Most 9-year-old girls are at home playing with Barbie dolls and My Little Pony……but not little Willow Smith!
Rumors are circulating that 9-year-old Willow (whose parents are Hollywood actor and actress Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith) has inked a deal with Jay-Z‘s Roc Nation record label. Willow’s first song (and debut single?) “Whip My Hair” hit the web Tuesday (LISTEN HERE!!) and everyone has been going CRAZY over it! The track is already getting radio play on big stations like New York City’s Hot 97, and folks are already bringing on the Rihanna comparisons as the song continues to build buzz for Willow’s career.
With her newfound music career, Willow (who celebrates her 10th birthday this year on Halloween) is following in the footsteps of three of her other family members. Her dad Will Smith had a very successful rap career in the 90’s before he crossed over into acting full time, and her older brother Jaden rapped on a Justin Bieber song (“Never Say Never”) that was featured on the “Karate Kid” soundtrack. Her mother Jada Pinkett Smith also does a little singing on the side as the frontwoman for the rock band Wicket Widsom.
Sounds like being the daughter of a major Hollywood actor AND actress definitely has its perks! But we’re not gonna front, that “Whip My Hair” song goes extra hard and is gonna kill the radio if they promote it right. And if she keeps up her momentum, we could be looking at the world’s youngest mainstream Pop star!
