I am not quite sure why it surprises people EVERY SINGLE YEAR. The reason? He does not play a SINGLE snap in preseason! So while everyone else (mostly) has gotten their timing and the speed of the game back after a long layoff... LaDainian is 4 preseason games behind. He is always back to his usual form around the 4th game of the season and then becomes unstoppable again. Although, age could be catching up with him (Shawn Alexander anyone?). I do not personally believe it is his age (but he is close to that age where RBs lose a step), but running backs are presently overused and their bodies take a HUGE beating. You have a back that comes into the league... gets that many touches per game for 7-8 years... and what do you expect? 29 in worldly terms is young. Not when your body is used as a ramming device.
