Yeah I agree the black community seems to think it’s a-ok to beat up on woman, it’s sick and disgusting and exactly why Black Americans are still as low as they are on the totem pole in America, then you turn around and look down on people like Oprah {for being successful} and not talking like a uneducated simpleton and Rihanna who was beaten nearly to the point of death but SOMEHOW it’s her fault. Yeah just a heads up from the Canadian side, you are never going to get a leg up with that misogynistic attitude. You’ve been letting the black american men lead for well over a century now and look where it’s got you, what’d it get you- spousal abuse, what’d it get you -AIDS, what’d it get you- absentee fathers, what’d it get you-bitchwhoresluttramp jokes and rap songs! Please! Time to step back black men and let the black woman take the reins and their rightful place to lead you out of this travesty.

@Queen-My question to you is why must Rihanna lie? She told her side of the story and the reason why she came forward. She admitted she did not hit him it was verbal yet she is not believed why? Oh I’m sorry Chris can never do anything like that unless she did something to him right? Now this was not Chris first time laying hands on her, in the police report she clearly states he shoved her before, did you miss that part too or she is lying. My point here is that a woman told her side of the story about what happened to her and everyone points the finger that she is not telling the truth. Why is that? If women tells on their abuser and they are told they are a whore and liers than who is willing to come out to share this this info? What message are we sending to others? What does she need to accept partial for, for arguing with him? You never had an arguement with boyfriend, or family or friends? I guess that means they should kill you huh, how dare you argue with them right? This conversation is not about women who beats on their men. This is about women who are physically abuse by their boyfriend, spouse friends or whatever.

Have you ever been in a traumatic situation? I hope for your sake you never have to see that day. It mentally strews you. Rihanna writing about suicide or singing about it, that is normal for someone who has been abuse, and writing and singing about it helps to get that out their system. Many reacts differently, many becomes violence, many lose their minds you never can know what to expect when someone has been abuse in that manner. Chris does not have to sing about suicide as someone did not try to kill him. What if she has an anger problem? Should that too be a reason for somone trying to kill her? We all know men are stronger than women physically it is a known fact. So if a child says something bad to their parents should the parent kill the child? Or beat them until they have to seek help? What you are talking about have nothing to do with Rihanna issue, she told her story and the fact is you dont believe her and you felt she provoked him and so she got what she deserve. I would hope your daughter, niece or whom ever would not ever be in that situation and than be told by you that you dont believe her or she did something to deserve it and she needs to admit it. Rihanna can deal with how ever she chose to deal with what happened to her, as it happened to her not Chris. It is all a part of the healing process. I hope you never find yourself in this situation and after telling your story you have everyone telling you that you did something and you’re not innocent. I for one believe her and I have no reason not to. If this happened to Chris and he came out and told his story I would believe him as well, why doubt the victim? Oh because she is a whore. I guess this means that if a woman dress sexy and goes out she deserves to be raped and when she tells her story we would tell her well it is her fault because she dressed sexy she was looking for it, why else would a man do that to her right? Please stop the ignorance!

I totally agree with this post

Rihanna after the incident was out partying clubbing wearing provocative clothing and now all of a sudden she is Woman of the Year!! Striaght after the incident she went back to Chris
She has never once said that she would help people who have been in her situtation, she has never once said that should would organise a charity or do speeches to create awareness for domestic abuse yet she goes and makes devil music with the likes of Jay Z.

I am not saying that what Chris did was right and he has a long way to go until people trust let alone start to like him again but there are different ways to handling the situation not doing an interview nearly 9 months after the incident and 2 weeks from when your album is about to launch. Personally i also think rihanna should change the way she presents herself because she doesn’t give herself a good luck when she wears tops with her nipples on show, naked photos.

I think it should be put behind them and they should concentrate on what they love their music and that is what people should judge them on

omg. i never realized all these things. i just kept thinking that chris was wrong. but its actually rihanna. im not saying wat chris did was right. but what rihanna is isnt right either. shes already getting so much sympathy and what does chris get? “woman beater” “i hate you” … in the interview rihanna says “i love and care for him” so it seems like shes so good and nice. if she really “loves and cares” about chris then why is she not telling the truth and admitting it was somewhat her fault too. i was looking forward to buying her album but now im gonna support chris cuz atleast he told the truth and admitted that he was wrong.

Wow! I read this and it brought tears to my eyes. Black women we are our worst enemy. It is truly sad to see that someone can be beaten to point of no recognition and yet she is at fault. Chris had to give interviews he was the batterer he had to make sure his image was not tarnished, if you really felt he was doing interviews to help others I doubt it. The other day I was listening to Steve Harvey and even he was amazed at all the callers telling Rihanna to shut her trap I was so disgusted I had to turn it off. Everyone knows that men are stronger than women, they have estrogen in them when a man turns violent he can kill a woman. Even if it is the case she had hit him before look what was done to her, she could’ve been killed. Yet everyone is attacking her. I guess if she was killed than people would find that he really did something wrong right? Chris could not tell the whole story because again he is the batterer they cannot go into details to cover themselves they say out of respect for the other person. What was done to her is done in black community every day and these girls walk around with their head down because they feel did must have done something to be beaten to that point and this is the main reason why. We still have that nigger mentality that we have no respect for ourselves and our women until we can think outside the box it will never change. EVERYONE GO OUT AND BUY CHRIS BROWN MUSIC BECAUSE HE SAID HE WAS SORRY ALTHOUGH THAT WAS NOT HIS FIRST LAYING HANDS ON RIHANNA. @Tell The Truth Even If It Hurt: I’m cosigning with you on this. I get so aggravated when a woman (prevalently AA,) have the audacity to say “it’s never ok for a man to hit a woman!” We are living in the 21st century where females are in combat positions in Afghanistan & Iraq & previously the Gulf war. We women fought for our rights to be equal with men. Younger or ignorant women are clueless to this struggle, which we as women triumphed over the injustices & inequalities that even kept us from voting!. This is not to say men have a right to hit us, nor does it say we have a right to hit them. Violence of any kind, esp in domestic situations (which includes; parents, siblings & relatives,) is not acceptable! With Rihanna being so angry & profuse about letting go of her accusations toward Chris about the significance of a text message, clearly signifies she used violence as she became more angry with him not admitting guilt. She just doesn’t feel that what she did was as bad as he did to her because he wasn’t suppose to ever hit her back in the first place. She slipped in her interview when she said “so what if I did slap him, that gives him a right to do this to me?” Hmmm, I was always taught, “what you send out, come back to you…” Now for the younger and/or more naive females that have never seen someone after they’ve been brutally beaten, may I suggest that you visit local shelters & see first hand the results of abusers whose intentions were to cause great physical harm. You may see Rihanna’s injuries weren’t nearly what others have experienced, esp coming from a trained martial artist & boxer. That’s not to lesson them, but to shed additional light on how they may have been more defensive than anything (esp the bites.) People were shocked that this woman of “beauty”, strength & celebrity could ever sustain such injuries. However, at the end of the day, that picture accomplished what it set out to do, destroy another AA man, Chris Brown. It’s intention was never to help Robyn Rihanna Fenty…

I am so glad that someone wrote this and article, and I find it so sad that people really don’t care that Rihanna did it for publicity! WTF? This is why I hate the media and the manufactured part of the music industry. They feed you guys bs and y’all accept it. It is a “smart” move to try to get sympathy votes, and that’s a shame that y’all think it’s normal and are willing to accept it.

Point blank, Rihanna shouldn’t went on the show and tried to act like she was such a victim and tore Chris apart. I don’t even like Chris, when he was big in 06 and 07 I wished that his career would be over, but lately I’ve been supporting him because we all make mistakes, some bigger than others, and I find it funny that rappers can get away with drug and gun charges from fans but Chris loosing it on someone who obviously provoked him, can’t?

Rihanna didn’t want her business being put out, but when she doesn’t have any recent publicity surrounding her, she needs something to hype up her career again? Rihanna is no way shape or form a good role model for young girls. Her, like many other female musicians’, image is so nasty and inappropriate. I just seen a single cover of her with her ass and coochie hanging out! It’s crazy because people will ignore a female’s dirtiness when it comes to sympathy.

Her music and lyrics are bubblegum, her image is disgusting, her voice is atrocious… how could anyone be a fan? Glamour just feed into the hype of the “domestic violence” abuse. Oh and for those who still think that she “helped young girls” why is it that she just recent released a statement saying that she was “not going to be a spokesperson for domestic abuse, because that’s not who she is.” WTF???? If you really had an abusive relationship, not just a crazy fight, you would’ve visited shelters for battered women, visited Girls Incs and schools and kept on talking about it! Alicia Keys is a home wrecker, but do you hear her announce, “oh yea, I just wanted to let everyone know about the homeless people in Africa, but I’m not going to donate anything, because I can’t relate, I’m rich????

BTW, can people stop blaming the support for Chris on blacks??? I was on imagine site (a white magazine) and perezhilton and they said the same things!!!

@Tigger10: Thank you for sharing ur story. I too was a victim of DV & know Rihanna’s leaving a lot out & exaggerating a lot also. Her story about her only thinking when is it gonna be over may be true since she probably felt she was gonna be the only one throwing punches, so it wouldn’t take that long. Yes, this interview failed to cover the fact that she had bruised knuckles & when asked how she sustained them, she told the police she was defending herself. She told Diane she did not hit him at all . I wonder why since most people would have done that. Rather than calling 911 or HER BODYGUARD, she called her assistant? WTH FOR? Was she so traumatized she forgot 9-1-1? Im sure she has her security on speed dial also. Then there’s the biggest puzzle to this whole incident i.e why wasn’t assault charges pressed against Chris when he was arrested? We saw the picture of her but what NO ONE has seen is a picture of him. Its obvious he had some pretty intense wounds also, or yes, he would have been charged with assault immediately…Where Im fm, the police dont discriminate. They wil charge a female as they do a male depending on who initiated the altercation of who’s injured. THERE IS NO LAW THAT SAYS ITS ILLEGAL FOR A MAN TO HIT A WOMAN IN SELF DEFENSE. Maybe it took the LAPD fm the beginning of Feb to the end of April to charge Chris bcuz they were waiting til his wounds healed. Idk but if she’s such a “role model” for DV victims, the 1st thing she should’ve done is press charges & dont try & have a Order Of Protection, specifically for her benefit, removed. This story says everything I feel is true from day one. i’m a victim of horrible domestic violennce by my ex-husband resulting in broken bones, loose teeth & injuries while pregnant & in no no way shape or form feel DV is ok. But if anyone looks at the real picture instead of trashing Chris Brown maybe they can come to the same conclusion that most people came too. Their are 3 sides to a story & so far we have only heard Rihanna’s which I think is bullshit. Who accuses their man of cheating & won’t let it go & doesn’t provoke or hit the other person? So I am a CB fan & he admitted his mistakes which is something my abuser never did at the age of 39 & given the chance would do it again. So kudos to CB for standing up. thankyou for telling the truth! alot of ppl keep holding on to the names involved insted of looking at the situation for what it is. 20yr old girl who has been dating 19yr old boy for 2 years finds text in his phone from his ex! He lies about it , she knows he’s lying cause she saw it and wont drop it. NOW YOU KNOW…Im 22 with a 20 year old boyfriend im going ham if i see anything in his phone and we have been dating a year (I wouldnt even look in his phone!)..at that age love will makes you act a fool. Ive known girls to brake windows , bleach clothing, show up to a mans job rasing hell , Ive heard it all so ppl really need to stop living in a dream world . This is what kids do period..im not that far away in age from rihanna and ive also dated someone in the entertainment industry. It all good on the outside but inside as a female you are worried and you arent confident because women are throwing themselves at your man. All you have to go on is what your man says and she caught him lying . Rihanna is full of it !!!! She got in his face ..mushed him slapped him… something! She is lying!… There is no way she wasnt angry. It a natural reaction.. I got some friends from the islands who would say the same thing.. Island girls act a fool anyway! I was mad at the interview because she could have taken some of the blame.. what does I wouldnt let it go mean??? duhhhh.. Seriously? Chris took the high road and decided NOT to discuss what happened in the car that night. Up until her new album, Rhianna chose to not even talk about it. NOW all of a sudden she’s ready for an interview with Diane Sawyer? For those of you that say it’s not about her album, why didn’t she do the interview when CB did Larry King? or before? Because she has an album out. Now she’s a victim. As I said once it happened, what they do is their business. We are all flies on the wall speculating about their lives. Rhianna provoked him. I was a 20 year old woman with a man that got a a txt from another girl, I know how it goes. She’s fulla crap and she’s gonna be exposed for it. Too bad we didn’t get to see CB’s face that night. So I would think that constitutes to me liking both of them even if I don’t consider myself a “fan”. I think both artists have made good and bad music. I hate Rihanna’s voice but love some of her hits. I think Chris’ voice sounds whiny at times but that doesn’t stop me from listening to “Crawl”. So I definitely don’t NOT like Rihanna.

And yes, can we stop the whole black/white thing? That has nothing to do with my thoughts on this nor will it ever!

I used to have tons a sympathy for this girl, but as time went by, I really started to see what kind a person she really is, and that interview just turned my assumption into a fact. If you have to throw Chris under the bus to put yourself in a better light, then your know better than he is. With that being said, I wish her the best of luck, because she is going to need it. And as for Chris, he has been really trying to prove he wants to change, so enough is enough. I support him, and will continue to do so until the end of time…..

All you so fans can stop spurting hate, because that is not what CB is about. He admited to the crime and is trying to make himself a better person. I think he should get rid of all the negative influences around him (eg those tweeters). If drug addict goes to rehab and returns to hang with the same drug addict friends his recovery wont last for long.

WE SHOULD HAVE A PETITION FOR CB TO EMPLOY POSITIVE THING PEOPLE AROUND HIM.

Some of those tweeters sounds to me like they were jealous of CB relationship. Why? maybe he wasn’t hanging with them as often as he used before he fell in love.

I have friends who tell me when I am wrong and I appreciate them. He admitted that he was wrong yet still the people around him are still in denial. U are not helping CB. This goes for those dancers etc.

This is the first time I have ever felt compelled to comment on an article, but I am so disgusted by this whole situation. It is obvious that you do not like Rihanna and will see anything that she does in a negative light. It is even sicker that you basically try to excuse Chris’ behavior, by making up a scenario in your head to excuse Chris brutally beating his girlfriend. I have to say it is very disappointing that I see many in the urban community reacting to this very common problem by blaming the victim. It is shameful. None of us know what happened in that car, but let’s state some FACTS instead of imagining possibilities to justify Chris’ behavior.
1. You cannot “provoke” someone to do what Chris did. Like Rihanna said, even if she did hit him, nothing would excuse what he did to her. He has a problem. Chris did not have one scratch except for his bruised knuckles from beating her face in. We all saw what a mangled mess Chris did to her face. CHRIS IS RESPONSIBLE. For the most part, men are much stronger than women, which is why, even if a woman slapped her man he will always be found guilty for her injuries because IT IS NOT SELF DEFENSE. If a child (a weaker individual) came and slapped me, I would not proceed to beat their face in. This is so ridiculous. Now if Chris had some injuries as well, I would see your point, but he didn’t and you better believe if he did, his lawyer would have worked that self defense angle in a heartbeat. Rihanna didn’t do shit to that boy and in most DV cases that is how it is. It’s not about the fight, it is about power and Rihanna had the nerve to question him about his cheating.
2. Chris pled guilty to domestic violence. He didn’t make any excuses, so why are you making excuses for him.
3. Rihanna said she didn’t hit him and it was a verbal argument. Chris has not said otherwise because he knows he will be laughed at by people with sense if he came out and said, “yeah my gf slapped me so I beat her up”.
4. Most DV cases, the first instance of violence comes out of the blue just like Chris and Rihanna. I advise you to do our research before you spew this nonsense.
5. She could not do her promo until she talked about the situation. Period. Rihanna didn’t mention her album once in the interview and yet Chris had had about 5 songs out since it happened and been on about 5 interviews. If anything, Chris is using this situation for promo.

Chris Brown did, and to make sure he doesn’t do it again he is going to court ordered domestic violence counseling that he agreed to in which he himself says is helping. He also said on Larry King he thinks his violent behavior was a result of his mother’s abusive past. He’s not a saint and that’s okay, but we don’t have to drag the victim through the mud cause she does one interview discussing the details of an ordeal that he confirmed by pleading guilty and that none of us witnessed.

Oh Wow. I am a HUGE Chris Brown fan, and I still accept what he did was totally wrong. Seriously, stop making excuses for him and trying to put the blame on Rihanna. But Rihanna admitted in the interview that he had never hit her before. Now you do the math, who just comes out one day and wilds out on someone that they love. Her own father said that Chris was nothing but a gentleman to her. And as for his friends, all of them have been on stage and close quarters with both of these people, of course they know what both of them are like. I don't see any of her people coming out and saying anything different about him. Go back and listen to the interview again and have an open mind along with an open ear. And see don't you get a better picture of what happened.

Rihanna is a victim, you should remember that. The case was before courts, therefore, neither Rihanna Nor CB could have spoken out about it until it ended. When did the case end. Victims need time to heal. It doesn’t mean that Rihanna has fully healed from this experience as yet because she says the episode play back in her mind when ever she look at the photo from TMZ or when the incident is mentioned. The Domestic Abuse hotline and help line are recieving increased calls since her interview. Instead of trying to focus on the negative focus on the positive. What have you done to try to help someone less fortunate? Both CB and Rihanna are trying. You should focus your energy on tying to do that as well.

I must start by saying, this sight needs to terminate this contributor. If you are going to post a story, the least you could have done was research the facts in this case. In Rihanna 20/20 interview she stated that “THEY WERE BOTH EQUALLY DANGEROUS IN THE RELATIONSHIP” therefore anything CB employees have to say would be things that accured before the incident. In the police report (check TMZ) it stated that when CB had her in a head lock,(If you don’t know what a headlock is look it up) she tried to get him to release her by pulling on his hand and tried to poke him in the eye, that was when he bit her.

The glamour woman of the year were give for a number reason, her work with her foundation that helped Jasmina to receive a bone marrow doner, her fashion, her selling over 12 million albums etc.
GET YOUR FACTS – VIOLENCE IS UNACCEPTABLE UNDER ANY LEVEL. Third, this is promotional because her album is coming out on the 23 of November and she is just now doing an interview? That’s not a coincidence, use that pitiful thing you call a brain. Chris did several interviews before it was announced when his album would even come out, which proves who actually cares beyond their career.

Regardless of the motives behind either of them doing interviews the following facts remain:

1. Chris Brown physically assualted Rihanna.
2. Chris Brown plead guilty to assaulting Rihanna.
3. Chris Brown willingly accepted a guilty plea deal.
4. The detailed police report of how Chris Brown assault Rihanna is public record.
5. There is a photo showing Rihanna’s beaten face.
6. Judge Schnegg sentenced Chris Brown to community service, domestic violence counseling for a year and 5 years probation because of his actions.

Like it or not, Glamour magazine decided to award Rihanna, just like some of us are happy or unhappy when a candidate is elected president. We’re all entitled to our opinions and need to move on. Maybe in the future boys will consider what they stand to lose before they decide to abuse women.

I don’t understand how Rihanna is Woman of the Year.For what? I do thank her for speaking on how domestic violence isn’t right,but did she actually do anything? No.Her words won’t always change the lives of those suffering who went through it more than once.So what is she the Woman of the Year for,wearing see through outfits,attending clubs and fashion events?

I think that many of you, who have commented on this article, judging Rhianna, may have closed issues within yourself. Nothing that happened in February, between these two individuals, was ok or right. However, one lost control regardless. Another thing, people have their own ways with how they want to cope with a tragic event.

Like I said in my previous post, we were not there. We don’t know what was going on in their lives. How do we know Rhianna is lying? Any of you here a human polygraph? Wow….any of you have kids? Daughters? Have any of you been in an abusive relationship?

Maybe you will feel different if your daughter was in a similar incident, or if you were. Many of the posts on this site show anger and hatred for some reason.
