40 Ton Whale Causes Major Damage to a South African Couple’s Yacht!

Author: Staff | Date: July 21st 2010 | LEAVE A COMMENT

A 40-ton whale was spotted jumping on to a yacht belonging to a South African couple Sunday afternoon (July 18).

Ralph Mothes and Paloma Werner were sailing off the coast of Cape Town when an enormous whale attacked their boat. However luckily the pair got away unharmed. The yacht on the other hand wass a different story.

Glad to know they made it out okay though!

  • Stop with the “attack” insinuation….it appears the whale was breaching/feeding.
Remember the whale BELONGS in that spot, not the yachtsmen!

  • I totally agree with James. This is an old POS sail boat. I won’t be surprised to find out this is actually insurance fraud.

Anyone identify the whale species? I think it is a Southern Right Whale. If so, at least the cheats got the hemisphere correct.

    My vote: HOAX!

This whale may have been a survivor of the many fishing ships that daily destroy them.
