Open Letter to Chris’ Label…

Open Letter to Chris

CHANGE THE DAMN ALBUM DATE! Not only are you releasing his LP around the same month as Britney Spears, Alicia Keys, and Celine Dion … but on the same day as Nas and Jay-Z, with heavyweights like those, that boy will FLOP. And lawd knows I ain’t buying three albums cos two is enough … I might even just buy Jay-Z’s since I heard he was taking it back to Reasonable Doubt.

Here’s the other part I forgot to mention … Denzel Washington recently contacted Jay-Z and asked if he could do him the honor of appearing on the AMERICAN GANGSTER soundtrack and Jay-Z was like Naw … I’ll just do a whole album. Now that’s a helluva favor for a best friend!

Word has it that this movie will be BIG and with a cast of Common, Cuba Gooding Jr., Russell Crowe, and T.I. … why wouldn’t it be? Hell, I was speechless after seeing that minute TRAILER

Another thing … CHANGE THAT WHACK ALBUM COVER! I heard, “Chris picked it” … ? Since when was he allowed to pick anything!? Forget what he likes this is about supply and demand here! And don’t you dare give me that, “this isn’t an album cover contest” – of course it’s not! Just ask your girl Fantasia, her album was going off rip, but her record sales were low because of her album cover! You have to realize your putting out a product!

And please don’t give me that, “as long as the music is good” JIVE, cos if his album sounds anything like the material I’ve heard . . . I don’t really see the “maturity” as you clam … just “horny high school boy”. Call me a “hater” whatever, I have nothing but love for Chris, but somebody need to tell him THE TRUTH! Not the “pretty” truth neither but the truth that’ll make folks angry and wanna do somethin’!

And I mean nothing intentional by this letter, just think of it as constructive criticism to motivate you, I yet to have given up on Chris Brown. Hopefully you will use that time to promote a brother right and switch to a better album cover!

  • omg, i completely agree! Chris already pushed the album back once, and then again cuz the singles aren’t doing good! Like Chris and his label need to get it together! No matter how many fans you have, ya album can still flop! Didn’t they just see what happened to 50? KanYe crushed him and Jay-Z and Nas will do the same to Chris! Chris and his label are playing around with his career! Oh the album cover, i did a blog on that one at blog.myspace.com/espromotes-a must read!

  • Thanks, I completely agree with you Es, the 5o cent thing really shocked me, cos he has a larger fan base then Kanye! Ahh, yep, I love what you wrote! I’m a Chris Brown fan too – but that doesn’t mean I’m going to agree with everything he does. And I agree, he sort of “grew down” when he turned 18, I have to admit… Lol.

  • Yep, its sad when the fans know what’s better for the artists than the label does. I’m not exactly sure what is up with record labels these days. Did all the good, smart people retire and let interns run the place? Things have got to change.

  • omg mike u r so right this kid need to grow up and stop doing the same stuff he did with the first album the first album wasnt bad but i dont really like chris brown second 1 same shit none of his songs show that he mature i only lik take you down thats probaly the only grown song on his album. need to change the album cover and the date

  • I feel really bad for Chris because he worked really hard and the songs are hot!! I think I would blame the label cuz the album cover was nice but i saw tht pic so many fricken times…[lmao] but I’m more interesting in his beautiful music=)

  • Chris is very aware of the sophomore jinx, that is why the album is called “Exclusive”, meaning that it is for his TRUE fans only. As for the album being pushed back, and the music considered by some to be not up to par….. I donot think that all of the blame lies on him, he is trying to keep his younger fans who played a huge part in him being where he is now,( and it would not be wise to alienate) while reaching out to a mature audience; that is not EASY, the fans too are playing a big part in his music not getting the air play that it should because they are downloading it or getting it on YOU TUBE and other outlets and are playing the music sooooo much that they get tired of it., I know for a Fact that “KISS KISS” has been favorited WELL OVER 12′000 times and watched WELL OVER 1000 000 times, and most if not all of the comments have been favorable.
Give him and his label a chance, I think…no believe his album is going to be a huge hit and he will continue to grow and continue to blow away audiences in the present ands the future. He has a very special essence in and surrounding him that will not be dimmed. He’s isn’t going anywhere but up.
And if Chris happens to read these comments, keep your head up, stay psitive and humble put GOD first and follow your gut instincts. All the best.

That goes for ALL the young black entertainers out there who are trying to make it and STAY in the music game.

  • If the album is meant to flop, then it will. All that matters is the end results. His new single “Kiss Kiss” is starting to take off now and is doing respectable as of now. But the envitable is envitable; whatever that is.

    ReplyReply
  • I agree and disagree with this. I agree about the music. All of the new songs are just basically like, “I’m 18 now, let’s have sex.” I don’t see the maturity at all. And yeah, the album cover is terrible, and I think they will end up changing it. Other than that, I disagree. They should release the album on November 6. Competition will always be there no matter the release date. “Kiss Kiss” is just taking off, and doing really well now, and Chris has definitely developed a solid fanbase. He’ll be okay, “Wall to Wall” just threw him off a little.

  • Exactly. Chris shouldn’t have set his album release on that date. Regardless of the countless number of fans he has, his competition is raw. We got Jay-Z, that’s going to be big. We got Nas, which is pretty self-explanitory. Are you kidding me? And with all the anticipation of Britney’s album, just, WOW. Don’t get me wrong, Chris will do good, but with all the other alumni’s in the game with him at that time, wrong move. And they need to change that album cover! Please have an actual photoshoot for the album. Seriously, I loveeee Chris, can’t get enough of him, but the label ain’t makin things right.

  • i agree. they needa do wuts best for Chris. I aint tryin to say Chris is gonna flop buh
havin it tha same day as Jay -Z and Nas. Come on! we noe Chris is a very talented individual buh tha longevity of tha otha two will be to his misfortune in the end.

  • Chris’ date was set before anyone knew about Jay-Z’s. It’s not like the label intentionally did it on purpose.

It doesn’t matter that other artists are releasing albums. Other huge acts ALWAYS release albums. That doesn’t mean the whole music industry stops moving. And it’s not like Chris is some new artist or anything. He’ll easily sell 150-250k the first week.

    ReplyReply
  • dam they better not push it back again they shouldve just left it at october and part of the reason his songs aint doing good is cuz ppl on the internet get them early and by the time the singles r actually released we already played the song out

    ReplyReply
  • I’ve taken some of y’all’s comments into consideration, but some of y’all just rambling on, I NEVER said it was Chris’ fault for anything …. And hearing songs early have nothing to do with it, most artists leak their own songs early to get feedback, and most artist leak their albums months (sometimes a year) ahead and they still go platinum. Chris is just losing his fans that’s all … and his label isn’t promoting him correcting … don’t blame it on ppl getting songs early cos that isn’t in their hands – labels fault.

And “Kiss Kiss” taking off? What world do y’all live in, cos I live in a major city, “Kiss Kiss” gets no radio play – none that I know of; T-Pain is featured right? Somethin’ ain’t right, cos NOT playing T-Pain down here is like, illegal…

“Chris’ date was set before anyone knew about Jay-Z’s. It’s not like the label intentionally did it on purpose.”

Kanye named his album Graduation (which was suppose to be Chris’ album name), when ppl found out, they changed it. Chris’ release date was actually set quite a few times, they can change it again …

  • I am a true Chris brown fan, no matter what day he drop his album and who else drop theirs on that day, I am still gettin 3 copies. I ride with the c.b all day. He is dwelling on the sex topic more, which doesnt mean your mature, it just mean, well, “u doing it” . I respect chris cause he caters to his young fans as well as us more mature people. He gonna do well, but they do need to change the album cover. I seen that pic mad times and the art is not that great. Something more grown up as the photo.

  • omg…i am so with Sharay. like, i dont like the album cove much either, but…oh well. I’m still going to buy the album regardless…so…it’s whatever. It’s been so much feedback on the released album cover…i’m sure they will take that into consideration…so…like i said i’m a CB fan ’til I’m out. Wall to Wall didn’t do that great, but Kiss Kiss is doing well…so I don’t know why people are exactly doubting him already…geez…you can’t exactly blame Chris though. You have to put some heat on his label…oh well…I will be getting his album…sooo yea.

  • Thank you Dionne!!!!! People are expecting this boy to do so much, when he just came out and is only 18! And his singles are just fine, if they were by another artist people would be feeling them I bet you.

    ReplyReply
  • And yall trust me it’s a boatload of artist who put out mediocre crap this year and still sold a decent amount of records, so Chris should be fine.

  • They should have pushed the album BACK UP to coincide with the positive buzz around his VMA performance. JIVE are not smart AT ALL. Even if they pushed the album back up to Oct 30, then that to me would be a good move. Okay, so he’ll be competing against Mario but at least it’ll be friendly competition seeing as though Mario too has consistently pushed back his album due to his singles performing badly on the charts. Plus, it sure is a whole lot better than competing against music giants such as Nas and Jay-Z. Look what happened to B5 when Diddy made them release their album on the same day as Kanye and 50 Cent. They sold only 19,329 in the first week!!!!!!!! :(

  • Yea umm that is some bull! but I don’t think it really matters which day the album comes out cause there’s alot of people that like Chris Brown that don’t like Nas and Jay-z like girls I don’t really think there’s alot of girls who will say “well screw Chris I’m gettin’ Jay-z’s cause Chris album cover is wack!”there are way to many physco girl fans of Chris for that to happen I mean the only people that will probably do that is boys and that’s cause alot of them don’t want to be seen buying his album. So I think his album will sell no matter when it comes out. and they said on his website that that’s not the real album cover he just took some new pictures I guess that was to see if they got good feedback on it and they didn’t so there probably gonna change it.[no need to get your panties in a bunch].

  • I agree they need to do sumthing. I love Chris but he ain’t gonna sell if hes going up against Jay-Z, Nas, Brittany, or any other of them artiist puttin out albums. Im gonna get his album but im goona be tempted to get Hov album and come back next weeks for Chris. He need to go back to the October 30th date because I think Mario comes out that date. Chris could dust dude in album sales. CHRIS NEEDS TO SPEAK UP AND SAY SUMTHING!!!! I KNO HE FRUSTRATED. I WOULD!

  • ok;
    here it goes.

Mike is not wrong; AT ALL. Chris needs to show that he’s grown by telling the label the following things – the following way:
” Guys, the album needs to be pushed to January 2008. [ yes ladies i said it JANUARY. you waited about 2years you can wait a couple of months ! ] Now the cover, come on, is that REALLY the best we can do? Now, I’ve brought you all alot in my career and what I’m saying needs to be considered or i’m sorry but this label is just not for me anymore. ”

YES, YES it is kinda big if he does that. But face it, he’ll have to because when the album sales come in the label can easily drop him instead ! He has a WHOOOOOOOLE lot of fans and I know I’m one of them, i do not want to see Chris fail ! & kiss, kiss def. ain’t no hit ladies. It’s not even top 10 in ANY chart right now. The fact of the matter is Chris is not being promoted right. AT ALL. In 2005 there wasen’t one time that “excuse me miss” wasen’t playing [ be it on the radio, the t.v, or someone's myspace ] & that’s sooooooo true. Chris needs to speak up. NOW, before it’s too late.

& if any [ i mean any ] artist from any genre of music thinks there gonna out-sell Celine Dion that month, you must be on some SERIOUS crack. Homegrl got grandma’s [ & yes i mean granny's foreal ] on limewire downloadin’ her shxt ! & that’s some SERIOUS shizznit !

    WORRRRRRRRRRRRRD TO YO MAMA !

    :]

  • his label is so ridiculous to the point where you can’t stand em. You really can’t blame Chris tho cause he just following what his label and management is tellin’ him to do but then again, if he tryna prove to us that he is so grown, he needs to speak up about it. I could see why the pushed the album release the first time but this is the fourth time if they haven’t noticed. And Mike you are right. Kiss Kiss ain’t taking off if it ain’t gettin’ no radio play. Nor is it even on iTunes. The single is great. It’s #1 on 106 and park but what about the Billboards charts and those other charts? What peak has it reached without radio play?
His label really screwed him over and they are showing how unprofessional they are. If they know what’s best for them they would quit pushing the album back and push it back up like to Oct. 30th. Cause fans really gettin’ frustrated with his label and the push backs.
Anyway, all i can do is wish him good luck with the album. I’m definitely buying his album to support him and help his sales.

And Brittany spears career is over with anyway.
And honestly Jay has a chance of flopping to, Kingdom Come wasn’t as big as it could of been.
I hope he keeps that date, it will show where he stands in this industry.
    DONT CHANGE THE DATE

  • Ok..so here is my input…I think that the release date is so wrong for him….I feel like the aniticipation for it is dying down as more of his songs get leaked, when I first heard he was coming back for a new album, I was like hell yeah, I’m definitely getting that, but everytime it gets pushed back and songs get leaked, anticipation dies down. As far as Jay-Z and Nas being competiton for them, I can see that, but on the other hand, Chris has a gang of girls on his side that those two may not have. (So did B5 but they still tanked…but let’s hope the girls are there stronger for Chris) and I hate that Cd cover, it doesn’t stick out at all…it looks really bland, and I really hope that Chris didn’t pick that out because it’s not creative at all…But for the most part, I agree with this post…

  • I HIGHLY doubt that Britney’s album will flop. She might have had a sucky performance on MTV but people still expect alot from her. You can’t deny that that single is hot. She can redeem herself is she just has a bangin’ video and releases a hot new track.

I know out of all these people, i’ll be coppin’ her album. I’ll get the others, Jay and Chris, from friends.

I totally agree with mike but i disagree in a way. The album cover sucks ass. sorry chris, you should have followed what dominque said. well, or the nsync celebrity cover. that was a hot one back then. when they were on the red carpet and the fans were taking their pics, anyone remember that? Anyway back to Chris. Your mangement sucks, you seriously should have let out your album after the vma performance. i mean everyone was talking about you after it. On, imdb your star-meter went up to 212%. THATS CRAZY! im a chris fan too and i just want him to do well. of course im gonna buy the cd but i just wondering about the other folk. Chris, your mangement should know that Nas and Jay-z are coming out that day and that wouldnt not be a good day to come out. this reminds me of B5. they came out he same day, as Kanye and 50, they hype was all about kanye and 50 but nothing about B5. anyway, i just hope for the best and hope that his mangement will “see the light”.

  • Who in the hell wrote that???? Ugh…… you so-called “fans” disgust me. You really do….
I mean, If you aren’t happy with what Chris (or who ever it is that’s doing all this), then good luck with trying to change their minds. All this (the release date and all that) is changing for a reason, people. Maybe Chris has to finish his album. Maybe something else is in the way. And IF his album flops, it’ll be on the “FANS”. You all should’ve been there to support Chris. But Noooo. Instead you’re here being all negative saying other people will sell more. That’ll only happen if you let it happen. Oh and about that maturity thing. Chris IS trying to be more mature. But HOW can he when he doesn’t get any GOOD criticism from people? All you see is that same 16-year-old boy from back in 2005 when he first released his song “run it!” huh? You people won’t even give him a chance will you? NO! You don’t want to see change. That’s all isn’t it? You won’t accept the fact that he’s trying to change for his FANS! what’s disgusting about this is that he’s doing for YOU and you don’t even realize it! My last comment is about the Album Cover. It’s not the hottest looking thing, but it isn’t THAT bad. I actually like it a bit. The whole arrow thing is hot. It’s just a picture. Wait until you get the album. you’ll probably find it to be more…”appealing” (if you will). If this was supposed to be a letter to his label, well sorry. This is a letter to his damn “fans” or “haters”. There’s nothing I really have to say to the record label because I think that what they are doing, is for the better. Who am I to criticize the work of professionals? Do I know any better? Well maybe not. Thank you. Thank you.

  • Well personally; if Chris decided to drop his album on whatever let him. Why is the thought of him droppin’ his album on this certain date floating in your head anyways? I mean come on; he can do as he pleases. And his album cover isn’t as bad as many other flopping artist. What makes you think he’s going to flop just because some artist are droppin’ their album on the same date? Who really gives a shit? Nas havent sold and I dont know how long; and Jay-Z might get up there but Chris sold plenty of albums and I’m pretty sure the boy will be okay. So why make a huge ass thred about what should and shouldn’t not do? Why do you care? Are you inlove with him? You must have been thinking for a minute or two to bring this up? And another thing; why should he grow up? Why dont you grow up and stay off people nuts and get on your own. I mean come on, who actually stays on the computer and make stupid and rude comments to famous people who wouldnt give a flying fruit if your living or dying. Chris Brown havent lost one wink of sleep just yet. So what makes you think he’ll loose any now? Think about it sweetie.

For one Chris never lets out just decent songs. Think about this “Run It” instant classic, “Yo” a good song loved all over the world, “Say Goodbye” broke up teenagers all over the U.S, and “Gimme Dat” had kids dancing for months. I agree with Mike. He doesn’t get play here and when Chris Brown lets out a song it’s a instant hit not a wait-three-weeks-after-release-date-then-it’s-a-hi t-song. I’m not impling that he is falling off but I’m stating that his fanbase isn’t pushing him to the top as much anymore and that’s the truth. Now what makes you believe that if people won’t vote for him and call his music in to be played on the radio as soon as it’s released that they’d get his album?

We’re not putting Chris down. I’m a big Chris Brown fan and as a fan I’m speaking my mind about my idol. You got to realize that he’s under a lot of pressure right now. This is his second album, he’s at that awkward age of an entertainers career, and he has heavyweight competion to regonize. • When I became a fan of Chris I thought that he needed to be looked after more. It was little things, like updating websites, more background info etc etc. It seems to me that the Label/ Management didnt know he was going to be as big as he is. I really believe that… especially as it was said that the record company didnt know he could dance until his first video. How can you sell somebody if you dont know EVERYTHING that that person has to offer?… I think he is supremely talented, he’s probably one of the best, singing and dancing wise, and I do feel that his individuality was the very thing that made people love him in the first place.

I do agree that his people need to step up a little bit, but do think that the album maybe held back because they want to make it better… make it better for his fans, his real fans anyway.
The songs i’ve heard so far are great, and if you listen to his lyrics, he has grown up a bit, remember he’s only 18 it’s not like he’s fully grown up, it’s only 2 years. I think if the record company play on his individuality a lot more ie; he’s a bit of a rebel, but an angel too. Make sure all the admin is set up properly so his fans can get at his singles, and keep plugging him he’ll be fine. Also it would be good to see him branch out musically, and come back hotter than before. At the moment they seem to be following the safe route, the tried and tested techniques that have worked for Usher, Omarion etc etc, but really wont work for him because when he dropped he had the 90’s thing… he was a lot more original.
I dont really see other artists who wear t-shirts that say ‘I love my fans’ so he does care about what you have to say. He’s got alot of fans to cater for, and thats a good thing! The record company just need to look after him like the quality artist he is… I still got real love for him anyways

  • I really am a fan of Chris and love the album he did last time. But what your saying is SOO true i mean its bad enough that Wall to Wall didn’t do good on the charts in th U.S and even bad here in the U.K. It doesn’t help that people aren’t giving him the right ideas for this album and Chris did really work hrd for this aswell. Some people are just supporting his ideas just because he’s “Chris Brown” which really annoys me because I know that he can be such a great artist. But the way he and his album is going right now your right he may be a flop especially with artists like Celine Dion and Jay-Z that releasing albums that same day!! he should either have released it earlier this year or early next year. And I’m not blaming Chris for this Jive should have been more prepared for this!!

  • Well Jive isn’t the most reliable label in the world. They’re always making terrible decisions, however, I think they’ve done a good job with this project so far. Everyone’s complaining about Jay-Z coming out the same day as Chris, but Chris’ debut album outsold Jay-Z’s last album. Longevity is more important than first week sales, and I think it would be pretty stupid to push the album back to December or ‘08. With holiday sales coming up, Chris album sales will hold up, which is part of the reason I think they pushed it back.

I do think some of you need to calm down. He said he isn’t hating on Chris. It’s just his opinion. He’s not trying to “bring Chris down.”

  • I’ll be happy if they just change the album cover. I know Chris will pull through with the sales, but, I don’t know. It’s weird with him not being at the best of his ability. I’m from the bay area and I barely hear them playing Wall To Wall or Kiss Kiss and I’m like, “What’s going on?!” Shooooot, and T-Pain’s practically on every track I hear on the radio, hahah. Whateverrr though, everybody still loves Chris! =]
