Nas Changes Album Title

What was the most controversial album title in hip hop history has been changed. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that a representative for Def Jam has confirmed to them that Nas has made a decision to change the title of his new album from N*gger to Nas.

Nas recently spoke about the album change saying:

“It’s important to me that this album gets to the fans. It’s been a long time coming. I want my fans to know that, creatively and lyrically, they can expect the same content and the same messages. It’s that important. The streets have been waiting for this for a long time. The people will always know what the real title of this album is and what to call it.”

Dang! I really thought this was gonna go all the way but, I guess not. Hopefully people still go out and support even though there is no big controversy behind it.

FIRST OFF, LET ME SAY….. AS A BLACK MAN, I HATED THE TITLE!!!!!! NEVER LIKED IT, I WAS ALWAYS AGAINST IT! I THINK IT WAS IGNORANT AND DOWNRIGHT STUPID FOR HIM TO NAME IT SUCH A TERRIBLE TERM FOR OUR PEOPLE. BAD EFFIN IDEA.

BUT!

I think that if he was going to go on and name the shit Nigger, he should have fuckin did and stuck with it. Don’t cause controversy and then take it all back. He should have manned up, grabbed his balls, and did what he wanted to do- not backed out of it later. Like I said, hated the idea, but if he was gonna do it, he shoulda did it.

Noo.. you just can’t do that.

He just went back on his own word… I think he doesn’t want to set expectations too high how he said “I want my fans to know that, creatively and lyrically, they can expect the same content and the same messages.” Same content, same messages meaning “N*gger” could’ve been taken (if perceived bad) a bad message packaged with the title. Thus, changing the title. I just think the negative effects of what could happen to his career outweigh the positive things to come from the title.

Either way, if he still rocks the same shirts.. then I think the same general controversy will arise when the album drops.

Uh…I’m not sure why you guys think that Nas made the decision to change the album title. He was overruled by the Def Jam execs. Point blank. Nas would’ve named that album N*gger if it was up to him. His idea obviously didn’t go over well with the head of Def Jam, so they tossed it.

i wasnt for the title either, but i think he should of stuck with it, if that was truly what he felt and he caused all this controversy for nothing.

I think the title was important and probably would have been rather poignant coinciding with the album’s tracks.
