Tyler Perry’s New “Madea’s Big Happy Family” Play Going on Tour in January 2010!
Madea hasn’t gone on the road in nearly 5 years but according to the pistol toting grandma’s creator Tyler Perry himself, all of that is going to change! The 40-year-old filmmaker announced via his official website that Madea’s role will be reprised in a new stage play called “Madea’s Big Happy Family” and the first show kicks off on January 5th 2010 and lasts all the way up until May (though more dates will probably be added later)!
Big Announcement!
I wanted to tell you this before the tickets went on sale in most places….Madea is officially going on tour! That’s right, a Madea play, live on tour! I have managed to carve out about a year to go on the road and see you all again. I gotta tell you, I have missed you. There is nothing like a live performance and if you’ve never seen a Madea play, then you haven’t seen Madea at all. It is an experience, just ask someone who’s seen it…..SMILE
It’s been 5 years since I’ve been on the road and the timing just happened to fall right into place. I needed to get away from Hollywood for a second…clear my head. There is no better way to do that than to come out and see your faces and be reminded of where this all started. The show is called MADEA’S BIG HAPPY FAMILY. I’m going to come through as many cities as I can. I know I can’t get to all of them but I’ll try and get as close as I can. Get your tickets early! I want you to have the opportunity to get good seats first before the rest of the country hears about the advertising, ok?
I can’t wait to see you! This play is going to be amazing!
I’ll see you soon.
Tyler Perry
The last play that featured Madea in a leading role was “Madea Goes to Jail,” which toured the country back in 2005. The play was later turned into a film and released to theaters in February 2009.
Continue reading for the current tour dates to see if Madea and her big happy family will be coming to your city! We love Madea and we absolutely CANNOT WAIT to see this!!!

Why are you having this play at Freedom Hall, it will be horrible to get a descent sit, where you can see or hear well. The Louisville Palace is a much better place. I or many others will not be willing to pay money for the play, if we have to look at monitors. Parking is high and bad, plus the walking distance is long, especially for older people. Did you even look at this place, before you booked it.

I did npt see a tour date for St. Louis, MO. We are very disappointed, but optimistic that it will be added at a later date. I can speak for many St. Louisians, we really need an opportunity to let our hair down, forget about our problems and concerns and just enjoy ourselves as only a Tyler Perry play can provide. Please add St. Louis. Thank you……..

Tyler, How you gone charge somebody that type of money when you know how hard times are, come on now. Don’t forget where you came from. I was hoping me and my sister’s could attend but due to the economy, we can’t afford that. Come on Tyler. You should have came somewhere that people could afford to come because the sprint center is probably why the tickets are so high.

I saw your play last night at Madison Square Garden, and it was great and your Mom would be really proud and happy for youl. I am just so sorry that the audience was not more respectfull and couldn’t act with more respect for you and your effort and the other actors. We as a people have lost our respect and you were on point.
I am a senior citizen and I lost my Mom in 2004, and her sister 33 days later; so I really related to the play especially since all I have is my brother, and haven’t spoken to him since 2004. Sometimes when you have done all you can; you must just leave it to GOD. It is espeically sad because I don’t know why he has choosen to cast me aside. Some of it is because he is married and I believe afraid of his wife. But family is blood. If a man can have an affair and his wife doesn’t know, he can call me without her knowing even if he must call collect. Just say a prayer
and I will pray for you that GOD will continue to bless, and keep you most of all continue to guide you.
WORD FOR 2010

I saw this wonderful play in Portland, OR – FRONT ROW! I so love Tyler Perry, his insight, his humor, and his happy circle of dear family members. I was very touched when Tyler announced that he found the very talented young performers on YouTube. Such opportunities for those two talented men.
I hope everyone that has family of any demonination, creed, ethnic background takes the time to watch his movies, and pay attention. If you cannot see his plays, all of his movies send a stern message for the family unit. And….. Madea Rocks!!!! I love you, Tyler Perry, God Bless.

As a journalist for a black newspaper in Charlotte, I went to review Perry’s play. Expecting nothing but the best. I wasn’t on an “approved media list” and I was treated so badly by his production goons. I paid for my own ticket and requested a media kit, asked for the pr person and yes, I like so many others took pictures. There were hardly enough programs, maybe 25% of people were able to purchase one. I just wanted to write a story. There were about 10 goons around me, two very hateful black women, police officer, security and production member, I was told there was no media there, they had no press kits, nothing with the cast members names. Perry had been on stage preaching about being helpful to others and his goons treated me like a criminal. I agree with Magaret Agee, he forgot where he came from…I used to promote his first plays, years ago. I won’t let this deter me, as his message suggests I shouldn’t. We know when black folks get big…

Hello Tyler,
I have seen many of your plays since retiring from the military five years ago. This play was absolutely amazing, my only regret was having to sit in the nose bleed section :) but that was fine also. I am waiting for my husband to get back from Kuwait so I can go again, so see you in Atlanta in April.
I pray for your strength because I know how the lose of a parent can affect us. I still miss my mom and that was five years ago and my dad passed last year. I am 44 years old and there are times when I feel “like a motherless child” but I have God, a loving family, and peace in knowing that they are alive in me.
Love you brother,
Darlene

Tyler- you really outdone yourself this time. This stage play was PHOENOMIAL !!!! i laugh from start to finish. I took my 13year old daughter and my 17 year old son..and my very consevative sister; they laugh so hard that my daughter’s stomach muscle are still hurting. the scene with the angel was a tear jerker. I went to work and just ran my mouth all day about how great the show was. i can’t say enough…i can only say again the show was PHOENOMIAL.
My brother and sister is coming from North Carolina and we are all going to see it in Norfolk.
so, as Arnold Swart….. (sorry can’t spell his last name) :-) would say “I’LL BE BACK”

I am quite sure you would be a sell-out over here. I am due to leave from here in October or early September. I asking you if you can find it in your heart to come here and do one of your plays. Your calendar states that the new play will be in Maryland April 22-25, 2010 @ the Lyric theatre. However this play is not listed on the Lyric schedule. Has the date been changed? I can’t wait to see the new Madea. Please provide me with the correct information. My mom is a very big Tyler Perry fan and her birthday is in April. This would be a wonderful present for her. I look forward to your response.

Hey Tyler,
Thank you for using the “gift” that God has given you to touch others. I recently was priviledged to see your latest play “Madea’s Big………….. and it was great. I’m sorry to hear you had lost your mother. The loss of someone so great in your life is not always easy. It really touched me when you shared at the end that this was your inspiration for this play. I too lost my mother at the age of 64 and her death was not only sudden but tragic. My sister, my brother and I have not come to complete healing as of yet,” but with God everything is possible.” I just really enjoyed how you kept it real, especially when you improvised. Oh and the music and the singing was (as we say old school) “OFF THE HOOK!!” Again thank you for using your talents and giving so many the oppurtunity to do so as well. God bless you and yours.

I have been trying to find out where you would be since the 1st fo Feb. It is not easy to find the dates, at least for me. I called numberous “friends” , who apparently knew but did not tell me. I thought I had found Christmas early last week when I found TBN had your movies + “Meet the Brown”. I was renting your movies, unaware that you had a TV Prog. That is how I found out about your play. It is impossible how you have changed my life ( & am sure many others). You have raised my self esteem & are setting new postive body immage types. It is incrediable in this country how people have equated weight with worth. There are so many people who don’t want to devulge their humble origins. My 1st childhood memories where the projects in Chattanooga. My best friend was “Lilly Mae”, and my pets were giant roatches. I would wake up at night crying for potatoes (because we could only afford beans).
Things move up. I mean up North. We moved in to Cabrini Green, Chicago. There the pet they did get they weren’t allowed to keep to they cooked them in the tub & ate them, like our neighbors who had a pet pig, then a pet rooster.
It is funny when you are finally in aposition to enjoy life (eat what you want, don’t exercise) you either worried about your weight for other people or you feel guilty. I noticed the other night on your show that you seemed a little self-concious about your weight ( grief weight). We are all watching you and your reactions to your body image. First you are not over weight, and I squirmed when you said that as I lost my Dad March 5th, 2008 & 3 months later my mother fell off the cliff with Alzheimers. I have gained 30 lbs., but your movies have inspired me more than I can express. I hope to now purchase tickets to your play, as laughter is healing & you have certainly helped me more than any Dr. or med.s., but I must say a nip once and again won’t kill you.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Kathy Santisteban

I have missed your plays and glad you are back on tour. Will you be coming to Grand Rapids or Kalamazoo, MI anytime this year because we would truly love to see your plays.
I have seen other plays and went to one play in Grand Rapids starring Gerald Levert before he passed and we couldn’t see them perform because of some difficulties, which took over one hour for them to tell us and it was a packed house; even if they had sent him out to sing a couple of songs would have been fine. I made up my mind that evening, that I was not going to anymore plays unless Tyler Perry’s name was on it.
Keep up the good work and may GOD continue to bless you real good.

It was so worth the money, we laughed til we bout DIED!!!! I loved, loved, loved it! Did I say I loved it? Let me say it again, I loved, loved, loved it. Hello Tyler, Thank you so much for coming to Norfolk, Virginia. I just left your show. It was fantastic!
All of your actors/singers are “A plus” quality performers. I told a lady behind me that your show was worth every brown penny. I could see this show over and over again. I support your shows/movies. I will definitely purchase a copy of this play when it comes out on DVD. Please continue to keep up the good work. On behalf of the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, we truly love you (smile) . Please come back and see us soon. Take care……. Tina

I would like to know when will the play come to San Antonio, Texas? My son, Damani Green that has Down Syndrome is Madea’s biggest fan. He would really like to meet her. I really love your plays. They have really helped me in my life, if only they could help me with the man of my dreams. I know Madea says to “set and wait work on myself.”

April 28, 2010 at 9:39 PM
I like the play but next time you come to Buffalo, NY come on a weekend Friday or Saturday. The ticket prices were to much. If i wanted to look at a screen i could of waited for the DVD to come out. Go back to having the plays at Shea’s Performance Arts. Yes you will need to do two shows but that’s ok.
At least we will be able to have a better view of the play and you will not have to charge as much for the tickets.i know that you have to make money but everyone is not as fortune as others. So for the ones who are not that fortune and who really enjoy going to the plays please give this some thought. God Bless

Recently saw the show at the Liacouras Center. To “FUNNY” and the singing was off the hook.
Mr. Perry is a man of many talents. Please add me to the mailing list, I plan on seeing every play I can afford “smile”.
Didn’t enjoy the Liacouras Center venue and had to sit in the parking garage for almost an hour before getting out. I had seats on the side of the stage next time I’ll be sure to see the plays at a theater.

I went to see the play ” Madea’s Big Happy Family” on Mother’s Day at The Fox Theatre @ 3pm. I went to church laughed and cried and came to the play and did the same. I love Tyler Perry’s plays and his movies. The last movie I seen of his is, “Why did I get Married Too?” I can’t begin to tell you how much I loved that movie, but not as much as I love Tyler Perry himself. I didn’t know about the lost of his mother 12-8-2009. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. Keep your head up and let nothing or no one keep you from progressing in what you are doing. May GOD’S Blessings continue to be with you as it always has been. Cause to GOD be your Glory! AMEN

My husband (Phillip) and I happended to be in Louisville, KY during the time of your play, Madea’s Big Happy Family. We’re from New Orleans but was in town for a Black Fire Fighter’s Conference and we managed to purchase two tickets from one of the firemen in Kentucky.
Needless to say, that was one of the best purchases we made. We both laughed so hard that night. Good thing I brought tissues because I couldn’t stop the tears of laughter from running down my face.
I have always been a big fan of yours, and my sister Carolyn is an even a bigger fan, if that is possible. We both have purchased (not bootlegged) all dvds that we could find that you’ve made and we are always patiently awaiting new projects from you.
So keep doing what you do and don’t stop producing those great hits, because be assured, me and my family are great fans!!
Your loyal and devoted fan, Melanie Mason
