To be not so politically correct and I am black though, R&B is black music... and sorry to say what is big in the black community definitely isn't always/more than often big in mainstream America or the rest of the world for that matter. ANd although J. Holiday had a hit record that does not say much.... many people have one hit song... How many true/hardcore R&B stars actually stay or maintain a high mainstream status for that long, not that many. They tend to come and go at least on a mainstream level... Especially in comparison to the longevity and consistent amount of attention that popstars receive....

@ Koriee, I didn't mean contemporary R&B, or hip-hop, (relative to the artists you've mentioned) I just meant "in general." R&B/nu soul was never really that mainstream to begin with anyway.

@ Bryan, I totally agree w/ every single thing you've said! Lawd, I'm praying MTV do cos BET surely will not push this and if MTV doesn't either, then she is screwed. :s

well i'm a janet fan and I think the song is a definite force to be reckoned with... Everyone I know instantly is feeling the song and the best quality hasn't even been released. The single is scheduled to officially debut on radio January 7th, so I think the song has a lot of room to catch on which I predict it will. Once the video comes out and if MTV actually plays it then I think she will have a hit on her hands. Major props to LA Reid though because he definitely did her justice by releasing this song, it's a good leading single and it's getting attention and it's got people interested in what's next so if she plays her cards right I believe she will have the spotlight on her again....And also, 20 y.o was not even close to being huge, but then again reports were saying that janet was paying for her video (and would have had to back her own tour) and her record label at the time, virgin records, was going and is going bankrupt and was unable to fully financially support her. Also MTV did not start playing "so excited" until after the song was going down on Billboard charts. MTVs neglect to play the video is definitely a response to the superbowl incident and it will be interesting to see how they receive her new material and if it will catch on.... It's annoying because a lot of people wanna says she's over and that she sucks, but you have to take into the account for the team behind the artist. Artist do not just make it in the industry because they're good, they also have to have a good team.... Janet has new representation, a new label, a new producer (LA REID)....so don't rule her out quite yet....I think she definitely has more room to grow and reclaim her spot as she has a new team of people to help support her that have proven they are capable of bringing people back from dismal sales and material (EXHibit A: Mariah Carey).... And janet has never been hardcore R&B or at least her singles haven't...she's more of a subtle pop artist....

I disagree & Agree with you mike. FIRST of all, I can't stand Janet Jackson. She triest to return ALWAYS with some "creative" music, but it never really works for her IMO. I think she just needs to stop, get married, have a baby and maybe manage some artist, cause I cant see her ever having a hit record in this day & age. She WAS a great artist back in the day, dont get me wrong..the hits speak for themselves, but seriously she isnt all what people make her out to be. Janet cannot even sing to be REAL, she can dance, but not like she used to. This new single "Feedback", is so outdated for her. She's TRYING, and you can tell but noo this is just not working. Just like her 2.0 YO album, It sucks. As far as R&B being O-U-T (lol), I dont think so. There are some REAL R&B heads, that still can sell records. Look at J.Holiday for example, he made a KILLER R&B album, ans BED was HIT and will most likely always be a classic. I also think R&B is overrated, people like Trey Songz who is amazing doesn't sell records, becuase most of his records arnt CATCHY, but anyway. Janet needs to put herself to BED ED ED ED, without changing into that Victoria Secret thing that JD likes.
