The fact that I, and probably millions of other folks, got the opportunity to peep American Gangster on a crystal clear bootleg DVD weeks before the official November 2nd release didn’t deter everyone from actually heading out to the movies … because final figures released yesterday showed that the movie netted $43.6 million! This puts it at the 9th biggest opening ever for an R-rated film, and the 11th biggest November release ever. And not only that, but this is Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe’s biggest releases ever! And you KNOW how long those two have been in the game. This just goes to to show you that bootlegs can actually be a good thing, if viewed properly. They’re not meant to substitute the real thing, they’re meant to “hold you over” until the official release, complimenting the real thing. Good work America! Keep it up…

In my short absense from blogging, I missed the arrest of 3 … count them … THREE … celebrities! I mean really, is this becoming a trend? Is getting arrested what’s hot in the streets? If so, let me know so I can throw on my stocking cap with the eyes cut out and hit up the local nursing home so I can collect some Social Security checks! Anybody with me? Da Brat was arrested early Thursday after a dispute with a waitress at Studio 72, Jermaine Dupri’s clu. 33-year-old Shawntae Harris was charged with aggravated assault, said DeKalb County Police spokeswoman Mekka Parish. Club owners couldn’t immediately be reached for comment. But according to the police report this is how it all went down: The waitress accidentally bumped into Brat and the two proceeded to get into a little “verbal scuffle.” The waitress apparently didn’t want to hear Mr. Harris’ mouth so she walked away and baby gangster (Da Brat) took a bottle of rum, and hit the waitress in the face with it! Parish said the waitress, who sustained a deep laceration to the cheek and some swelling on the forehead, was driven to a hospital by a friend. I mean really, was it that serious??? Anyhow, Shawntae was released the next day after posting $50,000 bond. It’s unknown whether or not he’ll face any charges. I know the government is making a killing off of these celebs getting arrested left and right! If they keep this shit up, we’ll be out of debt in no time! Y’all know I’m bullshittin’ right? LOL! If you didn’t know already, Michael Jackson is slated to make a big comeback with a new album paying homage to “Thriller,” an album he released 25 years ago, featuring productions from a few of the heavy-hitters in the industry. Just to mention a few names … Kanye West, Akon, and Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas. Sounds like it’s going to be a pretty crazy project!

Anyhow, Jacko is featured on the cover of the latest edition of Ebony Magazine in honor of “Thriller” turning 25. Spies told the NY Post’s Page Six that MJ was “very sweet” and asked a ton of questions about the lives of the crew members on the set at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. “He did go on and on about kids, though, saying how much he loved them,” reported the spy. After the shoot, he posed for photographs with the crew.

Mike really needs to let go of how much he loves children if he wants anyone to believe he isn’t a pedophile. But eff all that … 25 years?! Where can some of these so called “artists” today say they’ll see themselves in the year 2032. Working the graveyard shift at Lil’ Cricket [1]? I mean really, what will Soulja Boy being doing 25 years from now.

Pitbull feat. Lloyd • “Secret Admirer”

Here you can find Pitbull’s new single, featuring R&B singer Lloyd, “Secret Admirer” from his upcoming album The Boatlift (TVT Records). Boatlift is currently set for a fourth quarter Fall release. In my opinion “Secret Admirer” is a smooth, melodic production, this courtesy of the rap duo Play-N-Skillz, I found it relaxing with the sudden calmness and subtly. Lloyd’s voice matches so perfectly with the arrangements of vocals.

K, we got a couple new video premieres for y’all! First up, I’m sure you guys remember American Idol’s Jordin Sparks’ single “Tattoo” last Summer, I love Stargate, but they are over-doing it with the “Irreplaceable” thing … I know that was like the number one song – but dang – I mean COME ON! I’m getting sick of it now!! Anyway, the video for that recently premiered on Yahoo! Music along with Pitbull’s new single, featuring Lloyd, “Secret Admirer,” which you can peep after the cut, I should have a review of that posted up in a minute. ;-)
