Rihanna // 2009 American Music Awards (Show)

We really wish people would stop throwing around the phrases “comeback” or “comeback performance” when mentioning Rihanna. Why? Because she didn’t go anywhere! In fact, ever since that whole Chris Brown beat down thing, she’s been at the top of blogs AT LEAST once a week (sometimes daily).

With that said, her performance at the 2009 American Music Awards Sunday night (Nov 22) was okay if you only factor in the theatrics (lighting, costume, set, her “Rated R” temporary tat, etc.). As usual, her vocals were … “blah” and at the end no one even stood up. The majority of the audience actually appeared to be bored and looked like they wanted RiRi to hurry up and finish her set, which included her debut single “Wait Your Turn” and the Young Jeezy featured bangerHard.” Jeezy didn’t come out for the performance, but if he did … he probably would have added some much needed value.

Rihanna’s fourth studio album Rated R hits stores today (Nov 23)!

Adam Lambert // 2009 American Music Awards (Show)

Simply judging by the picture above, we bet you already know openly gay singer Adam Lambert’s performance of his debut single “For Your Entertainment” was far from “the usual!” Between him kissing boys and walking them likes dogs, dragging women on the floor and pretending like he was getting some dome from a dancer, we didn’t know what to think! But according to Lambert himself, he doesn’t give two sh*ts about what anyone thinks about his performance, which despite all of the craziness, was pretty good. But uhh … back to that “kiss,” which the American Idol runner-up says wasn’t even supposed to happen!

Adam Lambert’s sexually suggestive choreography — including kissing another male — on the American Music Awards stage Sunday night happened “in the moment,” the singer told CNN. Lambert, who is openly gay, said it is “a form of discrimination and a double standard” for anyone to object since “women performers have been pushing the envelope” for decades.

This guy is already pushing the envelope and he JUST released his first single! Can you say; “Male Lady Gaga” ??? Adam’s debut album For Your Entertainment is set to drop today (Nov 23) so his performance and the buzz he’s getting right now because of it was GENIUS!

Other performers who took the stage last night were country music singer Carrie Underwood, producer/rapper Timbaland and Colombian singing sensation Shakira. Carrie performed her “Cowboy Casanova” single while Timbo opted to premiere his hot new single “Morning After Dark” with the help of Nelly Furtado and newcomer SoShy, who are both featured on the track. And Shakira sang her new song “Give It Up to Me” after her “Stomp The Yard” esque opening routine.

Black Eyed Peas // 2009 American Music Awards (Show)

The Black Eyed Peas took the stage last night at the 2009 American Music Awards, held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. The highly successful “hip-pop” group managed to take over the Billboard charts for the majority of the year and Will.i.am let it be known at the end of their their performance medley of two of their chart-topping singles, “Meet Me Halfway” and “Boom Boom Pow,” when he shouted “Six months #1! The new kings!

Legendary R&B singer Whitney Houston performed “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength,” from her new album I Look To You. Her vocals weren’t all that great, but it was her “comeback performance” (as far as awards shows are concerned) and at least she wasn’t high on drugs or anything. So we definitely give her an A for effort, keeping in mind that she’s gotten older now (and she used to smoke rocks back in the day) so her voice isn’t EVER going to be like it used to be. At the end of her performance, which was met with a standing ovation from the audience, actor Samuel L. Jackson presented her with the “International Award of Excellence.”

R&B singer/songwriter Mary J. Blige flawlessly performed her new single “I Am” and hit every single note perfectly. Her new album Stronger withEach Tear (originally titled simply “Stronger”) is due to be released on December 22nd.

And pop-rock singer Kelly Clarkson’s performance of “Already Gone” was also good, even if the song sounds like Halo Part 2. We’ll even give her a pass on her rapid weight gain (homegirl must like to eat!) because we all know she can blow!

Judging by this picture alone (and the fact that he has like 10 kids by 20 different women) the ladies love Lil Wayne! He should think about changing his name to LL Cool D (LOL). Toni Braxton & Trey Songz at the 2009 Soul Train Music Awards

R&B singer Toni Braxton called into The Wendy Williams Show the other day and Wendy went right in on what everybody wants to know: how is she doing now that she’s “separated” from her husband of 8 years and was the Trey Songz kiss at the Soul Train awards behind their separation?

Toni Braxton: I’m a little sad about it. I really don’t like being separated, I enjoyed being married but we are definitely separated. We’re great friends and we have kids together and we still work together, but um, yeah we are separated.

Wendy Williams: But he was there at the Soul Train Awards.

Toni: Yes.

Wendy: What did he say about that kiss?

50 Cent // Power by Fifty Fragrance Launch

Hits Daily Double is projecting that 50 Cent’s new album Before I Self Destruct is only set to push about 150,000 – 160,000 copies, which at 50’s caliber would most likely be considered a “flop,” especially with all of the jokes he makes about other artist’s and their album sales. But despite his album’s new flop status, Curtis says he’s not really worried about it, even though all of his albums prior to this one have sold more than half a million copies in their first week of release.

“Well, the reports from Hits Daily Double, I don’t actually know what to anticipate from the actual sales of this project,” 50 told BET. “It’s obvious, the project just came out a month earlier than what was actually anticipated. The actual project is arguably my best work, to have the general public respond the way they’ve responded to it,” 50 continued. “I haven’t heard anything negative about my choices artistically, so if I was in the space where I absolutely needed finances from the actual sales of the record, it might mean something, but if it offers the material that I can go out and perform and make everyone enjoy themselves as much as I enjoyed myself making it, Ill be happy with it.”

50 Cent’s debut album Get Rich or Die Tryin opened its first week with over 870,000 copies sold, while his next two albums, The Massacre and Curtis sold 1.14 million copies and 691,000 copies, respectively. So yeah … 150,000 is a flop for 50 Cent. Too bad he’s so far in denial he doesn’t realize it!
