Tyler Perry’s New “Madea’s Big Happy Family” Play Going on Tour in January 2010!

Madea // Tyler Perry

Madea hasn’t gone on the road in nearly 5 years but according to the pistol toting grandma’s creator Tyler Perry himself, all of that is going to change! The 40-year-old filmmaker announced via his official website that Madea’s role will be reprised in a new stage play called “Madea’s Big Happy Family” and the first show kicks off on January 5th 2010 and lasts all the way up until May (though more dates will probably be added later)!

Big Announcement!

I wanted to tell you this before the tickets went on sale in most places….Madea is officially going on tour! That’s right, a Madea play, live on tour! I have managed to carve out about a year to go on the road and see you all again. I gotta tell you, I have missed you. There is nothing like a live performance and if you’ve never seen a Madea play, then you haven’t seen Madea at all. It is an experience, just ask someone who’s seen it…..SMILE

It’s been 5 years since I’ve been on the road and the timing just happened to fall right into place. I needed to get away from Hollywood for a second…clear my head. There is no better way to do that than to come out and see your faces and be reminded of where this all started. The show is called MADEA’S BIG HAPPY FAMILY. I’m going to come through as many cities as I can. I know I can’t get to all of them but I’ll try and get as close as I can. Get your tickets early! I want you to have the opportunity to get good seats first before the rest of the country hears about the advertising, ok?

I can’t wait to see you! This play is going to be amazing!

I’ll see you soon.
Tyler Perry

The last play that featured Madea in a leading role was “Madea Goes to Jail,” which toured the country back in 2005. The play was later turned into a film and released to theaters in February 2009.

Continue reading for the current tour dates to see if Madea and her big happy family will be coming to your city! We love Madea and we absolutely CANNOT WAIT to see this!!!

i WOULD LIKE TO BE PUT ON YOUR MAILING LIST

  • FAith Armstead

Put me on your mailing list please.

  • Kathy Stigall

Why are you having this play at Freedom Hall, it will be horrible to get a descent sit, where you can see or hear well. The Louisville Palace is a much better place. I or many others will not be willing to pay money for the play, if we have to look at monitors. Parking is high and bad, plus the walking distance is long, especially for older people. Did you even look at this place, before you booked it.

  • http://www.3mbgifts.com M. Moore-Burkett

    Greetings

Include me on your mailing list please.

    Thanks much

  • DJ

Will the play be in Orlando, FL or Albany, GA?

  • Toni bostick

I did npt see a tour date for St. Louis, MO. We are very disappointed, but optimistic that it will be added at a later date. I can speak for many St. Louisians, we really need an opportunity to let our hair down, forget about our problems and concerns and just enjoy ourselves as only a Tyler Perry play can provide. Please add St. Louis. Thank you……..

  • Patty Strader

I saw a tour date at one point for Raleigh, NC on February 3rd, 4th and 5th. Now I cannot find that information anywhere now. Are you still planning on being in Raleigh in February? I surely hope so! We cannot wait to see you!

  • Marcus

Hey Tyler my question is why your not coming to Miami we like your plays too.

  • Margaret Agee

Tyler, How you gone charge somebody that type of money when you know how hard times are, come on now. Don’t forget where you came from. I was hoping me and my sister’s could attend but due to the economy, we can’t afford that. Come on Tyler. You should have came somewhere that people could afford to come because the sprint center is probably why the tickets are so high.

  • Lisa

@Margaret Agee: That’s not his problem. Wait for it to come out on DVD and buy it then. Or rent it from Blockbuster.

  • takeshia richardson

What about pittsburgh Mr. Perry. I would love to take my parents and their spouses. Thye would love it but I cant take them all to Ohio

  • Jerry AKA A TRUE NEW YORK DIVAAAH

I saw your play last night at Madison Square Garden, and it was great and your Mom would be really proud and happy for youl. I am just so sorry that the audience was not more respectfull and couldn’t act with more respect for you and your effort and the other actors. We as a people have lost our respect and you were on point.

I am a senior citizen and I lost my Mom in 2004, and her sister 33 days later; so I really related to the play especially since all I have is my brother, and haven’t spoken to him since 2004. Sometimes when you have done all you can; you must just leave it to GOD. It is espeically sad because I don’t know why he has choosen to cast me aside. Some of it is because he is married and I believe afraid of his wife. But family is blood. If a man can have an affair and his wife doesn’t know, he can call me without her knowing even if he must call collect. Just say a prayer
and I will pray for you that GOD will continue to bless, and keep you most of all continue to guide you.

    WORD FOR 2010
IF GOD IS YOUR CO-PILOT, YOU ARE IN THE WRONG SEAT AND IT’S TIME TO SWITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
    LAST YEAR’S WORD:
    ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE

I saw this wonderful play in Portland, OR – FRONT ROW! I so love Tyler Perry, his insight, his humor, and his happy circle of dear family members. I was very touched when Tyler announced that he found the very talented young performers on YouTube. Such opportunities for those two talented men.
I hope everyone that has family of any demonination, creed, ethnic background takes the time to watch his movies, and pay attention. If you cannot see his plays, all of his movies send a stern message for the family unit. And….. Madea Rocks!!!! I love you, Tyler Perry, God Bless.

  • Deidra Harrison

  • celeste hart

As a journalist for a black newspaper in Charlotte, I went to review Perry’s play. Expecting nothing but the best. I wasn’t on an “approved media list” and I was treated so badly by his production goons. I paid for my own ticket and requested a media kit, asked for the pr person and yes, I like so many others took pictures. There were hardly enough programs, maybe 25% of people were able to purchase one. I just wanted to write a story. There were about 10 goons around me, two very hateful black women, police officer, security and production member, I was told there was no media there, they had no press kits, nothing with the cast members names. Perry had been on stage preaching about being helpful to others and his goons treated me like a criminal. I agree with Magaret Agee, he forgot where he came from…I used to promote his first plays, years ago. I won’t let this deter me, as his message suggests I shouldn’t. We know when black folks get big…

  • gigi hyman

Please put me om the mailing list

    Hello Tyler,

I have seen many of your plays since retiring from the military five years ago. This play was absolutely amazing, my only regret was having to sit in the nose bleed section :) but that was fine also. I am waiting for my husband to get back from Kuwait so I can go again, so see you in Atlanta in April.

I pray for your strength because I know how the lose of a parent can affect us. I still miss my mom and that was five years ago and my dad passed last year. I am 44 years old and there are times when I feel “like a motherless child” but I have God, a loving family, and peace in knowing that they are alive in me.

    Love you brother,

    Darlene

Your calendar states that the new play will be in Maryland April 22-25, 2010 @ the Lyric theatre. However this play is not listed on the Lyric schedule. Has the date been changed? I can’t wait to see the new Madea. Please provide me with the correct information. My mom is a very big Tyler Perry fan and her birthday is in April. This would be a wonderful present for her. I look forward to your response.

    Hey Tyler,
Thank you for using the “gift” that God has given you to touch others. I recently was priviledged to see your latest play “Madea’s Big………….. and it was great. I’m sorry to hear you had lost your mother. The loss of someone so great in your life is not always easy. It really touched me when you shared at the end that this was your inspiration for this play. I too lost my mother at the age of 64 and her death was not only sudden but tragic. My sister, my brother and I have not come to complete healing as of yet,” but with God everything is possible.” I just really enjoyed how you kept it real, especially when you improvised. Oh and the music and the singing was (as we say old school) “OFF THE HOOK!!” Again thank you for using your talents and giving so many the oppurtunity to do so as well. God bless you and yours.

  • kiki

hello what happen to you coming to jersey

  • Kathy Santisteban

I have been trying to find out where you would be since the 1st fo Feb. It is not easy to find the dates, at least for me. I called numberous “friends” , who apparently knew but did not tell me. I thought I had found Christmas early last week when I found TBN had your movies + “Meet the Brown”. I was renting your movies, unaware that you had a TV Prog. That is how I found out about your play. It is impossible how you have changed my life ( & am sure many others). You have raised my self esteem & are setting new postive body immage types. It is incrediable in this country how people have equated weight with worth. There are so many people who don’t want to devulge their humble origins. My 1st childhood memories where the projects in Chattanooga. My best friend was “Lilly Mae”, and my pets were giant roatches. I would wake up at night crying for potatoes (because we could only afford beans).
Things move up. I mean up North. We moved in to Cabrini Green, Chicago. There the pet they did get they weren’t allowed to keep to they cooked them in the tub & ate them, like our neighbors who had a pet pig, then a pet rooster.
It is funny when you are finally in aposition to enjoy life (eat what you want, don’t exercise) you either worried about your weight for other people or you feel guilty. I noticed the other night on your show that you seemed a little self-concious about your weight ( grief weight). We are all watching you and your reactions to your body image. First you are not over weight, and I squirmed when you said that as I lost my Dad March 5th, 2008 & 3 months later my mother fell off the cliff with Alzheimers. I have gained 30 lbs., but your movies have inspired me more than I can express. I hope to now purchase tickets to your play, as laughter is healing & you have certainly helped me more than any Dr. or med.s., but I must say a nip once and again won’t kill you.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
    Kathy Santisteban

  • Elaine Holmes

I have missed your plays and glad you are back on tour. Will you be coming to Grand Rapids or Kalamazoo, MI anytime this year because we would truly love to see your plays.

I have seen other plays and went to one play in Grand Rapids starring Gerald Levert before he passed and we couldn’t see them perform because of some difficulties, which took over one hour for them to tell us and it was a packed house; even if they had sent him out to sing a couple of songs would have been fine. I made up my mind that evening, that I was not going to anymore plays unless Tyler Perry’s name was on it.

Keep up the good work and may GOD continue to bless you real good.

  • Nathan terry

  • Tina

Hello Tyler, Thank you so much for coming to Norfolk, Virginia. I just left your show. It was fantastic!
All of your actors/singers are “A plus” quality performers. I told a lady behind me that your show was worth every brown penny. I could see this show over and over again. I support your shows/movies. I will definitely purchase a copy of this play when it comes out on DVD. Please continue to keep up the good work. On behalf of the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, we truly love you (smile) . Please come back and see us soon. Take care……. Tina

  • Deborah Williams

I would like to know when will the play come to San Antonio, Texas? My son, Damani Green that has Down Syndrome is Madea’s biggest fan. He would really like to meet her. I really love your plays. They have really helped me in my life, if only they could help me with the man of my dreams. I know Madea says to “set and wait work on myself.”

  • VAL

I like the play but next time you come to Buffalo, NY come on a weekend Friday or Saturday. The ticket prices were to much. If i wanted to look at a screen i could of waited for the DVD to come out. Go back to having the plays at Shea’s Performance Arts. Yes you will need to do two shows but that’s ok.
At least we will be able to have a better view of the play and you will not have to charge as much for the tickets.i know that you have to make money but everyone is not as fortune as others. So for the ones who are not that fortune and who really enjoy going to the plays please give this some thought. God Bless

  • Pamela Brinson

I pray that your tour includes South Florida as one of your stops…”Fellow Angel”

  • yolonda

this was by far the best play yet. i recommend everyone to see it live

  • J Bess

Recently saw the show at the Liacouras Center. To “FUNNY” and the singing was off the hook.
Mr. Perry is a man of many talents. Please add me to the mailing list, I plan on seeing every play I can afford “smile”.

Didn’t enjoy the Liacouras Center venue and had to sit in the parking garage for almost an hour before getting out. I had seats on the side of the stage next time I’ll be sure to see the plays at a theater.

  • Cee Bee

    @Margaret Agee:
Did you even see it yet? Don’t down it because I saw it last night and I tell you — I OWE TYLER SOME MORE MONEY – I was one that complained in the beginning but after what I saw, it was well worth it – even in a thunderstorm!

  • Taynara

  • Toya C

I went to see the play ” Madea’s Big Happy Family” on Mother’s Day at The Fox Theatre @ 3pm. I went to church laughed and cried and came to the play and did the same. I love Tyler Perry’s plays and his movies. The last movie I seen of his is, “Why did I get Married Too?” I can’t begin to tell you how much I loved that movie, but not as much as I love Tyler Perry himself. I didn’t know about the lost of his mother 12-8-2009. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. Keep your head up and let nothing or no one keep you from progressing in what you are doing. May GOD’S Blessings continue to be with you as it always has been. Cause to GOD be your Glory! AMEN

  • Melanie Mason

My husband (Phillip) and I happended to be in Louisville, KY during the time of your play, Madea’s Big Happy Family. We’re from New Orleans but was in town for a Black Fire Fighter’s Conference and we managed to purchase two tickets from one of the firemen in Kentucky.

Needless to say, that was one of the best purchases we made. We both laughed so hard that night. Good thing I brought tissues because I couldn’t stop the tears of laughter from running down my face.

I have always been a big fan of yours, and my sister Carolyn is an even a bigger fan, if that is possible. We both have purchased (not bootlegged) all dvds that we could find that you’ve made and we are always patiently awaiting new projects from you.

So keep doing what you do and don’t stop producing those great hits, because be assured, me and my family are great fans!!

Your loyal and devoted fan, Melanie Mason

  • Cynthia Zeigler

A group of us attended your play at Verizon Center in DC and we really enjoyed the messages and play. My mother died in 2004 and I just removed her belonging from our house. We never taught that our mother was going to die because she was our “ALL and ALL” a very strong open women. She helped many people. When she passed we know that people can die. You will get a feeling of emptiness within you soul, but with time this will pass. I cried because I am a feeler of love and sadness. Keep making movies and plays because you are employing “Black people”. I will pay the money to employ my bothers and sisters. Thanks

  • TUIREAUX DEBROW

  • Gail Brown

Loved Madea’s Big Happy Family. Staging was wonderfully done at the Garden. I am so glad I saw the Sunday afternoon show. You were on FIAH! Your cast spectacular! I didn’t like that Cassie as Bam was high through most the play though. As for Spike Lee that crab in a barrel analogy was on point. Too bad that he doesn’t know it takes more than crab to make the wonderful gumbo that the African American world of entertainment is. There is room for every ingredient!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://jlsnyder55@hotmail.com Janet Snyder

Went to see Tyler’s new play. IT WAS WONDERFUL!! He is so talented. You cry and you laugh. The messages in the play really hit home. When Tyler goes off script it is a hoot! What a Good man.

  • MARSHA AVERY

Mr. Tyler, Thank you for the messages in this last play. I have a 8yr. old son name Zion and he really was testing me(I’m the young verison of Madea) I almost had to call the “Real” Madea directly to bail me out of jail (smile) . So we were watching the play, and Zion states” mommie Madea said the same things you be telling me”. Then, Zion said “I sorry mommie for no listening to you and I gonnna listen to you and be your sweet baby boy ; pray for me mommie”. Then he give me a big hug and said “I love my mommie, you so good to me mommie”. So keep working the plays and the movies because ” Our Babies” are listening! I hope Zion and I get to enjoy a “live” play n the future. MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS YOU AND CONTINUE TO ENLARGE YOUR TERRITORY AND MINISTRY ! ” WOW” BIG HAPPY BIG HAPPY FAMILY! THE #1 BEST!

  • romonda

I have been a fan of Tyler Perrys’, since the very beginning. I really enjoy his work and is inspires to write by it. I am now working on my first play. I would like to know how and what do I need to do
as a writer. I am in fear of who to trust with my work. I have so many people telling me what I should do and how I should do. Neither one of them have anything about writing. I don’t want you to think that I want for you to give me a job or anything. I just need some guidance. But on the real I just want to let you how much I love your messages that are them all.

Dear Tyler Perry, I am a divorced mother of three teenage boys and one daughter rising them can sometimes be a challenge. However your plays has adding thought and morals to their life and mine. Your movie Diary of a Mad Black Woman brought me to tears.Since it was like reliving my marriage all over again. Please send me an email when your next play is coming to Miami I would love to purchase tickets for my children. You speak on things that touches the soul and inspires women such as myself that have survived abusive relationships. Thank you for your plays and your movies. God bless you and all that you do. Thank you for reading this.

Hello Mr: Perry can I say this ti you I never been ablr to see your plays, I promise the dear Lord that if your play would ever hit Rochester New York, I swear I’ll go and see it . You knoww that I was born in Charity Hospital on July 1, 1946. My mother been to your movies more then me, I’ve never been to any of your plays and as for me is concern I love your plays better then I love your movies. We use to live on South Rampart Street. and when I visit my Grandmother in New Orleans Louisianna we were living at 3332 Felicianna st, right there at Desire Street and we live a long ways from Gentilly Junction and my Aunt walk me a long ways ,I never walk that far before and there was a little canal that was at the end of Felicianna street that led across to the school and the Name of the School was George Washington Carver Jr,and Sr. and Elementry school, But I do want to see Modea’s Big Happy Family , what I like a bout that plays is Jeffery Lewis and his partner and don’t forget the Lady that play as his mother. I like when she sung that song about HEAVENS Waiting . Jeffery Lewis sing Cause I Love you by Lenny Williamsand the Old school especially when the lady brother sing that song by Teddy Pendergrass Turn off the Light and light the candle then at the end of the song him and his brother says hay Trick.
