During Kentucky’s regional final win over North Carolina at the Prudential Center in Newark this past Sunday (March 28), Nets minority owner Jay-Z was photographed in the UK locker room. The rapper turned business mogul has developed a relationship with Kentucky (and former Net) coach John Calipari through William Wesley.
The problem with Jay-Z’s locker room visit is that NBA team personnel aren’t allowed to make contact with college players before they declare for the draft, and the Kentucky roster includes a pair of potential lottery picks.
As a result, the NBA will look into the matter and cites a previous case where Celtics GM Danny Ainge sat with Kevin Durant’s mother during the Big 12 Tournament in 2007. Ainge was ultimately fined $30,000.
Chump change to Jay-Z, who is reportedly worth over $400 million.
