Whoa, we didn’t see this one coming. Songwriter/producer/musician M.I.A. recently spoke out on how she feels about fellow Pop singer Lady Gaga‘s rapid rise to superstardom. Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam, most known simply by er stage name M.I.A. said that she thinks that Gaga is simply a “mimic” of what’s been done before, adding that her music isn’t truly genuine. She says all of this in her cover issue for NME Magazine, a British publication.

“People say we’re similar, that we both mix all these things in the pot and spit them out differently,” she said, “but she spits it out exactly the same. None of her music’s reflective of how weird she wants to be or thinks she is.”

She added: “She models herself on Grace Jones and Madonna but the music sounds like 20 year-old Ibiza disco. She’s not progressive, but she’s a good mimic. She sounds more like me than I f**king do! That’s a talent… but she’s the industry’s last stab at making itself important.”

Someone sounds a little bitter! Well if that’s the case M.I.A., then maybe you should sound more like her so you can sound like a better version of yourself, then you can create hit after hit instead of having your sh*t sampled by rappers who don’t even give you credit in the song title. No shade, we’re just sayin…

What do you think about M.I.A.’s slick comments towards Lady Gaga?
