Alicia Keys’ “As I Am” Sells Close to 800,000 in First Week!

Alicia Keys took the title of the second biggest release of the year when her brand new album (just released last week) “As I Am” sold over 742,000  copies! Kanye West still holds the title of the biggest release, with over 957,000 “Graduation” albums sold in the first week. Jay-Z’s latest album, “American Gangster” dropped from #1 to #8 this week, while Chris Brown’s “Exclusive” fell 6 spots from #4 to #10.

In other AK news, it’s reported that she showed her support for Hollywood’s striking writers on Tuesday when she performed two songs at a rally they staged on Hollywood Boulevard. Thousands of protestors shut down the street as they took part in the Labour Solidarity March and rally outside the famous Graumann’s Chinese Theatre.

Talks between executives and the writers are set to restart next week in an effort to end the walk-out. The writers went out on strike on November 5after failing to secure a royalties agreement concerning material on the Internet and other new media. The strike has brought many TV shows and some movies to a standstill.

    i give her mad props and she sold almost 800,000 without putting hype around her album like 50 and Kanye did (so it could sell)

    man… Alicia Keys sucks big time. i can’t stand her ass. Can’t even watch MTV in peace. Beyonce is way much better of a artist even when she sings slow ballads just like Alicia Keys… All i can do is give her props on her Pinao skills

    Stop hating John. Fuck Beyonce right now. B is awesome but this post is not about her. We’ll talk about her when her cd drops next year. It’s about Alicia Keys and she rocks. Nobody asked if u liked her or not so STFU and congratulate Alicia on her success because that is amazing right there :-)

    Like i said… Beyonce is better, rather this post is not about her. Alicia Keys still sucks… if they wasn’t doing much promotion for her before the album dropped, she probably woulda neva sold that much. She still aint the top number #1 selling artist. She aint even gonna last or be remembered. But yeah… Good Job Flicia Keys.
