Chris Brown was formally sentenced in the high-profile case surrounding him and ex-girlfriend Rihanna Tuesday afternoon (Aug 25) at the Superior Court of Los Angeles County. The 20-year-old entertainer was sentenced to 5 years of probation, 6 months of community labor, and was ordered to stay away from Rihanna while he’s on probation. The two must stay at least 50 yards (300 feet) form each other, except at industry events where the distance is reduced to 10 yards (about 30 feet). In addition, Chris and Rihanna must not communicate with each other, whether indirectly or directly.

The judge presiding over the case stressed to Chris and his attorneys that if any of these orders are broken, Chris will be sent to state prison, no questions asked. And just so Chris Brown doesn’t think he can get away with sneaking around to meet with Rihanna, Judge Schnegg told him this:

”I am not amused with the chatter that has been on the airwaves and any violation of your probation in this case comes with the potential for state prison.”

Brown will be able to complete his 180 days of community labor in his home state of Virginia where it will be overseen by the police chief in Richmond. Judge Patricia Schnegg said she wanted to make sure he performs physical labor instead of regular “community service.” He will also undergo a year of domestic violence counseling. The hearing was originally planned for Thursday afternoon (Aug 27) but was pushed up two days at the request of Chris’ lawyer, Mark Geragos.
