAT WOULD BE OKAY…RIGHT??

DID YOU THINK SHE COULD HAVE BEEN OUT-HOSTING THE OTHER SHOWS???? WHATEVER YOUR REASONING IS….YOU NEED TO STEP DOWN OFF OF YOUR HIGH HORSE AND LET MO RECLAIM HER PLACE BACK ON BET…

BROTHERS AND SISTERS…WE NEED TO DO EVERYTHING IN OUR POWER TO GET HER BACK ON THE AIR…CUZ….IT IS TRULY UNFAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • julius

I love mo’nique she keep it real ,she don,t fake the funk.

  • frances pearcy

Monique introduced me to black people i had never heard of. I am 58yrs old and that was the only enjoyment I had on television with Wendy included in this . We as black people need to stick together. what ever happened please resolve it. We need a show like Moniques. If we cant have Monique please bring someone like her. I feel she will be hard to replace. No one can hollar like her glad she calmed that down. Please Please Please bring her back

  • DJ

THE MONIQUE SHOW WAS LIKE BEING WITH FAMILY. YOU NEED TO BRING IT BACK ON ASAP!!!

  • Ted Parker

I am surprised that the show lasted as long as it did. Mo is just too damn loud. I don’t know who she think she is fooling with all that blackness.. Mo honey you are old enough to know that the strangers don’t mind you lifting a people that don’t konw their history. They will always let you pitch a lie, since you don’t know who you are. Sweetie, you are the poster girl for the continuation of the strangers lies and a disgrace to a great people of YHWH. Seek the truth in all presentations that are made to the people of GOD. Wake up dried bones of the valley!

  • make it count

BET’s CEO… IS BLACK. So she had something to do with this its not just the WHITE thing.

  • Monte Moire

I am a little late with this, but I am shocked!! Monique’s show was fantastic. To cancel a show that had this much appeal, is crazy! I mean, they cancel Mo’s show..but leave Wendy Williams show on? Come on, now. I am done with BET. I will never watch BET again. Which is sad because they had some interesting shows that were coming out this fall. The one with Malcolm Jamal-Warner and Tracee Ellis Ross, looks pretty nice. Sadly, I will not be watching BET. I am boycotting BET until they get Monique back on.

  • Rosalyn M. Noaks

I can’t believe the only decent show on BET Monique was CANCELLED. A show that had so much information on black people and the good things they are doing for the community cancelled. So much for bet I don’t care for all the gangster, thug, ignorant movies. I’ll miss Monique I never missed a show. You might know any show that shows black people’s success would be cancelled. Move her show from 5 to 3 times a week I hated that. I don’t have anything else I like on BET. The Game was also good.

  • Rosalyn M. Noaks

I agree with you anything that show black people in a postive light CANCELLED.

  • Rosalyn M. Noaks

    Bring Monique back!

  • Neah Bryant

What a sad day in TV world. But I must say I’m not in the least bit surprised. The Monique show was truly an inspiration to many. We need to get back to the true “powers that be” (i.e. fans) who demanded that great tv programs last. I believe that if “we” raise enough noise the show will be back on air.

  • Mattie Jones

I think it is a shame that such a good show was cancelled. I kept thinking they had changed the time, didn’t realize it was cancelled. What a shame. There needs to be any outcry and petitions requesting that this show be put back on.

  • BLACKGLOW

If the Monique was definitely cancelled, why?

  • http://subblkmantacoma@aol.com Reggie

Such a shame about the Monique show!!!! I’m Spechless on the cancellation!!

  • Reggie

I am sooo shocked, pissed off that the show was cancelled!!

  • elaine

I do not understand why the show was cancelled. One thing I do know is Monique show touch people in a way that no other show has, what ever the reason is PLEASE the two of you can work this out. Or at least tell us the truth to why BET cancelled the show, do not let us go around thinking that BET has did some unjust to a GOOD show. PLEASE BRING THE Monoque Show Back.

  • elaine

@Angel Gurl: I wonder what type of words you speak or your childrend spaek when no one is listening, after all The Monique Show came on at 11pm, seem to be late for young children to be viewing. He who is without sin cast the first stone.

  • elaine

LOVE You Monique, keep your head up, better things will come your way. What ever happen make sure this do not happen again and if it was because you were being YOU, don’t STOP! KEEPKEEP ON Rising to the TOP and Take with you LOVE and YOUR SMILE and wrap your arms around you and rock yourself to sleep!!!! SEE YOU when YOU WAKE UP!

  • http://n/a BETTY HOLMES

WE HAVE COME A LONG WAY BUT IT SEEMS WE HAVE NOT COME FAR ENOUTH WITH THE
THE RACISM THAT IS STILL AMONG US AND NOW THE BET IS ALMOST PREDOMINATELY
WHITE THINGS HAVE BEEN CHANGING. WE DO NOT GET THE REAL BLACK SHOWS ON ANY-
MORE THIS SHOULD NOT BE GOING ON IN THIS TIME OF THE CENTURY WE SHOULD NOT
STILL BE LOOKING AT WHAT COLOR WE ALL ARE LET US GET THIS THING TOGETHER THIS
IS NOT WHAT GOD HAS PLANNED FOR ALL OF US. RETURN THE GOOD SHOWS AND LET
PEOPLE FEEL THAT YOUR STATION IS THERE FOR ALL NOT ONE. THANK YOU

  • Jean

I would love to see Monique return to late night tv. As far as i’m concern Wendy Williams show is the show that should be canceled.

  • Reba Gardner

I could not believe that they cancelled the show,Monique,I loved your show and everything you play in.I am hoping that they will bring you back on .Continue to keep it real.

  • CHRIS D. JOHNSON

Well, the show was great, and she was very lovable and extra funny- “BUT”! RESPECT! Monique was not always respectful to some guest when it was due them. You don’t cuss and act ignorant when you interview certain guests’. there were a lot of Christians Folks and some Pastors that were not given RESPECT! There is a time and place for everything, and there should’ve been choice for me when I tuned in to see Monigue the fantastic talk show host compared to seeing Monique the stand up cussing-over-the-top-comedian. I’M JUS SAYIN

  • Karen El-Amin

I truly have missed watching Monique. Being disabled and not having a lot of outlets it afforded the entertainment I needed. We already have little to no African American shows that lift us up and showcase our positive attributes. PLEASE BRING HER BACK!!!!!

  • ladonna

    @Jean: i agree

  • ladonna

i was disappointed to turn on BET and see the repeats thought they maybe they in contract renewal not cancelled

  • AUDREY

WHAT IS WRONG WITH BET . THE MONIQUE SHOW BRINGS US AS A CULTURE TOGETHER,
SHE ALWAYS ENLIGHTENS US AS A PEOPLE ABOUT OUR HISTORY , SHE BRINGS POWERFUL GUEST ON THE SHOW TO RELATE TO ,AND SHE MAKES IT POSSIBLE FOR SOME TO GET THEIR START ON HER SHOW , SHE IS REAL AND THAT WHAT WE NEED ON T.V REAL PEOPLE
WITH REAL TALK . LETS GET THE SHOW STARTED AGAIN PLEASE.

    • Tei_mwg2009

BET is not Black own any more…I thought you guys were aware of that… Via com the VH1 folks-es own that now…!!!

  • loretta

PLEASE PUT MONIQIE BACK ON AIR, We as black people need her. Are children’s need her she make us feel like we are somebody i think that every time you turn on your televison you just don’t see us as much.
I have to keep rememinding my children that they can do it, It not just for caucasian

  • DANIELLE

Well my family & I went to see the show LIVE, and we were very disappointed in her behavior towards her fans. We received more love from the comedians who kept us laughing before the show began & during commerical breaks. When the cameras turned off, so did Monique, she didnt even address the crowd not once when the cameras were off, she acted as if we weren’t there. When the lights came back on, she turned back on & began addressing the cameras and the audience. Snoop Dogg performed that day & he was the real star, Snoop act in person the same when we see him on television. Monique a different story. My family & I were not the only ones who had negative things to say after we left, and right then I knew that she would not be on the air much longer, as a matter of fact, we all stop watching her after we saw the show LIVE, had we not seen it LIVE, we probably would have kept watching it because on TV she come across as “REAL” but that is not what we encountered from her in person. It was disappointing to see her in that light

  • Bernadette

I was wondering what happened to tne Monique Show. I liked the show. I thought it was very informative. I learned alot about some of our black actors. The media had most of the rappers portrayed in a negative manner. The show allowed me to see them in a different light. Some of what I saw on the show really amazed me with what they are doing in the community. Alot of them are great business men and women.I would really like to see the Monique Show come back on the air.

  • MeredithKC

I like the reruns of the Monique Show, but was hoping it was just on hiatus and would be starting up again with The Game. At first I thought Monique was too loud and “street.” She tone it down and became a classy, fun, enjoyable host. I loved that they brought on the black entertainers (singers) from the 80′s & 90′s. she had authors, actors, entertainers on who never appeared on other shows. The show was starting to expand and have other races on the show. I loved the Greek Show with all the AA sororities and fraternities on the show. Many people didn’t know about all of them. Young acts were on the show. She was/is beloved….Sometimes there are creative differences that we the public aren’t privy too, but this was an excellent confirmation of the positive things that Black America does. Monique was alwyas well put together – I want to know where those dresses come from that accentuate the wonderful curves of an African American woman. Bring the Monique Show back!

  • betty johnson

If The Monique Show was like THE OPRAH SHOW, they would not have canceled! Monique loved her people and that’s why her show was cancelled. If her show was based on white women they would NOT have cancelled it. People, from now on when you see a movie that you have seen for a million time on BET, don’t watch it. This is a black thing, and I’m not buying it! And also people, stop watching all the white talk shows.

  • betty johnson

If anyone on this board talking negative about The Monique Show, tune your white ass to OWN Network!
