After a little over 3 months on the picket lines, striking members of the Writers’ Guild of America voted approximately 93% in favor to accept a deal with producers to finally end the strike, reports People. The writers are expected to return back to their jobs as early as this week.

The agreement – which still needs to be formally ratified – removes the boycott threat that had been looming over the Feb. 24 Oscars. “I am ecstatic that the 80th Academy Awards presentation can now proceed full steam ahead,” Sid Ganis, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which organizes the ceremony, said in a statement. Under the new deal, producers agreed to give writers a piece of the profit from programs that run on the Internet. Writers also will receive an increase in residual payments for movies and TV shows downloaded online.

Thanks to the new agreement, “writers will lead the way as TV migrates to the Internet and platforms for new media are developed,” said Patric M. Verrone, president of the Writers Guild of America, West. As a key concession, the Guild did give up its push to have its membership include animators and reality television workers.

According to Newsweek, the strike costed the entertainment industry approximately $3.5 billion!

If you haven’t been vacationing under a rock, I’m sure you’ve heard about the “beef” Aretha Franklin has with Beyonce for referring to Tina Turner as “The Queen” at Sunday Night’s Grammys. Well now Beyonce’s dad and manager Mathew Knowles has thrown the media his 2 cents. Get ‘em Matt!

“As a manager I am not taking something this ridiculous to Beyonce. Beyonce referred to Tina Turner as a ‘queen. Not queen of gospel, queen of soul, queen of blues, Queen of England. I consider my wife a queen and sometimes call her that. Does Aretha have a problem with that?”

“ReRe the Body,” as my girl Fresh likes to call her, hasn’t been in the news a lot lately, as far as mainstream news & gossip goes, so maybe this is the perfect time for her to get her name out there. Smart move ReRe. You got us talking!

‘Bout dang time, I been waitin’! ‘Push’ was one of my favourite songs from Enrique Iglesiais’ Insomniac (Interscope) album, it had that pop/urban appeal to me, especially with Lil’ Wayne being thrown into the mix. I’m glad they are finally releasing this song as a single from the Step Up 2 The Streets soundtrack as well. Here’s a video I found of Kelly Rowland performing the US national anthem aka the “Star Spangled Banner” at this year’s NFL Pro Bowl in Hawaii this past Sunday. She did good!!

I’m confused. This cannot be the full length ‘Flashing Lights’ video, it can’t be; I’m loving the concept but I think it’s already been done … I’ll hold off on the commentary once I see the FULL video (whenever that will be).

The video seems a little suspenseful. With it first beginning with a woman committing suicide, drowning herself in a bathtub. Next the the video chronicles the woman and man (a couple I assume) hanging out, taking pictures, in love etc. The woman finds the man’s sidekick on the nightstand evidently and comes to find he’s cheating on her; so she murders him and then herself (reflecting back to the drowning-in-a-bathtub). Then it shows the final scene, with the woman, as if non of this ever happen or as if it was first degree murder … He walks in the door and she just tosses the sidekick at him and leaves. Did I spoil it for you? … Opps! I did it again, all well.

RIHANNA IN POST-GRAMMY CAR ACCIDENT » Singer Rihanna, who claimed an award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards, was reported to have been involved in a minor car accident after partying at a Def Jam-sponsored afterparty. This is the same party where she and Chris Brown have been rumored to be getting “cozy” with each other. Early reports suggested that shortly after leaving the party, the singer, popular for her smash hit “Umbrella,” was in her car when it was hit from behind by another car. According to a Def Jam spokesperson, fortunately, no one was hurt.
