Leave your Happy Birthday messages for Rihanna in the comments. Please know that comments on this post will be monitored heavily and anything inappropriate will be deleted … so don’t even try.
Rihanna’s dad, Ronald Fenty, who’s been getting a lot of press lately, spoke to People earlier today expressing his distaste for the LAPD’s leak of the graphic photo of Rihanna’s bruises.
“Sloppy work on their part,” says Ronald Fenty, speaking to PEOPLE via telephone from Barbados Friday, shortly after the emergence of a graphic photo Thursday reportedly showing Rihanna’s injuries from the alleged assault by boyfriend Chris Brown.
The picture is a close-up of a young woman with her eyes closed, bruises on her forehead, and cuts on her lips and cheeks. Because of the nature of the case, PEOPLE has chosen not to post the photo.
The Los Angeles Police Department issued a statement asking for the public to help with “information concerning the unauthorized release of the photograph.”
“A violation of this type is considered serious misconduct, with penalties up to and including termination,” police said.
We know TMZ paid a pretty penny for that exclusive photo, so whoever gets fired should probably be set for a little while. Or at least until they can find another job.
R&B singer John Legend has publicly spoken out against the New York Post’s failed attempt at a joke. The singer is calling for a boycott against the major publication after they ran a controversial editorial cartoon depicting a monkey shot to death with the caption reading, “They’ll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill.”
Dear Editor:
I’m trying to understand what possible motivation you may have had for publishing that vile cartoon depicting the shooting of the chimpanzee that went crazy. I guess you thought it would be funny to suggest that whomever was responsible for writing the Economic Recovery legislation must have the intelligence and judgment of a deranged, violent chimpanzee, and should be shot to protect the larger community. Really? Did it occur to you that this suggestion would imply a connection between President Barack Obama and the deranged chimpanzee? Did it occur to you that our President has been receiving death threats since early in his candidacy? Did it occur to you that blacks have historically been compared to various apes as a way of racist insult and mockery? Did you intend to invoke these painful themes when you printed the cartoon?
After spending 11 days in intensive care following a plastic surgery procedure that went wrong, Usher’s wife Tameka Raymond was released from a Sao Paulo hospital in Brazil.
According to the Associated Press, a spokeswoman confirmed that Tameka was released on Monday (February 16), but declined to provide any details regarding her treatment. Usher’s camp did not comment at press time. Since being rushed to the hospital during Grammy weekend, it’s been revealed that she had flown to Brazil to undergo a “simple liposuction,” but went into cardiac arrest while being anesthetized. Tameka was placed in an induced coma for 24 hours to stabilize her, while Usher waited by her bedside during recovery.
Usher was scheduled to perform at a pre-Grammy party for Clive Davis, but canceled due to the family emergency. When the news first broke, Usher, through his rep, released this statement: “Tameka Raymond is in stable condition after suffering complications from routine surgery in Brazil. Her husband Usher is with her at the hospital.” The rep also added that the couple do not plan to release any further details and asks for their privacy.

Beyonce said that she doesn’t drink often, but when she does, she says that she’s a pretty boring drunk.
Speaking to Cosmopolitan, the star revealed that she enjoys an occasional glass of wine but considers herself to be a boring drinking partner. “I don’t drink often. But when I’m drunk, I’m very quiet and I observe and I go to sleep,” she said. “I don’t think I’m much fun.”
The “Single Ladies” singer added that she has no intention of ever experimenting with drugs, saying: “I always said I would never do it.
“I’ve never seen a person who was high and thought, ‘Wow, I want to do that!’ I’m like, ‘That’s cool for them, but no thank you. I’ll just have my wine.’”
You remember when Dwyane Wade’s wife Siohvaughnclaimed Dwyane gave her an STD? What about when she went back and dropped those claims … remember that? Well now Dwyane has rounded up more lawyers and his soon-to-be ex wife Siohvaughn is going to have to pay up for attempting to defame his name.
Dwyane Wade sued his estranged wife and two of her lawyers Wednesday over accusations the Miami Heat star contracted a sexually transmitted disease through an extramarital affair. In the lawsuit, a copy of which was obtained by The Associated Press, Wade is seeking at least $50,000 in damages from each defendant. Siohvaughn Wade said last month the player infected her with an unspecified disease in 2007. Weeks later, she withdrew the claim from the court hearing the divorce case for unknown reasons. That wasn’t enough to satisfy the 2006 NBA finals MVP, who said her allegations not only defamed him, but caused “embarrassment” and “humiliation” along with damaging future earning potential.
Rihanna is featured on the cover of the latest issue of People Magazine, which went on sale today. The issue includes an interview with the singer’s family, who said that Chris Brown flew under everyone’s radar. They told People they never thought he’d be the “abusive type.”
Members of Rihanna’s family in her native Barbados thought boyfriend Chris Brown “flew so far under everyone’s radar that we just didn’t think he was that [abusive] type,” a relative tells People for its new cover story, on sale Friday. Brown was arrested Feb. 8 for allegedly assaulting Rihanna in Los Angeles. He has issued a statement of apology, saying he would seek therapy, and he may face charges from the district attorney. The turn of events comes as a shock to the family. “He was always looking after her needs,” says the relative, “making sure she was happy.”
Rihanna, who turns 21 on Friday, and Brown, 19, were a “perfect match,” an MTV veejay tells PEOPLE. Now their future together is unknown. But as far as her father, Ronald Fenty, is concerned, when it comes to Brown, his daughter should “move on.” A relative agrees: “I don’t want her to go back to him. I don’t think anyone does.”
Days before the graphic photo of Rihanna’s facial injuries was released, several stars were asked to weigh in and deliver their thoughts on the situation between Chris Brown and Rihanna, which occured about 2 weeks ago.
Gayle King: “I can’t think of anything that makes me support anything that Chris Brown is saying at this time. And my heart just aches for Rihanna.” (Extra TV)
Mary J. Blige: “They’re both young and beautiful people, and that’s it.”
Nia Long: “I know both of them well. They’re young, and all we can do is pray for them at this point.” (US Magazine)
